I still haven't found a wig that I really like yet (I'd like to do minimal cutting/styling because I'm a huge noob who only has one wig) and I'm contemplating just styling my natural hair for my first meet up. It's dark brown and curly and I'm getting my bangs cut soon. I feel like with some hair spray and a wand, I could emulate the style of most popular wig options. I just don't want to look lackluster next to everyone else, you know?

Im just curious, but why do people like Lor so much compared to other "famous" lolitas? What does she do differently?

>>7862469
Mini b=veil? Get black chiffon. Gather it at one edge. Use a floral clip or fake flower to hide the ugly gathered edge. You'll want to either trim the edge of the chiffon and use fray check, or distress the whole thing.

>> No.7862492

>>7862476
Taking a blind guess here and I don't mean to sound like a bitch in the least, but from what I've seen, it probably has to do with Lor not looking like a model or looking like a porcelain doll or some shit. She just looks like your average girl who's into the fashion for the hell of it, and she's nice too.
You can interpret that as "because she's ugly compared to other lolitas", but that's what makes her likeable imo. Plus she coords well.

Don't wear full lolita on the plane.
It's unpractical. Airports are crowded as fuck and that increases the chance of getting stains or dirt on your brand. It's also unpractical for security check. In some countries you have to take off your shoes, so make sure to wear shoes you can easily take off. Don't wear a petticoat. The people who sit next to you on the plane may find this rude since pettis are poofy and take away too much space.

Roll your petticoats and put them in a vacuum bag.
The number of outfits you can bring depends on the size of your suitcase and how elaborate your outfits are. I usually bring a huge suitcase which fits 2 full outfits + normalfag clothing for the rest of the days.
If you want to save space plan outfits which share the same elements, such as bolero, blouse, bag or accessories. And if you have one OTT outfit which contains a huge ass hat and tons of bigger accessories you may want your second outfit to be a little more simple (centered around smaller accessories).

Last year I had a surgery and shortly after began to lose my hair. Didn't put two and two together, and all doctors said it was stress. This year had a second surgery done and the hair loss came back. All the doctor said is to wait, and my hair keeps falling.

I've got my very first comm meet up coming up, and, ugh. This is going to sound so stupid, I just need to vent. I'm worried about buying a wig and then having my boyfriend make fun of me. I'm classic, and sometimes I feel like I can kinda tell that he's a little weirded out and he's always going on about how great I look in jeans. He's not mean at all (okay so we're both kind of abrasive) but he has never said a single unsupportive thing nor has he ever tried to dissuade me from wearing my Coords. But it all started with just a brand dress, and he was okay with that. Now there's a petticoat and blouse and I feel like he's already like, what the hell. I'm worried that he'll think less of me if I wear a wig.

I thought about extensions, but bills caught up and there's no money. For three months, having your hair fall out every time you run your hand through it, or finding these wobs of hair in the bathtub and in the sink and in the floor on the rare occasion I even brush my hair anymore is driving me mad. I fought against wearing a blouse, then I saw how shit it looked, so I wore a blouse. I fought against pettis, but then I saw how shit it looked, now I've got some pettis that are just the perfect size. Natural hair is hard to style right for lolita, and the worst part of it is I was growing it out well before the surgeries. My hair is down to the bottom of my breasts, but its thin. And it's only going to get thinner at the rate it's going. Last year my hair was so thick at shoulder length I couldn't even get those pirana clips around it. I had all these tutorials saved for all sorts of braids and buns and updos. Now my hair is long, but thin as hell.

Do not know what I'm going to do for that comm meet.

Oh yeah? How butthurt would he be if he started losing his hair? Guys take a huge chip off their self-esteem once they start balding. I bet most of them wish it would be socially acceptable for them to get wigs too.

Also don't bother with extensions, they will rip out your hair even worse. You'll be happy with a full wig anon, do it for you.

>> No.7865771

Holy shit. You know what anon, you're right. I love him to death and he's crowning a bit at the front and has a bare spot at the back. It doesn't bother me at all but he's always talking about it, always mentioning how he's crowning, and always talking about how those hair restoration things are snake oil and how he'd never bother trying it even though I've never mentioned the stuff. Maybe if he gives me crap I'll just tell him that my hair is a line in the sand and how would he feel if he tried something to make him feel better about his hair and I made fun of him for it. I never thought about it that way before. Thank you so much, anon!

And thanks for the tip on the extensions. I was kind of bummed I wouldn't be able to afford it. I thought the bonded ones or those microbeads would be safer for the hair as opposed to a weave and I rationalised that I'd only keep them in until my hair grew back, but you're right. I can't imagine any kind of weight will go well on a weakened hair follicle.

Honestly, thank you so much. I've been really, really stressing this stuff especially as this will be my first meet ever and the community seems wonderful. I really want to make a good first impression and have a good time instead of constantly worrying about my hair. Thank you so, so much!

>> No.7865777

>>7865771
You should noooot be getting micro ANYTHING on your hair when it's falling out. Wrap that shit up, put it under a cap and wear a wig. You need to protect your hair not stress it out even more.

