Tips, tricks, product recommendations/questions, etc.

I've just started to get more into make up and now I'm trying to determine my skin undertone. The vein trick isn't working, and all I know is that I look better in deeper colours, and best in bordeaux and black, while pastels make me look ill (though dusty pink looks good on me). Gold jewelry looks better on me than silver though silver still looks decent. According to this it sounds like I have a yellow undertone, but for some reason I think I might actually have a neutral one. I don't know.

>> No.7852417

Sounds exactly like me and I'm warm/yellow. I'm also super pale though, so 'warm' foundations make me look jaundiced and I tend to go for neutral shades instead.

Two questions, pic related for both. I am not as washed out as this makes me look, the lighting here is just really terrible. I'm super pale with pinkish undertones.

1) I have serious problems getting eyeliner to stay on my waterline. It's rather large, and my eyes are pretty sensitive even after a few years of wearing makeup, so they tear up really bad whenever I try to put anything on there.

2) I have massive terrible eyebags. I can usually hide the color of them with concealer (which I'm out of right now), but the puffiness never goes away regardless of how much sleep I've gotten (they're genetic, mother has them too).

Product recommendations for both? I'm making a trip to Sephora soon. My skin is really oily, and I'm prone to acne, so any face cream recommendations need to take that into account. Thanks!

I feel like it's slightly more necessary for dramatic eyeliner looks? I'd be more than happy to be wrong there, but I need to shape my eyes to look more like pic related. If it's not necessary though then I'll forget it and stick with the liquid I currently have, since I like it.

WTF? First of all, from that pic it doesn't look like anon was wearing eyeliner on her waterline, it's clearly under it on her lash line. Second of all, wearing liner on your waterline is the generally accepted thing to do since it looks weird having that fleshy gap there if you put it below it. Samefagging but if you really must put eyeliner there and if you're going for a dramatic effect, it looks 1818x better if the eyeliner is a neutral color or even white. With black, dark brown, or gray, it's inevitably going to smudge and look a mess. I used to wear eyeliner like a damn raccoon but realized getting that shit on my contacts wasn't cute.

The lady I talked to there also recommended this marc jacobs gel-pencil-thing (it twists up, I don't know what to call it), so I'll do some tests with it and see how it goes. Worst case I've just gotten a gel liner.

Liner on the waterline just makes eyes look small and squinty, especially if it's applied all the way to the inner corner. It only works in the very outer corner to give the appearance of lift.

I have the same problem on my upper lids and honestly I think it's just thin skin and there's nothing I can do about it. My eyelids have always looked like this so it's not an aging issue. Firming eye cream doesn't help (but I use it anyway).
Both lids often have double or even triple creases and the way they crease depends on whether I'm wearing any products there, whether I just woke up, whether I'm hydrated or not. Eyeshadow primer makes it a lot worse. I've considered eyelid glue or tape to make the crease stay put but I worry that tugging at the skin will damage it and give me droopy lids faster.

Good on the coverage front and the brand is developed for sensitive skin so they're very conscious of ingredients, but I'm not sure if the palest tone would be pale enough for you.

Note: I can't vouch personally for any of these; I've used loose powder for years (Make Up Forever Super Matte Loose these days). It works well for evening out my redness-prone pale skin. If you'd be willing to try loose powder, the palest shade could be an option for you.

"Western" noses (upturned with a weaker "root", and a bump/strong bridge) can potentially become more button-like but only to a degree, otherwise you risk your nose cartilage collapsing or being rekt and having difficulty breathing... or something along those lines. If you have a typical arab nose with a strong root not much can be done about that, but it'll look very elegant when the whole ordeal is over.

Sorry if I got some terms wrong, I can into English even less than into space.

To be honest, drastic nose jobs never look good. You might look worse because maybe a really small nose wont fit your face. A good plastic surgeon will try to make it look as normal as possible because he wants your nose to fit with the rest of your features.

Also, more drastic of a change, more work that will need to be done. It will up the price, for me, I was quoted a bit over $9000 for a natural looking nose job.

There are varying levels of change, just because you want something "more" drastic it doesn't necessarily mean that you're going full michael jackson mode, just that you don't want it to look almost the same.

I do agree that truly drastic nose jobs, where you are trying to completely change the shape of the nose (I don't mean just removing a bump), do tend to look awful.

