My brands of choice are..

>Hourglass
>Chanel
>Besame Cosmetics
>Skin Food
>Mizon
>Anastasia

Brands I no longer use, but have experience with..

>Clinique
>The Body Shop's cosmetics
>Lancome

Never was a MAC person. Only own two of their lipsticks in pink shades. Not that great and I never saw the hype other than the fact that they're cheap, but because they're cheap.. they're also shit compared to what I'm used to.

I should have been more specific, I apologize. I meant their lipsticks. They're hyped up a lot, but the girls that I see who hype them up are ghetto and think it's high end. I never used MAC until very recently and my first non-Target store brand was Lancome, so I pretty much hit the ground running from there and it set the standard of what I'm used to.

Their lipsticks have pissed me off in terms of smell and texture. They apply like melted crayons, with or without lip balm under it.

ah I use MAC pressed powder, blush and their mascara. The mascara I use made one of my friends ask me if I finally figured out how to apply false eye lashes, so I like it.

only use the pressed powder for cosplay, my regular day to day make up is clique pressed powder. I'll use my MAC until I run out, it's served me well so far, but to each their own.

eyeshadows i use are generally Urban Decay, but I do have some MAC, bare minerals and clique that I'll use.

I like Nyx liquid liner

I have a LOT of different lip sticks I use, so it really depends on what shade and amount of wear I want.

Reposting.

Would primer be the solution to my problems, and what primer would you suggest?

I put lotion on my face everyday after I shower, and I only wear makeup 1-2 times a week, sometimes none.
I recently bought Hard Candy's heavy duty concealer as my other concealer isn't light enough. Now this might be my loose powder doing this, but after I set my foundation and concealer with my powder almost 1-2 hour later I noticed my nose looks patchy(like makeup is missing), flakeyness under my eyes and the lines under my eyes look like no makeup was applied(it just looks like streaks of missing makeup.)

I lotion my faces everyday, so I'm thinking a makeup primer or something would help keep the makeup in place?? This problem all started when I bought a new concealer.

ok, i'm at a standstill with my foundation/bb cream/etc. routine. I have used just about everything from drugstore liquid foundation, to foundation/powder combos, to both korean and USA BB creams....and I've never found something I loved.

I'm looking for something with a decent coverage (BB cream seems a little too light coverage for me) , and basically any 'format' is fine, i don't care if it's liquid or powder. I'm pale, and trying to achieve a sort of "doll - like" look. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

M.A.C. isn't inherently bad. Some of their stuff is good for the price. It's medium end so you're getting better quality than drugstore. I have tried their eyeshadow primer, their lip gloss, lipstick , eyeshadow, and liner.

Honestly it really does depend on the product.
The primer is shit with their eyeshadows, curiously enough, but not with the rest. The eyeliner might be too creamy for my preference, but it's bold enough. As for their lip stuff I can't really complain.

It's a good brand if you're looking for quality and price, but it's not the best. There are better brands out there.

Depends on what you're looking for.
Lush is primarly good with body lotions and bath stuff, although their bath bombs might be too concentrated. Some people's bathtubs have turned neon pink because of bath bombs. Just the colorant, but still.

The Body Shop, on the other hand, is good for skincare and bath stuff. Their cosmetics can be good but it depends on what you're looking for.

Their lip glosses and lipsticks don't last a lot, need to be reapplied a lot throughout the day, but their eyeshadows are decent. So are their makeup tools.

I haven't bought too much from Lush but I like the full of grace moisturizing bar and there's a really cute rabbit bubble bar that comes up around Easter. I bought a bath bomb once but it was one of the plainer types because my bathtub is white, it was alright. I just wonder about how much colorant they use because I've been making my own bbs and it feels like you'd need a ton of dye to get them as bright and colorful as theirs (which is also totally explainable as to why people's bathtubs get stained with them).

The Body Shop's newest primer (Instablur) is good, but I'm so used to Too Faced's primer for sensitive skin that I can't make a permanent switch. My friend likes their mascara; The waterproof one. I only used their color glide lipstick in a dusty rosé shade, but I'm not sure if they still carry those at each store. Their main lipsticks got reformatted and from what I hear, they're far superior to the old in terms of color and texture.

