I also always hang my dresses by color. This is a slightly non updated picture tho since the colored onece (the once that are not white/ivory/beige and black) have moved to a 50cm closet next to this.

I also have 6 little dipper underskirts in different colors on the way and 7 infanta under-dresses in different colors on the way. Thank you! It's actually a "bad" habit I have. When it comes to underskirts and under-dresses it's so I always would have something in the same color as the dresses, especally if the thing it self is cheepp. I usually like a print in more then 1 color as well so I often end up getting two if it's a reserve and if I stumble upon a dress I have and like in another colorway It happens that I sometimes buy it.

I tried to do my dresses and skirts by colour, but there were too many to hang on a single bar. So I got cascading hangers. Still too many for a single bar (because of the weight, not the volume). So I put in a second bar for skirts and items with elastic straps/that need clip hangers to hang up (they're narrower). But because the number is uneven, the two bars are now sorted by colour by themselves, which results in a weird, staggering such that they don't ALL line up any more.

Moving soon and can't wait to get a bigger closet or a standing wardrobe with more space and sturdier bars.

Take another look at >>7870706, the dresses are hung in the innermost corner of the room, and the photo itself is lit by artificial lighting. It's possible that sunlight doesn't reach that corner at all.

I keep BJDs in my room in the open, and before I even got into lolita I tinted all my bedroom windows to minimise their yellowing. At this rate it's fine to keep dresses hung up in my room, the wardrobe (which is walk-in and has one untinted window) probably gets more sunlight than my room.

I can't really speak for every other girl who hangs dresses up, though. There's probably a few who didn't think of the sun fading thing.

Here's some more cute ideas based around the shadowbox concept - could work for bows too!

These would work nicely sans doors in a closet, but I also like the idea of displaying them out in the open like a piece of art. If you're going to do this with fabric bows or colored plastic, though, you may want to invest in UV glass or acrylic over them. Craft store frame shops like Michaels can just sell you pieces of it (and some will assemble, too, depending on the kind of box you have).

Some of the glazing can seem expensive depending on the type (non-glare, non-static, etc) but it's worth it, particularly if you have brand!!

I'll find some really elegant frames for cheap at the flea market, get the home depot guys to cut me some thin board, drill and nail/screw the shelf to the frame, and paint it in an attractive color of my choice.
