We had a fragrance thread a couple of months back and I thought it was pretty nice, maybe we can do it again?
For lolitas, do the scents you choose depend on what style you're wearing or do you have an everyday scent? Do you find that your tastes in fragrances match up with your tastes in clothing?
For cosplayers, do you ever pick a certain perfume that you think fits your character well when you're cosplaying?
I use pic related a lot and I love it, but I'd like to start collecting more perfumes.

I wear Gothic, but I like sweet smelling perfumes.

Admittedly, I'm cheap when it comes to buying, so I get Bath and Body Works a lot. Their Pink Chiffon smells wonderful, and I'm also partial to their Sweet Pea and citrus scents.

I've been on an online spree with indie perfume oils recently, mostly ZOMG Smells from Seattle.

Gothic lolita: Othello from BPAL, Master Ball Ancient Musk from Fizzy Fairy Apothecary, Kuiper Belt Objects Unite in Vengeance from ZOMG Smells.

Classic lolita: Rose in Amber from ZOMG, Hatshepsut's Beard from ZOMG, Tea by Simpatico

Sweet lolita: Baby Unicorn Birthday Party from ZOMG

I don't know if this is true for anon's boyfriend but some people are super sensitive to fragrances. It runs in my family. Often when people around me wear too much perfume or deodorant my airways close up and tears start streaming down my face and I need to leave the room to keep from making a scene. It's not even like these people are dousing themselves in it, two sprays are already too much for me. Changing rooms are hell on earth.

I'm so envious of people who can wear/be around perfume and enjoy it so I'm going to monitor this thread and live vicariously through you.

My to-go is Night of Fancy by Anna Sui. I tend to buy things that I like in bulk, so I got like 5 bottles when I decided I like it. Which is a good thing, because I think Night is limited edition. I guess once I run out, I'll use the Flight of Fancy, which is nice, I guess, but I really prefer Night.

They are actually, it's just another selling point. A lot of people buy things just for the packaging.

I can't for the life of me find a perfume for wimmin that smells foresty and minty instead of sweet and flowery, and men's are too musky and smell either like an old professor or a bona fide douchebag. I like sweet scents on other women and it makes me think of my nice aunt, but on me it just doesn't fit and it makes me feel ill after a while.

Closest I got was Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea because my mother-in-law uses it by the gallon and brings some to me as well, but it goes away after an hour and still has a bit of sweetness to it (which isn't too bad but I could do without). Pls halp, I want to smell like an autumn pine forest without having to wear a car freshener around my neck.

Vera Wang Princess... it's a strange perfume to me. I remember wanting it so bad because the bottle was so pretty and I loved the name but the smell was... not so good. Fast forward a few years, the liquid is a brownish color, probably from age and the horrible heat in my house during summer months.

Now that perfume smells like pure heaven. Some perfumes smell a lot better with age like Princess and Ralph Lauren's Romance from what I've experienced.

I'm pretty cheap myself.

I enjoy floral scents for daily wear and lolita alike, but judge my quality of perfume based on how well I'm dressed/what I'm going out to do. If I'm just wearing normalfag clothes, I'm good with Bath & Bodyworks Black Amethyst lotion + unscented deodorant for the day.

If I'm in classic lolita/dressed well for another reason, I wear Belle Chérie by Fragonard. The bottle I got in Paris was part of a pack I split with friends, so it only cost me around $40 for 30ml.

When I'm wearing something like dolly/mori kei, I tend to avoid the florals and go towards more natural scents. Often just lavender oils or something similar. We have lots of lavender where I live.

Not all long-lasting perfumes are super expensive, anon.

Perhaps try Fragonard? They're mid-range price, simple bottles (you're not paying for the bottle, you're paying for the perfume), last forever (which is nice if you won't be wearing it all the time), and the scent itself can last all day.

But the other anon was right. Body sprays and the like aren't made to last. If you do like using those/roll-ons, just get one in a small enough bottle to carry around in your bag to reapply.

Anon, try Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab scents? They're cheaper than brand perfumes, but also maintain a great all-day scent. I've been wearing Samhain 2013 for 10 hours now, and I'm still getting whiffs of it. It is Halloween captured in a perfume oil.
Nosferatu is also a great gothic scent, and I usually don Bordello and La Belle au Bois Dormant for lolita.

Another trick is to apply baby oil before applying the perfume too.

I am inclined to powdery and sweet perfumes.
My latest addition is Chance Eau Tendre by Chanel. Really flowery and soft fragrance that lasts.

Other perfumes I own are:

>Cheeky Alice by Vivienne Westwood. Really powdery and long lasting. I don't think she makes it anymore, which is a shame.

>Kenzo Amour. My favorite. Really sweet, also lasts a lot. I also think they discontinued this one and it breaks my heart. Has notes of vanilla, wood and cherry blossom.

