Let's see some /cgl/ related rooms!

>Do you keep your cosplay weapons hung up on the wall or shove them in an umbrella stand?
>I know some lolitas display their dresses on hangers outside, good or bad idea?
>A distant aunt of mine went to Japan years ago and returned with a fancy kimono she uses as a living room wall hanging. I've been thinking about doing the same when I get a place of my own. Thoughts?

Bedrooms, living rooms, workspaces, house exteriors, all are welcome in this thread. Any themes from Mana-sama's sex dungeon to the worst Akibahara threw up are fine. The more variety the better. Feel free to self post your rooms as well.

Also I know I do it, but you really shouldn't display dresses on your walls. They can fade in the sun, and they get really furry/dusty if you have pets. It's better to store them on a clothesrack with a cover on top.

Same here. The original show's resolution was so poor that getting a clean pull from it would be impossible.

I'd saw see if you can get an imagine from SMC. That has a much nicer quality. Then go on groupon or something and get one of those canvas deals where they will print it and frame it on real canvas.

This is the best I've found so far. It's very pretty, but I'd prefer it without Serenity there. I don't know if that's a standard size in the US, but I don't see frames in that shape here. It's too short, so I'd have to get something custom.

Anyone have any ideas for 2 opposites living together?
I want to redo my room and pretty much my entire house, but husband is a black-wearing, pierced metalhead fool, and I'm more into popping colors or shabby chic, thought I think shabby chic is better for main rooms.

He HATES girly things and especially the color pink.
Ideas/Inspo on what might work for the both of us?

I wish, I just stuff them where I can find a place for them. Half of them need thowing away anyway since I'll never use them again. I hang up all my con badges though on my pinboard.

Thankfully I have a much bigger space to use for making cosplay, my room is just storage.

I'm in a similar situation although my bf is a little more lax about how the bedroom looks. I plan to get some
Neutral/dark blankets over white sheets and add colored accent pillows. Like pic related with maybe more true- white sheets and cases and throw in a dark color velvet accent pillow or something. Still darker but still cute with some color here and there.
For other rooms I think shabby chic is
a good idea and easy to do neutrally. Find art that you both like and be adamant about not wanting a boring all-black/masculine room even it it just means a small table or some colorful decorations here and there

>tfw shitty room in shitty run-down apartment complex

I-I just want a cool room. When I lived at home, my mother was very strict about our rooms, only she was allowed to decorate them, and we were not allowed to hang posters or anything of the sort. All the art, furniture, and bedding were things that she picked out for us.

Now I can't really afford to make my room cool, and the complex doesn't allow us to paint. Life is suffering.

How many do you have? Do you have enough walls to hang them on?

If you've got a manageable number of posters that you really love, frame them up like anon says, then space them out on the available walls. If you haven't planned any layout in your rooms yet, plan where you're going to put things like the tv, the fridge, and the shelves first, since having a living space that works is more important than living in a poster gallery. The hang the posters on the remaining wall space.

(I know pic doesn't have the posters in frames. If you don't feel up to framing them up (it's pricey), you can chose not to. Framing them up protects them from dust and accidental tears, which in turn suggests the posters are important to you).

If you have a bunch of posters that kind of go together (all similarly colourful) you could pick out a wall and make a poster collage on it.

Just be careful with your poster choice, or it could look really messy. If you don't feel like painting in borders, you could leave the wall white and space them out, or use washi tape as borders to seperate the posters.

Here's my tiny shoujo bedroom. I've moved some things around since I took these.

My big rule was to have frames for everything- every print, poster, everything went in frames. You'd be surprised how classy something looks once you stick it in a frame! Especially with a mat around it. You can find super cheap, nice ones on ebay, even funky sizes. Anything that was too small to frame very well was put on a corkboard or on the fridge. With figures and things too, they were regulated to specific display areas.

eh, I knew that going into it. I kinda never had a "little girl" room growing up I guess, with big, heavy antique furniture and so on. I'm not in any relationship where bringing home someone to the bedroom would be happening, and even then, they should know enough about me by now to know that I enjoy the aesthetic in there. I feel part of it is the size/proportions, too. It's a tiny-ass room, the bed easily takes up a good 3/5ths of it.

As it happens, I tried to make the rest of my house "grownup" looking. Pic related.

>>7941998
The black things are no longer there! Again, pic's a bit old. I found better little organizers in more-fitting colors.

As for the mirror-covering, some of it is for dust/keeping it clean, but to be honest with you, since it faces my bed, it's mainly to block my reflection so I don't scare the living shit out of myself when I sit up at night.

Here's one with the insides of the cupboards painted pink, and part of the outsides painted with cute graphics.

