Lolita confession thread.

Hard mode: no comm drama

>> No.7905283

I don't take care of my dresses at all. I throw them on the floor with all my other clothes, treat them roughly and throw them around, smoke while wearing them, drop ash on them, eat messy food while wearing them.

It's not like I'm ever going to sell them to anyone else, so I guess it's not an issue really. But I like to imagine people getting butthurt about me treating some of my more rare/ sought after prints like shit. Gives me a bit of a thrill

I want to slap everyone who says they're afraid to clean their precious burando. Read the damn care label. It's super easy to find a guide to Japanese garment care symbols on the internet. If it's washable, put it in the wash on gentle cycle in it's own garment bag. If it's dry clean only, take it to the cleaners or get a home dry clean kit and do it yourself (also super easy). There's no excuse to have gross, smelly, dirty clothes, especially when you're trying to sell them to others in the community.

>> No.7905428

>>7905346
Me neither, but I think the clothes probably have to smell really bad before anyone says anything cause lolis tend to sidestep any sales comm drama. You know how everytime there's a scammer alert a bunch of people pop up to say "LOL yeah she scammmed me too, but I didn't do anything about it or say anything to anyone"? I'm pretty sure the same thing would happen with smells, but no one has the guts to bring it up.

I won't ever give a shit about what you do with your dresses UNLESS you try to sell them.

Which brings me to my rant, ahem:
>person buys very sought-after print secondhand for inflated price
>over the course of ownership garment gets worn out, faded, stained, damaged, missing pieces, etc.
>person goes to resell the item
>wants to list the item as how they paid for it secondhand
>might account for damages but they still list it as above retail price
>wonders why their shit won't sell
>someone makes an adjusted offer within reason
>Oh I'm not getting what I want for it so I'll keep it

I used to keep my wigs just in a box, but then I got a wig standso they're on that now, I got a wide tooth comb recently too, I think my problem was using the wrong brush. Might keep them in boxes again so they dont get dusty or sunbleached from being on a shelf near a window. I worry about over brushing them though, the curls will go flat and I dont know how to put them back in again.

>> No.7906041

>>7906023
I generally would recommend to not use a brush at all on wigs unless they're really bad, and you're using a specific wig brush. I also have a wig comb, its a wide tooth metal comb with a wooden handle (completely identical to some dog grooming combs btw) and it seriously just sails right through tangles. Keeping them on stands is good, but if they still get tangly try gently scooping the ends into a wig net and either tying it with a bit of ribbon or something just tightly enough to keep it in place, or pinning it to the base of the stand or the wig's structure itself. You can also try using a wig detangler/conditioner, the cheap method is some laundry softener diluted with water and put in a cheap plastic spray bottle, or buy some specially made. I believe you can also use silicone based smoothing products for human hair (thats coming from some friends who use it in their extensions). No oil in it to mess up the nylon fibers.

I swear to god, I literally just throw it on a shelf with a bunch of other crap carelessly and brush it out when I need it. It's not a fancy curly one though, it just has natural looking waves. I guess I just picked a good wig from Taobao.

For the longest time I didn't even have a wig brush, I just used a normal brush that I had dedicated to that purpose. I just recently picked up a wig brush. Now I just got a fancier wig and I know I won't be able to treat it like that.

>> No.7906327

>>7906023
If the wig is getting frizzy from handling, you're probably pulling and stretching the fibres. Be more gentle. If you encounter a knot, work it out with your fingers or reduce it to as few strands as you can, then snip it out. If you keep tugging, it'll kill the curls with stretching.

Next, there are heaps of wig tutorials for refreshing a style. It's not too hard. With curls, you just take a section, comb it smooth, wrap it around your fingers like you're doing a pin curl, and drop it.

I always have the suspicion that Voldie is actually posting this about herself.

>> No.7907184

I have a weeb acquaintance who's a very sweet girl but is very much still in her weeb phase, she's not really into lolita but she's fixated on a wa-lolita dress from Bodyline. I've tried to guide her towards decent quality stuff but she's shown no interest. I have an old one at home from my own weeb phase 3 years ago and I'm tempted to give it to her, on one hand she'd really like it and at least she can go through her weeb phase without burning cash on stupid shit, on the other hand I feel guilty for pawning off my weeaboo crap on her.

I am German and I don't really give a fuck about the series, and I admit I enjoy military uniforms and military styled Lolita outfits. But if you get mad because someone is offended by this or thinks your taste in clothes is questionable, you're an idiot. I don't want to post any pics that might be recognized because I'm paranoid. This is a spot I stitched up the lining of a dress with lumpy bodice seams because the seams had been ironed open crooked all the way down. The puckering is the only thing that could give it away and that happened because the fabric is thin.
I don't mention things that don't change the garment appearance, because people expect drastic markdowns for laying a hand on holy brand, even fixing fuck ups the garment came with.

