Been wanting to make The Soul Reaver Blade for years, only now have really had the time and patience to try and get it done. I've sketched out a hybrid costume borrowing styling from both Blood Omen games for my Kain costume to go along with it. I'm going material hunting tomorrow, but so far this is what I've got for my cardboard templates for wood-working for the Sword. Basic Shapes with the intent of refining it once I'm set with cutting, still trying to get the serpentine shape right for the blade, it's the hardest fucking part bar-none.

>> No.7881756

Pic related.
I got a gold zentai and I'm just going to use the fabric from the head for the wings. Still looking for a wig that's pretty close to the style already but if anything I'll just cut/style one I already have.
I don't expect anyone to recognize it but eh, it's Halloween.
No pic yet, so far it's just a headless zentai.

Boyfriend wants something to wear when not in Aku so we're making him a top hat with Aku's face.

The eyebrows need to be redone but everything else looks good size wise so we can start cutting foam.

Is this weird? I think the idea is cute and know we can nail the execution but there is something off about it... Idk. Anyone have ideas for what he should wear clothing wise while donning the hat? Or if we should scrap this altogether?

Hah, I totally love the idea. I think the issue is that it's too tall? Aku's beard goes past his shoulders and I see the brim as being the shoulders so the proportions just are a bit off. I would scale the beard down a touch and the shorten the whole thing so the end of the beard is just touching the brim of the hat.

These fucking drill curls are going to be the death of me.

> Tape keeps sticking to everything except what it's supposed to actually stick to
> Wires keep bending and curling in the exact opposite directions that I need them to
> Needing a longer length than I anticipated to complete the curl
> Not sure if I have enough wig hair to make the drills, too late for me to order more

This is the first time I've ever styled a wig, and I'm getting pretty scared that I'm going to fuck up majorly. I still have to make two more of these wire-tape curl bases, and after that there's actually gluing the hair onto them. Send help.

Hardened steel "memory wire" (for making a specific type of bracelet) will spring back into its spiral shape even if you mash it when it's on your wig by accident. Stuff's tough. It acts like a metal Slinky. However, you won't be able to bend it enough to make the size of the spiral decrease toward the bottom because of how tough it is.

Maybe use that for the majority of the drill and then make the end out of a rigid material instead of wire? I work with wire for jewelry making and I'll tell you right now, even with thicker gauge wire it's hard to keep a big, unsupported shape in place if it's going to get banged around on your head all day. I'd try and reinforce the drills you already made with something other than wire, like flexible plastic sheets?

Also, you can get some strength and support from the glue you use to apply the hair as well. Look for glue that dries hard. make a cone out of cardboard or something to be a temporary support to wrap the drill around while you're working on it.

Lower gauge = thicker wire
Coat hangers work very well for structural support. They're usually 12 or 14 gauge and are usually fast & cheap to come by. Jewelry wire like >>7889805 mentioned will not work as gravity is the main enemy of drills. Much like the aforementioned slinky, that type of wire will just stretch under the weight giving you the same problems you're having now.

This was my first time sewing burlap so I looked up as much tips as possible. It is a lot less linty after prewashing it...

Here's a pic from last night, made it all in one day but it's far from done. I definitely need to take in the arms a lot more, they turned out too long. There's also hand slits so I can easily slide my hands out if I needed to. I'd like to use something to really fill out the costume like stuffing or beanbag fillers, Oogie Boogie is so plump looking!

As for the face, I looked at all sorts of Oogie Boogie costume in making, I think I'd like to do the foam plus wires route, preferably on a hat of sorts. I'll get most of the wrinkles out when I'm done sewing the costume, steam it out and stuff.

There were two different types of burlap and then lots of colors of one of the types. I looked for the tightest looking burlap and thankfully it was in the right color called "taupe". The other burlap was the regular brown color and a lot looser, like you'd use in a sack race. All in all they were all called burlap, just the matter of seeing how tightly woven it is.

To me it looks the same before and after washing, but thankfully just less linty. The first pic I took also included the cotton lining underneath so it helps the color and fullness I think.

Using corrugated plastic as the band that fits around my head, hot glue, a cheap toque as cushion, and leftover hoop wire to be the structure for Oogie Boogie's mouth. I also finished sewing up the body with adjustments (shorter limbs, finishing the bottom). I got a couple of big t-shirts and stuffing in hopes to make a fat suit for underneath, but I'll see. Haven't even started on the shoe covers... Draping that burlap on the head took too much time. It's the smoothest I'll get.