>Poison by Dior, really strong scent. The whole Poison line is really strong and long lasting, even the day after when I shower, I still smell like perfume. This one I don't really use because it's not my cup of tea. Somewhat sweet and spicy, with wooden notes. It's definitely for women who love strong scents.

>DKNY Delicious Night. This perfume was made for partying at night, which explains why it's so strong. Kinda fruity and citric in its notes, since its theme is night life, it also lasts a fucking lot.

>Bebe Sheer, smells like baby prostitute. Shit was like $9. Would not really use again. I still have the twist 'n spray. Gave away the bottle.

Other perfumes I owned were:

>Armani Code. An amazing scent. I loved it. Has jasmine notes. It's really elegant, lasts a moderate amount of time. I'm planning to buy it again.

>Armani Diamonds. It's a really mature and flowery fragrance that I honestly could never get used to. Doesn't really seem to last a lot.

>Hypnotic Poison by Dior. Super sweet and super strong. Fairly cheap [I think the medium sized bottle was like 90 bucks or so]. Lasts til the next day.

>Ralph by Ralph Lauren. Hated it. Fruity in a bad way, kinda citric and floral. I hated everything about it, but it's also a cheap perfume.

>Chanel no. 5. It's perfect, end of.

>Coco Mademoiselle. A really mature perfume. Would recommend if you're into strong and mature fragrances. Floral notes, not too sweet.

I-I'm s-sorry for being too descriptive.
I just love perfumes so much ;_;

For simple daily wear I just use Body Shop's Vanilla perfume because it's not too heavy or cloying but it lasts all day.

Dressing up a little bit for classic or sweet lolita, I prefer using Jennifer Aniston's Lolavie which has a mix of floral and fruity scents and again, it's nice and light and lasts for ages.

Evening and classic or gothic coords I prefer Prai's Scent of a Woman - Nights. It's a more sophisticated scent than some of my perfumes and can be a bit overpowering so I'm careful about how much I use. It's got a more smoky scent which I'm going to guess is from the sandalwood and musk together.

Then there's Dolce & Gabanna's Rose the One which is REALLY strong when straight out of the bottle, but once you've let it sit for a while it fades to a much more bearable level and is lovely in the end. I pretty much only use this for formal dinners and the like because it's just really too fancy for daily use for me.

>I've been looking for one I like for a while, but it seems like whenever I sample them in stores the air is so dense with fragrance I can't actually tell what it smells like.
If you're going to buy a perfume, ask if they have coffee beans to smell, or bring your own.
That clears your nostrils and lets you smell the perfume better. It's also good for when you're testing a lot of perfumes. The smell can get too overwhelming so coffee "resets" your sense of smell.

>That or I like a fragrance in store, but when I get home it smells different.

Most likely because the perfume is on its final notes. Usually when you're buying a perfume, you get to smell the first and heart notes, but not the final ones. This is why perfumes smell different when the heart note has faded.

I suggest that when they spray perfume on your wrist, let it dry for a couple of minutes so you can smell the final notes and see if the perfume convinces you.

As for making my own perfume, I've considered it, but I have no patience to gather all the ingredients and experiment with the quantities to get a perfume I like. Too much work.

Are you sure you're not just getting used to the scent? After a while you get used to it and don't smell it anymore. If you put on so much that you keep smelling it the entire day then there's a chance you're suffocating everyone around you. My aunt does this, as well as someone who lives in my apartment complex and leaves the elevator practically unusable every morning.

This is the best and easiset way for me:

Spray/soak it onto something else, eg- a piece of facial cotton. Then tuck it someplace next to your skin, eg- tuck it into your bra. Your skin heat will release the scent over time, but since it's soaked into a cotton ball, it doesn't dissipated as quickly as on skin (in addition to heating up, skin sheds, and the pores release sweat and moisture into the air, along with the precious perfume).

You can spray it into your clothes as well, but be careful that it may cause discoloration, and certain notes may not fade in the wash and can make your whole laudnry load smell weird (it will never smell like the perfume. The top notes go very quickly so the only scents that stain are the artificial oils and certain particularly oily base notes).

This also works for particular perfumes that don't seem to have any lasting power, eg Calvin Klein's Sheer Beauty

Tocca Florence is my current holy grail fragrance.
I'm usually classic so it's great for that. Gardenia with bergamot undertones.

I also use Moroccan Rose from the body shop, Vanilla from there also.

I have a bunch of assorted rose scents I've picked up from Japan and elsewhere that I sometimes layer if I feel like wearing rose; but I find that Tocca lasts very well and as soon as I smelt it, I knew it was mine.

Because chemically synthesized fragrances just make all of you smell like cheap whores.

Once you adapt to not using artificially scented products, even scented laundry detergent gives you a headache.