You could do blue inside instead of pink if you prefer, and instead of paint you could use other materials -- like cute patterned wallpaper on just the back wall of the cupboards, or those wallpaper stickers on the cupboards instead of painting it. Just try to keep the designs in balance, don't cover your entire kitchen with kawaii graphics.

At least you've got a nice colour of cream to start off with, do you have any major limitations in terms of what you're allowed to do to the place we should keep in mind?

The first thing I'd suggest, either way, is adding in a second accent colour in there to offset the cream. Right now the first thing my eye is drawn to is that little blue organiser system and nothing but. If you want to go for that blue, go ahead. If not, maybe consider painting/covering it to match whatever you choose so it isn't the sole focal point of your room.
Don't really know your style/personality, but with the bird decals and whatnot, and the wood flooring, I'd almost suggest a combination of pale green and pale blue accents? Make it kinda cutesy naturey?

Mine isn't horrible like a couple of the ones on MFC, but it's definitely not on par with the other Koto figures I own (they aren't the top company but they're usually pretty clean). It's mostly the sculpt of the hair that's really sloppy, and some of the paint on the seifuku. Mine is pretty nice, but in general they all have the same problem that I wouldn't expect from a $100+ figure. It's not noticeable unless you're looking at it though, and I honestly love her nonetheless. It still looks like the pictures and the colours are nice and the face is cute.

Also you can see the top of the head before you open the box so it's easy to see if they fucked up before you open it.

Everything except the sofa, the little console behind the sofa, and the sari pouf were thrifted and repainted, scavenged (side table was literally drug out of an alley) or inherited from my great grandmother. The most expensive furniture piece was the bed frame, craigslisted for $200. Most of it was under $50. I'm still stoked I got my vanity for $30. I literally started looking for furniture when I was 15, and for about two years before I moved out. I was really really fortunate that I had the time to hunt and seek and space to store my stuff till I moved.

But a lot of people and most of my friends weren't so lucky. They had to move quickly, and therefore buy a ton of furniture at once. It didn't matter what the furniture looked like so long as it worked. So a mishmash of handmedowns and IKEA and things snatched quickly on Craigslist that don't necessarily all go together. At the very least it looks comfy as hell anon.

Hey seagulls, I got a cheap new desk recently but it looks vastly different compared to the rest of my furniture. It's a very light brown which looks out of place next to the rich brown of the rest of my furniture, and quite frankly horrendous in comparison. I've one wall painted dark purple, and the other three are lilac which I painted over the summer. I still have enough paint left from the dark purple pot, so I am thinking of painting the desk that colour.

Is this a bad idea? I literally don't know the first thing about painting furniture.

sand it down before you paint

Where did you get your bedspread? It's neat as hell.

>> No.7952598

>>7952583
Yeah, I was thinking that myself. The sides look pretty bad, all wood chippings although it is reasonably smooth. I'll give it that extra sanding just in case.

Looked up a couple of guides and it seems I'd need a primer, and a sealer (although the only kind of sealer at my local DIY store is a spray - would that do?) besides the usual paint supplies. Is there anything else that I'd need to know? It's fresh out of the box so I don't believe I've to condition it or anything.

>> No.7952603

>>7952598
in my experience (parents used to be decorators) the standard procedure is sand - prime - sand again with a finer grit to get a smoother surface (you may need to, depends on how rough your surface is) - paint (normally 2 - 3 coats) - seal, my parents always used sprays. it's important to leave it 24 hours between your last coat of paint and your sealant.

Cool, I'll keep that in mind. I'll attempt painting it over the next two weeks and will post before and after pictures in a room decor thread that happens to be up. Thanks for the advice!

I would test a small patch that you could hide if it turns out poorly. It sounds like it is made of composite wood and a veneer, in which case those are really hard to sand down and paint nicely. I recently painted my kitchen cabinets (which was a bitch) and I had solid wood ones from the 70's and one stand alone pre-fab newer one. The pre-fab one was much harder to sand/paint the the wood ones, and it still doesn't look as nice.
tl;dr I would only do a small little section first to see if it looks good

Some really cute and cosy looking rooms here. I'd like to take a stab at getting some stylin' up in this bitch, with a bit of sophistiweeb inspiration and perhaps rooms that fit more with j-fash etc. I do like all the plushies etc but for me a bit of interior design nous into the mix is nice too.

Depends what you're looking for - I used to do a black queen size fuzzy faux mink blanket + black fur throw + brocade pillow cases/pillows on my bed for a textured gothic look, and since the throw + pillows cover the blanket (which was just there to hide the ugly bedframe) it worked well for me.

That Deny Designs site another anon linked looked amazing, but unfortunately no singles. Amazon only do twee floral shit (not twee enough to actually look nice though, if you get what I mean) and yeah, local places here only do very plain bedspreads or kid ones.
