Anyone in the Vancouver/west coast area planning on going to anime revolution? If so what are you guys planning on doing and do you have any tips and advice for someone who's never been before?

Are u nuts?! They are lying to you...

a) inflated prices, they are not a non-profit group

b) year one, show picture of "new" convention centre, but it's at the "old" one.

c) confusing locals thinking its a rebrand of Anime Evolution.... not

d) dis-organised, both the two years my friends and i attended.

e) hotels not reasonably priced....

JESUS NO DO DIS CON!

a) I'l admit, unless you give a fuck about guests, the price of AR will probably feel like a rip off but big surprise, a bunch of kids who live off their parents and waste their money on frivolous hobbies are a pretty profitable demographic.
b) So what?
c) Confusing locals who can't read, maybe.
d) A 2-year-old con thats disorganized? What are the chances?
e) Sup, downtown Vancouver.

If you're idea of a fun con is cosplaying, meeting new people and hanging out with friends, just hang out and don't bother buying a pass. If panels are your thing, prepare for sound bleeding over from one panel to another as panel rooms are separated by a curtain. I've heard a lot of attendees voice vague complaints about attitude from AR and convention centre staff but I've never experienced that from either (I'd actually go so far to say that AR staff have been remarkably personable)

I love how for all the NWFF threads this year no one came in a shat all over the con and we managed to keep stupid vancouver con drama out of it. But now there is an AR thread stupid ppl have to come out. Fuck we were doing so well vancouverfags.

I see, well, I'm not big on panels, mostly just about cosplaying and meeting people so.

A lot of my friends don't even bother with a pass, is there stuff to do outside??

Warning: There's also a brony convention the same week. But apparently if you show them your AR pass you get a discount on their 3 day pass.
Not sure if AR will do the same thing.

Just standing around and chatting. Be warned though that area of the convention center is full of non convention people.

If you dont like dealing with normal ppl staring at you, making comments and taking your picture without asking just dont bother going. Dont need to see another person coming back here and posting about how "*SNIFF* Little kids from the cruise ships said I was weird!!"

Having a con DT is a mixed bag.

are people still butthurt and upset about them giving the wrong address. The buildings are less than 5 minutes apart. You go to the wrong one, realize, walk less than 5 minutes problem solved. Shit happens and there were banners and people everywhere. I honestly don't get what the big deal is especially since that was the first year. I've been going since it started, and will continue to go. I have no reason not to as every single experience I've had with this con has been fine. People are just looking for ways to bash on AR in my honest opinion. It's not the best con but hey, is there anything better in vancouver?
This year I decided to get a hotel downtown instead of making the hour commute every day. Hopefully it'll be worth it

>> No.7724481

I think I'll try tabling at the AA there next year, but likely I'll go solo with no helpers because no one wants to pay that much to be there.

By the way, any comments about the AA there?

When I went last year I had a lot of fun, I bought a pedobear hoodie on the first day and pretty much spent the rest of the days just walking/hanging around and taking pics with people.

Last year was amazing. The panels didn't have a problem like the first year, they were all in separate rooms. The events were all great, the dealers hall was decent, the guests and panels were pretty awesome. I had so much fucking fun, and I don't know if I can go this year and am greatly upset by it.

Wasn't it more about them being all "we're at the shiny convention centre, not like the other cons"? Honestly, I thought it was funny, but I can see how people were put off by that attitude. I think it was supposed to be playful, but it started to come off as snarky and mean as it got closer, and I think the fact that it wasn't even at the place in all the pictures just didn't help matters.

Tea party tickets just went on sale, who's going?
I read the guidelines carefully and I see nothing this year about having to also be in posession of an AR pass to be able to purchase a ticket. Price is also much lower than last year as well so that's nice.
The "clothes don't have to be brand specific" things freaks me out just a little because now any damn con girl in a frilly dress can get in.

>> No.7726080

AR is just disliked because of their shady business practices; stealing the convention name, claiming they were the same con to local businesses to get support, claiming to be in the new section of the convention center, hiring maid cafe girls to steal their setup and then getting rid of them, banning events and panels from people who host content at other local cons (even if it's not the same panel), banning people who help out at other local cons, etc. etc.

As an event it's fine, but if you look past the shiny posters and the mascot cars it's a bit of a mess.

Pretty much the only reason I'm going / getting a badge is because I'm getting a free badge for working a booth.

>>7719968
This.
Also, still laughing my ass off about the fake nips you added to your Cammy.

>>7719990
That's because NWFF doesn't seem to have as many of these issues as AR.

>>7720248
A ton of cosplayers hang out in the plaza outside the con center, and you can walk around the lobby and stuff.
I went last year without a badge. Con itself was alright.