There's really not a definite way to use foundation.
Some people prefer brushes because it gives them better coverage; others, like you, fingers.

For the longest time I applied shadows with brushes but then switched to fingers because it gives me better control of how much I'm applying on my lids.

I used to use my fingers for foundation but switched to a sponge because it makes me feel like I have better coverage on my face.

It all boils down to preference.

Can I ask a question about hair here? I didn't see a hair care thread...

I'm thinking about getting bangs again as I grow out my hair since shit looks spectacularly boring but I'm having a shitload of trouble finding a good picture of what I'm wanting. Closest I can find right now is this picture of T.Swift.

Basically I want them to taper down in my longer hair but to not be super heavy (as in blocky) or too thin and looking stringy. I don't want a Zooey Deschanel deal where half the top of my hair is bangs, I'd like them to be a rather small part of my hair, if that makes sense. I also don't want them blunt but to where they look choppy. How would I go about describing that to my stylist along with showing her this picture? I trust her, but I've had a lot of bad experiences with previous hairdressers totally misinterpreting what I ask for and then ending up with thick block bangs that take over half my face and chop off a good deal of my face-framing length.

I'm asking because no matter which one I buy it always looks darker on me and I'm not even one of those "le super pale :DDD" people, just your average basement-dweller chic as far as skin tones go.

So far Etude House has been the closest but if I remember correctly they had a bit of a cool tone to it and I'm yellow myself.

So essentially, you just want it to have a really gentle arch over your face.
If this is not sufficient, then consider drawing it yourself and showing the stylist.
Look like a tard for one moment or look like a tard for many.
Also, if you have thin hair this is not going to look at all like you plan, I dearly hope you understand that. If you have thicker hair, it's doable, even if it takes the stylist extra time to layer it properly.

I heard that Skin79 Green broke many people out so I'll try the missha one first. Is it pink toned or more on the yellow side?

I tried the following:
-It's Skin Babyface BB, tad dark and greyish-toned
-Etude House BB, can't remember the name but it was their first and original one. After that they changed the formula to Bright Fit/Cotton Fit and I tried both but they were worse. Too pink.
-Holika Holika Petit BB (moisture and clearing), way too dark
-Holika Holika Petit Jelly, acne
-Lioele Water Drop BB, too pink

I could go on but the point is the ride never ends.

Missha #13 is a bit greyish-yellow. I have yellow undertones myself and it works well for me.

Honestly though, if you have an "average white person skin tone" then you shouldn't have any problems finding something light enough. Most other white girls I know use shades like Missha #21 and #23 which is like NC20-25, and I often see them complaining about how bb creams are all impossibly light. I don't know why I never thought of mixing white into my foundation before, I'm as pale as they come and no foundation ever looked good on me.

I will also use Ben Nye clown white on occasion, if I want a thicker consistency (like for cosplay if I'm broken out) But for day to day use, the MP is great. It's really changed the way I feel about my makeup (and it's only like $11 on amazon + lasts 5ever because I'm only using a tiny bit)

Yes. It's probably the best and most natural way to make your teeth whiter. It's also a common ingredient in natural toothpaste.

You could probably brush once a day with it, and use regular toothpaste the rest of the time. It's very important to continue to use regular toothpaste as baking soda will not kill the bacteria in your mouth. While it can be abrasive to your enamel if you use it too much, it's probably the least detrimental of whitening possibilities.

Best BB cream I have ever used.
Pale enough for me, am Asian/Italian mix, white as fuck.
Highly recommend for girls like me who are too light for Etude and Western brands are too dark.

Whenever I use foundation, my skin reacts as though I just rubbed it with potato chips andbacon grease. I've tried many sorts of foundations, including skin clearing and "light" foundations. Even BB creams do it to me.

What the fuck can I do? Is there a super light foundation for sensitive skin that I can try?

I also use this with Skin Food's peach sake finishing powder.

I was just looking at their skin care line- have you used any of it? If so, was it any good? I'm a little skeptical about the soap-free thing, but it looks really cool.

Layer or mix it with another lipstick/gloss/balm for a less harsh but equally fun/unique colour imho. Everytime I have uncertainties regarding a lip colour that's what I end up doing at least

Actually, check out the "Chinese spoon technique" facial massage on Youtube, it helped me out a lot
