I've considered doing the party princess gig because I could use some extra cash. How exactly does one get started?

The other thing I was curious about is do people expect the princesses to look exactly like the character e.g. born to cosplay that character or is there leeway?

Dealing with a couple is easier than dealing with 30 coked up on birthday cake.

some are just normalfag girls trying to work
some are girls trying to fullfill his fantasyes of being princess i get it
some are cheaps cosplayers trying to get money for living or shitty cospalys
but at the end of the day all of them have to work with children i mean its already bad for those who have mental problems (princess complex) but tolerate other peoples kid for hours, for money, if anything i only feel bad for them
if anyone really needs to shame them even for fun you're just worst fisicaly or really have the selfsteam over zero fuck its obvious they are gonna suck they work for less than a prostitute

do you want decent princess go to fucking disney even so they arent all models but the fucking costuems are better made, you cant expect to hire perfection for your childs on birthday budget on yellow pages

I am well aware of that. People hire a princess to entertain and occupy the kids for a while. Kids hopped up on candy and sweets are not a problem for me, I teach 2nd graders, they are like this pretty much all day, every day.

Babysitting is all well and good but it was my understanding that party princesses were there for like 1-2 hours, not all evening or overnight like some babysitting jobs tend to be.

Not exactly princess parties, but my brother's a normalfag and for my nephew's fourth birthday, he bought a Spiderman costume off of Amazon and surprised the kids during the birthday party. He wanted to do something special for his son, and at the time my nephew was obsessed with Spiderman. It was a cute party, it was some kids from the daycare at this children's gymnastics place where the kids all went for some school gymnastics program.

But my brother does conditioning and trains MMA fighters, and he wound up teaching a kid's conditioning class at his gym where "Spiderman" was the teacher. He loved it, but said it was hot as shit having to fight and run after kids in a body suit. But everyone seemed to love it, I think my brother was living his childhood dream of being Spiderman just like how some of these girls want to be actual princesses.

Ah man, I went to college with this chick. I'm fond of how she handles it, and for her it really has a lot to do with charity and being with kids. Also I really love her costumes.

I work at a fabric store, and I have a customer who does Princess parties. Her dresses are a bit simple, but I'm sure it's fine for kids, and they love her! She's a nice chick- a bit brash? But really, a nice girl. But she RAINS her business cards everywhere, on everything. She hands them out to customers hanging out in line, to every cashier, all the time... We don't have a spot for business cards because corporate policy, and it's just awkward.

I mean, girl's got hustle, but it's about a step short of soliciting. Is there an appropriate way to get word out without stuffing pictures of you in a Disney outfit to anyone who stands still.

I've belonged to a knock off princess company, and while parts of it kinda suck, mainly my boss being into it only for the money, and having to hide how excited I am to essentially cosplay for pay in front of the other "normie" princess performers, there's no denying that it's an awesome job if you love hanging out with kids. The pay is very good, but I've volunteered my time with kids before being hired so it wasn't the highest perk for me so much as spending time doing crafts and storytime with kids.

Highlights include:
A 5 year old making a craft card for me to hang on the "palace door", it's addressed "To Snow White, from Meadow" with hearts and stickers. Be still my heart from such cuteness.

Meeting such awesome kids who are convinced you are the real Anna, that you actually live in ________ land.

One party I did, the girls followed me everywhere and kept asking if they could sit on my lap during cake time, or sit next to me during storytime.

I had a 5 year old ask me if I was going to marry Kristoff, and I casually said "Oh, no I think I'm going to marry Hans, I've just met Kristoff!" (My Anna wig still has her mid movie streak in it). Cue 7 young girls grabbing my hands and telling me very seriously, no he's a bad guy! He tries to kill you later, and then Kristoff kisses you and you two should get married!

Pic related: One of my costumes, sans elizabethan collar I am still fiddling with.

Overall, it's a lot of fun, and I would recommend setting up your own company rather than going with a pre existing one.

$75 to for an hour, $100 for hour and a half. Includes a number of crafts and games that you supply, as well as storytime and a song if the kids and parents wish. For frozen parties I bring foam crowns or wands to decorate, a game, and storybook to read.

