Anons, how do you bundle up while in lolita? Coat recommendations? Layering tricks? Uniqlo heattech? Don't go outside?

>> No.7965838

>>7965789
Uniqlo heatech is super effective with lolita, probably because lolita clothing fits close to the body sealing in the heat on your torso. Your legs are left comparatively colder but I hear fleece lined tights are good for that. Of course at a certain temperature wearing lolita isn't feasible though.

I was just about to ask this! Are uniqlo heattech tights effective? I am planning to pick up some of their heattech tops for layering under blouses too.

Any advice on some snow-friendly loliable shoes? Moving to an area that snows a lot and I have no idea how to prepare myself since I'm from california.

>> No.7965902

>>7965870
I love the tops, but have never tried the tights - I have seen some girls who wear them as a skiing base layer, for what it's worth.
The important thing about snow friendly shoes is grip and snowproofness, so normal stores with loliable shoes are the best thing for that.

I've been wanting to buy one of their bags and it doesn't seem to be that popular, so I was hoping it might go on sale.

I just finally stocked up on heattech stuff, because I'll be travelling to scandivia soon-ish and really want to wear lolita. I hope they're as good as everyone says.

Are there any places you can recommend for loliable winter boots for big feet (27cm)? Preferrably within the EU. Tried all my regular shoe shops, no luck.

I live in NYC and stocked up on some leggings and heattech undershirts from them. The heattech tights and leggings are probably not going to be great on their own in weather under 30 degrees. You may have to layer. They have thick tights I've never tried, though.

Testing out the leggings on my own today one more time. Guess I'll post results later?

I kinda want to know more about lolita as I'm interested in the fashion but I have a couple of questions:

I sometimes do gijinka-type cosplays: so long as I wasn't claiming it to be a lolita piece/ outfit, I'm guessing it's ok to experiment with 'lolita-esque' outfits? (I'm trying to give myself fashion side projects to build on my sewing/making skills as well as make something that's different from what I ususally wear).

Aside from some of the threads here, where else ought an aspiring lolita lurk prior to buying, etc?

OMFG I AM SO PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW
Ok, so this chick from my countries comm sales was selling a dream dress of mine for a really good price, but I had to let it go because of reasons, and then by the time I could buy it, someone else had bought it. Another girl is now reselling it for $300 more than she paid for it, and I am so furious about this. She also isn't mentioning that she smokes and has a cat in her description when selling.
What I find especially irritating is that she KNOWS she is scalping it, because she just made two sales posts in different sales comms. She of course didn't post the $500 jsk in our sales comm where she bought it, because nobody is going to spend that much on a $200 jsk that was just sold in it a few months ago.
It made me cry, I am so sad that I will never have this jsk...

I guess it's our comm's turn to have a crazy girl. The worst we've had were cheap weebs, but they've quieted down since people stopped answering.

A younger-looking girl posted a picture of herself earlier, and mentioned she "liked this bow, and notice her crazy colored eyes." Okay whatever. I just check tonight and she's posted the classic "It's not lolita but I'm proud of it" ensemble, which is of course poorly put together. Then mentions she's trying to look less pregnant. As a classic lolita, I can wear long dresses. Long dresses + bloomers + thermal tights + high socks + boots = win.
I wear a thin thermal undershirt under my blouse.
Maybe add a cardigan over that.
Woolen Lolita coat.
Fake fur or vintage fur stole instead of scarf for added classiness.
Hats with built-in clips/ hat pins.
Hair low to keep my ears warm/add extra neck coverage.
I use silk lined leather gloves too.

This is the first time I ever ordered from them too, and I am pissed. Something clearly happened here, but instead of trying to figure it out with me they just ban me?

There is a comb behind the canotier. Stick that into your hair. Then slide bobby pins right over the comb, catching both the comb and your hair. Do this in an "X" formation, ie- cross the bobby pins. It's a lot stronger. Also use tight bobby pins, the ones that are old and gaping already.

You can also pin down the ribbon as it comes out from either side of the canotier (also two pins in "x" formation), try to hide the bobby pins under the ruffles.

Once you've done that the thing should be pretty secure on your head. Gently smooth out the ribbons down to the back of your head and gently tie a bow there. GENTLY. The ribbon is not the thing that holds the canotier to your head, it's now just hanging off the mass of "x"-ed bobby pins underneath the canotier. The idea is to stick the canotier to your head and then it's easier to tie the bow behind your neck.

If you reallly can't seem to secure the canotier with however many bobby pins, consider stitching and alligator clip or three to the underside of the canotier.

Cosplayer here, just bought my first lolita dress and have questions about petticoats

I purchased a dear celine cupcake and a myvictoriagirl aline, but I'm really not happy with the material and how it feels. For those f you who sew, would it be possible to get the right amount of poof with a 3-4 tiered circle skirt (4x my waist), which each tier using horse hair braid?
http://doxiequeen1.wordpress.com/2012/03/25/the-adventures-of-making-a-fluffy-skirt--the-making-of-napoleon-eiyuu-senki--part-1/

I was thinking of using polyester lining, but I can't imagine the weight of the materials after they have all been combined.

I am really looking for a crinoline type petticoat that provides maximum poof without looking ridiculous, and I am trying to avoid layering as multiple elastics hurt my stomach. The issue with the chiffon/tulle is that it tends to bunch up and cause dips or crevices in my dress

Thanks in advance!

okayyyyy

this:
should work provided you got the proportions correct.

