I have a question about ACV. What is the difference between using the organic unfiltered kind, and the filtered kind?

Also I saw an anon in the previous thread cuts their toner with witch hazel instead of water. How does using witch hazel with ACV work in comparison to just diluting it with water?

I have very awful hyper pigmentation and acne scarring. I've been doing 60% glycolic peels every three weeks for the past 6 months and I'm not seeing a difference. My skin feels softer and makeup doesn't cling to my dry patches like it used to but it's doing nothing for the redness around my face

I am so self conscious about my skin and it's giving me so much anxiety

Hey anon, I used to get them heaps in my teens, then around 18 they stopped.. this shit always depends on the person. So keep trying.
Difference between me at 18/now is I drank more water in place of always drinking juice, and watching my eating in general because teens y'know. >AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acid) are chemical exfoliants. Basically a (in my opinion, better) alternative to physical exfoliants or scrubs. AHAs are great for fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dry skin, etc. BHAs are great for degunking pores, acne, oily skin, etc. You can use both if you want, but it's not necessary, it just depends on your skin and what it can handle.

Don't use regular soap. If you really want to wash your face with soap, use something like Alep soap or Marseille soap.
Basically, regular soap will stripe the sebum away from your face. Your skin need sebum to protect itself from contact, pollution etc so if your remove it it's gonna produce some more and clog your pores, creating acne.
You can also use a gentle face cleanser, I personally like Neutrogena's pink grapefuit line for slight oiliness. Let your skin get used to it for a few monthes, then if you still have pimples and oiliness you could try Body shop's tea tree oil mask. It's pretty harsh but works wonder.

Yes that cetaphil bottle, which is huge, only about 1/3 left now which I use every single night lasts me.
But I got this makeup set called Nude by Nature on December 2011, and six months ago I thought I try it again coz initially when I got the set it was too dark for me. It was concealer, setting powder and foundation. Concealer had separated and came out like cottage cheese, and smelt fucked up. Foundation was gritty. Setting powder seems fine. Only used any of it twice in those years.

The cetaphil wash still smells the same, still lightly foams, and still washes my face with no acne irritation, and no excessive dryness. I'm yet to find a better face wash. Just recently received my Innisfree Olive Foaming Face Wash and I'm not enjoying it as much. Only used it twice, so will see as time goes by.

do you mean pimple blackheads (the big ones that happen a few at a time) or "blackheads" that are tiny and tons of them around your nose/etc. Because the first are actual blackheads (the opposite of white heads), and the second ones are sebaceous filaments. Blackheads respond well to charcoal and a good cleanser with salicylic acid in it or other ingredients like that. They are also able to "go away" permanently.

The second ones will always come back, they're just oil and shit in your pores. There is no way to get rid of them forever. A good routine for your skin will help lessen their appearance and give you times where they are invisible but they are a forever thing. For everyone though so don't worry about that! (and please don't use those pore strips, they're irritating, drying, and can stretch your pores! save your money and your face!)

>>7988387
Generally that's pretty good, but it may not block uva (the scarring/aging) rays. If it says broad spectrum or ppd # or pa+++(+) then you're covered! Also you need to use around a 1/4 tsp of sunscreen everyday, rain or shine. That's how sunscreens are tested in order to measure their effectiveness. (It makes sense, a lab would need a thick and even application layer in order to make sure that results are legit right?) It sucks a lot and is a lot of product, but it's necessary.

They'll both do the job for the acne, but acv with mother (The cloudy stuff) just has protein strands and vitamins still in the mix, so that might be better to use for your face.

Anon that cuts her acv with witch hazel here, I do it because witch hazel alone isn't enough to clear my acne, but I don't like using acv by itself. It doesn't burn, but I figure if I'm cutting it with water, it might as well be witch hazel water.

Chin and jawline acne is often hormonal lay caused, but be sure that you're changing your pillowcases and sheets- even hand creams and hair products can give me pimples depending on what's in them. The weird rper above has some points under all that aggressiveness. Bar soaps can (but not always) be drying and irritating to your face and help contribute to your skincare woes. Perhaps just use it on your body, even if it says it's okay for face.

Cetaphil, cerave, and the cream neutrogena cleanser are all popular gentle and accessible (for NA anons at least) with varying levels of affordability. If you're an all natural type you may not want to use them though. If you can keep the ph of your cleanser between 4-6.5 that is always a good idea, but you can just use a toner after to adjust the ph so don't stress it.

