Have you ever actually gone to a /cgl/ meetup? How did it go? How are your local anons?

>> No.7845443

I've gone to two for Texas, both back when I was under 21, so I would sit there and try to say hey to everyone and then only interact with the people I already knew from outside cgl, and then they'd all go off drinking and I'd go to sleep. Since then, cgl has decided they hate me, so I don't go anymore.

>> No.7845448

I went to one, but I sperged out because I'm socially anxious. I need someone to approach me and say 'hi' or I can't do it.

I helped run one a couple years back in Little Tokyo. After we had ramen there we went to Rowland Heights for the shaved ice, then to the Round 1 at Puente Hills mall for games and purikura. Everyone was incredibly nice and fun to hang with.

legit interested in having a Texas one again. Think there'd be any interest, or would it have to be during akon or matsuri?

>> No.7845480

I went the one at ACEN in 2012. We split up after we talked a bit and I hung out with some other cool seagulls and went to a room part. I had a lot of fun. Last year the meet up didn't really work so hopefully we can be better organized in 2015. I think the issue is that people are confused were to group up. We have a particular area but the timing is always off or we don't recognize each other. I propose some sort of signage for the 2015 meet up.

>>7845478
I feel like the current Texas seagull crowd is just full of people you wouldn't want to interact with. Our last Texas general thread was enough to solidify that for me.
But in actual answer to your question, I think if you did either Austin/San Antonio or Dallas/Ft. Worth you would get a decent response. I know a majority of the Texas seagulls are from those two areas.

>> No.7845498

Been to meetups both at texas cons at at Otakon.

The texas cons have always been pretty strange tbh; I'm cool with a couple of the people I've met there, but I had a far better time at the Otakon meetup, even though I didn't know a single person there before I went.

Maybe it's just me getting older, hell if i know.

I've gone to a few. The Fanime ones a while back were pretty fun, but there were kind of a lot of guys throwing spaghetti everywhere. This is why I drink first. I know there's usually another cgl meet at Fanime at least where the chiller people get invited. I was going to go to it, but then got too drunk to remember the room number. Whoopsies.

I also went to one with the random anons near me that went to this tiny con a few years back. Super chill. They were obviously uncomfortable by how yaoi obsessed, greasy, and disgusting one of the former trips was (she didn't post many pictures, but I knew her personally, so).

SakuraCon was the last one I went to and there were quite a few trips. It was pretty fun.

I went to one at a fairly large Canadian convention in 2012 and I still hang out with the people I met there to this day. At the time, I knew absolutely no one in the cosplay community and was socially awkward at the time but I figured if I kept the spaghetti in my pockets and presented myself properly, it was worth a shot to meet people with similar interests. I don't think I would have a quarter of the convention acquaintances/friends I have today if I didn't go to that meet up.

That was last year's Otakon. This year's was fun, but you can really notice the shift in gender attendance. Reasons vary from people from last year not making it or thread drama i.e "The thirst" being rampant. It was cute seeing 5 guys crowding around the only gals that showed up.

Katsucon is pretty okay too, good handful of folk show up and usually the few that stick around go get a bite to eat.

>> No.7847021

>>7846990
Figured. Guys that barely post will flood the meets because grills. Girls will be wary of attending because a. meets will 100% involve pictures that will end up back on /cgl/, which has almost never led to anything good for anyone involved b. if they're part of a lolita/jfashion group odds are good their comm is already planning something for whatever con the meet's taking place in c. you have no idea what specific mix of awful you're going to get at a 4chan meet.

Point A isn't always true. Most of the meets I've gone to haven't had pics taken that ended up an /cgl/. I think it's mostly trips that post them since they're all addicted to attention.

As an addendum to point B, girls already have tons of con friends no matter what, so going to a 4chan meet is a waste of time when they could be hanging out with people they already know. That ties into point C too. The guys that go on the other hand usually don't have as many friends so it's more worth it for them.

There was one at the first con I ever went to. I thought it would be kind of awkward, but I didn't expect to get bullied, basically, by girls that were like 5 or 10 years older than I was. I was in a costume of an original character of mine from a fan fiction that was basically Coraline as a Twilight vampire. I know it was kind of silly and I was pretty insufferable about everything, but I was also 13. The AX meetup was middling, they mostly meet up then go fuck off to watch LCS.

The D*C group is pretty cool but they like to go to this Waffle House that you have to walk through downtown to get to, and that kind of puts me off. Too many thugs and camping hobos for me.

I like the Otakon meetups the best, they go to a dive with an okay game room a couple blocks from the BCC.
