newbie incoming
I want to start into lolita, and im slowly getting the hang of brands and what looks good
But blouses seem to be a hard point for me to grasp.
Are blouses from BL okay? If so, does anyone have any specific ones that they would recommend? if not, where would you suggest a beginner get a nice one suited for more of a gothic coord?

if its for under a jsk, make sure it hasnt got too many front ruffles or details. And BL is fine, if you can weed out the ita ones from the decent ones. I suggest going taobao, though. magic tea party for example

Get a blouse that works well for your main piece. What dresses/skirts have caught your fancy so far?

Bodyline as a brand is not ~to be banished~ from the lolita realm, however some of their items are poor in quality whereas others are perfectly acceptable.

A wig doesn't exist solely to make your outfit OTT. You use a wig so that you can change your hairstyle. If you're actually bald, but you decide to wear a wig for a casual lolita co-ord, that is perfectly acceptable. Saying "no wigs" to all casual co-ords is kind of stupid.

I personally think that's a lovely piece (it's on my own wishlist in a different colour!), but if you're starting into Lolita, you might be better off starting with a plain colour jsk like pic related. I'm not doubting that you can make it look good, but plain-colour pieces are usually best to start a wardrobe, because it's easier to make different coords or add to your wardrobe without being tied to several colours in a print or the one theme.

That's just my 2 cents anyway. Good luck anon!

As someone who had tonnes of BL blouses and eventually purged them, I'd honestly recommend brand or higher end Taobao blouses over Bodyline.

I'd keep an eye on the 2nd hand sales. Blouses don't tend to keep retail value well, so you can easily snag some cheaper brand blouses. Even if brand blouses are costing you more, It's honestly better to pay that little bit more for good quality brand blouses over Bodyline. It's not that BL's are crap. They're okay, some are nice. Brand blouses are just way better quality, looks and investment wise. Your coord will look better with brand over BL, trust me.

For gothic, keep an eye out for when the brands have their lucky packs out, as people will be selling off blouses they don't want. AATP will be good, and Innocent world will be excellent, as classic blouses are easily incorporated into gothic.

Taobao is also good (and often the same price as BL for better quality). Off the top of my head, Krad is marvellous. R series blouses are pretty good too. Surface spell and DC weren't as good, but were better than BL.

Another key thing is that if you end up with a blouse you dislike, brand and higher end Taobao sells a hell of a lot easier.

tl;dr go for brand (2nd hand if price is an issue) or higher-end Taobao.

Anon take me away to the Netherlands, you can stand in my place in this forever summer. I don't have to do anything, I'm just sitting at home and I'm perspiring buckets. I've grown allergic to air-conditioners. Without them I suffer, with them I cannot breathe.

I hate going out because the sun is so strong. If I'm indoors and I look out, the sun is so bright I get headaches.

And I never get to layer any fashion. Lolita is always blouse + skirt or jumperskirt + bolero or OP alone.

I wear Lolita almost daily, but when it's very hot,

A few years ago it was normal if it went well into the mid 30's in the part where I am living in the Netherlands and that was hell. Last few years have been milder which I really don't mind.
22 to 25 degrees would be my ideal temperature.

I find it is the opposite, lately there has been a lot of good things being sold, although it does depend on what is your interest. A lot more sweet is being sold at cheap, and this is stuff that used to be sold at above retail. I see more people who are selling from Japan on LM than comm sales, so that is nice, and Chinese lolitas are stepping up their game and getting more and more noticed internationally.

There will always be annoying people who haggle too much for anything, but if I had the money I could have bought many 'dream dresses' this year.

If you really think that you can't be that old at all, if you were oldfag you'd realize how wide your options are now. I will agree though that for example pretty much every AP release from the last 6-10 months is being massively overpriced when people try to sell them, they all got super hyped up before release so people still think they're worth a lot when they try to sell them, but imo it was all very artificial and fleeting inflation/hype.

For now, i never had big issues of damaged items i got only a tiny tiny spot of pilling/fabric stuck in something so it got a spot (i dont know how to explain that) but i got it for cheap dirt and in very good condition despite that flaw. I just hope to never get unmentioned stains or damaged clothing. I see some auctions with stained clothing and me wonders if they really wash their items once a time when the clothing looks dirty or smells....eww.

I think they're miscalculating. An underbust usually isn't that much bigger then the waist unless they're really barrel chested. I used to have a 40" chest and a 32" underbust with a 30" waist.

I know you can sister size bras but the number usually goes down, not up when you go higher on the cup size.