Moisturizers are a harder thing to choose, you may want to find some trial sized ones and see how your skin reacts. Some people have a night moisturizer and a day one, but you don't need to. A moisturizer or other product with niacinamide, vitamin c, vitamin k, or other ingredients can help fade acne scars. Use a moisturizer after cleansing!

Also use sunscreen 1/4th tsp of spf 30-50 broad spectrum/ uva and uvb blocking, every day.

You may want to use an exfoliant and masks, but first get your baseline routine down pat and working for you. Trying out too many products at once will mean that you won't be able to easily pinpoint what's working for or bothering your skin. So try one thing at a time, or even test patch (some use one side of their face for one product, and another for the other).

When you have that baseline together then build up to exfoliants and other things.

I feel you anon! I get really upset over my skin too, I'm super self conscious about it.

If you're not using a cleanser I'd start with that. You want something gentle and non-drying. Even an oil cleanser would work.

Now I'm assuming by "little hyperpigmentation things" you mean PIH, the spots left behind by acne? Because of that and your dryness I'd definitely use an AHA. A vitamin C serum can also be super helpful.

For your active acne you can spot treat with something that has benzoyl peroxide, sacylic acid, or sulfur.

And finally I'd definitely invest in a good moisturizer.

If you need any product recommendations let me know.

Google ate my comment, idk how or why but okay. There is no difference, some people believe the "mother" is the best part of the acv, there is no science to back it up. It does make you sound like you're part of a cool cult though so that's a benefit in and of itself.

And I think it could be okay? Witch Hazel can be put directly on your face right? so it should work as a dilution. Test patch it because it might be to acidic or drying.

Emu farms are great, generally speaking, the ones that I know of really take to the belief that if you don't use every part of the animal you're wasting something valuable. Plus they get a pretty sweet life, so I can rest easy before slathering my face with pure emu fat.

I've been using the tea tree oil from TBS along with the face cleanser for 5 days and I'm already seeing the results. My pimples seem to be under control, yesterday afternoon I noticed the beginning of a breakout, put some oil on it, and it's basically disappeared already. The redness on my cheeks is disappearing too, but I'm not sure if it's the tea tree oil or the new cream I'm testing.

Right now my routine is:
-Morning: water, tea tree oil in some spots, moisturizer when the tto is absorbed
-Night: Tto cleanser, tto (not only in some spots, but all over my cheeks), moisturizer

I have combo skin. I exfoliate once or twice a week, sometimes I put on a clay mask, but it leaves my face too dry. I also use a random eye contour gel, but I'm not seeing many results.

My questions are: Can you recommend me something to get rid of the acne scars? Will the tea tree oil work by itself? And is TBS's Vitamin C Eye Reviver Duo as good as people claim? It's a bit expensive, but I'll give it a try if I can finally get rid of them.

Kind of a weird question, but what do you guys use to wipe off makeup and cleanser with? I dont like using cotton rounds or puffs because they are wasteful and wiping with your hands and a rinse of water doesn't work too well (plus the water trickles down your arms). I used wash cloths but then I have to wash them each time (or toss dirty cloths into a hamper). They would always start to smell weird. In the past I've also use skin brushes but I realized they made my skin rough and agitated.

Could anyone recommend sponges like this? They seem like they could be handy, wiping off makeup without getting very dirty and drying quickly (before mold could form).

I'll have to give it a shot. Right now I'm using St Ives apricot scrub (because it is good for scrubbing the shit out of your legs if nothing else) followed by a microfiber cloth, and then I rub all the dead skin off with the towel when I dry off which is disgusting, and then I put on lotion, let that soak in, put some more lotion on, and then throw a thin layer of vaseline on after the second lotion.

Also Nair and similar products really help, since they're designed to eat away at the keratin, but I can only really use it every two or three weeks.

You ever have issues with water getting everywhere when you try to rinse off your cleanser? I'm starting to wonder if I have an unusually small/shallow sink in my bathroom. My face doesn't really . . . fit in there (especially with the faucet in the way), nor am I tall enough to bend over into the sink so the water inevitably ends up dripping down my neck and wrists onto my shoulders. So many girls seem to be able to just rinse their makeup off with no problem, I'm not a clumsy person so I'm totally baffled.

I thought I'd just share a routine that I use that has worked wonders for my acne prone skin.