Seriously. There are still people alive who were in concentration camps. Fourteen year olds seem to have this idea that 60 years is somehow ancient news, but they fail to understand that most people alive who are Jewish were and still are directly impacted by the Holocaust. Even if you have the gall to say that Holocaust survivors are dying off, that's neglecting all the children that were affected by growing up with Holocaust survivor parents. It's insanely dumb.
That being said, shunning everything ever made by Meta because they decided to go full-nazi or looking down on others who collect Meta due to that fact is also really stupid.

The only thing you need to do is strive to improve self for yourself. Not to be better than them but to bring the same to the friendship table. I became like a lolita computer, just processing and gathering as much information, advice and help I could get and within weeks I saw my own improvement. This kind of shit is one reason I'm hesitant to join a comm and make any new lolita friends. I'm bisexual, in a long term relationship with a man when I'm more attracted to women, and love cute, feminine girls, so the temptation would be through the roof. The boyfriend's told me I could see girls on the side if I wanted, but his tone and the look on his face made it clear he'd prefer I didn't, so I won't do that to him.

One of my lolita friends has been in so many fights with her fiance over the years about being in an open relationship (he didn't want it, but she has NEEDS), acted like a jealous psycho every time a girl did show interest in him, etc. They've finally mellowed out, I think, after almost a decade of this shit, which is good for them, I guess, but it totally does not seem worth it to me, no matter how cute lolitas are.

The thing I hate about pan is that it is mainly used as a way that ends up discriminating against trans people. Trans people don't want to be some super spechul extra group, they just want to be acknowledged for the gender they feel is right. Tumblr really is extremely hurtful when they use cis and trans as if they are meant to be different for any other reason than explaining someones sex, not gender.

Sure there are people who would rather have someone who is their born gender, and there are also people who don't know if they want someone trans, but that's not bad. And it's something to be discussed personally, not shouted out like a badge of honor.

The worst part of 'pansexual' as a tumblr term is that these idiots who claim it, say they 'don't see' gender or sex or whatever. No, that's not how attraction works, no matter how spechul and PC or w/e you want to be, attraction is based on reactions to physical things. You might not care what gender or sex they are, but you certainly see it as something you like physically.

I don't personally wear the undergarments at all. They're reserved for people who stick closely with the tenants of the faith as a a symbol of their personal religious struggle and strive to remain pure.

I attend church, but I'm not hardcore about the tenants, I have sex with my fiance, I'm openly bisexual, and I drink way too much tea.

I know it's a dying practice, the only people who wear them in my church are the bishop and some of the older members. I would assume that a more hardcore mormon loli would wear it under their dresses, it's kinda like thin bloomers and and a chemise/undershirt. It used to be a jumper, but it evolved into separates in the 70's. My fiance says that if you're doing it right, you should have several sets, and you should only take them off for showering, sleeping depending on the weather, and having sexual relations.

Where are you getting this from? No, I'm not, but as exemplified by the anon I quoted, the fact that there are people who have been and still interact with us in daily life does have an effect, not to mention that we're not past the age where people like to bring up Nazis whenever they hear that you're German. I'm not claiming PTSD or being ~triggered~ by Nazi insignia, I just think it's false to say that it has no relevance for modern German society. And just to be clear, I also don't claim that my situation is comparable to hers.

For that matter, USSR history seems to be something that's a lot less talked about and kind of open for all kinds of creative interpretations, which is obviously shit, but that's a whole other can of worms.

it's different for a lot of people
Personally I would never ever cheat nor have had the urge to, but I am so afraid of slipping up and getting a crush on someone because I would feel like a traitor and it always feels like just one step towards cheating to me, even though I've been in two relationships in my life (this being the second one) and am not very sexually active.
Even finding others attractive makes me feel like a dirty cheater unless they're pictures on the internet or something, and that inadvertently makes me feel like I want to do it, even though I never would, if that makes sense.

If you know that feeling when you are looking down from the edge of a cliff and something in your head is pulling you towards it and saying "jump! jump!", it is kind of like that.

I feel you there. A big part of the reason I love lolita is because it's so feminine. I'm constantly surrounded my men in the workplace and desperately need a break from that. When I went to my first meetup years ago I was looking forward to being surrounded by other frilly girls, talking about girly things and really just being shamelessly girly with other women. And I don't mean just talking about knitting and kewt boiz and periods or whatever, but... well, it's hard to explain. I was looking forward to being part of a frilly "Girls Only" club and whether people talked about baking or motorcycles didn't matter to me.

