I think they're trying to update or repeat an old hit -- Princess in Love series from 2009, which apparently went over pretty well because lolitas liked that it had so many random bows all over the place. Someone went so far as to commission a F+F replica of it.

>> No.7930897

This would be so much prettier if it didn't have bows up the wazoo.

>> No.7930900

>>7930897

The bows are all removeable, so you could leave them all off, wear one or two at a time, or migrate them all to wherever you want.

Now that I think about it, that might have been part of the charm, too, you get a flock of bows that you can pick and choose from, or wear all at once like a bow harem.

By the way, the updated version in OP's post is already sold out in pink.

I'm thinking of ordering my first dress, and I'm not sure which size I should get. If my measurements are 89/74, should I get this in M (80-90/68-78) or L (88-98/78-88). It has shirring in the back. http://qutieland.com/product.php?id=1701

I think it's the silhouette? Baby usually keeps the poof minimal and the length slightly longer to keep the shape balanced. AP always looks so top-heavy and the fact that they always go for heavy fabrics (Baby usually uses tulle or chiffon or lace for their layering) makes it look so bulky and heavy.

There isn't a hair thread so I thought I'd ask here.
My hair is just barely not shoulder-length, I'm going to a picnic meet soon and I don't know what to do with it. I'm going to buy a plain headbow because my whole coord is really casual and last minute.
I don't know what I should do with my hair though, any suggestions. Whenever I try to curl it with a curling iron, the curls die despite hairspray.

>> No.7930977

>>7930964
The dress itself will fit both a cupcake shape and an A-line petticoat - it's gathered at the waist, so it has the skirt volume to support a cupcake shape petticoat. It looks like the models are wearing either A-line petticoats or cupcake petticoats slightly lower on the waist, hence the confusion upthread.
In terms of budget and what to get, if you don't want to break the bank victoriangirldress petticoats are still cheaper than Classical Puppets and Malco Modes, unless you can find a good deal second hand. They are soft A-line petticoats, get the XL or XXL size (Ignore the age ranges/waist size, either of them will stretch to something like 40" hip without problems as long as the buttonhole elastic is removed, the waist size is just a guideline and the major difference between them is length)

Is it typical for closet child to have a huge discrepancy between the actual shipping costs and the costs they charged you?
I just got a letter from the customs office and they included a picture of the package and even a bill from closet child and both say that shipping was 3700 yen. I paid 5400 yen, though, and even though I can understand that they round the price up, I think it's a pretty big markup..? Compared to GLB? Yes, it's better, although your mileage may vary.

GLB pattern is done by the brands, sometimes they're great and awesomely detailed (eg IW patterns), some of it is somewhat hotglue-ishly random (eg the accessories), and once BTSSB had a print skirt pattern that of course, was just a basic rectangle skirt (lol).

Nothing in ONS was ever as detailed as any pattern IW was involved in, but they do some decent dresses, jsks, (simple) blouses, hair accessories, coats, cutsews, chiffon dresses, fur coats with pom pom buttons, purses, some kind of bunny soft toy purse, and so on.

The instructions (other than being in Japanese) can be a bit thin, there wasn't a lot of extra info on chiffon or fur even though those are tricky fabric. Their petticoats are all hard tulle except for the chiffon petticoat which is more like an underskirt, not a petti. Every single blouse has been really basic, at least whichever volume you pick up will be easy to sew. There are instructions are the back for adding width or length to the dresses, no instructions on full bust adjustment, though.

If you can read Japanese there's a lot of info on where to buy certain things, and some of the accessories can be bought as kits from certain shops, the fabric is also sourced, the first few books had some really nice border prints and I'm hoping the sixth book does too (the fifth had rather meh fabric, imho). And if you actually lived in Japan I think they did a giveaway of the sample clothes from the book in book 5 or something.

One way that works but takes time is switching all your hangers so they are backwards, and then setting a reasonable time limit (six months or something depending on how frequently you wear Lolita). When you wear something, hang it back up normally, and at the end if the time, sell the unworn "backwards" ones. Obviously use your best judgement here since you may have seasonal dresses, but it can be a good starting point.

I'm clearing out a large chunk of my wardrobe now because I'm moving into a house and need money for furniture and other house-related things. I basically narrowed it down to these factors:
- How well something fits or looks on me. If I'm the slightest bit unhappy with it, it goes.
- How well and how many coordinates can I put together with it? If I still need to buy pieces to put together a halfway decent coord, it goes.
- How readily available is the item? If it's something I like but can part with, and eventually rebuy again further down the road the the same cost, it goes as well.
- From there, favorites. What don't I want to part with? The rest goes.

