Am I the only one who is irrationally angered by some prints? Normally I am really stoked if I ever see someone wearing lolita in the real world but recently I saw a girl wearing Bodyline Clocks OP complete with headbow and I was raging so hard I couldn't look at her.

Continuing from last thread, is anyone planning on getting the Disney x AP Alice in wonderland collab? Obviously not expecting great quality for the OP that suspiciously low price, but I feel like it's one of those collections that look great with all the matching accessories.

I need serious help with Bodyline shoe sizes. I take a UK 5 normally, but when I measured my foot using the tracing-and-box-around-it method, I got 23.5cm, which would suggest my feet are way smaller than they actually are? I'm so confused. Should I order a 235?

God, I'm like 160cm but that OP looks like it would barely cover my ass, wtf. The print is also very small and busy with such a muted color palette you can't even tell it's a Disney collab unless you get super close. And you're right about the price being suspiciously low, I'm definitely skipping out on this one.

About the suspiciously low price, considering moitie had a spread in GLB featuring somethingsomething Bampire Romance something, I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a typo, someone left out the "2"in front (or, who knows, maybe it's 37452 yen).

are you using the bodyline shoe chart? the cm they give is probably the total lenght of the shoe itself. if you measure 23.5cm, you would be best to go up 0.5cm, so a JP24 would be best.

The nitpick thread is actually the ita rejects thread, it was started up because girls would post photos of coords that were just boring or would post perfectly okay, non-ita coords because the person posting it didn't like pink and red or had some kind of stick up their butts about star clips. It's actually funny to hear girls now defending the nitpick thread as something useful once you realise it was originally started up as a containment thread for those who had trouble differentiating between "I don't like this coord" and a true ita.

I think AP model rinrin once ended up in the nitpick thread because her hair had pink and purple streaks in that didn't match her dress, with a comment that she should have chosen a better matching wig. It's her natural hair, of course, I guess AP liked it enough to not slap a wig over it, and it might have influenced them to go with this pink-and-purple colour scheme. This is just my conjecture, maybe someone can find the girl who modelled for them and ask her directly

It's better if you post where you're from, or the average winter temperatures around your area and see if anyone has tips for winter lolita. Generally speaking, lolita isn't built for super cold winters, the skirts are too open, even thermal underwear, thermal socks and fleece bloomers can only do so much if you're intent on wearing a skirt. The cute boots aren't built for snow either, you'll end up needing snow boots if your winters are too cold.

As for really warm coats, I've only seen them way back when taobao was a new thing -- Qutieland offered an option where you could pay extra to have kidsyoyo coats lined with an extra warm wool or fleece lining. I haven't seen them since those first few years, but you could probably email clobbao or qutieland and ask if any of their brands still offer that warm lining.

There's a few things that make it easier.

one: plan your ban. Last two months was sales season in Japan, and the prices on secondhand market were low since most lolitas' funds went towards the sales. Would've been tough to sit on the sidelines not buying anything. Now until December would be okay, though. End of December would be lucky pack season, might be a heavy test for your resolve since they're usually pretty good bargains.

two: decide the circumstances where you're allowed to buy something. For me, during my ban, I'm allowed to buy a dress, but only one. Every time something cute came up, I'm able to turn it down, because the thought of my dream dress turning up and not being able to buy it because I blew my "one dress" funds on some fleeting impulse buy scares me more than my desire to own any cute dress.

three: physically remove funds to someplace you cannot touch, for eg, place your funds into a fixed deposit. Out of sight, out of mind, and it earns interest for you as well (assuming you do have enough to put into a fixed deposit. If not, maybe putting actual cash into a coin bank would work better?)

four: having decided all that, stop going to sales sites. They're terrible cesspools of bargain temptations. Don't worry about finding the dream dress mentioned in no. two, if it's meant to be yours, it will wait for you. Meantime, go find something else to do than visit shopping sites.

As for my track record -- well, I break ban if it's a super hyped up AP release and I have the spare cash for it, since I know it'll be hard to get it secondhand. I'm all right with everything else, though. The "one dress" rule is surprisingly helpful, I compare every dress to my dream dress and usually find that I'd rather wait for my dream dress than buy this dress right now. It also helps that my wardrobe is already pretty big, so I'm not short on clothes or accessories to wear to meetups.

