The alleys are closet&bought cosplay galore, but you can see some really good ones too. I recommend hanging out near the contest changing rooms, the photo area and the "Cosplay libre" stage (both three were next to each other last year). Many cosplayers also take pictures in the halls leading outside.

Regarding contests, go to the ECG finals and to the French preselections. You won't be disappointed

Cosplay Forum France is pretty good if you're into that. The chat is really active on some evenings, and it's full of oldfags who know their shit.

May you have luck, then, because you'll need it. Seriously, most veteran cosplayers have stopped coming altogether because of how crowded (worse than Japan Expo, because it's smaller) and shitty it is.

Frenchfag here. Paris Manga is a shit con, but Japan Expo is pretty good. Any people going to Japan Expo Sud in 2015 here ?

>> No.7993377

Offtopic but I think there are people in this thread who would be in a better position to inform me than elsewhere.

American, considering a trip to France in either spring or summer. Weeaboo faggot who like pretty things and fashion and nice weather and cute clothes. Got any non-obvious travel tips?

Frenchfag who lived in the UK for a few years, I can guarante Japan Expo is nothing like what's available in the UK. Much bigger, much wider selection of events, guests, and general focus on Japanese Culture as well as animu, mango, and games.

>>7990858
What >>7991750 said. French preselections will blow your mind if you're used to crappy UK competitions.

Well, if you're attached to it and don't have any other options, it's still better than nothing. Don't forget that people on 4chan tend to exaggerate stuff.

Sounds good then, I was thinking about travelling over with friends to it. Though, I don't know a lick of French...

>> No.7993785

Well, most French people study English in middle and high school now, with varying levels of success, so you should be okay for basic stuff, especially in Paris where people in shops are used to the tourists. I'd advise bringing a small dictionary to help with vocabulary.

About Japan Expo itself... buy the tickets in advance if you can. If you want to come for three days, the 4-days passes is usually cheaper than buying 3 separate tickets, and you have a different waiting line that's ridiculously fast.

Unless you get a hotel next to Villepinte (where the con is held) or have a car on hand, you'll have to use the RER B to go there. Most people catch it at the Gare du Nord station. You have to be careful as there are two of them, taking different pathes at some point : the right one goes to the Charles de Gaulle airport. Some are direct to Villepinte and then the airport, and some stop at every station, so it takes longer.

Also, a tip I got from a Parisian friend : when you buy your RER tickets (I usually get mine in Gare du Nord), remember to get those for your return trip : this way, you won't get stuck in Villepinte where there are only 3 ticket boothes and thousands of people suddenly remembering they have to buy theirs. If you go during the weekend, there are "weekend tickets" that can be used for the whole day on Saturday or Sunday, if you're under a certain age (I think it's 25 or 25, but I'll have to check), and which are cheaper than buying regular tickets.

And, of course, bring your own food and drink unless you want to pay a fucking fortune.

I'm from Southern France, so I usually do every cons in the area (there were two of them in november), and travel to Paris, mainly for Japan Expo and sometimes for Paris Manga, even though it's a shit con, if there's some interesting actors.
Next one for me is Japan Expo Sud, a smaller Japan Expo in the south at the very end of february or the earliest day of march (sometimes both).