But then there was this man there. Well over six feet tall, with big man hands and a big man face and big man shoulders squeezed into one of Bodyline's bigger mistakes, accompanied by the matching helicopter headbow perched upside-down on top of a ratty looking wig. His lace-topped white socks reached about halfway to his calves and since the dress was way too short for him his gross knobbly knees where constantly in everyone's face. He hadn't shaved his legs properly.
We talked about all sorts of things and he kind of awkwardly followed along. Whenever a more woman-specific subject came up he'd go "eheheheh well I wouldn't know about that..." and eventually started whining at people to change the subject to something he could understand.
Years later he is still dressing exactly the same and is always complaining on the comm's Facebook that he couldn't possibly improve because those stupid meaniehead brands don't make anything to fit him. It's taking every bit of self control I have to not comment telling him that this fashion and community obviously isn't for him and maybe he should look elsewhere.

I've heard legends about nice, decent, pleasant brolitas in foreign comms. There might be a handful of good ones somewhere. But in general? Men, get the fuck out.

Also all for open relationships as long as you actually give two shits about who you sleep with. I hate the idea of one night stands or using people for sex. If my boyfriend cheats on me it better be with someone hot and not just on a whim. Why the fuck is serial monogamy, dumping someone so you can fuck the next, guilt-free, throwing away your entire relationship ok rather than sticking with the people you love and accepting the drama that might arise from that. I'm not so arrogant to think my boyfriend would only ever find me attractive and the only reason I'd have to be upset if he cheated would be because of my own possessiveness/jealousy/insecurity.

I've had a hard time distancing myself from 'ghetto stereotypes'. My hair is real but people constantly asking to touch it and saying it's a wig or weave pisses me off because such things make my skin crawl.

It's not just that though; the though of applying plastic fakery to yourself to wear a fashion doesn't sit right with me. I like nail art for the technical skill and have crappy short ones but can't bring myself to wear fake nails/lashes. I only wear foundation to cover my horrible acne scars.

But hell no to wigs. If I have a bad hair day, I'll put it up or just wear a hood all day.. A full bonnet might also be good for those lacking volume up top. I don't like the notion that wigless lolis aren't trying hard enough. The girls posted in the ita threads would often look nicer if they simply let their hair out/down.

Thanks for enlightening me. I prefer the term bisexual as all the 'between' stuff is just variations on/a rejection of/combination of the 'standard' male/female crap anyway.

I feel like a failure with this LGBT shit. I don't feel part of a movement or anything...

I'm with you on not liking wigs. I feel like just throwing on a wig is less respectable since you don't make as much effort as styling your natural hair. Sure, anybody can throw on a long wig and call it a day, but I think that the dedication it takes for me to grow my hair, treat it right so it's not damaged, dye it, and curl it overnight in rollers before arranging it into a hairdo for half an hour is more worthy of respect than simply wearing a wig. I work super hard on my hair, and it does look great and people mistake it for a wig all the time, and it makes me feel kind of iffy.

well good for you that you are blessed with beautiful hair with lots of volume. My hair is baby fine and even with styling it is never going to look suitable with this fashion.

I'm not blessed with exceptionally beautiful hair. I spend lots of time, money and effort on making it that way. My hair is average quality naturally. I may have worded myself poorly, I didn't mean that you should never wear wigs, my point was that I dislike when people think there's more effort and value in wearing wigs than donning natural hair.

Same here, wigs are easier to deal with, and end up looking better for me. I really love it when girls with awesome natural hair can work it into a coordinate, but for me (and many others), wigs are better.

I cut out the shirring on one of my dresses so it would fit my cow tits.

I wish I could curate a group of friends this way, fashion choices and gender aside. I honestly wouldn't mind my own friendship being curated this way either.

Have you tried dance shops? Those tend to have Malco Mode petticoats. 582 is the fluffy one, 580 is the lacy one (the numbers are on the inside tags). I brought one of my dresses with me into a dance shop to try on the 580. Purchased it immediately.

I never understood why it's acceptable for people to touch someone's hair. I don't care if they ask, I just find it incredibly creep-tastic.

I agree that people who take the time to style their hair every time shouldn't be looked down on for using their natural hair. At the same time, I think natural hair gets a bad rap just because so many newbies or itas don't know how to style their hair or don't care, and it just looks messy or frizzy instead of suitable for the fashion.

I wear wigs just because lolita isn't a full time thing for me, and my out-of-fashion look is drastically different (I'm guilty of an edgy hair cut, sue me, I love my stupid asymmetrical hair). I don't have an interest in maintaining the kind of hair that's acceptable in lolita, so it's wigs for me, but I think it's impressive when girls put that extra effort into successfully (key word) completing the look with their own hair.

I hate seeing unflattering cuts on cute girls. It's as though most of the newer girls can't or don't know how to dress for their body type (some old ones aren't great either, but I digress).
