Any ideas for a SIMPLE movie Maleficent costume? I have a friend who can't sew a straight line but wants to be her. What do you think is the easiest way to make the horns, or can they be bought? I don't really want to show her $100 horn headdresses on etsy.

There's no way you'll pull off an armoured character for 50-70 dollars without it looking like shit. If you wanna do league, you could always do something like Teemo, Gragas, Brolaf, etc. IMO a definitely not blitzcrank costume would be really cool, and not too hard (as long as you can find a massive trench coat).

You could also do a genderbend thing, like kitty kat Kat, nidalee, battle bunny (I'm sure you could get a shitty bunny suit somewhere around this time.

it's a really easy costume to make, and even if you could get a costume online, you definitely wouldn't get it in time. If you can express order a hat, the rest would be easy. You just have to thrift a beige top and brown pants. You can buy a bamboo stick from home depot. A lot of people use red bandanas instead of his scarf thing so you can do that too. Most people also don't do the backpack, but if you can find a dark green one that would work, and you can roll up paper to use as maps.

I doubt you'd be able to find this in time, but the best teemo cosplay I've ever seen used a boyscout uniform for the beige top, I thought that was a cute idea.

Posted in /adv/ the other day and got crucified. cheers for being newfag. I'm trying to put together a Capsule Corp outfit Trunks costume from Dragon Ball Z. I'm on a budget of about $40, so I'm going to Goodwill later today to get some things. Might be leaving off the sword, depends on how fat my next check is. I just want to know a few things before I get started.
Are belt buckles (like seat belt buckles) hard to attach to belts? Because I can't seem to find any belts with the seat belt buckles, I feel like I'll probably end up having to make it myself.
How would I go about customizing some old boots to look close enough? What should I get to sew/glue onto the boots to look authentic (like the brown toes and such)?
Any tips (or especially pics) would be greatly appreciated. This is my first attempt to actually make my own costume. Pic related.

Only a Halloween costume, right? Not like you're competing to be best cosplayer of the year, right?

Get these: white plastic buckles
Grab some red (or orange? idk) paper, cut a square out and stick it to middle of the plastic buckle with double-sided tape or superglue.

Now, go forth and get light blue cotton webbing, because that's the most comfy and easiest thing to sew. Cut them to size and seal the edge with varnish/nail polish/superglue (whatever you have). Loop the webbing through the end of the buckle, fold it back on itself and sew it down.

Alternatively, you can also look for blue pleather and cut a long strip to make into a belt.

Don't ask me where to buy anything, I live in some tiny Asian country and order everything off eBay or taobao two months in advance.

Yeah, just for a party for one night.

Thanks for all this. I'd really prefer the metal square buckles (where you push the inner square inward to unbuckle it) but these are a nice fallback if I can't find any or make them work. Shame most of the decent quality ones are only at Hot Topic for like $30 each. The pleather is a really good idea though since I likely won't find a blue belt. Thanks a lot, anons :)

I must confess, anon, I cannot figure out if his boots are just two-color or if they are steel-toed boots.

Assuming you found some brown boots to sacrifice, for fake steel toe caps, you can try gluing some auto body vinyl wrap over the ends
http://calgarycosplay.deviantart.com/art/Cosplay-Metallics-SOLVED-FOREVER-464151191

If they should be black and the shoes you have are leather, go with this:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Painting-Leather-Shoes-or-other-leather-stuff/

For sneakers, use fabric paint (try the craft store).

None of the above are reversible, another alternative is to make boot covers:

http://valdrein.deviantart.com/art/Attack-on-Titan-Boot-Cover-Tutorial-405463439

http://firelilycosplay.deviantart.com/art/No-Stretch-Boot-Cover-Tutorial-161626176

You'll have to figure out the design of the boot on your own; personally I would make one prototype out of cheaper material, draw the design on, cut it up and use the cut-up version to make a final version with patchwork and stuffing to mimic boot straps.... I don't think you have the patience for that, though. Maybe you'd settle on making them brown and painting the toe caps black.