Not everyone exposes themselves to synthetically designed scents, so they're often offended. I can detect fake fragrances from six feet away and it's repulsive.

I used to love cheap shit, until I stopped using it. I can do essential oils, but rarely perfumes.

Perfume and antiperspirants are modern day commodities that aren't even used world wide.

You forget that not everyone will smell badly without them. A lot depends on genetics, skin biome, and what you eat.

If a man wants to smell homeless, that's his prerogative, and yet people get just as offended as I do when you smell like you rolled around in cheap perfume.
It's probably a lot to do with wearing too much. One squirt is enough.

This so much. Perfume is meant to be smelled up close, not from the other side of the room. Honestly, part of the problem seems to be that the people wearing it get used to it/have their sense of smell dulled by it, so they pack it on, forgetting that other people can smell it perfectly fine.

Your type are embarrassingly entertaining, you know that?

The girls who don't wear makeup while throwing shade at those who do.

The girls who don't use a brand product or anything not "natural" enough for them, throwing shade at girls who use their opposing products.

The girls who don't wear perfume, yet bother to throw shade at those who choose to do so.

The funny thing is that nobody gives a shit if you don't wear perfume the same way nobody ever gives a shit about the girls who aren't wearing makeup or washing their faces, but you will always see someone like you making it into some sort of crusade in order to feel superior. You remind me of those really cliche, truly pathetic after school specials from the 90s where it was common to shit on "girly girls". I got this fairly recently online after smelling the sampler in a magazine a year ago. It's kind of a disappointment really.. It's not a punch of berries and sandalwood that I caught from the sampler. I'm catching more of the vinyl notes I think? It kind of smells like flowery lipstick.

I love this fragrance.
It reminds me of the first fluttering of romance between me and my boyfriend whenever I put it on, and that was six years ago.
I know how cheesy that sounds, but really, I have no other way to put it.
I remember the day vividly, I remember how I felt, the thoughts in my head, the pedantic conversation I had with the clerk that suggested it (of all things).
For me, with my very weak memory, it's truly special whenever I wear it.

It's a crisp bright floral that has a vivid Jasmine top note with citrus in the middle and a base of musk and sandalwood.
It has other tones, but these are the most notable in my experience with it. It has retained it's color and profile remarkably, but then again I keep it safe.
It's a casual day wear fragrance, but I'll often use it no matter the hour since I consider it my signature scent.

Daw thank you!

So from what I know of fragrances, each perfume is a combination of essential oils mixed with an alcohol base to keep them from separating.
A note refers to an individual oil/scent used.
A perfume has three stages of life, the top or head, which is the immediate impression you get, the middle or heart, which is what lasts, and the base or finish, which is mostly the heavier scents that balance the rest of the perfume, the most common I'd say is Musk based, and can linger.

Pic related represents the varieties you can find from perfumes, Blue for instance falls between floral and fresh.
>Top Note: Lotus, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, pink peony and gardenia. Middle Note: Rose de Mai, tuberose and orange blossom. Base Note: Sandalwood, musk, ambrette seed vetiver and oakmoss

Oh, I forgot to mention that the Master Ball Ancient Musk by Fizzy Fairy Apothecary is also a solid perfume. It much softer and easier to spread than the Simpatico tin. It feels like there's more oil than beeswax, while the Sympathico feels like more beeswax than oil.

How to use solid perfumes and perfume oils without it getting it all over you: use very little in one application, and use it on your pulse points which won't brush on clothing. Behind the ears, throat, and wrists.

Perfume oils contain a higher percentage of fragrance oil than alcohol-based perfumes. Alcohol-based perfumes also contain fragrance oils, but they're dissolved in alcohol for easier application via a spray bottle.

This is the graph:

Eau Fraiche, or aftershave (Usually 3% or less perfume oil)

Eau de Cologne (2 - 5% perfume oil)

Eau de Toilette (4 - 10% perfume oil)

Eau de Parfum (8 - 15% perfume oil)

Soie de Parfum (15 - 18% perfume oil)

PARFUM or Perfume (15 - 25% -- also sometimes referred to as extract or extrait)

Perfume oil (15-30% perfume oil in an oil rather than alcohol base)

For indie perfume oils, almost all brands will sell only online, and their 1mL sample bottles are the only way to try their scents. The nice thing is that the sellers will usually include descriptions of what each scent contains.

Depending on the shop, the sample 1mL bottles go for around $3-$4 each. If you're careful not to spill them, each of the 1mL sample bottles can be used for 20+ applications.

Some customers resell on eBay the samples they didn't like, or sometimes full bottles. I once got a full 5mL bottle of Dr. ZOMG's Superlative Polytonic Mira-balm for $5 plus shipping.

