This actually kind of bugs me. It implies that because others have cosplayed these characters and that they were at one time overdone, then you can never cosplay them yourself without being part of some bandwagon shit.
Only "flavor of the month" ones I am aware of are Jack and Hiccup. Jack was done well after the initial "FIRST!" hype died down, and I purposefully avoided the standard blue hoodie + brown pants combo and went with the look from the start of the movie. And Hiccup was done between the movies, and was the outfit from the first one to avoid the armored dragon rider bandwagon that came when the new one came out.

See flavor of the month shit only really applies if you're doing the same shit everyone else is doing when everyone else is doing it. Going back to something that is several years old, and doing it differently than what was being done then, and what may be being done now is not quite the same as people seeing something for the first time and everyone scrambling to do it because it's the new thing to do. In any costume I do that may be perceived as "flavor of the month", I do my best to wait until the initial hype is over, and to do them differently than most others so that I can set myself apart from the slew of hastily made ones that came before me.

I don't know Kate Kane, but the others are sort of "puer aeternis," the eternal youth archetype.

Basic descrip from wikipedia:

It was a casual cosplay for comfort, based on a fanart that a whole group of friends cosplayed from.
I would LOVE to do the armor, or possibly to Rescue, but unfortunately my medium is cloth more than armor, and I would rather not cosplay something that's going to turn out shit. It wasn't serious, and I pretty much just wore it while drunk at Sak because I didn't care if it broke :)
