I've been telling people who post their WTB dresses that I have the dress they're looking for and then never respond.

>> No.7996375

There's a new girl in our comm. She posts constantly, her face is really obnoxious, bad makeup, and her coords are just gross. In her other pics she clearly never knew how to dress herself to begin with. She tries entirely too hard. She's given me this phobia of going out in lolita because I'm literally afraid of being seen with her/what if I look that bad. I hope she loses interest and goes away.

>> No.7996397

I'm not really jelly per se. There's a girl in my comm who I like and get along great with. But a few of her coords have been a bit of a miss (like posted to ita threads BtB tier misses). She's one of those people who tends to throw a lot of brand together and not really wear flattering things.
I'm only rustled because recently one of her frumpy outfits got more likes on facebook than me, and the reason for that is because she had a clearer shot of her outfit. My outfit was objectively better but the picture I took of it was more blurry and I fucking goofed by ODing it with filters, and it's too late to post a more toned down one now. And I've been so busy/unmotivated lately that I haven't gotten dressed again to take a better pic with my real camera. Fuck, I'm so mad at myself.

I think I finally might have lost my cosplay drive. I have 2015 cosplay plans but havent been excited about making stuff like I usually am. Its suddenly more of a chore. Making cute clothes and stuff for my baby niece is more fun than dresses ill wear once. I'm also upset I made group plans with friends when I would rather sell in artist alley and profit from cons. I think this is just a normal part of becoming an adult but I'm disappointed this happened before I made a costume I could genuinely look back on and say I was 100% proud of.

What's funny is that I'm friends with a cosplayer who is hot/sexy and does really damn good cosplays (I don't cosplay, I'm into lolita) and I was baffled that she didn't have like a Facebook fan page and attempt to promote herself any. If anything, she kinda downplays her awesome pictures. I guess it was just the high school loser mentality left in me, because I got on cgl and realized exactly why she avoids attention. >> No.7996549

You see, the thing about that is you can't copy right a design because it's too utilitarian. Imagine having to pay a company every time you make a sleeve, another company any time you make a collar, another one for corset lacing, etc., it would be ridiculous and fashion would never get anywhere. "Replica" shoes and bags are completely fine because you can't stop people from shaping bags into generic shapes such as hearts and stars, and you can't stop people from adding straps and bows to shoes because that's what the majority of shoes have, especially in lolita. Prints, on the other hand, are illegal because because it's art and considered intellectual property.

So yeah, there's nothing wrong with knock-offs unless they start adding art and logos onto it.

I used to really admire a particular cosplayer/ con staff in the midwest community but lately she has become one of the worst people I know.

She keeps airing her dirty laundry about her husband (I feel so bad for the poor guy) and uploading ancient ( and might I say revealing) cosplay photos on facebook.

Then she gets really upset that people have been commenting on the photos or PMing her, implying they need to be corrected with a spray bottle. She didn't mind her international creepers on her cosplay page. If she didn't want attention, she should not have uploaded them. They are very VERY clearly old as hell and irrelevant.

That, combined with regularly being stuck 15 mins on the airport being interrogated while everyone else is allowed to just buzz through made me really wary of people from other countries. I'm guessing somewhere in Eastern Europe from that? But I know a load of Eastern Europeans in Ireland and I have had literally one negative experience. If they're horrible to her it's because she's an all-around cunt. How can you even say that to someone and expect them not to take it personally, though? I did have one person here go "Haha, I hear Irish women are really ugly-looking, no offense!" to me, and I took that personally enough (though I didn't let on, of course). Like... how are you supposed to take that? I can't imagine she was very well-liked in Ireland, either. Was she in a comm in Ireland, do you know? Ah, sorry. Too much alcohol tonight, so I'll probably regret dropping this much info tomorrow. But this girl, jesus. I can't fucking stand it anymore.

First time I met her she completely weirded me out by bringing up her asexuality into every other sentence out of her mouth. Like, we'd be talking about buying presents for peoples birthdays (or something, I don't remember) and she'd be all "I'm dating myself and give myself presents instead, you know, since I'm asexual!" or other bullshit. Super sparkly snowflake. Her outfit hadn't come in the mail in time, so she wore some cosplay to the meetup. Like, shitty piss blonde wig and go-go boots.
Next meetup is at a really upscale hotel, it's a catered pre-paid event. Snowflake shows up what looks to be an okay coordinate (KL jellyfish, with the same shitty wig, but at least there's hair accessories this time)... until I notice her shoes. They're fucking dance shoes spray painted gold, and the gold is flaking off. "They're from a cosplay, I don't feel like getting other shoes, since these work for both [cosplay and lolita] and they're comfortable". She's also wearing opaque white dance tights that have super obvious discoloration from wear, also from cosplay.