I use their eye shadow and it holds better than Clinique's shadow does. Their pressed powder is also good enough for me because it comes in fair enough shades for Asian skin tones. Their lip liner is also pretty good. I own a blush by them, but I have only used it once. I can't say anything bad about it, but I just don't think blush flatters me. I feel like I have rosacea when I've used it.

I will never again use their foundation, though. Its too dark and heavy. It made my pores more noticeable. Their bb creams are also too orange for me, which is a shame because they made a tea tree bb cream set and I loved that line.

Out of everything I've owned in terms of cosmetics, I favor their pressed powder. Its called all in one face base, I think. Their brushes are long lasting, too.

I use NYX eyeshadow, eyeliner, powder, lip primer, and setting spray. I really like the line because they have enough crazy colors to cover many cosplay needs as well as stuff you need for everyday looks. Quality IMO is in the upper middle range and that's pretty awesome for something that's on the less expensive side. Their stuff is well-pigmented and for me it lasts really well. I use primers and obviously the setting spray but I rarely have to do any touchups throughout the day. I just like the brand because it's less expensive so you can pick up a ton of colors and just experiment.

>>7874845
It depends on what shade you choose for yourself. I have tried a few shades and one is a definite winner. I'm a fair-skinned Asian [re: pale with gold undertones] and the Maybelline "Bare All" shade looked awful on me, it was just too pale and washed everything out. I tried BH Cosmetics "Nearly Nude" shade and it was the perfect balance of "nude" color with a hint of pink so it didn't wash me out completely. I originally was looking for nude lipsticks because I crossplay sometimes and wanted something less drying that concealer to sort of cut some of the redness of my lips. BH's shade gets my vote. I also didn't really like how weird the Maybelline lipstick felt on my lips, it seemed more greasy whereas BH's had a creamier texture.

I'm a bit of a minimalist, I don't like to buy new stuff before I use up my old products and tend to not own too many of the same item at once.

I've unfortunately come to the realization that I have nearly exhausted my patience toward drugstore makeup. Its irritating to buy something hoping that it will match only to find that it did not. Stuff like mascara is ok but foundation is impossible and most drugstore eyeshadows suck. I own a lot of drugstore items but getting to the point where I've found what I like was wasteful. My current lemmings:

>Benefit gimme brow
>Anastasia Diprow
>Too faced Shadow Insurance (udpp a shit)
>Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Rose and Red Dahlia (I don't like lipstick since I have small lips)

On a less specific note I am also hunting for a new foundation, liquid and gel eyeliner and a neutral eyeshadow palette. I think I will get the MakeUp Forever HD Foundation; my skin is evening out and frankly I'd rather tolerate a few blemishes peeking through so I can have a good, skinlike finish. A natural finish is what is most important to me. Anyone care to recommend a foundation?

I thought this cosplay was a good interpretation of him, it looks like they used a lot of eyeliner, maybe some false eyelashes (you'd probably have to try finding a pair that have a spider-lash look but aren't too full/over the top) and a lipstick that's more of skintone color instead of using a red or pink shade

As for actual makeup
>Chanel's Mat Lumiere foundation in 30 Cendre. This foundation is for oily skin. It's too beige on me, so I only use very little.

>The Body Shop's pencil black liner. Sometimes I use the liquid presentation. Both stay in place.
>The Body Shop's black mascara. Any is good.

For lipsticks [from lightest to darkest]

>Estee Lauder's Pure Color Forbidden Apple. This one I don't use a lot since it has glitter.

I'm a bit disillusioned. My impression is that they expanded their product line too quickly and the quality couldn't keep up. They used to be excellent for cheap eyeshadow (if you bought the singles) but then they discontinued the singles to place more emphasis on the eyeshadow palettes. The e/s palettes are shit. The new singles are apparently not as good as they used to be. They had some really gross glosses they discontinued, and the round lipsticks are like beautifully colored crisco. The loose eyeshadow pots are supposed to be very good still but why whould i pay money for such awful packaging?

That said, I like their powder blushes and finishing powder and the brushes are good. Old NYX eyeshadows are amazing. NYX seemes to thrive on cult products, everything else rides on those coattails. Research individual products before buying.