>> No.7865814

>>7865777

Yeah, you're right. I got lucky the money issue came up, because you're right. A microbead would crimp the hair, and the bonding is a gluing agent which would weaken the hair. Not to mention, the sheer weight of the extensions themselves would just yank whatever hair grew back in right out- or worse, it'd make it grow in weaker.

Damn, gulls. You guys just helped me out so much. And now I'm going through wigs and I feel excited for the meet. And these wigs! My last experience buying wigs was when I cosplayed back in 04. All we had then was the cosplay.com store and, shit. The selection was nowhere what selection is now. Just one after the other these wigs are beautiful, and so much more realistic looking than the affordable cosplay wigs back then. Used to be you bought a wig based of which one you might maybe could pull off, and your choices were basically a godiva and those uber curly 80s glam rock wigs and then you dyed it. Now if anything, the problem is *too much selection.* Now you actually have the freedom to choose by style and by which style would flatter you as opposed to which one looks least shitty.

This is glorious. And this is only the first shop I've looked at (dolluxe.com) Now I see why I see you guys recommending wigs so often. Some of these look completely natural while still having some beautiful styles.

Oh man, I'm so excited. I have been dreading this and going insane over this for months. I never thought I'd be this hopeful about having good hair ever again. Under a wig cap my hair can take its sweet time to recover.

>> No.7865823

Girl with alopecia here.
I suffer from chronic hair loss due to genetics, and I've always had thin hair and stuff.

Do not wear extensions, do not dye your hair, and do not get any "hair growth" treatments at the salon because those will fuck you up. Follicles get atrophied and this is what causes hair loss. If you get extensions you're going to damage your follicle and suffer from further hair loss.

I suggest you go to the dermatologist so they can help you with your hair. Wear a wig and if you're bummed about that, buy one that looks as natural and cute as possible.

It bums be the idea that I don't have enough volume in my hair to match it with my coords, but what can you do. No one should criticize you for wearing a wig and if so, fuck it. Your reasons are valid.

>> No.7865849

>>7865743
I've been going through hair loss myself. I'm not sure what brought it on, I'm assuming it's probably some thyroid issue I've not had checked out and a combination of birth control. Once I turned 25 it started, and by the time I was 28 and on birth control, I could really see a huge difference. Basically I've got a huge thin patch right where my bangs are and bangs are the only thing that looks good with it, keeping it longer makes it look really thinned out. Plus it's really easy to see my scalp any way I part it.

I pretty much exclusively wear wigs with lolita. I've been considering trying out some falls and clip in bangs, but since my hair is so fine now (used to be really super thick) and my natural hair texture has super-fine strands, I'm afraid it'll look kinda weird.

Wigs give me a lot more confidence, tbh.

It was my dermatologist who told me to wait. Checking in with her at the end of this month to see where we're at. Before her I was going through endocrinologists. Two different docs, two sets of exams, everything normal. Last year they suspected a thyroid condition but that was also negative. Lucky for me, my mom works at a dermatological company and her buddy looked over my results and suggested more B Complex vitamins and B 6 along with my Biotin. Hair's still falling but growing at an absurd rate.

The only thing both instances have in common is surgery. I went under for a surgery to tighten up a muscle around my eye last year, and this year I went under for three wisdom teeth getting yanked. It was my surgeon this year who suggested maybe it was the propofol they used to knock me out that caused some super weird reaction.

All I know is there are few things more hopeless than having a doctor look at your chart, sigh, look up at you and say 'it's probably stress.'

Yeah, when I first started meta was my favorite brand but now I almost never like or buy anything they do. I'm all about AP. The biggest reason is a lot of their stuff is kind of.. unique to coordinate. They use a lot of colors and themes that don't match anything else in my wardrobe. My first meta skirt, I still haven't made a really nice coord for it. Whereas AP is very easy to mix and match.

Who cares what your boyfriend thinks? He doesn't have to like everything you do and if he really cares about you, he'll deal with it. One of my friends used to wear lolita almost daily, her bf hated it. She just didn't care and wore it anyway. They're married now. It's just an opinion, unless he tries forbidding you from wearing it it's fine, every relationship has one or more people who don't like something the other one does. I would talk to him about not making fun of you, my boyfriend and i make fun of each other all the time but we also know some topics that aren't funny because we've talked about it. It's pretty dick to make fun of your partner for something that actually hurts their feelings and you shouldn't be scared of that happening.

Anyway, you are right, I decided to take my chances with them so if they don't refund I will just know to avoid next time

How do you guys figure out which colour coat to get?

My wardrobe is kind of all over the place colour-wise and I want a coat that won't clash with anything. I mostly wear:
>brown
>black
>white
>dusty pink
>dark green
>ivory
>navy
>wine red
and the coat I want comes in camel ("cafe au lait"), red wine, dark brown and black. I worry that camel/brown will clash with black and red will clash with pink. I'm really trying to decide between camel and red at this point but maybe black is a safer choice and I don't even know anymore. I wish I could just afford two coats.

