I was in AA next to Carl from Heroes of Cosplay so that was... interesting. I had a good time in AA (first time) and I did 4 panels. Panels were fun but a nightmare to set up.

Did anyone get a volunteer packet or any emails about us being able to ask for "buffer zones" or set up time? I did my first panel on Friday, asked for 90 minutes, and they cut us off 15 minutes early so a freaking Ask panel could set up. The volunteer I talked to said it was in the volunteer packet about buffer zones, and they had given us one to set up (we didn't ask for one, but I would have anyway). All of the other panels I did that weekend didn't have buffers for us. I had people take buffers after us, cutting into my panel time, but I didn't get any buffer on the front end. So I'm kinda peeved about that. I don't know if it's a miscommunication or if I didn't get an email (because despite being a primary organizer for 4 panels, A-fest kept sending the emails to my panelists or co-organizers and NOT me), but that made it stressful.

Hells yeah. Running the yaoi panel was the highlight (so many people we gave recommendations too, and so many bara lovers!), but I really enjoyed being in AA.

The secret to getting any play time at the arcade at all is to sneak in about 10:00 AM, when everybody else is still recovering from last night's hangovers.

No the cut off and buffer thing was never once mentioned before the con. It screwed over everyone as no one was prepared. A lot of panels were cut off early before they could finish.

Had everyone been informed ahead of time maybe adjustments could be made.We would have requested 1.5 hour time rather than an hour for many of ours had we known.

But to freaking CUT IN to my panel and cut me off 15 minutes early when I was not WARNED about it, no. And to not have this happen to everyone, too. It was so spottily enforced. I'm definitely talking to A-fest about this. I'll still submit panels next year, but this made it super stressful.

There is no clear cut "best" con in Texas between San Japan, A-Fest and (with the exclusion of this past year) Matsuri, but it all depends on what you are looking for in a con. The guy is allowed to have an opinion. He didn't say he hated San Japan, just that he thought AFest was better. And if you like a "cozier" con, you're going to like A-Fest better. SJ used to be that way, but it blew up. Now I agree that most people on here who try to come on like SJ is the worst con in the world and everyone who likes it deserves to die are vendetta-chans and trolls, but I don't think that's what happened here. Just calm your tits. It's gonna be okay.

Why ones were you in? I know some of them were 90 mins and ran up until 2 hours, or so I heard, because the organizer for the panels asked for more time the volunteers said okay. I ran Hidden History and while we timed our history lessons and the pop quiz at like an hour and 15 mins, we wanted more time for questions. People were asking pretty detailed "explain this please" questions that I had to have my co-panelist cut short lest I incur the wrath of panel staff.

We were after a video based panel and I thought they ended early, which is how we got in so quickly and did setup, I didn't know they had been cut short. And then come to find out we got cut short because of AoT Ask and the line was really long so they needed to get people in there. I was pissed. I know Ask panels with a lot of questions might need time to get all the panelists in, but you don't need 15 minutes to set up an Ask panel unless you have a powerpoint.

AFest was great but that one fucking staff was a massive cunt. I have no idea what she was cosplaying (blue wig and one pant leg thing going on0 but she was managing the dealer room entrance and waiting in line with her around was excruciating.

So was it me or did feel like there was a lot more jackassery and ruining of property this year? Between the elevator lights being stolen constantly and grafitti on walls it just felt like people went a little crazy.

Also did anyone else have the water problem this morning? Our toilet stopped working, water shut off except for spurting brown sludge. It was disgusting.

So I loved this con, thought it would've been better than A-Kon if there was just more to do.

My only problem was one of my roommates (i was his ride) but saturday night I was really about to kick his ass out and have him take a bus to Lubbock.
Day 1: All he's talking about is finding a girl in cosplay to fuck because he actually believes girls are easier if in cosplay. We get our other roommates at about 9PM, a poly-amorous group of 3 people (2 guys 1 girl) they were so cool the entire weekend, but the guy i brought saw her being comfortable to change in front of us as an invitation so IN FRONT OF ONE OF HER BOYFRIENDS he askes "So you staying in my bed tonight?" and from then on it just got uncomfortable when he was around

We get roommate 6, a really attractive girl, cosplayer and photographer. He sees this as a challenge and starts trying to make advances on her all day
night rolls around and everyone in our room is drinking having a good time then he says something along the lines of "why dont you all just strip for me right now" to our female roommates
they give him this disgusted look then continue talking which causes him to get butthurt and start drinking....ALOT and FAST. I notice his pace and i say "hey man slow down" he then gets up and storms out of our hotel room
all of the girls wanted to let him go but I told them since i was his ride back id look for him which i guess made them feel better about it.