Occasionally, an indie brand will get a booth at a convention, and you can go to town with trying their samples without paying a cent (not factoring in the cost of the convention pass, of course).

The list here is pretty good for those types. >>7865628

I've only used The Body Shop out of the entire list, though. Their discontinued Sun Glow perfume lasted all day for me. Their Atlas rose scent seems to fade after a few hours, as do their body mists, but mists aren't really designed to last long to begin with. Peach and raspberry are the best ones, but the strawberry one smells way too sweet. Most people favor that one and moringa.

I'm the Amouage girl, I got a sample of Agonist The Infidels from Luckyscent on a whim. The blown glass packaging is lovely, but I can't justify the juice for that price.

Ah! Infidels is my favorite. I kinda like all of their smells, except vanilla marble which overpowered me with the sweetness after a few tries. Got some samples of infidels and black marble from my mall. I'm Swedish and live in Stockholm, so I guess they're locals.
No, of course. The glass sculptures are for collectors and rich nerdy perfume people.

Okay so, taking a chance here.
I have decided to buy a new perfume, and after a couple of hours I found two possible candidates.

The first one is Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme, and the second is the Intense version of the former.

I looked at the notes and there are different, but the overview of the Intense version said that it was just a stronger version of Pour Femme.

My question is, is there any real difference between the two?
I really hope someone can answer this for me ;_;

I've only seen them for sale on ebay and amazon.

It's a wonder I haven't see them once in any dealer's room.

scents for guys that arent the typical "manry man" smell and aren't /fa/ $400 levels? i currently use beyonce heat, and it's pretty nice but i was just wondering if there were any other options.

What kind do you like? Try Penhaligon's, they're unisex but a lot of them are more for men than women imo. I like English Fern, but Opus is one that some describe as a "posh gentleman" smell. Order some samples from luckyscent and try them out!

I like warm woody smells, but not in the way most men's fragrances use them (aka beat you over the head whilst screaming A MAN IS IN THE ROOM DO YOU SMELL HIM HUH DO YOU DO YOU YEARN FOR HIS MANLY MUSK). the main fragrances I use are the aforementioned beyonce heat, LUSH's euphoria, and CK one for slightly more formal events, and I havent really expanded past that since every time I go to buy something, salespeople insist that i MUST be buying for a female acquaintance and I MUST buy the most sickly sweet floral thing ever, before believing me and steering me towards the MAN section.

I think I'll try out luckyscent, thanks!

I love the Givenchy Pi series. It's very warm, and is probably my favorite men's scent.

I can't into fragrances. Most of the time I just wear unscented everyhing so I won't fuck up. I have samples of Paco Rabanne's Ultraviolet and Givenchy's Play for her and they smell gorgeous to me, but I don't know much more. I wear Gothic.

I'm a Sweet Lolita of the "OMG this is ageplay !" kind and yet I wear L'heure Bleue from Guerlain. I look 13 and smell 50. It's the only perfume that really suits me. Sweet fragrances always end up smelling like piss on me. It's expensive though so for when I'm in lazy casual mode, I got myself a bottle of Patchouli from Reminiscence.

I am very sensitive to fragrances so now I just wish I could meet you all just so I could recognize you by your perfumes

Check antique stores. Usually the perfume bottles nowadays aren't reusable (they seal the top so that you can't unscrew it).

Ok, I'm back. I didn't get much time as they were closing and I didn't try any on me, but this is what I got from the paper slip samples:
Both fragrances are very easy to like. Sweet, floral, light. The notes are indeed a bit different, but I cannot distinguish a certain difference between them on first whiff. I know they're different perfumes, but that's it. Same category, same concept.
Perhaps the intense version is a bit more "green" in a tangerine, neroli type of way. The real difference will probably reveal itself on your skin, an hour after appliance.
The best way to describe intense in comparison to the original to me is that it's heavier, more plant part-y/earthy than flowery, even though it's not earthy at all like other perfumes. It's still a light, sweet scent... If you know what I'm sayin?

You could try different ouds and woody scents out.
I like tralala by penhaligon a lot. All three in the monocle series by Comme des garçons are nice, but not very warm, more woody.
Tam dao by diptyque really stands out too.

I wear Adamus by Possets, and it's marketed for men I believe. It's by far my favorite scent, and definitely masculine without being overpowering.

I'm about to put in an order of samples from Alkemia. Does anyone have experience with them?

Oh God, thank you so much for this! I totally understand what you mean.
The pink one has sweeter notes than the red one, but my concern was precisely the tangerine notes and the heaviness.

This helps me a lot. Thank you!

I'm allergic to cheap perfumes. Usually I sneeze or feel sick around them (I really hate those people who cover themselves in cheap Victoria's Secret perfumes...).

Dot by Marc Jacobs is nice. It doesn't smell cheap and the scent isn't overbearing. Plus the bottle is cute.
