I've made knit bloomers but tbh the specific knit I used made them look shit. They sagged a bit, unlike the cotton or flannel I usually use, so it looked like a big adult diaper cover. It might be better with other knits, though. I'm sticking to flannel and cotton.

That being said, I can picture a really cute pajama/room wear set with knit bloomers.

Figured this is the best place to ask, but I'm trying to get more into lolita and build up a wardrobe but most of the dresses and blouses I find have 90+ CM and I'm an 80 CM bust.
I was wondering if any of you have dresses or blouses that are a bit bigger than your measurements and still look alright when worn?
I realize that 10 cm is too much, but would something like 5-6 CM too big work or look stupid?

>> No.7789691

>>7789672
I know this pain anon. I usually wear a heavily padded bra (one of mine can add at least five cm) so for those dresses at the higher end of the 80s that might help but I've found some of my dresses, especially those with full back shirring just sort of hang in an unflattering way or just plain don't fit nicely. If you stick to only partially shirred pieces with back lacing you'll probably have more luck. Good luck anon!

>> No.7789693

>>7789672
So the thing with lolita dresses that you have to remember is that they are by and large adjustable in size, and that often the stock measurements given are the garment measurements rather than the measurements of the person they are designed to fit, therefore you should be at least a couple of cm under the measurements anyway, if not 5-6cm. Remember that you will also probably wear a cutsew/blouse which can add bulk. Corset lacing will usually make a dress up to 10cm smaller anyway.
I have pretty much the same size bust and a lot of my dresses have stock measurements between 85-90cm but fit me fine because of corset lacing/shirring.

It usually isnt an issue, as most blouseds with that large of a max bust have corset ties and shirring to help you out. Avoid ones that dont but most things will fit you no problem.

If you still need a bit of help in the bust, >>7789691 is right with just getting a bra that has padding. That will fill in the gap. It wont give you a 10 cm boost but you will find it isnt a big issue.

Use an existing blouse and tell Bunny House you did so. Make sure you lay the blouse and tape out flat to get accurate measurements.

I had a friend who told me her shoulder measurement was around 90cm; turns out she was wrapping the measuring tape around her shoulders since she was having trouble measuring herself. I told her to use a blouse that she likes the fit of, and she came back with a more reasonable shoulder measurement of 47cm (she wasn't skinny, yeah, but no way is she 90cm wide in the shoulders

I hope not. I imagine that with the influx of Madonna flower headpieces and the general preference to headbows that maxi pad headdresses are simply pushed into the background - perhaps enjoyed by long-time lolitas who stick to or are returning to the old school styles they were familiar with, and those types of people don't usually seem to seek attention on their tumblrs; either they don't care or don't really have time for that sort of thing which makes sense as many are older lolitas who probably have a full-time job/career and/or even a family.

A little part of me wonders if mini-top hats truly died out or just worn by itas who don't know that it's not a thing anymore.

Question: If you attend an official brand teaparty, ofc it's common sense wearing main pieces of that brand to it. But what about accessoires? Shoes? Bags? Would it be worth the effort to offer commissions of these patterns for those who can't/don't have the effort to sew themselves?

The event should have a posted guideline of what they expect the attendees to wear but rule of thumb is try to incorporate the brand somewhere in your outfit to show support. I'm still waiting for the last two girls who asked this question to come back and tell us where they've opened shop; one said they were going to do downloadable pdf files of sized patterns, the other was debating buying a pattern printer. I'm one of the ones who said I can sew fine but pattern drafting is confusing and annoying to me, so I'd be down to buy a pattern if I liked the dress design.

Anyway, to recap, your main competition is otome no sewing, where you can get a mini wardrobe's worth of patterns for USD20-30 (shipping included), but the instructions are in japanese and the sizing is for flat, short people. You could stress English instructions, and/or sell single-outfit patterns (or even single item patterns) for less than USD20 as your selling points. Keep in mind that most lolitas who sew their own are usually budget lolitas, they won't buy the patterns if the price is too high.

General advice is that your market is not big, so don't put too much effort into it, you probably won't get enough demand to recoup the cost of a large format printer, and I'm not sure if grading patterns to individual measurements is worth your while. Better if you can get some standard measurements going, but include in your instructions how to make adjustments for things like wider shoulder width, longer sleeves, full bust adjustment. You can always offer to custom-adjust the patterns for your buyers as an extra, paid service on top of that.

Commissions of patterns: Do you mean you'll buy the fabric and sew up the patterns, like a sewing commission? You won't exactly be rolling in commissions, but there is always a demand for these, especially for blouses. Your competition would be places like Bunny House, the Floral Notebook, Anna House, Lady Sloth and F+F, so long as you can offer competitive choice/quality/price you'll do okay.