so i was running around downstairs in the main con area saturday night looking for this drunk asshole trying not to make it obvious that i was drunk. i come back to the room after 30 mins of looking and hes in the shower crying and throwing up.

next morning he was apologizing to roommate 6 in the most shady way possible "I'm sorry I acted like that i just really wanted a shot with you, i mean why do you think I bought you lunch and stuff. i thought youd be more thankful"

after that moment i really wanted to tell him to just fuck off

Day 3: I really just wanted to go home, but roommate 6 was wanting me to stay another day in her room with 3 other people because she wanted to catch the cosplay contest, all was fine except the room was mostly girls other than the guy i brought and myself. so although i would've liked to stay in the same area as her, i offered for the girls to get the room with the beds and the guys in the room with the couches (I usually hate whitenights, but I wouldve felt like shit if i left him alone with her when she was already uncomfortable with him around)

Seconding. They weren't the most convincing in the world but it was cool to see someone actually do a Gatchaman Crowds cosplay.

I was walking around, and doing press crap. My main complaint though, was whoever did the lighting for the Main Stage needed to get fired. It wasn't so much an issue at the FLOW concert, but for the Cosplay Contest, everyone in the press pit was getting blasted with red light, and it was all blue and red on the stage itself.

Four day con was kind of tiring, though I knocked out some interviews. I'll post some photos I got from the concert later that hopefully don't show up somewhere more official.

The reason the con is so pissed at me? because they promised to pay me for SJ6, but failed to, noped out of even replying or apologizing to me. I reported Jay for making a verbal threat of violence. I reported SJ to the TX workforce commission. Didn't get payed, but, I did get the volunteer hours reduced to the legal limit for this year. Pretty upset at me for that. They sent the white knights out before, staffers, and fake facebook profiles to harass me because I told Powerglove to be wary that they have been known to fuck over guests. Thanks! Kayla(Corset) did a fantastic job making everyone's costumes. I wasn't actually up on stage (I was sitting in the audience as Briefers along with Panty and Stocking), but our entire cosplay group was so proud of them. Poor Scanty and Kneesocks probably still look sunburned. They sealed that shit so well it took ages to get most of it off.

No opinion really as I only participated in the main show. I'm glad it was more open, but from what I was told not many people entered. But Friday was pretty dead until after about 7pm. They probably need to extend the time or add a day to hall to make it work.

I did like the better attitudes judges seemed to have compared to last year. When I went in for prejudge they actually seemed interested in my cosplay and what I had to say.

I think overall there were some great changes, but until they can get the programming head to allow more types of cosplay or change the day for the main show, they are going to have attendance problems.

It was my first year I could go, and I had a hell of a time. I usually can't make it because I'm occupied over Labor Day weekend.

I cosplayed Naked Snake and went around with a few other Snakes, primarily the one with the box. Also ran into some fellow /k/ommandos and hung with them for the weekend.

I don't think their group is based on the construction side of cosplay. They do a lot to mostly pander to the fangirl side of people. They're the same ones who do the genderbent Panty/Stocking and Scanty/Kneesocks if I remember correctly.

I said I felt I had a better shot at winning than everyone else (which I did when listening to my ears bleed multiple times) and that apparently meant "he's an ass, let's take him out". It doesn't matter though, i'm done with ani-idol unless it's run by someone else.

I was the guy walking around with the working bmo. I had pokemon yellow on bmo and I was letting people play to see how far they could get as a group. A-fest was able to get to just after the second gym. They named their pokemon JIM:L6(Rattata), MeAmadeus:L12(geodude), ZIMMERMAN:L8(Nidoran), AssAndPoo:L11(zubat), BULBASAUR:L16(Pikachu), IAN:L15(butterfree) MANBEARPIG:L11(nidoran), HAROLD:L13(Pidgey). I can post more pictures if they are wanted. The caves in between the first and second gym stopped progress for 4 hours until the battery on bmo died and the walking around in circles data was lost. After that a security person who had some time to kill got us through the caves.

You should just audition, a lot of people make it through just because they put effort to do it. The "crying girl" was a young kid who sounded better than all of the "advanced" entries combined, and the girl who placed 3rd was brave enough to still sing the same song.