I'm probably getting their setting spray and pore filler.

I can recommend many good Drugstore items the issue is that I just got fed up with buying something and having to return it (if even possible) because the color didn't match or because I didn't like the formulation. I've had Sephora disappointments but the hit rate is so much higher than the misses. I went through tons of d/s blushes before I found a NYX one that I liked. Spent who knows how much. I go to MAC, buy a blush, and am still using it years later.

Current d/s stuff I CAN recommend
>Wet and Wild Comfort Zone Eyeshadow Palette (incredible)
>W&W Mega Liner Liquid Liner (tho I wont replace it)
>Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara for eyebrows
>Rimmel Scandal Eyes Mascara
ELF HD POWDER
>NYX powder blush in Mocha and Silky Rose

There are definitely good products but you really cant blind buy anything and expect something decent the way you can with higher end makeup. I'd recommend going through their website and making a note of what products interest you so you can read reviews on them later. Some of their products are very good and have achieved cult status (like the soft matte lipcreams), I'mjust not as enamored with them as I once was but I don't think they are total shit or anything, I have some NYX lemmings. I'm just more cautious and research beforehand. Their crowning glory used to be the eyeshadow singles and that time has passed sadly.

I think a lot of the hype is due to the price point, really. If you've never bought better you will be easily impressed. I only recommend buying from someplace with testers or with a good return policy.

I have just one of her lipsticks from a few years ago (Sephora no longer carries that line, only Studded Kiss). I found it had a dry texture that was difficult to apply. I'm not sure if they've improved since then.

I'm new as fuck to makeup, but here goes:

For work and when I'm in a rush:
>Simple hydrating light moisturiser
>Australis primer (it's not that great but I'm using up what I have left)
>Missha Perfect Cover BB cream in 13
>Australis stick concealer
>Rimmel Stay Matte powder in transparent
>Tony Molly Lovely eyebrow pencil
>Rimmel Extra Super Lash mascara

For meetups or when I have a bit more time I swap or add in the following products:
>Too Faced Primed and Poreless Pure primer
>Shu Uemura Lightbulb foundation in 584
>Blush + highlighter from various palettes
>Mario Badescu Facial Spray (it's marketed as a finishing/refreshing spray, but tbh it's more of the latter)
>Rimmel Gel Eyeliner

I've got a few other various Revlon and Napoleon Perdis mini palettes, and I've recently been trying out a few of the NYX butter glosses.
My main hurdle atm is my shitty skin and the fact that makeup is rather expensive over here. At least we're getting Sephora next year.

I used their peach sake one and one of the tea ones and I have combination skin (really oily t-zone and lids). I think I like the peach sake one better because it feels lighter on my oily parts, and it holds up alright. I personally like the smell (exactly what it sounds like) but it could be too strong for some people.

I used skin79 and missha and I liked both. As long as you prep well with primer, you'll be fine.

idk if this is exactly the right thread to ask, but I have a really thin, sharp nose bridge and I want to make my nose look less harsh, any tips? I've tried just putting highlighter on the sides of my nose bridge but I feel like it makes the shadows on my nose look even harsher. Yay! Anon, I really hope you like the BB cream. I was so hesitant to order it because no BB creams have worked on me and only one foundation from a Western beauty brand is light enough for me, but I don't like how heavy it felt against my face. I was ecstatic when I first tried Mizon's because something was FINALLY pale enough for me. Having neutral undertones can be such a bitch.

As for the powder, it's just as pale and it smells great. It's good for sealing the cream and keeping shine away.

Yes.
Primer is important to apply before your makeup.
BB creams are moisturizing but they also offer coverage like a foundation. Primer is used to control shine and also to control your makeup from smudging. Always use a primer.

Their Amazing face Powder foundation is better than the Cocoa Powder foundation. It's really good if you want shine control and for helping to reduce sebum production on your nose and cheeks. It has SPF 15, but I prefer to still use an actual sunscreen.