Cont.

After the tea we go to a winter festival a few blocks away. The town square is bustling with people. Apparently Snowflake's car has broken down and she's waiting for a jump. We all decide to wait with her. She proceeds to tell us (and the whole fucking town, and our newbies who were previously talking about how being stared at by passers by was scaring them and making them uncomfortable), VERY loudly, about how she's been "-scamming money out of guys online". Her own words. She's been hawking foot fetish photos and other porno type shit to desperate pervs online to make ends meet, which is why she could afford to come to the meetup.
Meanwhile, people are staring and the newbies look like they want to fucking die and or/run away from freak show we've unleashed on them. And I'm contemplating murder and desperately trying to divert the conversation.

Yeah, that was part of what made me kind of upset too.
Usually people who are treated similarly (other eastern Europeans, especially Hungarians and everyone from the Balkans) are really kind to us, so I guess I kind of expected the same from her. And I don't know whether she was in a comm there or not, sorry.

It's kind of unnerving because you never know whether people are genuinely nice to you or going "oh god, not another one" in their head.

I sort of feel the same way when I'm talking to Australians, since basically all our trash moved over there (judging by the people I know who've gone, at least) and a lot of them seem to be making idiots of themselves. I'd like to think most people are being genuinely nice, though.
In Ireland I think it's mainly older people (especially from the country) and really, really uneducated people who have bigoted attitudes like that, so it's surprising and disappointing to hear about someone who's most likely in their 20s at the oldest and presumably educated enough to know better.

It isn't even as bad as it used to be, in the 90s and early 00s we were lumped in with Slavs as the "troublesome immigrants" of the time, but now the attention seems to be going to muh terrorists and generally any Muslim excluding Bosnians (although to be fair Islam is a minority even there and they're mostly non-practicing).

You aren't alone, anon. I never take photos of myself and avoid meetups for the same reason. I know I'm not pretty but I still worry about getting hate over my appearance. At least with lolita, I can feel pretty in my head.

Sigh, I went from being able to afford brand regularly to barely being able to pay a dress every few months.

Long term boyfriend had a sort of midlife crisis and dumped me, leaving me the flat to deal with (moving is way too expensive at this point and my family is hundreds of miles away). So I have just enough to pay the rent and bills and food but can't really spend on anything else, so lolita is out of the question for now.

After a few weeks he now wants to move back and my brand whore self is screaming to get him back just so I could go shopping again. I can't differentiate if I'd genuinely want him back or if it's just my venal side influencing me. As if it isn't hard enough as it is, between chosing to take back the guy who hurt me needlessly or trying to find a better boyfriend (when most of the guys just seem awful)

Are you me, anon?
I don't know if cameras show you how you really look like or not (lord I hope not), but I always end up having these really odd proportions in each photo and it looks so devastating.
Only recently have I come to terms with my appearance, and now I can actually look into the mirror and go "hmm, could be worse I suppose" but in every single god damn photo one of my eyes looks visibly bigger than the other, my nose is curved to one side and I have a long face with grandma cheeks while irl I have a roundish pancake face.

I really, really hope that the camera lies more than the mirror.

>> No.8002702

>>8002696
That's cause you don't truly look like what you see in your mirror. Faces are not 100% symmetricals and we're used to see our own face in the mirror while others (and photos) see us the correct way. I always drew myself with my bangs to the wrong side and when I tried to correct my drawing it felt strange already so it's normal you pick up on the differences on pictures and think you look weird.

Also there's angles and light too, it makes a huge difference when you ask someone tall or small to take a pic so I guess try to find your best angle and position yourself in front of the camera.

I also hate when people take pictures of me rather than selfies because I never see what I look like and 9 times out of 10 I look like crap with a terrible smile.

Most people have asymmetrical faces, perfect symmetry is rare. My nose is slightly crooked and so is my jaw, I will be getting braces and I asked my orthodontist if it will at least make my jaw straight. She told me maybe or maybe not and that most people have asymmetrical faces.

A mirror shows a symmetrically flipped version of you and your brain is used to that. Our photos show us somewhat of how really look and we aren't used to it. Photos can also look more distorted depending on lens quality, lighting, etc.

I actually noticed my crooked nose through photos and it turns out I have a deviated septum, you might have the same.

Follow the advice in >>8002702, Anon!
You are probably nowhere near as ugly as you think. But the longer you stare at a mirror or unflattering picture of yourself the more you can convince your mind you look ugly.
I'm not the prettiest girl either, and I'm okay with that. I work extra hard on my coords and grew out my hair to make up for the fact that my face isn't beautiful. Have a few tips:
>maybe grow out your hair; it helped me with my confidence to have something pretty that people will often compliment me on

-learn how to use make up!! This can change so much about your appareance

-learn what angle and posing flatters you. Take a million selfies with auto timer until you found out what poses you like, what angle flatters your face. This can make so much difference and will make you feel more comfortable if a picture gets taken at a meet up. I always end up doing the same 3 poses but who cares, they make me look good.