I'd say just sit/stand straight whenever you find yourself thinking about it. You can walk around with a book on your head for practice if you like, practice sitting with the book on your head, read books with a book on your head, use the computer with a book on your head, etc. Also, if you are keeping your back straight when you sit, try not to lean forward, which can be very easy (particularly when eating), and keep your back perpendicular to the floor. And to prevent yourself being lazy, remind yourself of all the back problems you're saving yourself from in later life, and proper posture can also prevent unpleasant things like haemorrhoids and minor rectal prolapse which can affect people at any age.

>> No.7795266

Take dance classes. Not ballet, but modern or ballroom dances. It'll help you with both posture and confidence.
And the book on your head is an actual thing, as >>7795240 said. Use it whenever you have a little bit of time at home. When you can't use it (outside for exemple), try to look slightly over your normal sight line to keep your head straight. When sitting, straighten you back and don't cross your legs (you can cross your ankles). Always put your shoulders slightly leaning toward your back, it'll make your neckline appear better, your neck longer and thus your all bust more elegant.

You can try searching lolibrary for drop waist jsks to look for. Just watch out for the ones that are actually salopettes instead of jsks.

As for brand, Angelic Pretty is the one brand that comes out with low-waisted jsks the most often. The good and bad news is that the low-waisted releases are usually without the border print (eg- Musee du Chocolat, Chess Chocolate, Tartan coat of arms something), so the secondhand prices for those versions are usually half of retail price and there's no fight for them (because they don't have the border print).

As far as indie brands go, many girls have complained about Haenuli bodices, but I'd advise you write in and ask her the details such as length of bodice, where the bust darts are placed and so on. Because girls have complained that the dresses are too long even for girls with long torsos, plus I'm not sure if she's actually going to shorten the torsos because of complaints.

There is more than one listing, so I see ones with XXL listed. xl is 15 inches, xxl is 17.5 according to them, and so the difference is pretty minor. It all depends on the skirts but you can say the typical skirt length is between 17-20 inches. If you are unsure, measure yourself to see where the petti would hit.

No,t hat is the only clearance one, but like the normal priced ones are cheap already so I dont see it as a big difference in price, 11 vs 20 is not a huge thing.

I dont think it will be that big of a deal, you may at most have to wear it a tad lower than the natural waist, and that shouldnt be a big deal anyways because A lines have the gradual poof. Obviously the 17 is better as it is closer, but its still fine. I find my 18 inch petti too long in some cases as it peaks out, but my shorter ones I dont find an issue on most stuff.

>> No.7796436

>>7796362

I have the exact same problem with the longer petticoats. I never wear them at my natural waist because I end up feeling really uncomfortable with the elastic, so I have to wear them a tad lower and they always peak out. So this shouldn't really be a problem.

11 vs 20 is not a huge difference, yes, so I'll think about it.

Does your coat have to match your coord? Coats are expensive, so if I can get away with one, that'd be great. Also, are brand coats worth it? If not, what woulld you recommend?

>> No.7796659

>>7796639
How matchy matchy are you thinking? Most people just go for a really neutral colour - eg: a plain brown coat for a classic wardrobe. Brand coats are quite nice but I'd never pay full retail for one. I live in a warmer climate and I own a black offbrand coat and a pink ETC coat. The latter came from Closet Child and it wasn't too expensive. Off brand coats can be nice as well, but long length coats aren't always designed to fit the poof of a petticoat.

>> No.7796669

>>7796639

It feels much better if it does match. I'd suggest putting together your legwear, bag and shoes, and then picking a coat that goes with most of those items -- once you put your coat on, those are the items that will be visible.

Brand coats -- it depends. They're very warm, properly made, good quality and really nice, but Japan winter is relatively mild. If you live someplace where you need snow boots, thermal underwear and jeans in winter, they won't be warm enough.

A while back, printed tights weren't a thing, so one of the arguments for OTKs is that brand makes OTKs with matching print patterns. Now, granted, if you were wearing something that was a little on the basic bitch side anyway, solid tights go with the toned down look. However, at some point girls were wearing solid tights with colourful printed AP dresses, the tights looked a bit too plain in comparison.

Another reason is that girls who sometimes had enough money to buy the dresses, but cheaped out on other things, like getting an office blouse and a pair of solid tights instead of a loli blouse and printed legwear. The result is that in some lolita's minds, tights became associated with cheaping out.

Third, tights come in different deniers (sheerness) -- and girls don't always pick the right ones. Some girls would pick white tights to match with white or pastels, but when worn, their skin colour would turn the tights beige or offwhite. Since their legs were no longer white, their coords looked dirty by comparison. You won't have this problem with socks (that aren't made of tights material).

There's a few shoes, certain chunky tea party styles and boots, for eg, that look really weird when paired with semi-sheer tights rather than opaque legwear. Some shoes (eg JetJ pumps) do look better without socks or with tights instead, but girls seem happy to shove sheer-tights-clad legs into the inappropriate shoes, so eventually someone will tell them to wear socks instead of tights.