Is this going to be the Zaku I you mentioned? I have the same issue with EVA regarding edges. Something I do is to use a tiny amount of gel super glue along the bond and pinch it together with my fingers and quickly rub away the excess before it cures. You can then sand that edge a bit smoother. On the backside of the bod just use a good amount of hot glue.

Heya, I'm currently working on a Karen cosplay as well, so I could share some shitty advice.
>If you can buy, BUY IT. This was a last ditch effort that I did in a rush.

>used a hot glue gun for most of this, no regrets
I used it to make/shape the base of the egg that I drew out on the paper here. What I did was cut out the shape, then hot glue the paper to nothing, wait for it to dry, and viola I got the base shape. Painted it white as the glue by itself was grey/yellowish.
I basically did the same thing for the yellow circle as well, but I painted it white, dried it, then yellow. As you can see it's not the perfect shade but I can't change it now and I was in a rush so I couldn't make another yellow cirlce.
I then hot glued the yellow circle to the white base, and there's the clip. I do not have any actual hair clips on the other side, as I am not sure how to put it on without damaging the piece. I hope this helps though.
The problems with this is that (you can see) if you are too fast in gluing in the paper you can create bubbles, and dust sticks to the paint/glue as it's drying.

You can't seriously think you look thin or even average weight in that photo though, right?
>wearing big sweaters makes you look 200 lbs
No. Here are two basic white girls wearing HUGE fucking sweaters and you can still tell they're in shape. The cardigans and shirts you're wearing in those pictures are of much thinner material and much more fitted, YET you still look fat as shit. You literally look like you have the body of a mother of three who's been on bedrest for three months thanks to complications from adult-onset diabetes.

The upper arms are the last things to go in women. A young girl who starts out thin (or in your case, average) can put on some weight in her midsection, lower half, breasts, etc. and still be able to take it off easily later in life with a little exercise and diet. However...when a girl's upper arms start to get fat, it's all fucking over. It's straight from there to those women who wear those weird muumuus that are almost like hospital gowns and eat entire DiGiorno's pizzas for dinner. Source: my mom is a practicing nutrionist who works with a hospital helping morbidly obese people (mostly women) lose weight before they die and this is something I've noticed in her patients when I come to her office.

I'm telling you this because all the practiced denial I see in your posts makes me really sad. You can still turn your life--at least, your physical health--around. It's not too late. The only thing you need is to WAKE THE FUCK UP and look yourself in the mirror and say, "I'm fat as shit, I'm fucking disgusting, I need to make a change." and then stick to it. Please please please, for the love of god, stop convincing yourself you look anything but dramatically overweight.

I'm using the super magnets brand, specifically the large disk size that comes in packs of 3. The face plate uses 3 sets. The rifle and shield setup uses a total of 12.

>>7916511
Id say no because only because if its on your hip you'd be very likely to knock the weapon off with your leg while you walk more-so if you plan on having the leg mounted missile launchers. Even alot of rare earth magnets wont be able to hold in that kind of situation. That is why for my MK-II I have everything attach to the shield since there it not in danger of getting in the way of anything and getting knocked off unintentionally.

For the sword I think a better idea would just be a loop of backpack strapping or velco on the hip to slide the blade through. For the rifle a better option might be having it attach by its side to the back of the 'butt-plate' of the skirt. This could be made to be more secure as well since you could have a small hooked section there for the rifle to slot into securely. M agents could work just fine for it imo if if secured in that location instead.

This is all just my 2 cents though. If you want to try doing a setup with the magnets on the hips its worth testing

>First cosplay that I've shared the WIP with, be as brutal as possible please!
Ok I got this on now. I got two general concerns here:

1. The jacket is too baggy/wide.
I am looking for ways to alter it so that it won't be too bad.

2. The shorts are not the same color as the jacket.
Not sure if you can see it, but the jacket has a more intense and desirable shade compared to the shorts. I am not experienced in cloth dying if that has to be done.

Other than that, I'm debating whether to attach the black stripes to the side of the jacket and shorts by interfacing or just sewing them on. I also need to make/purchase red socks, attachable hair clip to the egg I made, and I'm finished!
If anyone has any important wig information, please do tell me! This is my first cosplay that uses a wig.