>leather harnesses
>padded leather gauntlet things

>cheap

oh lol anon.

I can only help point you towards where to buy some ready-made things to put together a horribly inaccurate, not-cheap costume.

For the gauntlet things, look for leather wristlets. It's man code for bracelet made from leather, so with any luck your shopping mall should have a fashion store or leatherwork store that has them.

Wear the wristlets over fingerless gloves, or buy regular gloves and cut the fingers and thumb off of them.

For the weapons harness, go down to your gun store and get a leather weapons harness from there. It's the best you can do on very short notice, the few shops that specialise in leatherwork and can craft a good likeness can't finish their work and ship it to you in time.

Wear over regular clothes.

Good luck.

THEN you can worry about seat belts and stuff. It's a typical cosplayer thing to give advice on small details first, don't listen to it.

Hi /cgl/, I'm trying to get a costume together and I've hit a snag. I apologize if this is a simple fix that I'm missing, but I've been looking around for several hours now to no avail. (I also apologize for fucking up and making a new thread my first go-round, I didn't catch that this sticky was here.)

I'm trying to put together a Fire Mario costume, and despite seeing pictures of several people in red overalls, I've only managed to find two red overalls for sale, one without the button-hooks, which instead has black plastic clips, and one that is from a "hip UK" site, and only available in four small sizes. (Capping at a 32.)

I know that the original Fire Mario color scheme had white overalls with a red shirt, but I was hoping to do the more modern one, with the red overalls, and white shirt. At this point which option is better: going for the classic suit, with the white overalls, or buying white overalls and trying to dye them red? The matierial is 100% Cotton Painter's Drill, which I'm not sure is easy to dye with.

Any advice/input would be appreciated, thanks.

What's your main concern? Getting recognized as Mario? Because as long as you have overalls, wear red somewhere, have a stache and a cap with an M on it everyone will know you're trying to be Mario.

Could you sew/glue on yellow buttons over the black clips? They don't have to be functional.

I suppose it isn't so much about being recognized as it is about being accurate, which is kind of stupid on my part. Additionally, aesthetically speaking, I don't know which one would look better. I feel like the white overalls makes the gloves stand out better against the red, but the red seems more "Mario" to me, if that makes any sense.

Additionally, are there any tips on things I could do to the gloves to make them look like they're on fire? Maybe some kind of transluscent foil strips attached to it?

>> No.7871443

>>7871438
The black clips sit high up the shoulder strap, instead of being on the "body" of the overalls, like the usual hook-buttons are, so even if I added the large buttons, they'd still be visible

Buy a length of white cotton cloth that is double your shoulder to knee length, cut hole for head, use paint for device, weather is up a bit if you want.
Cardboard and silver/grey paint should be fine for the armor. Grey clothes underneath. Green shoulder thingos.
Start early is my best advice. Nothing worse than freaking out trying to get it done, but this seems like it would only take you a weekend.
Also just look at lots of pictures from the game.

This is more of a general question, but where is the line between /cgl/ prop-making and more robust /diy/ projects? I'm interested in plating this hammer in steel for a Thor costume but I feel like /diy/ is better suited for wood and metal working advice.

If it could have a normal use (not costume) such as useable hammers or actual swords, I would head to /diy/ or /k/. For more of a prop weapon ie vinyl or foam, /cgl/ is the place. Now armor wise, it is a 33/33/33 split between here, /diy/, and /k/. But that is just my judgment, although I'd probably try to avoid /k/

Hmm I'm not sure cardboard would look all that great. Maybe craft foam for a beginner, you can find a good tutorial here: http://entropyhouse.com/penwiper/costumes/helmsdeep.html

