I'm a messy hikikomori piece of trash so I can't have a cute room. I tried to make it kawaii but I'm such shit it's got garbage and clutter and clothes everywhere. I just want a cute room...

Nnngh. OPic is beautiful, but it's full of wonderful craft items that I just can't imagine utilizing when it's such a cluttered mess.

Iseriously can't tell if this is meant of be a practical craft desk or purely aesthetic.

I recently did a room tour video.. It includes my lolita wardrobe but I wouldn't consider my room to be a conventionally lolita/otaku room.

I started following unfuckyouhabitat on tumblr(thanks to somebody linking it in a previous thread.) It has a bunch of useful advice and before and after pictures of regular rooms. I recommend it for people who dislike to clean since it's geared more towards the average person who might only be motivated to clean for 20 minutes rather then towards people who have all day.

I do all my cleaning at night and days off since I work evening shifts and sleep during the day.

I just bought a house and I've got the entire top floor to myself, which includes a bunch of built in drawers and a desk. I want to male it the most kawaii princess room ever but I'm not really sure where to start. Other than a bed, freestanding rack for my lolita clothes, and the built in desk and bookshelves I'm really not sure what to do with all of the space. I'd like to turn part of the room into a sitting room/parlor room for me and my friends to hang out and have tea but I'm crap at interior decorating and I'm not sure where to start. Also the walls are blue - I feel like most lf the cute lolita/weeaboo rooms I see are either pink or neutral colored so I'm not sure how well blue walls would go with a bunch of pink decorations. You should only put things like this on display out in the open if it's something you use constantly. Moving them around a lot stops the dust from settling, and having them all out in the open makes it easier to get at them.

I recently picked up one of those hanging cubby things from Target - the ones meant for shoes - to keep my cardigans in. It works beautifully and keeps my knits from getting pulled by hangers, and saves me room in my pathetically small closet.

I also keep my stockings and socks in those cute boxes that look like books. Pretty sure I got that idea from some anon here. Whoever you are, anon, thanks!

I think in my future home, I'd have a kotatsu for the living room rather than the bedroom like I see in so many examples. Maybe Japanese interior design/residential architecture really works differently than in the West, but it would make sense to me to have a glorified coffee table like that for the living room.

I use blue tack but I condition it a bit first and roll it around my hands before sticking it up so it's less likely to grip onto the wall with all it's being and cause rips in paint later. I've also sometimes used rolled up tubes of masking tape but that doesn't work well in hot weather. I've got a couple of marks here and there but I know before I move out I'll be repainting some parts of the place anyway.

It's somewhat surprising considering the fact that we are both crazy long-limbed skinny spider-people. I also ended up buying one in Japan and shipping it back to my house here. You also don't have to use the heater underneath, so there's that.

I can't remember the exact amount because I was shipping boxes of clothes as well. (I didn't have much room in my luggage after a year over there) I used surface shipping though, which is considerably cheaper than any kind of air shipping. It totaled somewhere around ¥13,000, $130 for the kotatsu and my 20-25lb box of clothes/random junk. I have a friend who bought one off of amazon I believe and total with shipping was about $400-$450 or so.

Not sure if surface mail is more of a risk or anything, but the three times I've used it have been fine. I only see it offered online rarely though. It does take a few months to arrive I guess, so there's that.
Shipped to Missouri and it took about 2 and a half months. The longest I've waited was 3 months.

The top is essentially a heavy table top.
That goes on top of the futon/blanket, which is then sandwiched between the rest of the kotatsu. It's basically a coffee table that has a heavy, removable 2nd top. The blanket doesn't touch the heater whatsoever.

Well, you could consider picking up some boxes and repainting them or covering them with a cute printed paper. Or even consider looking into baskets from places like Target(like in pic related)

This is hopping off the basket suggestion but don't do Target for baskets, I recommend a store like Homegoods/TJMaxx/Marshalls or Tuesday Morning for baskets and cute boxes. The prices are lower and the quality tends to be better. Not to knock Target or anything but the baskets I get at Marshall's are always fantastic quality.

I also buy these fabric boxes from dollar tree and use them to organize my drawers. They have some shorter ones(like in the top left corner) I use them to divide up things like my tights and underwear. They also sell those clear style plastic shoe boxes. I bought a few of those and used them to sort my extra power cords and game controllers.

How does one deal with dust on things that aren't used? Like decorative items and such. other than the obvious "you dust them". I want to start collecting figures but haven't had much I've needed to dust before.

Are there ways to lessen dust build up so you don't have to do it as often? Do they collect less when they're in one of those glass cases? How often should they be dusted and should I be extra careful with certain kinds?

I have one nendoroid I purchased at a con last weekend and it was such a pain to get it posed the way I wanted. Snapping one thing into place would make me knock another thing out and whatnot. (and it was one of the poses they showed on the box too, what the hell) I have a feeling dusting that will be a pain... So if there ARE ways I can slow the buildup, it'd come in handy.

Get a glass case that does not have any openings in it to lessen the likelihood of the need to dust. If you do buy a glass case and you end up getting one with little bits of openings in them, cover the areas up.

Also getting an air purifier helps.

I like using a cheap blush brush for cleaning figs. If not in a case, I clean mine once a month. If they're in a case, I just look at them until they need it.

I also heard of using a hair dryer set on low and cool to blow the dust up then sweeping it up from the floor. I don't know if that would work on fragile items though

I got a neat porcelain deer planter that I'm absolutely in love with recently. I also have a small porcelain unicorn head that can be wall-mounted. Shit tons of china dishes and bowls as well that I use for jewelry. Old books also look nice, and make for interesting reads as well. I really like finding the old reader's digest books.

Also in decorating news, my parents took me shopping and replaced our crappy couch and bought us new dressers, and even bought us new bedding. I should display a couple of the teacups but I'd rather keep it safe until we move to a bigger place and I can properly display it. It was my grandpa's from the 60's that my mom let me keep. It was all in a cabinet above the fridge and she told me I could keep it if I cleaned the cabinet out. Everything was in good shape except the salt and pepper shakers were chipped up from regular use.

I'm not at the point in my life to be ready for a child yet, but my brother could be if he and his gf ever get engaged and have kids someday. I think it would be kind of fun to be that "quirky aunt".
