Yes. they're usually a good time if you can find a group of people your own age that are fairly stable. The young ones can get a bit rowdy, but aren't too bad. The troublesome ones are easy to spot, so then you just avoid talking to them.

I'v been on one, but not to others. I'm from a community where there is a serious lacking in decent cosplayers. They sort of take what they can get. And because of a fairly young community, not a lot of questions on the in character asking panels turn out good. It seems to work best if you've got a group up there that can banter like real friends, and not people thrown together in front of a room. Even if a shitty question gets asked, the people up front should be able to turn it around and make everyone laugh.

Sort of a mix of the two? I like a sort of blocking to be visible, but some blending to be done at the start of different blocks. Sort of, influenced by fanart on that though.

How much shit would I get for cosplaying Rose with a nude or neutral lip? I know black/dark lipstick is popular for her because of the way her sprite is drawn, but I've actually never been a fan of that.

I was in the LA community in the stronger days of the fandom, the meets were super fun and it was pretty easy to find people that weren't creepy or annoying. The only bad part were the awkward kissing circles...

Lately I've been wanting to shoot with some Homestuck cosplays. Sadly, I live in the atlanta area which is home to atlstuck. The problem I have is trying to figure out which people to go after and contact to shoot with. It is really hard trying to keep up with the mentality and immaturity that surrounds anyone associated with the group. I don't want to waste my time on someone who isn't going to put their effort into making great photos.

I saw a girl with a Zodiac symbol tattoo, associated it with Homestuck almost immediately, and then had to remind myself those symbols aren't Hussie's creation. I can confirm this firsthand. I used to sell wallets with Homestuck-coded-zodiac symbols on them like three years ago and his girlfriend got all up on me about it and sent me an email telling me to stop. Granted, back then they weren't very good so I didn't think it was that big a deal. I was doing commissions for people with the character symbols on them at the same time and I think it was that that she/they had a problem with more than anything.

I still sold zodiac wallets afterwards and stopped a short while ago, but I haven't gotten any more cease and desists since. I think its just the character symbols they have the most problems with. The girl selling the cat-ear-hats with the zodiac symbols on them at cons near me apparently hasn't had any problems either.

Good, but I'd suggest making them more angled and three-dimensional next time. The risk is that they'll look cartoonish but I personally prefer it when you can see the Z-angle from more than one side. Of course, this also has to dow with how you attach them.

thanks! they are round but it may just be my shitty picture, and your right i did want them to be more angled... oh well. i was really stupid when i first had my eridan wig i cut tiny holes in the place the horns will be, and shoved the horns through. (they were attatched with a head band.)
im planning to just do it the same way since it looked fine and the wig was good. (though i dont attatch horns like that any more, dont worry) normally i attach horns usuing any method that doesnt show the head band. it really depends on the horns.

This. I had to remold and find different methods for getting them curved that I was happy with. In the end I usually used a sort of cardstock and bent it in an arc and let them dry against that so it gave them a bit of a curved inside.

I'd love to see them host one if I knew they wouldn't pander to representation instead of quality. They'll never do anything like that in an official capacity because most of this fandoms good cosplayers are white or white passing, and social justice sallies would throw a fit over it. There's enough grandstanding over the art in the calendars as is, and a cosplay contest would be so much worse. Especially since they'd probably leave it up to a vote, which would just make it based on follower count and popularity instead of talent.

Questions like these have come up before, and people in MSPAG have always had good things to say about her IRL! Going secondhand off of people's experiences with her at conventions, the reason she's so loved in these threads is because she's really friendly and personable offline, too. It sounds like she's never too busy to spare a few seconds to chat with someone who runs into her at a con, no matter how beginner-tier they may be.

In my own experience, I once left a comment on one of her cosplays, and she took the time to respond through a PM and compliment a cosplay of mine too!, even though I was hard n00b. She has kind of an inspiring positivity around her.

I don't think it's likely to happen, to be honest, at least without a lot of pushback. Real human beings cosplaying trolls and humans from Homestuck are just doing something fun. But when the characters inside Homestuck cosplay other races, that's just cultural appropiation. And cosplaying a character doing that is basically the same as doing it yourself. You wouldn't get away with blackface any more than you would with cosplaying a character that was themselves doing blackface, basically. And it's morally the same.

So you're making the claim:
make-up -> blackface -> comedy acts -> stereotypes ->black people are clownish and helpless. Therefore: black make up = helpless clownish black people racism.

I'm speechless. Do people actually follow this logic? This logic is beyond stupidity. Not everything to do with black people can be deduced to racism. In a legal sense, the reason why something is done makes a lot of difference. In this case, the reason why you put on black make-up is very important. When a dark-skinned person acts out a stereotypical role, for example doing blackskin, is it racism? Yeah, there we have it. That IS still racism, even if it's a black person acting like a stereotypical black person. It's not the make-up, it's how you ACT with the make-up on that makes it racism. If I want to look like a black person for whatever reason, I'm legally allowed to do that and no one can tell me I'm being racist until I act out a stereotypical role.

And the idea isn't that HS cosplay is racist, or directly like blackface at all. It's that it's problematic, in the setting, for one character of one race to dress up as a fetishized, idealized, version of another race.

People do problamatic things in fiction all the time. In HS itself, Mindfang and Cronos commit rape, for example. That means that cosplaying those characters is problamatic, for one, since it might trigger survivors. It doesn't mean dressing up as Mindfang is literally commiting magical mind control rape on anyone that sees your costume. It means you're dressed as a character, and celebrating a character that has done things like the ones that people you might encouter have actually experienced for real. And the actual feelings of real people matter. They matter more than your unimformed opionions, even.

Cultural appropiation is harmful in a different way. Again, It's not my job to educate you about this stuff. It's something happening in the world around you and your ignorance of it is your fault. That part that's relevant here is that this thing happening in HS, with generally positively presented characters doing this problamatic thing, is maybe an issue. Like, seeing people at a con in a Jade/trollsona cosume can create the same feelings as, say, a member of the First Peoples having a sports team's mascot dancing around in a grotesque mockery of their sacred rituals.

Am I the only one bothered by 'nudestuck'? It's not so much the naked bodies that bother me as much as the whole "if I'm wearing a wig while taking nudes, it counts as cosplay!!!" shebang.