Am I over-thinking this? Halp.

>> No.7868352

I have the same problem, anon. I think camel is the best choice, it's neutral enough to be OK with black, and then you can get a black one further down the line.

>>7868344
I went for a coat in a black, since my wardrobe steers towards dark colours and also I want to minimise the risk of dirt showing up since coats are a pain in the ass to wash. I don't think black clashes particularly badly with pink, but really, you should pick whatever colour you like best, clashing doesn't HUGELY matter with coats since they're expensive and it's not expected that you have one for every outfit.

I have this problem. My wardrobe is mainly classic and subdued colors like:

>black

And I got a BTSSB coat for 5000 yen that while is very pretty, is white and all decadently frilly and furry.

It's my first time reserving for a popular release. The last one I did wasn't as crazy popular as this.

On my less popular reservation IW basically emailed me back to confirm my order, I got an invoice sent to my paypal to pay, and then after a few more weeks (hairclips apparently come out the slowest across all brands), they shipped out my order. Very drama-free.

Hope you get your headbow as well. I'm hoping there's a chance they have so many people waitlisted they'll look into making a second batch.

I wish more brands would move to JetJ's made-to-order system, I don't even mind waiting for my items, plus having a week to make sure what cut I want usually results in actually keeping the dress forever (still have the first dresses I ordered from them, only ever sold one JetJ dress)

I was more worried about black clashing with camel/brown. I already have a dark brown coat for spring/fall and it looks kind of weird with black tights and shoes sticking out from under it.

That's a good deal! Although I'd be worried about staining it. Maybe since that one was so cheap you could get another darker, more subdued one to wear when you're not in the mood to be a white ball of fluff.

Looking for some advice.

A while ago, I managed to buy 2 dresses from a popular release. The release was a bloodbath but I managed to get 2 dresses that sold out in under a minute. It had always been my intention to keep one dress and sell the other as an investment. In fact I saved a month's worth of paychecks to be able to afford both dresses while I waited for the release.

A friend knows that I have the 2 dresses and really wants one. Among my friends I have a reputation for only selling stuff for the amount I paid for it, or often at a deeply discounted price. I kind of don't want to sell it to her at retail price because, as I said, it was my intention to keep it as an investment. But, I think it will really hurt her feelings if I sell it to her at the appreciated market price (what it currently sells on auctions). besides I kind of want to hold onto it for a little longer because I suspect the price will appreciate more in the next few months... Thoughts?

Its your dress, you can do whatever you want with it. You don't owe it to her to sell it to her. Explain to her that your intention was to sell the dress to make some money off it. If she's willing to pay the price you want for it then sell it. I assume you're probably worried about her getting upset with you. But again, you don't really owe her anything. You're not obligated to sell to her.

Not super likely unless you buy custom sized dresses. Anything in a L or 2L from Taobao would likely be too short, and anything from burando that's a long ver is going to be too small.

There are some longer Taobao dresses, though, and some nice looking bodyline. What style are you looking to get into?

I find that bigger girls tend to look better in styles that aren't diabeetus sweet (no pun intended, i promise) but anything can happen.

The fact that you have an actual defined waist will work in your favor for sure, though.

Where/What do you work in/as?

I have a desk job, my work dress code is somewhere between business casual and formal. I've found that non print IW pieces in darker colours are the best for work clothes, a number of them can be mixed with actual businesswear items, the quality is good enough for it. If you find them expensive to buy straight from the brand, keep your eye on yja and mbok, I often find older plain dresses there for as low as 3k-5k yen (with shipping and all, it should only cost 50-80USD)

As for the skirt you linked, I'd find it okay for business casual, if you wear a shorter blouse that covers the waist corseting part, and keep your petti extremely low poof. It really wouldn't be appropriate at my work place, though.

Does anyone know how well Lady Sloth's petticoats hold up? I've found reviews for everything, but the pettis.

My hair is pretty thin but it's really curly, so I teased it a bit before attempting this. But then it looks too sloppy for a lolita coord. Ah well.

It can be a bit of a pain since bobby pins don't work on my hair + it's wavy so I look like a witch

Is there a name for this cut of dress that's like the Holy Lantern OP? I'd really like to find others of this type, and I saw some in the dream dress thread, but I don't know how to go about searching for them...

This place seems to sell a boatload of loliable hats. You'd still have to customize them but still...

That looks like a trapeze cut dress, but I'm not completely sure? Similar cuts in lolita, specifically AP, are Cosmic and Wrapping Ribbon.

Thank, anon. I'd guess it would probably come just below my knees then, which is perfect.

I think it's silly to describe her as your friend and not be upfront about your intentions. If she is your friend then she would understand. If you were her friend you would sell it to her.

What i understand from your post is that you want to maintain your image of being a good friend this person maybe friend group without being one. You don't owe anyone else a dress because they want to buy it but if this a true friendship you would take your friend's feelings ahead of a few measly bucks.

If they really are a friend then you do owe your friends consideration for their feelings.