Basically I cut down 30 main pieces to about 7. I kept the things that were really special, difficult to come by, and things that I don't have the heart to part with.

How do you guys get over the jealousy of other lolitas in your comm?

My local community is rather large but there's the "it" crowd. They have huge wardrobes and are some of the best dressed lolitas. I befriended one of them and I was so excited to open the door to be a part of their group but now that I have a better idea of who they are and what pieces they actually own, I can't help but think awful thoughts or hope they end up on btb... Really fucking immature, I know.

The girls are fun, sweet, buy a ton of dresses and get gifts from their friends and loved ones. There's nothing wrong with them, and I want to keep being a part of the group, but I feel like one day my jealousy is going to snap and I'm going to write terrible secrets or something. I can barely afford ONE lolita a month, yet they're buying 4-5 main pieces or talking about their latest purchases and sharing coordinate ideas all the time.

Ugh sorry for turning this into a mini blog rant. I'm excited but so bitter at the same time.

You're being really near-sighted and immature, anon.
Replica-fag wasn't talking about making general nun-themed dresses, she was talking about making exact duplicates of the ones from Ista Mori (which I doubt she could accomplish anyway, considering the construction and materials of Nameless Poem are fantastic). For an indie brand, you only have to deflect a small amount of their business in order to harm them...and Ista Mori is an all around awesome brand that is really great to their customers and they're the ones who deserve the money from their hard work, not some no-name anon who is too lazy to come up with their own designs. If replica-fag thinks her sewing skills are anywhere near the calibur of Ista Mori's pieces, she'd do much more business by coming up with her own pieces instead of riding another brand's coat-tails.

>> No.7934192

>>7934144
I just find it a little ridiculous that you're trying to justify the idea of someone blatantly and intentionally ripping off a design from a small indie brand.

It's not so much about the concept/theme of the dress being off-limits to everyone else. It's not so much about stealing business. It's not about the legalities of it.

It's simply about purposefully replicating* someone else's popular design to make money off it. (*that is the word >>7934077 used, note they didn't say anything along the lines of 'taking inspiration from' or simply 'doing xyz theme,' which may be more acceptable).

Tapdancing Manas that's freaking adorable, and I love seeing that on a winter themed dress.

I'd probably get the sax but I'm curious about the accessories. IMO the accessories would make or break this series for me, I'd want a matching caplet and a head accessory choice that's not that weird headbow...

I'm a bit disappointed with the navy and pink, those colors look tacky with this print.

Remember to get tracking so it'll at least be harder for your buyers to do a claim in week 4 when they start to get antsy. If you can snap a pic of the receipt or address, that's prudent as well, to show you didn't write the wrong address or something.

I'd suggest what >>7936504 said. I always assume that included shipping is the lowest price/slowest speed. So give them the option and say that you'll send with tracking, it'll take five weeks, but if they pay you can send it by a better method. If you feel like a dick for that, split the difference and maybe only charge them 20-30 dollars for the more expensive shipping.

Yes. As someone who makes a lot of high-quality handmade pieces, I still feel the most confident when wearing at least one larger piece of brand, for example an AatP blouse with a handmade JSK. Especially for larger meetups, I feel like it should be at least 50/50 brand/handmade. I guess offbrand and Taobao fit in the same category as handmade for me. My wardrobe itself is about 60% brand and 40% handmade/offbrand.

Yes. I don't know if it's because I've become a brandwhore or what, but the more brand I'm wearing the better I feel like my coordinate is. I don't really count jewelry, but definitely blouse, JSK/skirt, socks, hair accessories, and bag. I don't count shoes, either, because all my shoes are from Bodyline (lol) but if you have a mix then I would count your shoes as well.

So to clarify, I try to balance the overall outfit. So if I wear a handmade JSK, then my blouse, socks, and hair accessories will all be brand. Nope. I coordinate by picking out a main piece, then picking out a blouse/bolero, shoes and bag combo that complements it, and then add the accessories, jewellery, legwear and other finishing touches. Stipulating that x number of items needs to have a certain label that (if you're counting socks and blouses, especially) isn't even visible, is unneccessarily limiting. Unless, of course, the challenge is the reason why you want to limit yourself.

That said, most of my coords do end up with a lot of brand pieces, but I think that's because the brands make very awesome pieces that offbrand or even indie brands haven't been able to match. Selecting a brand item because it's beautiful is not the same thing as selecting an item because it's brand, though.
