I find that even the winter kigurumis are okay to wear until about 25°C. Perfect room temperature to wear them is like 18-22°C.

You know, just don't move around too much. They're made of fleece, so it literally feels like walking around with a snug fleece wrapped around you

Well that's the point, it's not a footed baby pyjama, it's okay to have limbs sticking out of it! I'm also around 6'4 and I usually get the medium-sized ones. but whatever they're a one-size fits all anyway, you'd need to have some crazy body not to fit in one

Most commissioners are charging like $100-150 for a full-custom kigurumi, with extra charges if you want more than 3 or 4 colours or with a big tail /wings /whatever.

I personally think it's a lot of money, seeing as an experienced sewer could honestly put a kigu together in well under an hour using a couple dollars worth of fleece. But well, I guess people want to pay up for it, and "custom" has become a synonym for "expensive" on the internet

I made my own kigu instead of buying one because of the price. I get paid about 20$ an hour at my day job, and if I was making a kigu for someone, and sold it for 100$, it would end up being, 35$ for materials, and then close to 12 hours of work. So, like 5$ an hour, all said and done. A kigu maker may as well tell you to stuff your 100$ up your ass and go work at McDonalds, for all it's worth.

People don't just shit out custom crafts, it takes time.

It took 12 hours partly because it was my first one, partly because of pattern drafting, as well as hand sewing details on the face and body. So an "experienced" maker could probably do it in 4?, plus whatever time for hand sewn details.

Hobby Lobby has shit fleece in like 6 colors, and rarely do they have the continuous yardage needed for the kigu body. I tried to get fleece there ONCE and ended up having to order the main color online to get the amount I needed, and then had to pay and wait for shipping.

JoAnns is the best place for fleece, they have massive selections on blizzard and anti pill (my preferred kind, but colors vary so I use Blizzard as needed), and have recently added "basic" fleece or something like that for like $3 a yard in a few colors. And at JoAnns either fleece is on sale or you're using one of their million coupons.

The cost depends a lot on the width of the fleece, for $3 a yard I would bet that you're getting the 45" or 60" which means you need to buy more yards, and the pile (fluffy stuff) is probably not the best quality.

$8-$12 is typical for wider (selvage to selvage) widths, although the berber polar fleece is sometimes 66" (officially 68" but there's about 1" to 3/4" of selvage on each side) starts around $14 a yard

Well I speak from experience when I say the first couple of times always take a lot longer than you think it will. With custom commissions this is a big problem, because custom basically means you're always doing everything for the first time.. but with practice comes perfection!

Dunno how fast you can ultimately make them, but you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Kigus follow a general design, with custom colours and custom details. At around $100 for a custom (+extra for more details) you're making a lot of money and you can still use the $40 good material instead of getting $10 of shit material.

At a con a while back there were so many dealers selling kigurumis. I didn't get (another) one because I didn't have enough cash on me, but later that evening during the J-pop disco there were so many people dancing in kigurumis, they must have overheated

I always want to get one but I can never decide on a style and I always flinch at the prices, I'd prefer a nice, high quality kigu but then those tend to run like $60, which isn't that much but then it's like "this is a mass produced pj why is this $60" I'll get it eventually, I know I will.

Yeah, you don't want it to be as tight as for other fabric (don't pull on it once it's in place either), but with stitches that close, you're basically embroidering at this point. So you'll want a stabiliser and a hoop (put the fabric in the opposite way you would if hand-embroidering) to keep things from warping.

Hey /cgl/

I just received a kigurumi by mail, and there was a price-tag still on it in Chinese.

I can't read all of it, but I think the company is called Hangzou Djuro, their series called "cosbus". It's a green-dragon kigu, the price says the shop-value should be 389 yuan, which is like 60 US dollars.. (wtf?)

I haven't worn it yet, so I'm not sure what the quality is like. I don't think it's fleece, it feels like microfiber, with a tiny bit of regular fabric for the arms and legs and inside of the hood. I'll post a picture later, I'm so happy about receiving this!

Someone drew a design in an old thread I think. Also it would be easy to make, in a shape similar to these. Sew or commission one!

I'd like the bat kigurumi if it didn't have a pig nose.

They sell at cons in the states, but they don't sell the Spyro one any more. (Maybe they will again in the future, maybe not)

>related note: Walmart has "Kigurumis", but their version is basically footless footie pajama's with a hood. For $10-18 a piece, I said fuck it and bought two. I cannot wait to get a true kigurumi now. OMG. I don't know why I didn't convert earlier.

footless and footed pyjamas are all right, I'm not sure if they're made of fleece though.. I have one that's made of jersey or cotton but definitely not fleece

anyway, footed/footless pyjamas are basically oversized baby clothing. Kigurumis are not baby clothing. I don't really like the whole infancy-adult thing that's currently going on, but hell I'll take it if it means I can wear my kigurumi to bed.

Not that anon, but what separates a kigu from footless pyjamas? Is it the material? The addition of a hood?

>> No.7848163

It has a hood, but also it's very loose fitting, come in a summer/shorts/shortsleeved version, and have a theme or character, usually animals. Footie pajamas are one-piece pajamas, too, yes, but there's no hood and it's a closer fit. Also footie pajamas are generally considered unfashionable, where kigus are pretty cutesy most of the time.

a kigurumi is different from a hooded one-piece pyjama by the design, loose fit, and material, as >>7848163 said.

Also, the origin, if that matters to you. Kigu is typical Japanese culture, whereas one-piece pyjama is typically American

kigus also characteristically have a super low drop crotch as part of the design, and often have arm holes that go halfway down your torso. I really should just get on to making a few that I have had in mind for a while, maybe I'll upload pictures but I have wanted to make a Wooper and Raichu kigu so the bf and I can be our favorite pokemons

What animals and characters does everyone have? I have trouble deciding.

Ah. Thanks. I wasn't sure if there was animal-themed onesies or not. Kigus sound comfier anyway.

I have
>Chi's sweet home kigu
>Rilakkuma light-coloured one
>Green dragon with the big tail

I don't really like the dragon one because the tail is really in the way when sitting and lying down. However, the chi cat kigurumi is so incredibly nice to sleep in I think. Rilakkuma is also really adorable.

I currently don't have much space, but I really want to buy more different kigu designs. I love it when I have a friend sleeping over and I can offer them a kigu to wear together, it's adorable
