I was 15. My mom got so mad. She made me pin closed the exposed sections of the hakama before she even let me out of the house. In my typical fifteen year old brattiness, I was super angry because in the context of the manga there is a very good reason why the character has so much skin exposed, and because she called the exposed loincloth a "thong."
But looking back it doesn't matter what the context was, I was still a 15 year old wearing next to nothing on my upper half and exposing my underwear.

I thought the skirt was long enough until the convention came around and I dropped my phone. I couldn't bend down without my bottom showing and my underwear tend to stick up my butt so I'm 98% convinced somebody succeeded at a creep shot. I'd constantly pull at my skirt while climbing the stairs or running, scared wandering eyes would take it too far. I made my friends tie my shoes (I had a second pair in case I get tired in heels) or help me with anything else that I dropped. If they weren't around I'd "squat-sit-down" and pull firmly at the fabric but I'm pretty sure that wasn't a success either. Oh and, yes I'm that clumsy to drop everything I hold.

I'd post a photo of the character, but it's fairly obscure and would make me really easy to find in a search. Basically, it was skin-tight bondage gear - a top that was basically a bikini attached to a spiked collar, bottoms with a couple belts that barely covered anything, and thigh high boots. I'm amazed I had the confidence to walk around in public like that, looking back, since my only other "slutty" costume was Sailor Venus and everything else has been pretty modest, and I don't think I could do it again.