I use panoxyl on one of those facial scrub exfoliating sponges you can buy at Walgreens for like a buck. I do this in the shower. After rinsing that off, I apply a small amount of tea tree oil to my face while it is still wet. After my face is dry, I apply a small amount of bio-oil.

Have been break out free since using this routine.

I feel like I might have when I first started rinsing it off with water rather than a washcloth but I kept a counter towel to wipe it up after I was done. After a while you kind of just adjust to it and now I have no problem with it. I don't put my face into my sink and it's still a a reasonable distance away from the faucet.

Try to angle your palms so that the wrist is up but your fingers are down. Don't do it like how you see in the commercials with your face up so that you can see your mirror, look into your sink. When you splash water up, do it quickly and you can try to catch any water that drips down your chin with your wrist/inner palm area as you're splashing quickly. Most of the water though should drip down naturally into your sink if you are angling your head and hands. I'm sure you'll naturally adjust to it after a while, I don't even keep the counter towel there anymore.

Question for the more experienced OCM anons. I just started with coconut oil and now my chin has all these small bumps on it; some are very tiny whiteheads, others look like they'll come to a head in a few days. Waxing will be your most efficient method, with a tweezing cleanup. If you want to or are dexterous enough you can go get threaded (but don't try it willy nilly because if you do it wrong you're likely to get ingrowns or take off hair you want). Sugaring is essentially the same as waxing, but maybe your skin will like it more.

Shaving can be irritating to skin and cause it to darken in an undesirable way. Chemical removers can be effective or they can really hurt you. Lazers and shit are out of most people's financial ranges and with varying levels of effectiveness.

I also tried one of those episticks and they are hard as shit to work. The hairs I want to remove are fine, small, and on a rounded surface so that could be part of the problem for me. It woks okay on lip fuzz though, and for .99 for two sticks it wasn't a terrible experience,

That being said, most makeup products shouldn't stick to your peach fuzz and ruin the finish of your face. Longer hair will, as will darker hair, but generally no matter the makeup it should be alright.
>source: me and friends

Makeup to make you look like you /don't/ have a beard is a bit harder, there are probably tutorials on the net but I can't imagine that they use a normal amount of makeup. Drag Queen tutorials may go into detail about covering 5 o'clock shadow but I'm not sure anon.

TL;DR: wax that shit bro, or whatever other method you want. If it's dark enough to give you a bit of a beard then it's making you feel self conscious and thus is worth dealing with. You can still wear makeup normally, but it probably won't make you look like you don't have a beard if you already have one. Many people have had good luck with Nair sensitive face strips, perhaps that is a good place to start.

A fair mix of oils and essences. Some people find it really effective to treat scars and stretchmarks, others find it to be a run of the mill oil and believe that the results that come from it are not unique to bio-oil.

If you aren't allergic to any of it and are looking for an oil moisturizer it could be an option for you. Other people stick to less expensive options, even baby oil. There's a fair bit of wank about it according to a cursory search.

unfortunately, benzoyl peroxide it will not help scarring. Usually, to remove blemished/scars, you should use vitamins C and E containing products and use sunscreen to protect against melanin accumulation/sunburn. You can use natural oils for that (for me, moringa beautifying oil from Body Shop worked really really well to fade scars on my legs). I also suggest spending extra $ for name-brand lotions/moisturizers. These tend to be less irritating as they use higher quality constituents than pharmacy brands (no, the prices aren't reasonable at all, but it is what it is). Go to a Sephora store and ask for a bunch of free samples for different brands (I like Ole Henriksen, which is more costly). Try these and see how your skin responds. Try to find products with Vit. C/E, collagen. Look at ingredients lists, and try to figure out what really goes into the bottle.

There are two types of toners- first is moisturizing the second is astringent.

Not everyone will want or need a toner in their routine, but there are so many different kinds of toners that are used for a variety of reasons that it's hard to say if you should swear off them.

Missha's First Treatment Essence and Hada Labo's lotions are both commonly used as toners with a lot of great reviews.

As for rosy cheeks and sensitive skin, I've heard good things about witch hazel, rose water (thayers witch hazel rose water toner as well haha), fte, and beton's aloe toner.

I've also heard that chemical exfoliants help with redness caused by inflammation because of something to do with the bhas and salicylic acid. But I don't have a source for that one so...

For me, using an acv toner and following up with mizon recovery gel and a regular moisturizer has helped me with redness. Exfoliation may have helped that as well, but it's been better re: cleaning out my skin of acne and gunk.