The tabard should be stupid easy to make, look up a pattern on google, and you can use sandpaper and scissors to weather the bottom. As for the shoulder.. things? Pick up some felt or other thick fabric from walmart and layer it like pic related. This tutorial should help with the chain mail: http://www.instructables.com/id/The-Lazy-Mans-Chainmail-Shirt/

Fabric paint is fine for the sun. As for the helmet, the easy way out would be to find a bucket, cut eye holes, add some craft foam for the 3d parts, and paint it silver. Personally, I really like the look of this one (though eva foam could work too):

I'm hoping to be Daenerys Targaryen for Halloween, but I have very little experience making costumes beyond sewing.
Specifically, I would like some ideas on how to make the belt and shoulder pieces. I've considered cutting craft foam or drawing it out with hot glue, but seeing as they have to support the weight of the dress, both of those options seem iffy to me.
Any and all advice would be appreciated, but primarily the belt and shoulder bits.

My suggestion: don't put weight on the filigree shoulder pieces. Grab some organdy, preferably a colour that's as close to your skin as the fabric store has it, and use that to make the shoulder joins. Then attach the filigree on top of that. If you don't want to hotglue it, you can put pins on either side of the filigree so that you can pin it into the blue fabric.

A much clearer alternative is clear vinyl, you can find many tutorials on sewing it. But vinyl traps heat and moisture so it's likely to be uncomfortable at a party.

Craft foam or pleather seems a better idea than hot glue, hot glue dries stiff and a little brittle. Last thing you want is your belt or shoulder piece breaking off in the middle of the party.

Hello /cgl/,

I live in europe and would love to use some cosmetic lenses, (Red iris) to finish off a classic skeletor actionfigure costume. However i have never worn lenses before. I understood that it is preferable to "practice" wearing them a period beforehand and apply the same proper care to your lenses as you would with corrective ones. But to no avail have i found info for how to into lenses safely for noobs. After some looking around i know all about the legal gray area of selling them in America without a doctors permit, but that doesn't help all that much.

Are there any tutorial already out there?

Unless you know the base curve of your eyes, you risk damaging your eyes with lenses that don't fit. That's why you need to get your eyes measured first. Please don't just order contacts without being measured, you're putting your safety at risk.

I hope you know your BC. Usually doctors will show you how to put in lenses and care for them when you go ask them for your prescription. To be honest, the whole taking care of lenses/inserting them is kinda long to type out. Better to go google individual questions and come back when you have something more concrete to ask.

Kay, pretty much, contact lenses (when not prescription) are very simple. You put them in your eyes. If they are uncomfortable, you take them out. You store and clean them with contact solution. You don't let them dry out, and you don't keep them for too long. You do not sleep with them in your eyes, and it is best to only wear them for a few hours at a time. Stay away from any kind of fumes, because there's tons of horror stories about people's contacts being fused to their eyeballs.

They're easier to put in if you look away and apply them to the whites of your eyes and then look forward so they slide into place. It's also easier if you switch them around between fingers after removing them from the solution so they aren't dripping wet. (The wetter they are, the softer they are. They're easier to apply when they're not so floppy.) There's a few ways to take them out. Personally, I look to the side, then put a finger on the contact and move my eye so the lens stays in place.

They're mostly just personal preference, if they're uncomfortable, take them out, rinse them in solution, put them back. If they're still uncomfortable, you're not meant to wear contacts. (Do give it a few moments, though, sometimes you end up with an air bubble under them and you just have to blink it out.)

Option one is the thorough and safe option:

You're honestly better off going to see an eye doctor to check your eyes out; along with checking what your base curve is you can also check whether you have any sight problems you didn't know about and need corrective lenses for.

Then you can speak to your doctor about buying and using cosmetic lenses. Even in Europe I do believe they at least sell normal-coloured lenses (usually brown, blue and grey. Not red though), and along with that, ask the doctor to teach you how to care for the lens. Most cosmetic/color lenses are monthlies (ie- you can keep it for a month), so you will need to buy a special solution for cleaning, storing and rinsing the lenses, and a lens case to keep the lens in (usually comes free with the lens solution). The exact instructions for how to clean/store/etc the lens vary with what kind of solution you buy, but the doctor should be able to give you a rough idea, along with warning signs to look out for when wearing lenses.