All in all, if you want to wear solid tights, it's not really looked down on. Just make sure you're on top of your game balancing the busy areas of your coord with the emptiness on your leg, balance the colours so that your legs don't stand out too much from your coord while still being colour-matched, pick the right denier so that when you put it on it's not too sheer or too opaque, and make sure your shoes look better with tights than with socks.

And even longer ago, I remember people complaining that lace-topped ankle socks were sissy and not lolita at all. Flash forward several years and brands release them all the time, especially around summer.

Plain OTKs might be a good alternative when you want something simple and less flashy, but also a little warmer than tights. I just think it's a good idea to have several pairs on hand in basic colors in your wardrobe or at least matching your blouse colors. It's a bit easier to grab some plain old OTKs (and tights) rather than scour the web for weeks on end looking for a pair of socks that will perfectly match your coordinate's theme and the colors.

Nothing wrong with unleashing the inner goth though, I only really let out the kek cuz of the feels

>book a holiday in Whitby, the town that inspired Dracula
>decide to goth it up and wear uber gothic lolita whilst there
>fall into deep depression a few weeks before
>realize I'm going to be a depressed goth at Whitby

Might as well go full circle and write terrible poetry whilst I'm at it (except too much effort, too depressed kek).

Perhaps you could go for a classic-gothic staple op or jsk in black next time, then you could decide how much you want to goth it up with make-up, accessories etc - it could end up being pretty versatile.

The only things you can order from AP to Tenso are the ones where the "Add to cart" button is pink, not white. Then, on the payment pages, top payment option will be "pageant credit card settlement" (ペイジェント クレジットカード決済). The next screen will allow you to enter your credit card details. So next time, stick to the ones with the pink buttons if you want your order to go through.

The white buttons on the sales pages actually say "special order", AP has to request the items from another store. That's why credit card payment is not allowed. If they see a Tenso address they usually decline it as they know Tenso doesn't do cash on delivery. If you really want these items anyway, you can find another shopping service to order it for you, or submit a request to Tenso's shopping request page (http://www.tenso.com/en/agent/index.html).). There's no guarantee you can get the items, as it's possible they're sold out in all AP stores by the time they get around to checking for your request.

The actual making of an underskirt isnt hard, but you really have to plan out the design. Try to make it look like it is part of the dress. See above for what a shoulder measurement means in the UK. That measurement you posted I've never seen before, and doesn't appear in any of my textbooks. It must be a US thing. The closest thing we have is cross back, which is from one underarm to the other. (And by the way, I know about measuring. My tutor studied under Winifred Aldrich, who literally wrote the book on measuring/drafting. I was only asking because I've been seeing odd shoulder measurements around the internet lately and I was wondering where they were coming from.)

I think I got confused by people just referring to it as shoulder, haha. It makes more sense when you call it shoulder width or shoulder span.

ThankYou for the tips.

Oh ok, maybe it depends on where you live. I graduated from a fashion design school in Europe and shoulder width (as the picture) is one of the basic measurements we always use. It's usually referred as shoulder measurement only. The measurement you are talking about is a bit more rare way to measure a clothing item or a client and when it's used it's always referred as shoulder to neck measurement here. Of course the more measurements you have the better.

I can't look at egl anymore. It's so painful to look at posts there, most shit is easily googleable or has been asked a hundred times. I've only been in the fashion a few months and I'm sick of the "babby's first 'why are lolitas so meen'" or "is milanoo bad to buy from" posts

Just a note that I don't think it's just a US thing since I've seen the Chinese and Japanese use it as well.

This kind of shit makes me feel like her next step would be to collect payment and then never ship it out. It reaks of both idiocy and scammer to me

For me it's consistently been two to three weeks for the past half a year. Email them after a week and a half to two weeks. I've never really had them be bitchy with me at all though, and I never hear of them blacklisting except for missed payments?

Does anyone know which Japanese SS can be used to order goods that are on a long pre-order? Closer to a video game style reserve than a lolita one, I guess.

What would shipping to the US be out of curiosity?

...Is anybody else noticing that the time left on Lacemarket sales has been frozen? I've been refreshing the page on an item I'm watching and it hasn't changed all day.

Is it still doing this? I hadn't noticed but I'm going to look now.

Though on the topic of LM, has anyone else noticed that the tightening up of moderation is getting to the point of being a bit silly like the comm sales? I swear at least 3 items I was interested in this week have had mods demanding some tiny piece included in the pic or "better" photos or whatever in 24 hours or post deletion. And in most of the specific listings it seemed sort of not a big deal.

But I was thinking about it because I never get notifications of comments to listings, so I feel bad for anyone whose listing gets deleted because they didn't even get a notif of mod comment because the site's still so broken. And one mod wanted an edit even though the auction was in progress and the seller couldn't edit? So I think some of the mods don't know how the site really works, either. I was wondering if anyone actually had a listing deleted on them mid-auction or without notification.