Most lolita-specific boots will not be great in terms of warmth or grip, since they're mostly aesthetic. Has anyone ever had an item from Japanese auctions take a really long time to reach your SS? Or had an item get lost in the mail on its way to the SS? It's been three and a half weeks and I'm just waiting for a necklace. The seller appears pretty legit and seems to run a secondhand shop from the looks of their account.

>> No.7747543

>>7747490

That's way too long. I'd have asked my SS what was up if the item didn't arrive after a week, maybe two weeks, tops. A few times they've gotten back to me to say my order was big and the sellers were still preparing it. Nothing has been lost so far, touch wood.

I've also had a seller with good feedback flake on me, the only reasoning my SS gave me was "she doesn't want to sell". I'll tell you outright I have no idea what went down other than that sentence my SS told me, or how this seller is able to maintain stellar ratings (100% perfect), but she did appear to be a bit of a scalper since most of her items were new releases that were bidded to a higher price, so I take it she wasn't happy that the dress I was bidding on had no other bidders and didn't even go above retail.

This is probably a weird question, but what would be the best way to hide a similar ruffle trim at the bottom of pic related? My friend is getting interested in lolita and I want to lend her a coord, but she's really, really short and doesn't like so much length in the skirt on her.

I meant, what brands/what sort of jewelry are you looking at? AP's plastic jewelry is different than Baby's beadwork stuff, IW's brooches and necklaces, etc.

In general, I like AP's signature jewelry, mostly because you're not going to find anything like it elsewhere. So, skip generic red bow rings but go for the MCD necklace, Milky-chan ring, or biscuit pin.
Skip baby's generic stuff like their rose rings/bracelets/necklaces, because it's overpriced for what it is and can be made yourself for less.
Not lolita specific, but I like ETC and Jane Marple jewelry, especially the latter. IW's stuff has held up well in my experience, but a lot of it is pretty generic.

Annoying questions, but I appreciate any help: Are the prices on older AP chocolate items going to increase or decrease after the new release? I love their chocolate prints, but since I like at least a few things from each release I'd be happy with something older or new. I might as well be smart about it and go for whichever is more affordable. So, is it better to buy what I can find now because the price will increase or maybe prices will decrease after the new release? OR do I get in on the ground floor on the new release because the price on the new things will go up as time goes by? It'd also be my first brand new piece.

>> No.7748526

>>7748524
Prices will probably stay about the same, since they're already not too high (they're right about retail, if not lower, really). AP tweaks the designs just enough that most people go after specific pieces from the different releases, thus not damaging the resale value too much. A lot of people seem pretty indifferent to (or at least not totally enamored with) this release, though, so it might not be super popular.

I'm 5'1-2" and actually really like long dresses. I don't think they look bad on me, but others might think they make me look stumpy, I guess.

I think figuring out if you'll like the overall look of a length is certainly easier once you own something in a similar length. For example, after purchasing MC in long, I realized I really liked how dresses this length looked on me. (Sorry for the lack of petti/coord, I'm just demonstrating length)

If you don't want to blindly take the plunge, you can always shoop a photo to get an idea. If you have a dress with a similar bodice, simply put it on and tack on the extra length to the skirt (just by like holding a ruler or something), taking note of where it would hit you. Then take a photo of yourself and extend the lines of the skirt to that point in paint or something to get an idea of the silhouette.

Japanese is a highly contextual language, and orders/reservations is implied. You honestly sound like you have no idea what you're talking about.
If you'd read their "Q and A" you'd see that they only accept orders (i.e. reservations) for a short period of time, then make and send out those orders, before opening up for orders again, because it is a very small shop run by one or two people.
This is pretty common knowledge, and you're making yourself sound like an ass for arguing about it.

And it came in totally winkled and unwearable - and not just postage wrinkles, but wrinkled to OBLIVION. I ironed most of them out, but within a few hours of wearing it, it looked gross again. Misako Aoki shows how she wears hair combs in one of her video appearances, she ties two braids and then slips the hair combs into the elastic tie at the ends of the braids. If you want a variation on that, you could also tie two low twintails and slip the haircombs into the elastic as well. The top of your head would still be open for another head wear if you feel it's too bare.

If I remember right, she says she likes them because the plain ones match a lot of things, but also that you can add them anywhere, I took that to mean you could either use them in a toned down way, or you could use them as additional accessories along with another headbow, beret or whatever.