Then, with the info that you now have, you can go shopping for red lenses or whatever lenses you like. The care for them is exactly the same as for regular lenses. Be warned, though, red lenses have a rep for being harder to wear than other colours, especially bright reds seem to irritate my cosplayers friends' eyes faster than other colours.

>> No.7872316

>>7872310

Option two is the fast and lazy option:

Most girls who don't have sight problems and don't need glasses can order plano lenses (ie- power = 0, no correction)

For base curve, most lenses are made to 8.6mm because that's common for most people. Without a visit to an actual doctor, you're pretty much taking a gamble that your eyes are average, though.

For lens care, go to your local pharmacy and take a look in the contact lens care aisle. Most cosmetic/color lenses are monthlies, which means you can keep the lenses for a month. You will need solutions to clean the lens, solution to store it overnight in, possibly another to rinse it out before you wear it. A few companies now sell multipurpose solutions that do all of those things with one solution instead of two or three seperate ones. The instructions on how to clean and store them should be printed on the box or inside, and you should chose the ones that come with a free lens case as well, so you can store your lenses.

For how to wear lenses, google how to wear lenses.

Then wait for the lenses to arrive, and you can jump into in wearing them with the instructions from google, and caring for them with the instructions that comes with the lens solutions.

Always insert contact lenses with very, very clean hands. Nothing hurts like getting soap or hand lotion in your eye.

If your eyes hurt (and your hands are not the culprit) while you're wearing them, or your vision blurs and doesn't clear up with a couple of blinks, the contact lens either doesn't fit you (wrong base curve), or is defective. Either way, you should throw the lens out.

Remember, too, that lenses are disposable. The solutions have an expiry date and even the contact lens case needs to be replaced after a while. Don't hoard these things, throw them out so you don't turn them into eye bacteria farms.

That's about it, really.

Cheapest way I could think of is craft foam, gesso, string, and paint. It can all be found at a local craft store and the shape is simple so you wouldn't need to do anything crazy. If you measure your face well and cut the eyeholes neatly there's no reason it shouldn't be wearable.

If you want it to conform to your face, use tin foil as a base (press a few layers against your face to get the shape) and then cover it in paper mache, give it a few coats of Modge Podge to even it out, let it dry /completely/, then paint it. As for eyes, you could try using semi-sheer black fabric on the underside of the eye holes.

This is the other version I made using this method, and it worked well for what I was going for. I had planned on doing a less simplistic, dirty/grungy horror sort of design, but scrapped it after the fandom went to shit.

what's the best way to make a skeleton king kind of costume?

I want something silly to go as for my friend's princess thing she's doing and I figure skeleton king would be silly enough to be acceptable as an alternative to being a prince or something. So /cgl/, I already have my costume for this year planned (Gravelord Nito, not ALL that original but pretty damn easy) but I like starting to plan for next year as supplies tend to be dirt cheap right after Halloween. The plan for next year is for my girlfriend to go as a rather bored looking Princess Peach being kidnapped by me as Bowser. Already have the princess outfit and some of the obvious side things like chain chomp ball and chain and a mushroom kingdom phone case for her, what I need help on is making the whole damn Bowser costume. I'm not a whiz with making things from scratch but I'm usually pretty good at following tutorials. Money isn't really a problem but I'd still like to feel like any money would be well spent. I honestly thought I could find a decent looking costume store Bowser and then build up on it but they all look like total crap. Any help is appreciated or even if it's just pointing me toward some tutorials? I couldn't even find that much myself.