I used to have really oily, acne prone skin since I was about nine, but recently my skin changed to combination. Unless you're a massive oil slick like I was, you won't need to reapply it throughout the day.

http://www.lancome-usa.com/L-Absolu-Rouge/3605533435311,default,pd.html#start=2

This is my favorite lipstick by them. It stays and has great color, but you need to let it dry first. I like Chanel, but Lancome and Besame are both better in terms of having options for darker reds. Their products frequently use roses, so there's a light and pleasant scent of that with their lipsticks and powders.

http://www.lancome-usa.com/Dual-Finish/096018205193,default,pd.html#start=4

I've used this powder, as well. I suppose it would be a better option for fair skinned girls who don't feel like ordering from Asia. Their mascara base is good, but I'm not too big on their mascaras themselves. I usually stick with Too Faced in that area. Their makeup remover is good and lasts long and this..

-Joe Fresh lip tint I got from my cousin in Canada, it lasts for fucking ever
-I have a cheap electric eyelash curler that I got from 80 cents (EUR) in a rummage sale

Does anyone draw on lower lashes for shits and giggles?
Ellie is my role model and I've been trying to copy her eyeliner style with a liquid eyeliner but there's not enough eyeliner in the tip and when you turn it on its side for a dark line it's way too long for me. Do you think gel is the best bet for doing the small triangles?

Also anyone here done fake lower lashes? I keep trying and failing with normal upper eyelashes because my lashes are thick as fuck and I keep misjudging where my lashline is, smearing glue everywhere (even after waiting for it to get tacky), but I doubt I'd have that problem with lower. >Liquid Liner

This might be your problem. Liquid eyeliner would be horrible on your lower eye due to the natural folds and wrinkles. I would very much suggest a gel liner with an angled brush.

>Fake lower lashes

Duo Lash glue is your lord and saviour for this. Also, cutting your lashes into 4 lines each then applying it onto your lower lash can help you out there. I've had lower lashes on before and they can be a real bitch if they aren't trimmed to your eye length.

Hope this helps.

With the lower lashes, my issue is that I often glue *over* my natural lashes by accident (some of the lashes lay flat, so the only way to avoid gluing on top of them is to put the falsies further down, which looks stupid).

For top lashes, I find it's easiest to use a pair of tweezers to get the centre of the lashes in place (I choose to grip a "clump" of the fibres to grip that will line up with my iris/pupil, so that both sides are even). I let that sit for a count of two, then use the tweezers to position the ends.

If the areas in between aren't quite flush to my lash line, I use the back end of the tweezers to gently nudge them into place.

Very little glue smear, and generally means they're evenly placed on both eyes.

I've gone to three different MAC locations in different shopping malls, one not even in this state, and the staff is always rude or seemed as if it was a chore to ring up my purchase. After that, I pretty much gave up trying to buy anything from that brand. I didnt feel like paying for more things I already didnt feel stood up to other stuff I use, coupled with that attitude.

Same, I swear by my BB Cream. I've had rosacea and a pink nose for years, and Mischa's Perfect Cover is literally the only product which has ever been able to cover it perfectly (perfect cover indeed!). I've spent so, so much over the years on all these high end products - none of which ever managed to do what I wanted it to. Is spending money on a bunch of different products and experimenting the only way to know?

>> No.7879357

>>7879245
Experimenting, yes.
Buying a bunch of products, no.

When you start to wear makeup, it's important for you to take baby steps so you get used to it.
I think that for beginners, an eyeshadow [the color is up to you, but it'd be best if you started with a soft, light color], mascara, and some lipgloss or tainted lip balm. This is to start you off without feeling your face is overwhelmed by using too many products.

Get one of those eyeshadows that come with a brush [or you could use your fingers, it ultimately depends on what works best for you. Obviously make sure your hands are clean before applying any makeup].

Your lashes might feel a little heavy from the mascara. Start off by applying only on the upper lashes, and then when you feel more comfortable, apply on the lower ones.

Little by little, add more things to your makeup routine. Don't rush by buying a bunch of products because you might end up with a lot of shit you might not like or use in the future.

There's plenty of videos on YouTube to get ideas from. I'll avoid linking you to the obvious ones to avoid drama, but here:

It depends on what you mean by "stack up". Color intensity or staying power?