Kids are amazing, I've never really had any issues with them during parties. Some times the group may be a bit shy at the beginning, but the trick is to introduce yourself and get right onto activities to "break the ice" essentially. Once they figure out you're here to have fun, they loosen up and smile a lot.

Hiring process: I heard there was about 80 auditions so to speak. They asked what our experience was with children, and music/acting. I had experience in choir/musicals/kindergarten, so I was told that day they'd give me a call in the future. Some of the questions were like
"If a child is crying by herself in the corner what should you do?"

My answer was "While working in a kindergarten setting I've learned that if a child is crying, it's because they're having a communication issue. I think it's important to take the child aside and ask them to try and explain why they feel sad, and then encourage them to come play a game with the group once the problem is solved"

Another girl answered, "My niece is a crybaby just like that so when she cries you just have to ignore it because they just want attention, and they'll get over it eventually." She wasn't hired.

One thing I do wish happened was a singing audition: I've done a few parties along with Elsa's who are almost tone deaf. This hurts the ears. Or girls who are too embarassed to sing their parts. It would be nice when we're singing a duet, if they could learn their parts, but I don't want to cause a stir by being that one princess performer who is too into it, so I usually just cover for them, and don't mention it. This is part of the reason I'm thinking of leaving and going solo.

I don't think having a storyline with Spiderman is the most important part. It's 7 year olds at most you'll be entertaining. It's more important to choose someone with a PG but fun and obviously superhero costume that will be a good conversation topic and point of interaction for little kids. Even if they don't know who you are, you can always tell them about your powers and do stories from the comics. Please don't do a superhero girlfriend. That's so lame, and you'll have nothing to talk about with them.

Start with Elsa. Every single party I've worked the parents have wanted Elsa. Events are usually where I get to wear something non frozen related. So far I've got Anna, Snow White, and a mediocre Rapunzel, and my first priority is making an Elsa for my own parties

Price yourself for your time, materials being used (crafts, books you'll buy, games you'll make) as well as travel costs. I like to stick with 100$ for the hour. Other companies in my area offer 200-300$ for the parties, you'll want an advantage over the official disney groups.

Another thing to note is that due to liscensing purposes you'll have to alter your designs, and name your princesses differently than Disney companies: Snow Queen, mermaid Princess, it sucks, but it's better than getting sued.

Make sure you have a police check available and references to give to parents who are interested. My best advice would be prepare to do a lot of volunteering for publicity, there's only so much harassing with business cards you can do. The best thing would be to get out there and do your princess thing in a setting: childrens hospital, school fun days in the kindergarten room, leave flyers up in the community center. If you're in it for only the money, then it's probably not the best job

Pic related: Be prepared for parties where the parents want a certain Princess you don't have a dress for in 2 weeks. You will say yes, and you will try to make that outfit for that party, results may vary.

>> No.7990671

I've been a party princess for almost 2 years now! I'm a normal person who likes and admires cosplay but is really bad at it. I posted a photo on a local generic sell/trade page and literally got flooded with messages. I quoted £50 for an hour, which includes a present for the birthday girl, goody bags for her friends and a frozen toy for pass the parcel.
Just spent the week dressing up, playing Pin the Nose on Olaf, reading stories and playing party games. Thank God for the Elsapocolypse.

They literally just did. We know they can't look exactly like the Disney dress, that isn't why they look like shit. Elsa's basic design includes a mesh shirt, and her hair definitely shouldn't be that long, or thick but that's less of an issue. You sure you're not one of these princesses, anon?

in the SA thread she even mentioned a couple of lolitas who attempted to commission her when she was selling little girl's princess dresses. 'attempted' because they'd want super complex designs but then not want to shell out more than a 100 bucks for a made to order piece. i wouldn't be surprised if that put her off commissions/that sort of thing, i'd be more than willing to pay burando prices for a good quality dress.