Draft a pattern out of posterboard or kraft paper. Make that shape out of headliner fabric. (Joanns should have it in the utility fabrics section. Not all stores carry it, though, so call your store ahead of time). Using spray adhesive layer on some shiny vinyl fabrics. You might need to double up the headliner fabric in the shoulders to keep them from flopping around. Then you can line the whole thing with black fleece 'cuz it's cheap and doesn't need hemming.

Joke or not, you need some practice.

Try mapping out where you want the markings to go first with a white pencil eyeliner/ an eye/lip liner that's close to your skin tone. That way you're not just blindly painting on your face.

Also to make your fake eyes appear more realistic shade around it to make it look like the natural shadows around your eyes.

Hand stitching. If the edges of the white stripes are tucked under, you can do a blind hem stitch. To keep your collar propped up, get some fusible interfacing from the fabric store. I have several questions as this is my first cosplay of any sort. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Will cheap red tempera paint wash off white clothing? I know fake blood can sometimes stain.

Also does anyone have any tips for painting latex masks?

I want to paint this tiger mask into more of the yellow-orange color scheme from Hotline Miami. I couldn't find any latex paint or medium near me so I saw some people mixing acrylic paint with rubber cement. Would this work out okay?

Hey guys! It's my first time here, but I need some help with a costume so I thought I'd get your expertise.

I's making a costume for haloween, I want to be a Nazgul but I'm only 5'2. I don't want to be the shortest Nazgul in Mordor so I borrowed a friends newrock boots (plat formed and heeled) but I only makes me about average height. I want to raise the shoulders of my costume to make myself look toweringly tall, kind of how the do on headless horseman costumes. I've looked all over the net for a place where I can just by the shoulder components but no juice. I tried to find a tutorial on how to make them and got the same results.

Any one have any tips/tricks/tutorials for me please? Would be crazy appreciated.

>tl;dr: This mask is made of hard resin and colored with automotive paint - can I wear it in the rain or will the color fade?

Doing Dallas from the Payday franchise this year. When I questioned the retailer, he said it a baked automotive paint. I know very little about painting, coating, etc. I decided to run water on my fingers and rub two portions of the mask.

The white portion I rubbed became brighter, the red portion didn't seem to change at all.
I'm thinking that the "dirt" on the white might of been applied after the auto paint, which is why it seemed to run off.

Do you think it needs protective coating? Should I be concerned with wearing it outside, in risk of rain?

Yeah, you probably just washed away any weathering he did. If you're worried, get some clear spraypaint and give it a nice coat. Just keep it light, you don't want it to be super shiny. If matte clear exists, go for that. Automotive paint, if that's what it is indeed painted with, is made to withstand weathering. Does your car fade when it rains? Should be fine if you tested a small area and it looks okay.

So figured this would be faster replies than the regular help thread. cgl regular so don't worry about skill level and time, it's also not specifically for Halloween but if I finish before then it would be nice.

I'm trying to make my bf an Alphonse Elric armour. He's a big guy, 180cm with a few back and shoulder problems, one of his shoulder joints dislocated last year and he has back pain. I'm making the armour out of craft foam so weight isn't a problem. However I want to keep the scale accurate which is something that irks me about every Alphonse armour I've seen. The shoulders aren't wide enough and the head is too big. I'm planning to have him see out of the collar/neck part of the costume so the head and height can be accurate. However this means the shoulders are going to be too high up for his regular arms. This is his silhouette next to 2 references. How can I help make it accurate but still keep it relatively comfortable for him to wear? I thought about fake arms like in Space Marine/Big Daddy suits but it's not big enough, and I've never built anything like that before. Also I'm worried it would look bad in terms of posing and added weight.

That's a cunty photo and a cunty way to show it off because you're not even fit enough to change your proportions and even then, you could've just said. Also, I hope you know that's not you flexing your traps: you're just internally rotating your shoulder and if your routine is as basic as I suspect it is, that's a chronic postural problem that's gonna fuck your rotator cuff and deltoids. Swap out bench for dips and more overhead work every now and then, and do some stretching to correct it.