They have incredibly pigmented shadows, so the color is really good and so is the staying power. It's a matte finish. Urban Decay's, I've found, doesn't stay as long as Sugarpill's does. The color is still strong, though. Sugarpill uses really bold, theatrical sort of colors that you normally don't see most wearing (bright ass yellow/orange/neon green and red, etc), whereas UD usually sticks with more "normal" colors.

Personally, if I were to go for a purple eyeshadow, I prefer Sugarpill's over UD simply because the color is much more intense for my tastes.

Have a wonderful weekend if you see this before it's over!
Here's a frightened dog in lolita for you just because.

I went to Lush last night and bought one of their lip scrubs, they're really good. The étude house tube I had was really harsh on my lips but theirs didn't hurt or irritate to use. The Christmas one smells kind of funny but it's a couple dollars cheaper than the others for the same effect.

Definitely noticed the difference between going there on a busy night and during the week though. I got hounded/toured around by an employee compared to when I go during the week and they let me do my own thing after I tell them what I'm there for.

i used macs fluidline with some cheap ass brush i got out of a revlon package. i generally dont like pen liners because i feel like i have way less control than i want.

the brush i have is a rounded brush. i think im going to look for an angular one instead and try that out. I like the control i have with a brush, i can put as much or as little product as i feel. and being a dumb art student i just feel more comfortable using a brush

I had the bubblegum one, even though I don't even need or use lip scrubs. It honestly was just an overpriced, tiny jar of sugar.

I wish I could find it in myself to like Lush, but with how shitty their employees are, coupled with chemical scaremongering (for things that have been proven to not be threats, even), getting watery eyes and a headache from just walking past the store.. Just.. eh.. So much of their stuff is overpriced and packaged in unsanitary methods.

the brush i have is from maybelline, not revlon sorry.

The brush works great, and probably any brush like this would work. It's flat and with product on it it kind of works into a point of sorts. I've heard a lot of good things about flat angled brushes, but these i think are a bit more common in those pre packaged gel liner + brush combos

Some of them have ingredients that stimulate and make your lips tingle thusly a small swollen effect, also a gloss ingredient makes lips visually look fuller.

oh my god if lip plumpers are doing that to your lips you probably shouldn't be using it. there are some ridiculous plumpers i've seen that if you swipe them across your arm it basically looks like a giant welt. it intentionally irritates your skin and a small bit is ok but if it's tripling the size of your lips then it just doesnt seem safe

I doubt it is.

As a kid I was very allergic to beestings and got stung on the lip trying to shoo one away from my face once. Went to ER, got lovely injections etc. but in the short 20 minute drive to the ER, half of my face was swollen, my bottom lip was so puffy it was about to split, and I was having difficulty breathing. Swelling of that degree in the pic is very possible, especially anywhere on the face. Bad fuckin' times if I may say so.

nope. lip plumpers just do that.

I've tried some on at a sephora for shits and giggles. lips went up about x2 or x3.

I have a whole bunch of makeup I want to get rid of. Its not in bad condition or anything i just want to consolidate my collection. What should I do with it?

Also, are gel/cream liners worth it? Seems like they dry up quick. I cant use pencil liners because they hurt my eyeball so I'd like to know if I am stuck with liquid.

Parting thoughts: I wish good cosmetics weren't so expensive. I have good products from the drugstore but its always a risk. I feel like you cant take good d/s reviews at face value because many are written by people without experience with higher end cosmetics.

Generally speaking, makeup should be trashed once you don't have any use for it anymore. Otherwise it's really unsanitary.

As for gel/cream liners, it really does depend on preference. They're good, but I personally prefer liquid because liquid's more intense and smooth to apply.

Any way to use liquid eyeliner with a brush other than the applicator? I've been using MAC fluidline but it goes on really... patchy? Takes a couple of layers, and it's still smudged by the end of the day. I'm curious about fluid eyeliners, but I haate the applicator brushes that come with them. I love using my little Laura Mercier eyeliner brush.