-Just push every negative thought aside. I usually avoid staring into the mirror for too long and I don't allow myself to endlessly pity or hate myself for my appareance anymore.

-people probably won't care as much as you do or think they do. Sure, we're all sandy bitches here but irl no one give two fucks about you or your incredibly small nitpicks, trust me.

I believe in you Anon! Please don't let such insecurities control your life.

Yeah I know, it's really complicated because he managed to break all the trust I had for him. After all these years I guess you get a bit bored of your partner and it was working because I loved him. Now that he tries to come back it's even more boring than dates with new guys because he doesn't attract me that much (he's not hideous but I got used to his face I guess) and I already know everything about him.
Plus all of my friends' boyfriends are quite lame so I don't know if I'll find a better guy than this one. Although he says he'll try to seduce me again and change but I also got a taste of fake promises.

Also thank for the advices but I already looked at a lot of options and basically keeping the whole thing is less expensive. I can't bring roomates because I only got one bedroom and animals in the livingroom (I'd rather skip on the burando than sleep on the couch and let a stranger sleep on my 500€+ bed). Even tried to see if I could sell that huge ass bed for two smaller bed + mattress but that'd be more expensive and the big mattress would be hardcore to resell since stupid ex made a stain on it before leaving.

Pretty much everybody got the potential to be downright beautiful. Most ugly girls I see are either overweight (let's face it, it rarely suits someone, even though I won't think someone is ugly because they're chubby), have a terrible haircut (or just unstyled hairs basically), are dressed frumpy and got a fucking bad posture.

I'm not even at a stade where I think I'm pretty everyday but from what I gathered mostly you'll look pretty just by having a clear skin, properly pluck/wax hairs and especially your eyebrows (you can't believe how much they change your look). Have a hairstyle that suits your face. Not one you think looks good on someone you admire. You'll have to try and test different hairstyles and colors and if you're too tired to do your hairs every morning, find an easy hairstyle like a messy bun or a bread, whatever.

Also like anon said, being confident makes you legit prettier. For example I was slightly overweight when I was younger and I'd have a bad posture because I was too conscious of my tummy. Standing straight made me look actually a bit thinner but I had to accept to stop hiding my bellyfat.

Aaaaand finally don't fucking photoshop your face. I swear. I did that once and when I compared the original pic to the perfect one, holy shit, I felt bad. Photoshop away your zits, your redness, some annoying hairs whatever but unless you want to be depressed don't change your features (nose, bones, eyes) because you can't rationalise that you'll ever look like that without surgery.
Unless they're crazy, those living dolls and tumblrinas that photoshop the fuck out of their face must feel terribad.

Now he never really credited us but I didn't think much of it until he started getting really popular. He started getting questions about making cosplay and he just sort of bullshit answers out of his ass. Still I tolerated it.

We had a bit if a falling out around last Feb due to him being super self centered and me going through a depressive episode and being unable to manage with him constantly flaunting in my face.

Then, he decides last minute to go to an out of town con. He doesn't have the cosplay he wants for the con so he asks me for mine. I don't want to give it to him but I know if I don't he'll start whining about me on his blog so I lend it to him. I haven't seen this cosplay since. He never credited me for making it.

Even worse, this isn't the only time. Another cosplay I made for a mutual friend ended up not only in his hands but he answered questions about making it! Knowing full well that I had made it.

There is this girl in our cosplay community, that asks questions of how to make every single piece of her cosplay every other day. She has done a pretty crappy ice dress Elsa and is now making coronation Elsa, and I am just so tired of seeing her asking questions about fucking everything!

She asks questions about what materials you can see in other cosplayers photos, questions about what exact color her fabric should be (and when you link her websites with fabric in the closest color, she bitch about it not being accurate enough) and she posts progress pictures in the FB group whenever she has made anything new on her cosplay (she has a facebook page but since she doesn't get any likes there she posts it in the FB group too)

And then she tries to have a Q&A on her FB page about cosplay, and gets mad when there is nobody who wants to ask her questions. (Why would anyone want to ask you questions about cosplay when YOU have to ask for help for every single thing you do). She also posts tutorials of stuff she have only made once (like gloves). Most recently she asked for advice on how to open up a page for people to donate money for her cosplays. She wants to do this thing where you can hire a Disney Princess cosplayer to events and such, and then she "HAD to have money to buy super expensive fabric for her Elsa cape" and got pissy when people adviced her not to ask for donations.