Here's why you need different petticoats (bear with me, I'm going to tell you why tiered circle skirts don't work):

Rectangle skirts are made from a rectangle of fabric. Usually you can tell if there is a border print, or if it's a gingham print and you can see it runs straight along the hem.
- On a rectangle skirt the poof happens mostly around the hips, not around the knees. If you wear an A-line petticoat under a rectangle skirt, your hip area will be saggily sad, while your skirt your hem area will look weird because there is a sudden poof and then a drop where the petti ends.

On most other skirt designs (tiered, A-line, circle, trapezoid), the skirt opens out gradually, the poof happens closer to the knees rather than at the hips.
- On these other skirts you will need an A-line petti. If you try to stuff a cupcake petti under one of these skirts your hip area will be overstuffed, and your hem area will be limp

So. The "tiered circle petticoat" will have a lot of poof in the hem, but very limited poof in the hip area. They definitely don't work for rectangle skirts.
They *might* work for other skirt styles, but in general it's easier and uses less fabric to use a circle skirt only for the top tier and then gathered rectangles for the bottom tiers.

The reason organdy and soft tulle petticoats are popular is because lolita is a fashion, not a costume you put on for a few hours and then never wear again. Comfort is a very big deal if you're going to be wearing those clothes a lot while doing everyday things. Organdy and soft tulle are soft and easy to sit on, and cleaning them is as easy as tossing them in the washing machine. They also don't wear out as quickly as stiff tulle, although you can starch stiff tulle once it's worn out, nobody wants to do that on a daily basis, it's easier to replace your petticoats every 2-3 years.

>> No.7972732

>>7972716

If you want to avoid elastics, since you can sew, the shortcut way would be to snip the existing elastic out of the petticoats you already have, and then attach a regular skirt waistband (same waistband as you would sew for any of your costumes).

Dips and crevices:
- first, you're never going to get all the fabric in certain skirt styles completely smoothed out. The rectangle ones in particular will always have fabric folds because it's gathered at the waist. Ditto tiered skirts.
- second, make sure you actually have enough poof. Check to make sure it's not the wrong shape petti for your skirt or the fabric being too heavy.

- Third. You can make an underskirt that goes over your petticoat and under your lolita skirt. Make it out of a stiff material that doesn't wrinkle or drape, it will cover the dips and crevices in your organdy petticoats so that your skirt lies smooth on top.

It came out as part of a three-way collab:
- Baby the Stars Shine Bright (lolita brand)
- Volks (BJDs)
- Nakamura Asumiko (mangaka, contributes to GLB and writes yaoi and shoujo manga).

In terms of following, all three are heavyweights in their own field.

pic is the BJD that came out with it. This specific doll is Lieselotte, very popular head mold. Even without clothes/collab she gets scalped a lot. Basically, they threw all the most popular things they could put together into one collaboration.

So pretty much if you were very, very, very heavily into both BJDs and lolita you would either be scrambling for funds to buy the 93,000yen doll and the 52500yen OP and 11340yen bonnet when all of them came out at once way back then (there's also a ginger tea doll, OP and bonnet), or trying to pay someone, anyone, 200000yen for the OP now, ages after the release.

btw the print series that came out with it is Marionette in My Closet Room. I think most lolitas said it's fug and full of empty spaces, but it sold out anyway and doesn't come up for sale often. BJD x lolita people probably bought that series up too.

I'm really wondering though, how do you actually make a cupcake shaped petti? I don't own one, I usually create the shape by stacking a shorter A-line on top of another. How do you do it? I have about 10 yards or organza and a ruffle foot lying around, but I can't figure it out.

>>7973410

deja vu, I could've sworn I answered this in the last thread.

Anyway, you did hit the nail on the head, even if you don't know it.

The point of a cupcake petti is that the widest poof should happen around your hips. So instead of an A-line petticoat being, eg- 3 tiers going 1.5-3-6 metres wide in each successive tier, for a cupcake petti, the first tier right under the waistband is already ~3 m and then, the final tier starts around your hips or a bit above, and goes down to your knees/hem.

Stacking a shorter A-line does the same thing, the final tier on your shorter A-line starts around your hips, which is what provides the cupcake shape. The longer A-line starts its poof below your hips and does the job of continuing to poof the skirt where the shorter A-line has ended.

Uh no, you're confusing Kodona with EGA(or maybe dandy). Either way, Kodona and Ouji are interchangeable terms. Kodona is one used exclusively in the west and Ouji is the Japanese term for the style. It means prince so it's been getting used in the west much more often now since it makes more sense. I'm not entirely sure where Kodona came from but it can be loosely translated as a play on words for "tomboy style".

I'm in a similar boat right now as I'm changing my wardrobe over from all black into more jewel tones and dresses.
Currently living in the jeans/hoodie combo.

I've been doing my buying in this order:
Shoes and nice handbag in neutral colors(brown & cream)
Tops for jeans (peter pan collars, cute jumpers, simple blouses, fitted jackets)
Tights
Dresses
-Cotton maxi dresses for summer
-Chunky knit and texture for winter

I just got my tracking number from CC and it looks like it's a reused one from last year. How long does it take to refresh in the system? The japanese site and USPS website are also giving me different years and zipcodes from when it was last used(japanese site says it was in my zipcode area) I guess I'm being a little obsessive but I'm leaving in a few days so I want to know where my item is.

I mean if they were going to mention a film, why didn't they do the first one with Shirley Temple?

I adore the Gothic one, the classic does have some weird legage, but you did say they were quick sketches.