HELP! My mom has tons of awful, awful, *old* makeup I've been itching to replace. Its shitty because most of it is cheap and old because some of this stuff might literally be a decade old. If not more. I'm 22 now and distinctly remember playing with specific lipsticks from her collection when I was 6. Gross

Replacing everything bit by bit would be a pain and she wouldn't abide by that. But I was thinking of maybe throwing her old stuff out and getting here some new sets. She's literally bought dollar store makeup so she doesn't know what quality is, I could get away with getting her something cheap. I was eyeing some of the NYX or ELF sets; I wouldn't buy them personally but she doesn't have any idea what quality is. Any thoughts or recommendations?

If you mean an angled brush, I am afraid this might not be a good idea and highly doubt you could even do it without wasting a lot of eyeliner.

However, you can buy an eyeliner brush like pic related.

M.A.C. does tend to get patchy. I suggest that in order to avoid this, you let the first layer dry and then reapply.

>>7885799
As long as you haven't actually used any of the cosmetics you'd be mailing to your friend, it's okay.

>>7885812
Why don't you take her with you to buy her makeup? I am guessing that she might be more concerned about the price than anything else, so try to go for medium-end brands like NYX, M.A.C., Too Faced, Urban Decay, etc.

Tell her makeup does have an expiration date, and that her makeup's quality was long gone like, 9 years ago.

I wouldn't just toss everything without telling her (though really, we should, its so fucking old). I'd take her along if she weren't so cheap. Wanted to get her stuff asa surprise so she wouldn't have to balk at the price because her personal budget is about $5. I wish I were kidding :(

>> No.7885855

Would she get mad if you bought her stuff?
Also, do you have any guarantee she would throw away her old makeup when she gets the sets?

>> No.7885858

>>7885855
She wouldn't get mad. She doesn't wear makeup super often so she isn't attached to any of it (maybe once a week). She probably would throw the old makeup away, I wouldn't care if she didn't just because she felt like hoarding so long as she uses the new stuff.

I wanna give her a whole makeover. Aside from old makeup she still uses really old techniques that are no longer really common to her age group by this point. Dry, frosty lipstick with much darker lipliner and frosty eyeshadow, for example.

>> No.7885863

>>7885839
Gift her a cute pre-made set of various items or pack it in a cute set of mid-priced tier stuff for her as a present for something (birthday, christmas, being an awesome mom day whatever etc...). Maybe she'll dump her old stuff and replace it with the items you got her or casually slip in a "hey since I bought you that lipstick you don't really need this old one any more right?" If there's something missing from that set then you can go get it with her and anything that she seems to like but doesn't purchase because of budget you can add onto the christmas list.

>> No.7885881

>>7885863
yeah that's the plan more or less. Her blush and foundation is relatively recent, its her eye makeup and lip stuff that is old, I might just get her that. Some stuff from W&W/NYX/ELF that I can vouch for bc its cheap and a nice eyeshadow palette.

>> No.7885894

Is she a hoarder? Coz she might be like me and stickers - wont use it up because its "special".

Maybe try asking her if she'd like to update her collection
>Mom, I noticed you have a lot of old makeup but there are some newer brands/lines that would look good on you
>Mom let's go to [makeup store] I saw some kits there you'd probably like
Or like you said, get her a couple sets.

I know people react differently to stuff being thrown out but my mother and I share a bathroom and one day I threw out a ton of old stuff that was in the closet. Expired medical items, old bottles of lotion, hair products that were over 3 years old, barely touched bottles of fragrance sprays...she didn't say anything about it and even threw out a couple other things after. Maybe try tossing one or two items and see if there's any reaction.

Why does everyone suggest this brand? We've discussed how the powder from them is bad in about three makeup threads now. It dries people's skin out and it's pretty much impossible to apply with any tools, be it puff or brush, because it won't blend in. There are better options.

Advice for inexperienced people is the same regardless of gender.

If you wanna cover imperfections without doing much to your face, you need three things

>Foundation, which covers your entire face. Evens out the color of your skin too.
>Concealer, for covering small imperfections and dark circles.
>Powder, to set the foundation.

It's important for you to test these things on your arm before buying them, to make sure they match the color of your skin, otherwise you'll look like you're wearing a mask. Places like Ulta or Sephora have testers, or you can ask someone to help you find the right shade for you.

As for eyeliner, pencil is your friend.