If you don't think you need a toner, then don't worry about it. Aloe Vera is a cheap option that you can try out that has helped many people with redness and is moisturizing. So maybe try that first and then think about a toner. Don't stress yourself into thinking you need an asian tier skincare routine, you may not need it!

Koreans have face brushes too, electric ones as well but most are manual soap-on-a-rope kind. I have one from Tosowoong and it's really nice, I think Nature Republic or some other company sells a cheaper one. It's more hygienic than your hands and good for gentle scrubbing, but I don't think it does all that much.

I use mine with a Korean skin care routine and it works a treat. I use oil based makeup remover right now though, I need a good cleansing oil. I remove makeup, (cleansing oil step) then use a foam cleanser with my clarisonic at night then do the rest. Mizon's snail repair cream works wonderfully with it.

I really love Algenist's eye cream, but I have to do my skincare routine further from my bed time because it keeps me awake. I can feel it for some reason, but it's the only eye cream that's helped my dark circles.

Too much physical exfoliation can be harmful to your skin, especially your face which is a very delicate area. Most people recommend physical exfoliation only once a week, but if your skin can handle it you can go to 2/3 times.

I'm in the camp of gentle physical exfoliation being okay more often (microfibre cloths, some peeling gels and dissolving gel scrubs, etc) but I've never used a brush for that so I don't know if you want to consider it gentle exfoliation. Also ofc, sunscreen becomes twice as important after any kind of exfoliation.

How much exfoliation do you think your skin needs anon? I think even the Clarisonic site recs using it only three times a week (or was that the Clinique one?). Do you think maybe using chemical exfoliants every few days would be good for you? Mizon, cosrx and Benton all have alright ones iirc(none have great bhas though).

I'm getting the biore watery essence next week or so, after I try it would you guys like a little review? ngl I'm thinking about getting the aloe vera sunblock by skinfood as well because it's 100+ mls for 15$.

You need a AHA (Lactic acid), not a BHA (Salycylic acid). BHA is more for people with oily skin.
>I use it every night after I wash my face but I feel my acne gets worse
You do a peel once a week at most. If you're using a low concentration (like 4-12% in a cream) then you can use that daily. Lay off the acid, change your pillowcases, no physical exfoliation and cut out the sugary food completely. Also,

I'm doing a Korean style skin routine and it really helps!

>Cetaphil Gentle Foaming Cleanser
>Hyularonic Acid Serum (no fillers, just HA, water and preservative)
>Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid
>Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream
>Ponds Clarant b5 (niacinamide) moisturizer

(I know I'm missing the oil cleanser, I ran out a while back)

I'm trying to finish up a Mandelic Acid Peel (its pretty low strength), upon finishing it I will reincorporate my Alpha Hydrox 14% AHA serum. I likewise hope to swap out the Hyularonic Acid Serum for a vitamin C serum with a Hyaluronic acid base. Its a lot of ingredients but I feel like its made a huge difference in my skin. It'll be a bear to figure out how to incorporate all those actives into my routine properly but my skin looks sooo much better with this more complex routine. I've used the AHA serum and Vit C at different points so I already know they work well with my skin, I've just purposefully neglected to include them into my current regiment. I was worried about purging and bad interactions.

Does anyone have any Vit C serum reccs? Paula's Choice is supposed to have a good one, Cosmetic Skin Solutions has one so similar to the oft-praised Skinceauticuls Vit C+Ferulic Acid serum that they went to court over it.

Anons, recently my crap service job is giving me a TON of hours, which is great for the bank, but my skin has been suffering as a result. My skin is almost always dry dry dry. I am constantly flaky and my makeup looks awful on me now. I'm also breaking out more than I ever have - it's not awful, but somehow more than my skin ever did when it was just oily. Plus, smaller issue, but my hands are super dry too and I'm really prone to dings and cuts now.

I'm planning on going on a skincare shopping spree in a few days - thinking about picking up a brown sugar exfoliating mask and a nice moisturizer from my local Sephora because I'm an idiot and have no idea where to shop for skincare shit, and I'm assuming that the price tags mean business. If you think it's the cleanser though I'd hop over to a different one. Fragrances can really fuck you up so it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case. Maybe a very neutral cleanser like cetaphil or cerave, or even an oil depending on your sensitivities would be a good idea?