Seagulls, I have a really weird problem where I can't stop buying things with the same theme. I literally have 5 red riding hood dresses from baby (2 my red riding hood, 2 applique red riding hood and 1 red riding hood coat op) each with matching items which pretty much makes up half my closet. I feel like the rest of my closet is suffering, because every time I set money aside for a specific thing I need to complete a set, I see a red riding hood item and buy that instead. This is getting so ridiculous.

What's a Japanese SS with really cheap shipping?

>> No.7752080

>>7752070
It's by EXCENTRIQUE. I think it's called something like sister dress and was made available in 2009 for 29,400 yen according to http://yaplog.jp/f_l_a_s_c_o/38..

If you live in the USA and aren't buying a lot, you can use shopping mall japan. They basically group ship your stuff to the usa before sending to you, so the shipping will be cheaper in the long run. Beyond that, they're all pretty much the same imo.

Is there a reason why you keep buying the same dress?

I have a weakness for carousel prints myself, have all 5 colourways of DDC and all 4 of CDC. But I figure if I continue getting more carousel-related stuff the accessories can match each other. Kind of like the way some girls have entire chocolate-themed wardrobes. I don't really see the point of making myself spend money on other prints if I don't like them, it's not like it's mandatory for me to have a widely varied wardrobe as long as I myself am happy with what I have.

I meant *same print or theme

>> No.7752141

>>7752097
Honestly, i'm not sure why I keep buying the same theme other than I like it and I like adding to my collection. I don't think there's anything wrong with owning a lot of the same dress or theme, I just wish I could stop buying it for long enough to buy some other stuff I desperately need to complete some coordinates. I use your reason of the theme matching everything else in my closet as an excuse to buy more all the time. It's just that much harder to resist buying something when it can be coordinated with half your closet.

>> No.7752167

>>7752141

Yeah, I don't really see any reason to stop buying stuff from a single theme, especially if it makes coording easier since half your closet match each other.

It looks like most of the dresses you buy pop up secondhand, maybe staying off secondhand sales site like the anon above who is on a buying ban would help? If you don't see it for sale then you won't buy it.

Has anyone ever used used the SAL or Air Mail small packet options when shipping small items from SS? Do they take as agonizingly long as these options are coming from China?

So I've been put onto the wait list for the IW Union Jack Just Wait JSK in the blue short version.
I ordered Saturday, so what do you think my chances are of getting it?

>> No.7752407

>>7752339
I just got an email from IW about an hour ago saying they'd reserved what I ordered for me (bordeaux high waist JSK and bow, and navy socks), so fingers crossed for you, anon!

>> No.7752462

>>7752407
Congrats to you anon!

I'm fairly sure I'm quite far down on the wait list, but I think I'm patient enough to wait for the inevitable sales posts.

I think it varies but I've usually found Air Mail to be pretty quick. SAL apparently differs a lot but I've usually found it takes maybe two, three weeks.

You ordered Saturday and you've already gotten a reply? Wtf I ordered a couple hours after it released and I still haven't gotten a reply.

I seem to have really bad luck with IW getting back to me in a timely manner. And the part I was most excited to get is marked sold out now, sigh

>>7752407
Congrats! I'm praying I made it in for the socks. When did you order?

I think the >>7752339 anon is saying they've ordered, but haven't heard back yet.

I ordered on saturday :P But I'm in NZ so that was a few hours after it went up, I'm pretty sure! What did you order?

Thanks! I'm going to be waiting for sales posts after AP's Loyal Rosette release I think, I don't really have the money after this IW dress, even though I'm dying inside how much I want it.

Oh ok, if it was Saturday your time then it was probably around my time US! I got 2 colorways of the socks, the line clip and some other accessories that were already released/on sale. But I was most excited for the navy socks, little things I know, but they're such a better match for Grazia Crown than its own OTK's were. And the navy socks are already marked sold out so I'm worried.

To be exact I ordered at 11 am (NZ time) on Saturday and I got the navy socks, so hopefully you'll get an email soon and get them as well if you ordered around the same time!

Most classic piece that come in navy have some sort of cream or gold adornment, so I'd go for cream rather than white or off-white.
And personally I'd lean more towards red in your combination, rather than pink.

My own wardrobe used to be almost exclusively black, cream and gold; now it has a lot of red and teal-ish blue/greens alongside those.

I considered going for the bordeaux as a back up but I think I can wait for the second hand market.

Loyal Rosette is going to be a blood bath. Thankfully it's a little too busy for my tastes.