>> No.7917647

Based on the way the wig's cut (i.e. since you've got longer side pieces), that'll be relatively easy to style. Look up some spiking tutorials for the side pieces-- you'll be able to achieve that with some cutting, hairspray, and a blowdryer. Similarly, you can piece the bangs with a little bit of hairspray or spiking glue. You could probably make the ahoge out of the fibers you cut off the sides to make the spiky bangs -- glue onto 2 pieces of black felt sandwiched around wire and sew/twist into the top of the wig.

Honestly, the bagginess isn't an issue because it's a hoodie, but the color of that hoodie is a little too saturated, whereas the character's hoodie is a dull mustard yellow. The stripes also read navy to me, especially with a blue tie. Given that it's onto sweatshirt fleece, I would either heat n bond or fabric paint the stripe (using masking tape and a ruler so it's perfect).

Got a tip for yall and hot glue

take clear packing tape, strong sticky stuff, tape the two edges you need to glue together on the top over where the seam of glue will be. Go ahead and stick your gun in the back and glue the edges together with the tape still there. remove the tape when done and VOILA! Clean hot glue seams,if you do it just right the foam edges will fuse over the glue and it hides the seam ever better. the most you will see is a smooth clean line of hot glue.

I love this trick and after one layer of plasti dip the seam is INVISIBLE!!!!!
I really love Both of y'alls work, I really wanna try a mech someday too.
Really hope this helps!!

Wood glue could work. You can sand that too if you have enough layers of it. It dries fairly quickly. I have only used it on worbla though so idk about foam but I'm guessing it works.

I recommend buying Kamui's painting tutorial book (and all the others really, they are wonderful) http://www.kamuicosplay.com/tutorials because even though it's for worbla, a bunch of things in there should be useful for foam as well.

Oh, and also there is a spray called plastidip you could try. I've seen great results with that.

Thanks for the advice. Now this is actually a pretty rushed project since my friend wanted to show up on a con on Saturday and if i had more time i would actually mesure the foam and get all the things such as sealant and proper paints. What i think im gonna do for this one is that ill do some basic weathering in form of cuts and scratches before painting it black with sone spray and then maybe some extra wea the ring so after this con ill probably redo it but properly this time.

Drawing references because I'm trying to work out how I want to do it, since there are many, many, many differing interpretations; and most often directly copying a superhero's comic book look results in lackluster end products.

That's -kinda- why Nolan's Batman has plated armor.

It's mostly based on the Deadpool Test Footage, with bits and bobs of stuff mixed in. The plate carrier is my own tweak; it annoyed me that DP would use outdated webbing/strapping/rigging for carrying ammo and equipment.

The black/shaded part?

That going to be either a silicone appliance, PAX, or alcohol-based makeup.

The edges of the mask will have a small diamond of vinyl sewn into them which will be attached to my sink using appliance glue to better form fit the thing to my face, and prevent the paint from being rubbed off.

I'm going to glue-stick my eyebrows so they don't show up, or have the appliance cover them; with white mesh contacts.

Also, drawing it out helps me understand how I'd like the panels constructed, which is useful for when I lay it up on the body and head forms, and lets me get a better idea of possible issues with the rigging binding up and being uncomfortable or looking odd.

What kind of glass/plastic did you use for the beam saber? How did you shape it?

Working on Saber's casual skirt for a con this weekend using Simplicity 1282 and it's pretty much perfect. It also slips on over my head so there's no need for a zipper and that's awesome because I don't have a zipper foot so they all look like shit sewn on. Anyway, pic related, though it's only the front.

Just finished this petti for a magical girl gijinka. Super pleased with the poof level!

Would you mind outlining your process? Looks like god-tier poof. Who is it for?

Well I loosely used this tutorial from RuffleButt, though mine is only 4 organza circle skirts (she did 7). And in between are gathered rectangular skirts of netting, 60" wide. I didn't need the horsehair stabilizers she used.

And it's for a Mega Audino gijinka!

Friend invited me to Fate/Zero group for con this weekend. She's going in Saber's blue dress and I ultimately decided on Saber Lily because I had a ton of cream colored fabric on hand

That's awesome! Lily's on my list at some point, when I can sew a lot better. It's looking great.

You people better hold on to your tits. I am the dreaded dingo and I plan to blow them off. My progress. My costume. My attitude. My intellect.

Prepare yourselves.

Little more progress, but I don't think I'll actually get this done in time for local con. Pardon the mess, and million stray fibers, little bit in scramble mode right now
