Is it because they see all these girls with well put together coords receiving tons of compliments and notes, so they equate the fashion with hopefully boosting their self esteem? And when they throw on something that doesn't quite match the aesthetic and recieve constructive criticism, the back lash is their misdirected anger? Basically "Where are my likes? I will admit my first attempts at lolita were fugly as shit. Hell, only a year ago I threw on a semi-decent outfit, but my hair and accessories threw it deep into ita territory. Y'all gave me awesome advice and I ran with it. I had (still kinda have) low self esteem, but not once did I call you guys haters or jealous bitches or any standard "can't take criticism" response.

I just don't understand these girls. Especially the ones who say we're all elitist bitches and rules aren't suppose to be enforced. It's a niche fashion; there are rules to make it so. If there weren't, it wouldn't be called lolita.

Reality check: I was awkward as fuck; probably let my ADHD go full autistic and that's what scared them off. I came on here, thin skinned, threw myself into the lions den and came out stronger. If I can survive you guys, I can survive almost anything.

I'd be willing to wager most of these girls received the same counseling I did. That's why they can't take criticism for shit.

Basically we were told over and over that it's NEVER us. I wore alt clothes in middle & high school and was aware that people were dicks for that reason but when I was "normally dressed" before that I got crap too. And it was never me unless it was from my family (that's a while nother story). Truth is I poorly socialized as a child and horribly anxious and it put other kids off. I like drawing. I do it for myself personally. I suck at drawing though so I don't post my drawings online, they're just for me. I don't care to improve at it because it's for my own purposes, to relax or to get some thought down on paper. If I wanted to improve or get help, I would post online, because there is some reasonable expectation that, if you are an artist, and you put your things out in public, you are open to feedback. I see certain fashions as art forms and think they have the same unspoken "rules" about them and I'm clearly not the only one. I wouldn't post my crappy drawings online, and then announce to everyone that I was only posting to show off my creativity and don't want any help. Why post it then? It doesn't make any sense and just seems really juvenile.

Yes, decent coords do take practice and it is an art form in a sense, but to a newb, lolita is basically just putting on clothes, so unless they put a cutsew on their legs it seems like they cant do it badly right?

Well ... wrong-ish. Making polished coords takes practice. If you've never made a pot in your life you can expect to fuck it up on your first try, but people wear clothes every day, getting dressed is easy, fitting into lolita style is not, but its still just getting dressed at the end of the day. Thats probably why they expect to be great at it since getting dressed is nothing new, but the style is pretty picky, thats wherein the trouble lies.

Before I got into lolita, when I put on a dress I'd get people asking me if I were going to a party or to a wedding even if the dress was super plain and I was wearing it with flipflops. The first "lolita coord" I put together consisted of a regular blouse, a poofy handmade skirt, a petticoat, plain knee high socks and vaguely mary jane-ish flats. In the context of my regular environment I looked like a princess but in a lolita context I looked plain and frumpy. The bracelet isn't lolita, rock/gem bracelets rarely work for lolita. The flower crown doesn't match and animal ears (red panda ears, who cares) are notoriously ita; they can be worked but not in this case. And that belt belongs in a a casual office coord not a lolita coord. Belts rarely work and when they do it's usually only certain ones with classic or fancy ones with gothic. I guess this is more sweet than anything although it's really hard to tell. You can't just put a random belt, blouse, hair accessory and jewelry together with a poofy skirt and call it lolita. Nah. I've always found the main mod to be really nice. She's been into lolita for something like 10 years and really knows how to work with what she has.

The main mod (D) is pretty cool and nice. The other (C) has no fucking clue how to do anything and is constantly asking noob questions ("Is F+F okay?" "How do I order from IW?" etc.) which imo means she shouldn't be a fucking mod. Every time she asks a question I facepalm.