Well, the toner that I use all the time now is one I make. I have pretty oily skin and it's very acne prone.
The ingredients are three part, so:
>1:3 Apple Cider Vinegar. The stuff with the "mother"
>1:3 Witch Hazel
>1:3 Green Tea

The green tea, you steep it for around 20 minutes when you're using it for topical purposes, and should be quality green tea, not Liptons or whatever. You want it for the antioxidents. I do the recipe in thirds because it's what is most affective on my skin, but I've heard of people using more green tea than ACV or Witch Hazel to water it down. Also, if you want you can add a few drops of lavender oil for soothing purposes. I have really bad reactions to anything fragrance and unfortunately, lavender oil falls under that category for me.

If you use green tea, you should store the toner in your fridge and it will keep for about 2 weeks. So it's easier to keep in small amounts. Instead of using green tea, if you want to make it in bulk or weaker, you can use distilled water and just keep it in your medicine cabinet. (or if you're lazy, some water from a brita lol)

But the ACV, Green Tea, and Witch Hazel toner has to be the only thing that really works for my skin. The Witch Hazel has done wonders in shrinking the size of my pores as well, so if anons are looking to shrink pores on their nose, just swab some Witch Hazel over it daily if you're not looking for a toner.

I have basically the equivalent from Dr Scholls, and I wouldn't use it when the skin is wet. It works by wearing down at the hard, dead skin of callouses, and I would think using it after the shower would just tear and cut more than buff.

My feet aren't super calloused, and from reading "really dry", yours aren't either. I'd buff at the dry spots in the evening, slather some thick lotion on those bad boys, and sleep in socks to let it penetrate overnight. I love pic related, since I'm not a huge fan of scents, and it's incredibly moisturizing. Usually in a waxing kit you have these napkins soaked in some soothing oil solution to help you remove the wax residue.

Since peeling it myself is impossible and I can't get someone to do it for me (tfw no gf), what's the best way to deal with this? Would a rough brush work for peeling? Or are there maybe cremes or something I can apply to the area?

for this kind of product it says to only use it about once a week, but in my case i mix it with braggs acv with the mother and use it everyday for a week, usually for an hour and sleeping in it one night out of the 5-7 days. If youonlyuse it once it actually makes acne worse imo as it brings everything to the surface, but not fully. repeated treatments are recommended and a bright red complexion for like 30 minutes afterwards is normal, for me it makes my skin an even tone and and regulated the amount of oil my face produces.

I do my usual skincare routine in the morning and at night, but I've been having bad breakouts recently, and I've noticed it's easier to control if i rinse my face when I get home from school or work, and reapply my toner. Sunscreen prevents darkening/scarring. thinner skin from a healed scrape, pimple, or whatever is more sensitive to the sun than usual thusly scarring/hyper pigmentation is far more likely to happen. sorta like how it's easier to burn your chest/neck than your feet (usually I mean)
it keeps the good things from being undone essentially

as for the cetaphil, you mean face wash? generally once in the morning and then again in the evening. but it depends on you and your skin.

Maybe the roommate gets these really intensive chemical peels that leave your skin needing time to recover. Those were the only ones I'd heard of until a few years ago, when more chemical exfoliants a started appearing on the market.
The weekly (or even daily) ones are a lot more gentle and lower in concentration - they stimulate your skin to shed its top layer but they don't cause a layer of skin to actually peel off. They're much more gradual than that and your skin adapts to them.

I'm talking about cinnamon pills, anon, not swapping sugar with cinnamon. Cassia cinnamon helps balance blood sugar levels, and while having some in the morning with your tea or coffee or oatmeal is good, if you're looking to actually prevent sugar induced breakouts, you take the supplements as you do with any other vitamin. It's like...you could eat a ton of sunflower seeds and shit for fatty acids and crap but that's not always enough, which is why you have fish oil supplements, etc.

Pic related, cinnamon supplements.

>> No.8016696

>>8016209
anon, sometimes it's not sugar that causes breakouts, but rather glucose. There are a lot of people who have to cut glucose out of their diet because it's what's causing their acne. On the other hand, it could be the sugar. Do some research on glucose and acne, but in the meanwhile, try to introduce healthier foods into your diet because you sound kind of reluctant to change your eating habbits.

Also listen to the anon about the cinnamon supplements if you're a big dessert eater. And simply do more research or see a dermatologist if it's a big problem, because like I said, it's not always exactly sugar causing breakouts, but a shitty diet does contribute a lot to it.
