I can't share too many deets because I know other people who use (used?) those sites that come to /CGL/. That being said, yeah, I knew people on both sides of some of what went down so I heard a lot of what went on.

This was brought publically, but on Gigapause, there was a couple that was a 13 year old pushed into dating, staying with, and lying about.their age for a 22(?) year old. 22 might not be accurate, but it was someone in their early 20's. The admins didn't do anything about it because the 22 year old made the 13 year old lie about their age. Someone who knew them took proof to the admins, and when they still didn't do anything, they posted proof (a screencap of the kid's steam from before they met that said they were 13) and essentially ran off the 20-something year old, who stuck to their guns and kept insisting the kid was legal for a few days before posting a dramatic leaving forever status.

While this was going on (or before, I don't remember), one of the mods was also accused of trying to date an AR roleplayer, who was most likely teen. That instance wasn't true. Said AR had lied to the mod, and everyone, about their age, but the rumor was spread by someone who hated the mod for ending their friendship because they were constant drama. The AR originally claimed to be 16, but they later claimed to be 13 to other people. That AR lost it over someone else DARING have a similar profile layout and left too, I think. Or was banned IDK.

There was some chick who constantly picked stupid fights with a mod too. Never found out what her deal was.

The original admins jumped ship, and after the Flarping admins and the original users made a huge deal about being seperate, Hira/Mod Sollux is modding both.

Gigapause is basically all Tumblr kids now. When I left, one of the popular OCs was a fantroll who was fat, "Troll Nigerian", and had a skin condition, and was played by a white girl. I think that says a lot, really.

My mother, who has worn a few rather elaborate costumes in her time for halloween, has decided she wants to 'come along and maybe cosplay too' to a big convention. And while I've been cosplaying and doing large scale conventions for ages, I'm a bit worried about the 15 year old screaming homestucks in the corner playing spin the faygo being just a bit too much for her. She's got a decent opinion of my hobby right now, and I don't want to fuck that up.

On the other hand... she's willing to cosplay who ever I ask her to, and its super tempting to have her cosplay an ancestor to one of the trolls I cosplay.

I know in mine, if you tried to bring a parent to anything, you would be making everyone really uncomfortable and you wouldn't be invited to anything else after that unless you somehow made really clear that you understood and wouldn't do it again. If you bring her to a con, walk around and do your normal con stuff but dont congregate with the homestucks at the meetup unless it's time for the photoshoot. As an adult, the younger kids can be painfully embarrassing before/after photoshoots and that's the best way to do it.

There's not really any agreed on rule for it, but a common way it's shown in more detailed fan art is basically cat skin along the 'top' of the tentacles, with fur and the same sort of texture you would expect from any cat's soft body. Then the underside where a squid would have suckers is instead the rough pink color and has the same texture of a cat's tongue.

My local comm is good. We have parents and 'real actual adults with houses and stuff' fairly often, but that's not where she wants to go. I'd actually be more okay with showing her one of those shoots because I can keep those kids in line. Man, this is going to give me away to few people in the thread who I know lurk, but I like to travel out of the country for my cons, since I do photography at conventions.

My mother is basically looking at cons as a nerdy weekend vacation with her mid twenties daughter, where she gets to dress up too. So every time someone asked me over Christmas, 'hey anon, you still taking pictures of those kids in costume', she did the weird mom-smile thing where you're internally screaming because you know she's listening to every word and going to ask you about it later.

But I take it from you guys, the general consensus is "Maybe just for an afternoon, and pretend 90% of other homestucks don't exist while you're there". Good thing she's asking about Colossal the most, where I could at least drop her off at the hot tub bar before 4pm. I'll likely try to talk her out of it though.

i can give you some advice re: construction of how she made this.
>skull mask is the one that homestuckcosplayhelp's tag links to (just search 'vampire skull mask' on amazon). she filled the eye holes with some plastic that she scrapped from a couple pairs of sunglasses, then painted the numbers on them. the rest of the mask is painted with fabric paint.

Keeping your glasses on top of a huge chunk of hair like that looks pretty stupid imo... if you have to do it to keep the wig flat at least hide them behind a few strands of hair. By now Homestuck is pretty much standard at cons. Like, even if the fandom decrease there will probably ALWAYS be Homestuck cosplay around. A lot of our community is still not just young but also kind of new to the fandom and haven't finished the comic yet.
Also, if it really DOES end early this year I'm expecting a few people at least returning like heyo old fandom even if they don't stay.

But I'm going to be honest and say that there are definitely Crossovers I personally would love to do but which probably would be recieved with nothing more than a shrug by most of the fandom. It wasn't Homestuck, but essentially just have a lax attitude about it, let the entry-level kids have their fun and then grab the good people and sneak off to do a second photoshoot with them.
Also key is to have a coordinator of the group like I haven't done a lot of groups because I prefer to fly solo but if you have one person who's like "hey so this is what we're going to do" then the result almost always look better. Even when there are people who are like "nah I'll do another thing", in which case it's best to just let it go.

Colors look right to me, Kyoko is fitted and crisp, wig should be darker. Madoka's wig looks like every other prestyled wig I've seen, waist could use more definition, skirt poof is nicer than usual, missing the choker, gloves and some trim for some reason. I'm not sure that would really be much of a deterrent? I mean, I've been cosplaying homestuck 3+ years at this point and almost feel like its gotten better over the last year or so. I haven't heard horror stories about homestucks in a long time. Your usual spin-the-faygos and lacking boundaries, sure.
