Got any advice, ideas or in general just want to discuss being tall when you're interested in japanese fashion

And by tall I mean 5"7 and up

>> No.7889021

Anyone know the best place to get cute gyaru type skirts that actually cover my ass?

>> No.7889364

Lolita with a height of around 5"7'-5"9'.

Innocent World is going to be your best friend if you want to wear longer versions of their JSKs which will go below your knees. Several brands such as Meta and BTSSB will have longer versions of prints in skirts or JSKs from time to time. Chantilly has OTKs that really OTKs if you want to buy from them.

Heads up if you still want to wear the regular JSKs around 90-95cm, they are going to be above your knee.

>> No.7889389

Tall lolita checking in at 5'9" (175cm). I am tall in my torso not in my legs, so I have to find JSKs with adjustable straps. I find that regular skirt lengths aren't an issue for me. Tights are always your friend over socks or OTKs, and I avoid super poofy pettis. I feel like these days most people don't really care if a skirt is slightly above your knee as long as you coord well and have the right aesthetic and you don't look skanky.

>> No.7889406

underskirts are fine too but just make sure they don't look like you're wearing one skirt on top of another. anywhere from 2-3 inches of additional ruffles is good. Don't go with anything above 3 because it just looks retarded

>> No.7889412

>>7889389
Adjustable straps are a life saver. I've got two Lief dresses and they came with buttons in more than one position down the strap which was awesome, but with my IW and AP jsks I had to sew the lower placed buttons myself.

>> No.7889895

>>7889412
I'm just going to make a little strap with a button on one side and a hole on the other, so I can change them between dresses.

>> No.7890154

5' 9" Lolita checking in as well, AatP is good for JSKs probably 60-70% of the time, skirts maybe 50%. Their OTK socks are good, too, if you're pretty skinny. LIEF and Haenuli also have a good length on most of their releases. IW and AatP for blouses.

I have long legs and a normal/average torso, so for me skirt length is the biggest issue. I know people hate on the underskirt trend, but I'm enjoying it.

>> No.7890213

IW blouses are terrible for long arms. Try AatP or Juliette et Justine

Advice from a 6' lolita, you're going to look like a joke, so at least try and look like a good joke.
Wear tights and bloomers if you choose not to care about your mid-thigh hitting dress so your ass doesnt show when you bend over, or opt to buy long dresses or underskirts (they're never going to match unless you have one in every color or only buy dresses that would match an ivory one) Blouse sleeves are a joke, and shoes are probably only purchasable from offbrand places unless you happen to have smaller proportioned feet. I also hope youre in the underweight-average BMI department otherwise your options are so very severely limited. Good luck.

>> No.7890269

I'm 5'7 with a 33 or 34 inch inseam, and long monkey arms, and I've found that I can only really wear classic or gothic to even dream of covering my ass. Can't even fuck with long-sleeved blouses.

>> No.7890360

>>7890217
One of the most famous lolitas is your length, you'll be fine.

>> No.7890365

5'8 lolita here most of my tips have already been said but Moitie also occasionally releases long length ops, jsks and skirts. Long sleeve blouses are often too short in arm length for me so I mainly own indie brand/custom blouses. Short sleeve brand blouses are fine. Cutsews are often short in torso and sleeve length for me. Old school can be a blessing or a curse due to dress/sleeve length.

I'd love to hear some suggestions for good loliable shoe brands that fit a us 10 and higher if anyone has any.
So far the ones I wear are Bodyline (limited options and shoe design depending on style of lolita), Melissa/ Vivienne Westwood x Melissa, Bordello, Funtasma, (Other sub brands of Pleaser also have lolita appropriate shoes) and also some taobao brands.

You aren't if you can get stuff custom made (e.g. iiralina, who is 6' 1" & sews her own)
I wouldn't even bother buying long sleeve blouses unless they're custom, ditto "normal" length dresses. Figure out if you have a long torso or longer legs, the latter are easier to deal with by buying long dresses, the former often means dress bodices look ridiculous

>> No.7890600

This is really disheartening. I'm 5'7" and really looking into getting into lolita, but there are only a handful of dresses that I love enough to drop that much cash on, and they all have measurements that would hit me a few inches above the knee. Fuck, man.

