Is anyone thinking of going to MCM comic con in London? I have a space in a room at the Novetel. The room has 2 double beds, so theoretically has space for four, but I've only been able to fill 2 other slots and have one left. It'll be three guys, so another guy would probably be preferable. We're fucking 4chan nerds so we don't plan on staying up or being loud, room is just to get some sleep. We're splitting the bill 4 ways so it'll be £90. I think it's more that thy can expand. Sometimes you set a target number for coverage of costs. Say 250 people, so to guarantee the sales you go low so say 500 places. Once the low number sells out you can investigate expanding depending on the venue. Since cosplay ball isn't a large residential con there is. I way it will make enough money to be a tax threshold issue. So it could expand say 50 tickets or so easily. Probably also why they are announcing new acts recently. The money was there.

I liked the ball, people did make an effort. There were sound probs so nobody could here the string quartet but they were good. The entertainment was enjoyable. I would have liked the cabaret performance to be longer.
The venue is nice but those "bars" christ. One was a table with some Tesco lemonade and they both blatantly just served up stuff from the supermarket. Price wasn't too bad though.
I wish it had sold out as it could have done with a few more people, but it was an enjoyable event.

I would say about 250-300. One of my friends had ticket 323 which he bought Wednesday so no chance they sold out. I expect some people didnt bother turning up. The venue was over several floors and there were always people in the bar and stairs areas which may be why it looked empty from pictures. Seating areas were pretty packed, I reckon lots of people didn't want to dance.

The venue is gorgeous but with pisspoor facilities and it did feel rather too big for so few people. Had they had the full 500 it would have been just right.

I kind of wish someone would take the Dashcon ball pit meme and rather than making dresses or having paddling pools with balls in the corner actually invest in a deep ball put and a bouncy castle. Cause that would be hella fun. Perhaps not in a ball outfit but still.

We've had three cosplay balls now (admittedly run by different people) but in both cases there was literally fuck all to do but watch the entertainment.

Maybe rather than trying to do a ball it would be more fun to set up a festival type atmosphere with games. And then clear it later for dancing.

As lovely as the venue for the ball was and as nice an opportunity as it was to wear something nice and the alcohol wasn't that expensive which was nice and the entertainment was nice. £25 was a bit much for just nice.

Yeah I loved the relaxed atmosphere and managed to meet a few cosplayers I've always followed online but never had the guts to talk to and they were really sweet and chatty. I always love balls at conventions though as I like an excuse to wear fancy dresses! Facebook and social media has bread a generation that puts their every thought in the public domain.

Then they realised people were judging them for their posts. Putting them places like here and reddit for example so they started censoring themselves. Posting happy-clappy-hippy crap and vague status.

Then they realised they could have attention pages. To poor their ideal selves into and hope people will love them.

All of it is annoying. People are much better in the physical world than they are on facebook.

If you're friends with someone on facebook. It doesn't mean jack. If you don't see that person in the physical world. Then you don't know jack. Even then you probably don't know them. Because so many people present a facade until shit happens and cracks begin to show.

Most people want to be liked though. That's just a natural fact.

The /cgl meet for this thread at MCM is so shit that they don't do them anymore since like October last year if I'm not mistaken or at least for the MCM in London.

Also so far MCM has been losing more of it's quality like with the way the queues were being managed last May in London for example.

For me MCM expo is just a day off work/ holiday these days rather than an event that I expected a lot from.

Best way to enjoy the event is meet randoms on or around the grass after 5-6pm and onwards on the Saturday.

It is usually easy to find a group for chilling out with that is suitable to oneself.

If you're uneasy you might have a slightly better chance with meeting people hanging around the DJ as I found a lot of those people are actually easier to talk with than individual groups.

Of course we could always try a better way of arranging a meet if anyone doesn't feel like becoming a dictator (aka attention whore). :D