Thanks. I don't have problems building up the shape since I can just pad or reinforce large craft foam shapes. It's more that his arms will be low on the body since they have to go through the arm holes. I don't know if I'm explaining this well. Like imagine you're wearing a jacket on a hanger held above your head, your shoulders have to go up around your ears. I want to maintain that illusion but he can't do that for long periods of time due to his shoulder and back problems.

Hey guys! So I'm going to do a female Robin costume for Halloween. I haven't really seen any skirts or shorts that strike me as feeling quite right. I ended up compromising and bought some fingerless gloves (I work on a computer all day, I need my fingers) and they're metallic. The top is basically a converted t shirt, and I have some boots that would look alright.

My question is this: Should I go with metallic green leggings, regular green leggings, or should I keep looking for some sort of skirt?

Hobby Lobby. Michaels doesn't have fabric unless it's in 1 foot squares. You might also have a Hancock Fabrics or some locally owned store nearby.

Alternatively you could find some blanket or jacket with the fur you want and just cut it up.

Ok so I decided to cosplay as Master Roshi this Halloween for a party, I thought it would be easy since y shave my head often so I will basically wear a Hawaiian shirt shorts and I already have the glasses all I need now is a beard, at first I went to different costume stores but could not find a suitable beard so I decided to make one but I’m having a bit of trouble since I have no experience doing such things, all I could find is 100% pure virgin wool for knitting I started to take it apart carefully and the texture seems ok now how do I put it together? I want it to look very original any help will be appreciated (thats me in the pic btw) I want the beard to look like this

>> No.7887892

>>7887797
Is the wool spun or in roving form? If it's spun, you can just glue it onto a felt base that will go on your face and just brush it out with a new cat brush.
If it's in roving, you can try to glue that on, but it won't stay. To make it stay, you literally have to needle-felt it into a base.

If you're still able to get acrylic yarn instead, q-made on blogspot has a DIY Yarn Beard tutorial that you can look up. (Can't link it 'cause 4chan thinks it's spam.)

Once you finish with that, you can take a new cat brush and carefully brush out the strands of yarn. Smooth it to make it into a beard and you'd be done. You can just google "how to brush out acrylic yarn" or some variant.

If my hand wasn't in recovery, I'd offer to make you one 'cause it'd be a simple day crochet project for me.

Help me /cgl/, you're my only hope!

It's more of a con costume than Halloween, but I feel bad making a new thread just for this. The tl;dr is that I'm getting this Bad End Spider-Man costume together. Got the jacket fine, and as you can tell, it's not exactly a hard costume.

Aside fom the mask. That fucking mask. Every Spider-Man costume you come across has the lines on it, which I don't want. I finally found a mask without the lines, which I can make do with, and all was well...

Until I got an email from him saying that as he's packing it, he noticed it's stained, and 'not in the perfect condition to be shipped'. He's now offering me either a refund, or a replacement, and I can't decide. The issue is, he doesn't have the exact same mask sitting around, but he does have a similar one. However it's shiny and shit. I can't decide if it'd ruin the look of the costume, you know?

>> No.7888754

>>7888720
For comparison, on the left is the mask I ordered, and the other two are the only alternatives he has which vaguely fit. Obviously the shiny one is in the middle.

So do I go with one of the replacements, or try and find a better mask in time for my con?

I would like to do full face paint in the Dia de los Muertes style for Halloween this year. The problem I'm having is I will be wearing this make-up during a 4 hr performance under lights and I don't want the makeup to sweat off. Really difficult. . . like, 6-8 weeks for a seasoned cosplayer to make and look decent. You're either going to shell out a lot of money for what you can't/won't do, or spend a year learning and applying everything you need to know to make an effective Pit with all the ritzy details.
That being said, if you can cobble all the details together from different sources, it might be effective. White bed sheet? Check. Faux-Roman ribbon edging? Maaaaaybe check.

