Pretty excited for ALA since it's pretty much my home con. I like the feeling of the Holidays still lingering about during the con so I usually bake some Rum-Brandy Cake and make a lot of cookies and fudge to bring with and hand out.

Going to go all Battle Royale for the AA tables for next year though. I got one this year and it was a ridiculous amount of fun so I hope I can make it the first 42 First Come First Serve.

There is also at con registration and if you sign up at con, the best thing to do is just fill out the basics of paperwork and turn it in. As long as you have something in and signed, you can edit what you need later. Secure your spot in the masquerade, worry about the finer details later.

Admittedly this is going to be the first con I'll be going to in years. I've finally gotten the free time to head up to LA.

Anything I should expect? I haven't bought a ticket yet but I'm going to soon.

not all of them are like ALA in terms of nightly shenanigans, but in general there will be more excitement at an anime con just because the audience is a lot wilder. comic con's tend to be pretty low key, which is a nice break, but sucks when you really need something to do in the evening.
i want to say Fanime is a close second for me as far as parties go since the con center's open 24 hours, but that's just me.

The other thing that is somewhat unique is the number of people who set up a full bar setup at cons. I know of one group in the midwest who does but there are a lot of people on the west coast who do, including myself.

I can't discuss the Venue as nothing is set in stone. No contract has been signed yet so it's all up in the air. Though I will say that every venue that has been looked at has been viewed so we can accommodate a larger audience, have more space, and more room to do what the con wants to do.

It will stay within the LA area but this includes LA County as a whole.

I'd also suggest going to the ALA website and looking for the Bus Survey and fill that out. If enough feedback goes into that, ALA will be venturing into a shuttle service that will pick up attendees at key locations and drive them straight to the convention center doors for a cheap reasonable fee. so for those in the OC, far east, or up in Santa Clarita/palmdale zones this saves on gas and driving and parking like woah

ALA's masquerade is really good. Not only is the show always full (the cap of groups is 40 people and there is always a waitlist albeit a short one.) The green room is catered, a backdrop is up so you can get nice shots of your masquerade outfit, and there is a repair station in case of any last minute issues.

ALA masquerade is hands down one of the best masquerades I've been a part of and I would recommend it heavily. Bring your A game because a lot of other people do so as well.

this year's ala has an "attendance cap" of 4,000 through prereg only badge sales. sure there will be some outliers, but you can't really do anything or get into the convention area (lower levels) without a badge, so i wouldn't expect much more than the set number of attendees.

ALA is a much smaller con especially when compared to AX. It's not about industry and more about community. I would give it a chance and take a good look at some of the panels, (I suggest Cosplay Wrestling Federation and Banzai Arcade.) The AMV Contest and Masquerade are also very good! If you're down to play video games, check out the game room. You wanna read some Manga, stop by our manga lounge and take a breather. Need a snack to get through the day? Visit our Con Suite. There's a great amount to do, just requires a bit of giving it a try~ I'm sure you'll find something for you.

So i'm staying at the hilton instead of marriot? is it worth staying there? I live pretty close so driving isn't a problem for me. I was really hoping for marriot, but no luck.

I don't know if the Hilton is honoring our Parking rates as well but it's literally next door to the con so you can't really miss out on much, and with the convention being so close to the airport, being around at night isn't an issue and walking to and fro is no problem.

You should be fine a month out. I would be concerned about having your badge some time around mid november. I think that's when the Execs are expecting the badges to sell out. Also if you wanna gift a badge but are unsure if your friend will go, you can always roll over any membership to the following year. I think a gifted badge that doesn't end up being used can roll over to your friend for 2016 OR you should be able to have it rolled over to yourself for the following year.

By the way; if you got the staff email and the staff badge purchase link, that means you're in, correct? My friend who went to the recruiting meeting and has previous experience at AX, Touhoucon, ect didn't get it, but I did after one day. It seemed very suspicious at the time.

I actually responded to a Facebook message about this. But I'll post here as well. The general meetings aren't mandatory unless you're a department or division head. But if you're on staff it's good to be there to be on the up and up as well as have a chance to talk to other staff members and departments. Some departments use the general meeting days as opportunities to meet with their staff prior to the con since the execs are there all day from like 10 AM till well after the meeting.