>> No.7890689

>5'7"
>all in the torso
>AP fangirl

Unaltered AP hits me around mid-thigh. I do the usual stuff:
>JSKs, skirts and salopettes from long releases only
>stick to long releases (like Chess Chocolate JSK was much longer than average)
>alter straps (into halter style by changing the angle where they attach and adding buttons, or with strap extenders, just a piece of strap with a button hole/loop on one side, and a matching button on the other, easier to DIY to match the color/width you need)
>remove straps completely and replace them with super long ones
>underskirts
(AP sometimes has a built in petti layer and it makes a gap between the dress and your underskirt. If you feel daring enough and are not selling your brand, go ahead and seam rip the string that attaches the hidden pocket [or both if you don't have a zipper] to the built in petti, and if you have a back or side zipper, seam rip the underskirt away from it carefully up to the waist line, and then stitch it closed so it doesn't open any further. Now, tuck the built in peti layer INTO the underskirt. Only the top layer of the AP dress should be over the underskirt. No gap.)
>playing with leg lines
Learning when to wear what sock length. Sometimes, thigh high or tights are not the answer, and you have to break up the line of your legs a little. Sometimes you have to emphasize them by not wearing patterns or straps around the ankle, or wearing heels, which seems the exact opposite of what a tall person should do, but the overall effect is a more proportionate and elegant silhouette instead of tiny little baby body on top of tree trunks.

>> No.7890890

I'm 176cm tall - Emily Temple Cute, Leur Getter and Jane Marple fit me really well. The dresses are longer than most lolita and normalfag stuff (except skirts, skirts can be quite short), ETC and JM socks are usually OTK on me, a lot of otome cuts are flattering on a tall slender build, and a lot of pieces fit me where my waist actually is. Leur Getter and JM also tend to be roomier than ETC in my experience.

My only complaint is with the busts - they all assume your tits are A-B cup, and start really high up so that can look a bit awkward at times depending on how the dress is made. Is this something a seamstress can alter? These dresses often have darts and I'm guessing releasing them might help?

>> No.7890892

>>7890890
I'm a shorty and I have to agree about Leur Getter. I avoid them because they'll absolutely be calf length on me. Anyone that loves chocolate prints but are too tall for AP check out their chocolate pieces. They're so elegant! They have a few dresses right now and coats.

>> No.7891123

5'8-9" anon here. I've altered a few JSK straps to fall lower on me, but it's a gamble because I'm 75% legs and with a bust. I've actually worn binding so things fall lower, but more or less I just suck it up. Tights help; the less skin showing between the OTKs and the dress, the less short it seems. It's odd but it's worked for me.

Hope you don't mind the selfpost, but sometimes meta makes unknown prints that are ridiculously long. I'm 5'8" and impulse-bid on this with little knowledge of what it was. The straps also tie up, so length is technically adjustable and it's fully shirred.
For blouse problems I get mine custom made by the floral notebook (photo blouse is meta, though). She's really thorough with measurements and even takes your neck/wrist circumference to make sure they fit well on you
I love her shop a lot.

Although I have a question, I recently got holy lantern in the mail. It's quite short on me (miniskirt length) but I don't know how an underskirt would look. The length doesn't seem to be too out of place, but would an underskirt look funny ?

It depends on the cut of the dress--sometimes it can be altered, sometimes not. If the darts aren't very deep then you won't have any luck because there isn't much material to add in. If the style of the dress lends itself to a partial or full back shirring, that's the best option--a seamstress can add a panel of shirring to the back in a complimentary fabric color.

What a tall lolita problem. All of it is sax or black. I'm currently trying to make Miracle Candy sax OP work. It just loops proportionally wrong on me. I find black looks better in general, maybe because it creates the illusion of less shadows = less illproportioned looking dress? I dont know. Dreamy dollhouse looks better than most on me.

Hi Tall lolis!
I am a 6 foot tall loli and I recently started a blog for info specifically for tall lolitas! I am still in the process of putting up more information but I have some info up on brands that offer longer lengths, plus sized shoes, and ways to make sure your dress is the right length.
I am trying to make it a tall loli resource so any feedback would be appreciated!

I've recently realized that this is the case with me, like I've tried a few other styles here and there and I've even tried full blown vintage so I can stick with petticoats which I do so love but no matter what, no one would ever say 'oh, you're so beautiful!' or anything like that. However when I wear lolita, people just will not stop telling me how cute I am and how I look like a doll (which is a comment I get regarding my face even outside of lolita) and this and that. On one hand I'm like fuck yeah but with that comes the realization that I'll never be seen as beautiful or sexy. Those are terms associated with adult women which I apparently don't look enough like one to count. lol

It really depends on the socks. Their plus sized and 'scrunchable' thigh high ones will definitely be OTK on someone around 6 feet. Their regular OTK will probably be OTK on someone 5'8-9 or shorter but at 6 feet they barely make it over my knee (and then fall down to UTK quickly).

I'm agreeing with everyone else who dislikes the shoes - I think brown would look better. Brown tea parties would be alright, but because its a more elegant print I think brown heeled Mary Janes would also look nice.

The blouse works well and it's a good way of picking out the colour of the lace details, and because there's quite a big gap between the collar and the start of the dress it looks like a necklace would look really good here! Because of the chiffon frill on the bottom of the dress I'd really like to see a chiffon blouse (especially with huge princess sleeves for an OTT look!) but this is personal preference