Mask is the GP-5 civilian model. Make sure you get the right size for your head (you can use measuring tape to get the sizing right).

Don't breath through the GP-5 filter though; it is suspected to have blue asbestos in the cotton aerosol filter.

I'm skinny at 6'2" and 155 lbs. It's in my genetics. I will probably always be skinny. I do lift occasionally, so I've gotten decent muscle definition, but I'm probably always going to be skinny.

Some chicks dig thinner guys; I'd just show off the goods. Buy clothes that flatter your body, not hide it.

If you're a hungry skeleton, buying clothes a few sizes too large to "hide your body" will only make it look like you're a hungry skeleton that can't dress itself properly.

I've been looking at pictures for inspiration because I want to do my own kind of thing, and as much as I didn't want to take any inspiration from that shitty tim burton film I noticed that the rabbit in it had that really obvious pink rabbit eye thing going on and I thought it might be cool to try and do my makeup like that.

I just can't decide if this is actually going to look as cool as I want it to look. Opinions?

Here's pretty much everything I have so far, minus the jacket I may or may not wear and my jeans. I'm not really sure what to wear for a jacket, choices are a navy Franky Max jacket I found at a thrift store (which might be too warm) or a cutoff hoodie.

was also thinking of putting some ears on the helmet a la Celty from Durarara, but I dunno if it'd look good with everything else

so I haven't got much time to go out and buy materials for a costume for the coming friday, and I have to be able to carry it in a backpack straight after i leave work as i'll be travelling cross-country to the party (so won't have any time to dress up in between really)

i'm going as the eye of sauron, mainly because it's one of my best friends party's that i'm going to and he's obsessed with LOTR. also it's simple, i can just wear a black t-shirt and jeans and paint my face up with some painted eye-shape cardboard around my head

i was wondering how I could go about doing the spires on either side of the eye - what could i make them out of and i could I fixate them onto my shoulders to last the night?

Hmm, the portability thing makes it a bit tricky; most methods we'd use or suggest here are more solid, big, require better materials. Can you sew at all? I'm thinking your best best is something like pic related, make each thing from 3 pieces of orange fabric (could probably hot glue it in a pinch if you really can't sew), put wire in where the green dotted lines are to keep it upright during the party and foldable during your commute

then, where the green circles are, attach the whole thing to fabric (several layers of black felt perhaps?) shoulderpads that can strap/tie under your armpits, connect to eachother across your back, maybe pin to the collar of your tshirt too

I've never tried to create anything at this level before and it's really giving me a hell of a time.

Hi /cgl/, inquiry!

Shy guy for halloween, because it is simple and warm and I don't want to freeze my keester off.

Except I didn't want to do the paper plate mask. So this is what I've got so far--plaster because no one could give me much advice about fiberglass.

SO THE QUESTION:

Any ideas on how to smooth this? Elmers glue and water layer? Or wood glue? Can you sand elmers?

Also the eyes are ever so slightly different sizes (they will have mesh or nylons to make them black when it is done)...is it fine or does anyone have any good ideas on how to make them even? Layer by later plaster isn't working...its like trying to get even eyeliner wings. :/

Pros:
It comes in white, no need to paint
It's very lightweight
It can be rolled and applied pretty smooth
Air dries, no baking

Cons:
It won't last and is not durable
Cracks/crumbles easily

Worth a last-minute shot.

Just before I was almost sure I wasn't going to do the visor I came across a pepakura file for one.

I've never done one of these before but it seems doable enough that I'm pretty serious about trying it.

The one thing I'm unsure about by looking around is if I need to apply a resin to the visor or not.

I think the idea is that resin is only used for larger things like helmets or armour? So maybe since the visor is small enough I can skip the resin and apply Bondo, sand it, then paint it?

Hey /cgl/, I'm a novice when it comes to making costumes so I was hoping I could get some feedback on my design.