She does the princess thing to pay bills, plus a ton of princessing for charity, plus she makes little girl's princess dresses (sounds like they're sold through the princess company maybe?), plus does costuming for theater I think, plus her book that people have been begging for since the first forum posts, plus apparently some kind of Bizenghast based video game she's been approached to do? And I think she now is making costumes and props for the company she works for in addition to her own costumes. That is a fuckload of work to deal with.

Different anon so let me try instead.
>costumes do not fit well
>some appear to not be lined/interfaced
>wildly varying quality going on, should be more uniform for a group

Individually:
>Ariel- top and skirt are wildly different in quality, top looks great actually but skirt is hella plain. A belt or some sequins would benefit her greatly
>Snow White- Can't see much? Wig looks like it might be a lil frizzy, dress is cheap satin but passable, might need better fitting and a long petticoat or slip would help a lot
>Rapunzel- Top needs more structure, and I'd say bring the colors up just a tiiiiny bit from being so pastel, they're blending too much. Add more different shades. Also she'd look better in a more natural-gold wig with softer bangs
>Anna- the worst honestly, her wig is great but outfit is just all over bad. The top is badly fitted with no structure and in neon colors and the skirt is so faded and loose. The colors should be along the same tones and the greens especially should match. It would be so much easier to buy black velvet for the top and either bridal satin or taffeta in one shade of green, one shade of red or pink, and one shade of gold. Try to replicate the box pleats on the original but just do simple shapes or even just a center stripe of the red/pink over the gold. Properly fit the top and applique simplified shapes using the matching fabrics from the skirt
>Elsa- better wig for sure, looks like maybe she also plays Rapunzel and just used the same wig for both? A less thick wig with more tapered ends and maybe in a colder shade of blonde would work way better. Her dress could use more support underneath (shapewear or better lining or boning or SOMETHING) but is otherwise ok for a party dress from what I can see. She definitely needs sleeves and cape though. I think a bolero with attached cape would not only look great on her and be easy to deal with but also be a 'unique' point for copyright purposes

>> No.8002426

>>8002411
Also in fairness
>Batman- mask looks pretty accurate to Burton/Keaton movies? thats all I can see so good job A+
>Jack- could use more wear on costume and more bobbly bits. Jack always has a fuck ton of treasure and bobbles and weird shit and kids love that shit, and it just looks too fucking clean
>Spidey needs a better quality suit. Its too loose and too thin and papery. Maybe get a lined or double layer suit, and a little bit of foam padding if he wants to look extra buff

Honestly the dudes are way more on model than the girls, as far as copyright infringement goes. I suspect Batman especially is wearing movie prop gear.

I'd love to do redesigning for party companies but I have no idea how to even approach that job. Making costumes unique but identifiable sounds like a fun challenge, and I have experience making costumes that fit a range of people too from a past job.

>and came at 3:40pm and still wanted a full hours pay for 20minutes of work.

The friend's mom said she still performed for an hour, though?

>thanked her for coming and for her time and tipped HER generously for her hour

The issue seems to be that the party mermaid's company requires full payment up front, but the mom didn't want to pay her the full price because the mom thought she was getting Ariel/The Little Mermaid and instead got a "well-endowed" mermaid performer (who is more covered than Ariel yet somehow apparently inappropriate for little kids??). Party mermaid says her company told the woman she isn't Ariel, mom's friend says that the mom told the company she wanted Ariel.

it's absolutely unprofessional to be late, but she wasn't hours late and the issue appears to be that the mom refused to pay her in full because she wasn't Ariel. It sounds like the company this person works for uses a picture of Ariel for their 'mermaid,' which is something they need to fix.

>who is more covered than Ariel yet somehow apparently inappropriate for little kids??
It's not about whether you're covered or not, it's about if you've sexualized it. You can be completely naked and not be sexual at all, but put on a corset, short bloomers and thigh high socks and everything changes (or even fetish gear, a lot of that covered but is still sexual). It's all how you go about doing it, and in this case it looks like she stepped out of a nightclub and has her tits on display. Ariel doesn't have any cleavage (or very, very little for that matter) and doesn't present herself in a way that can be seen as provocative, added to the fact that I presume a lot of entertainers would wear a bodysuit under the shells anyway.