I'm going to be Bulbasaur.
I plan on using a fake pumpkin and paper mache to make the bulb. I'll wear a green hoodie with painted dark green splotches and cardboard ears coming out of the hood covered in paper mache. Purchased fake vines or ivy will run from the bulb and along my arms. Then I'll wear sunglasses on my forehead with the eyes painted on, or paint the eyes onto the hoodie.

I'm going to cut out paper leaves to attack fellow pokemon with razor leaf. I'm thinking of inserting a flash light into the bulb with a remote trigger for a solar beam attack, but I haven't decided yet.

The only part I don't know is how to attach the bulb to my back. A backpack would be easy but the straps wouldn't look good.

Thoughts?

Easiest is to attach cord on each of the four corners - tie the top to the bottom around each shoulder. You could just directly glue it on and slice it down the center too. No one is going to care about that on Halloween.

To take it in, the best is to remove the zipper entirely, put the suit on, then re-pin the zipper in so it's more fitted. If you don't want to bother with that, mark where your waist is and put in some darts along the sides

Super duper last minute costume needed for tomorrow. There's a 5 a 7 for the people in my study field tomorrow and I still haven't figured out my costume. I practically know no one and have social anxiety so the last thing I want is something that stands out too much. I also have a homemade plague doctor costume but I don't really want to have to take the mask off all the time and keeping it would make me a look like a creep. I also have a really really bad homemade V costume from V for Vendetta but since I don't know these people they might think I'm serious, same thing with an itachi uchiha costume. That leaves me with a bunch of cardboard boxes and pokemon cards. I was thinking of making a costume out of pokemon cards. Would that be too much? Would it be cringeworthy? Now, I've never done this so this is just a suggestion, but, the way I would do this.
>You will need
1 handle, one hammer body, two hammer ends and the text
>I would suggest
Handle is easy. Broom handle works perfectly and you can cut shorter if you really want to. Hammer body, I would probably go with a bin or very wide diameter pipe - bin is most realistic on a time budget. You need one which is a perfect cylinder with a flat base though. Finally, for the ends you just need to use a good amount of glue to attach some superthick cardboard circles to the ends. To get the same look as the one pictured, paint the bin and the handle a bunch of times until it looks right with thick paint. Stack up cardboard circles to desired thickness, and wrap in fabric before gluing to the bin/pipe (probably best to superglue and be liberal with it). I imagine that you could at least pull off your pic with that.

Fiberglass? You can leave it out all you want but it will have trouble curing if it's not warm enough (i think 60 is the minimum temp?) You should bring it in the house if you can, or hit it with a hair dryer.

The easiest way to "fit" something like that is this
>Turn them inside out and smooth them out so they're all flat
>Take a pair of pants that fits the way you want these to and turn them inside out too
>Put second pair on top of first pair and line up
>Trace around the pair that fits well onto the ones that don't
>Pin the layers of the ill-fitting pair together
>Cut with about an inch or two of extra fabric since I'm guessing you're gonna be sewing this by hand.
>Sew a new seam along where you cut
>Turn right side out, try on, make more adjustments until you're content.
Like this but with pants instead of shirts.

aw yeah warhammers.

Just finished Mjolnir in time for tonight. It's a 7lb wooden mallet made from a 5x5 beam. I'll stencil the runes and stuff on before the next time I use it but it's too late for Halloween.

I assure you it's very smooth. It has some nicks in it because I used it as an actual mallet for a few years before painting it but sandpaper won't get that out. Besides, it only takes an afternoon to make another and I have plenty of wood left. If I could find my whittling knife I would have already made a cleaner one and painted that one instead.

I just brought the helmet. I did not make it. I only did the rest of the costume. Thanks, though.

I'd like the jacket and belt to be at least this good by the time a con comes up.

I'll be starting the jacket from scratch as soon as I can find another good base jacket, because I really wrecked the current one with tons of glue and crap.