>> No.7717831

>>7717619
You need to learn how to size your bra.
Take your overbust measurement (1) and subtract your underbust measurement (2) from that number to get the remainder (3) The underbust (2) is your band size, and the number of the alphabet that corresponds to 3 (ex: 5" difference is a DD/E cup) is your cup size. Most bra sizing techniques (even at boutiques) are outdated.
After you have your general size, try on different bra styles and sizes in that range to find out what fits you the best.

This stupid "hurr durr i know my bra size!" thing comes up so often that I wish resizing your boobs was part of seagull bootcamp.

After you know your 'true' size you can look up sister sizes to see what your options are and play around with those, since fit is more complex than just measuring yourself. Because of styles and padding and different companies doing their own thing, it is normal to have several bras in different sizes. This does mean that you will have to try them on regardless of your knowledge of your bra size.

This. Seriously, please don't wear lolita while riding a motorcycle. Drivers are notorious for not watching out for riders, and there's a reason that a good number of riders wear leathers while riding. Jumping in.

The other person also said "easier to make different coords". I think what they mean is that a non print is not quite as memorable or as limiting as a print dress, so if you change up your blouse, socks, bag, accessories, etc, then you could more easily make a completely different outfit with the same main piece. Given that most girls find lolita to be fairly expensive, it makes sense to start with one versatile main piece as it's the most expensive part of the outfit, and add cheaper accessories to switch things up.

Is it the one with the open ruffle collar? I have that one and the collar sits super crookedly in the front. I use the detachable bows to make it more symmetrical but it's still noticeably awkward.
It's cute though and a decent summer blouse so I mostly wear it with normalfag outfits. Most normalfags are too distracted by the fact that it's ruffly and non-mainstream to notice any imperfections.

I also have one of their peter pan collar blouses with all the lace on the front. Same story. Cute but clearly cheap, around H&M quality. I probably wouldn't wear it to fancy meetups but for everyday wear it's okay.

I've never owned a Bodyline blouse but from what I hear the quality is about the same.

Hi! I'm really new to lolita. I'm a cosplayer, and I fell in love with lolita fairly recently. I think I prefer gothic lolita. I have a lot of questions though.

Do certain types of lolita only suit certain types of appearance? And when I say appearance, I mean like facial features?

What are good affordable brands, and brands I should save up for? Those aren't really available in my country, but maybe I can buy them online.

Labor for having clothes made is fairly cheap in my country. Would it be okay if I had someone make my clothes based on a design/pattern, maybe even make them myself?

What type of shoes are acceptable in lolita? Is socks over types really bad?

I'm sorry if my English is bad, it is not my first language.

>Do certain types of lolita only suit certain types of appearance? And when I say appearance, I mean like facial features?
Well, firstly, don't be too butt ugly. Secondly, put on make up that flatters you.

>What are good affordable brands, and brands I should save up for? Those aren't really available in my country, but maybe I can buy them online.
Taobao, bodyline, closetchild, tokyo alice, egl-comm-sales and lacemarket.

>Labor for having clothes made is fairly cheap in my country. Would it be okay if I had someone make my clothes based on a design/pattern, maybe even make them myself?
No. It is not okay. You are new and you have no idea what you are doing - especially if you started off with cosplay, where the standards for quality are different from in Lolita. Buy all your clothes first. Only go into designing if you know what you are doing.

>What type of shoes are acceptable in lolita? Is socks over types really bad?
It depends on the outfit. You can look at antenna, antaina, queen bee jp for some ideas.

>I'm sorry if my English is bad, it is not my first language.
You keep saying my country my country but you don't tell us what country you are from. Are you from Mars? Must you be so mysterious? Lol

Some general advice for you
> The picture you used is from the #1 website all lolitas should avoid, milanoo. Google milanoo egl and you will know why.
> hellolace and lolibrary are clothing databases
> KERA and Gothic lolita bible are lolita/j-fashion magazines. Browse them for inspiration.
> Lurk, lurk and lurk more. Save pictures of lolitas that you think look pretty, arrange them neatly in a folder, think about why you like these lolitas and try and copy what they do.
> a petticoat is compulsory. only pro lolitas know how to wear lolita without a petticoat. newbies should not try.

>Do certain types of lolita only suit certain types of appearance?
Wear what you like. Generally people feel that the more childlike styles like sweet better suit girls with a very soft, youthful appearance and that girls with more mature and defined features look best in classic or gothic. But if you have a babyface and want to rock gothic, do your thing.

>What are good affordable brands, and brands I should save up for?
http://hellolace.net/shopping/where-to-buy
For glorious burando, check out the wardrobe section on hellolace and see which brands you prefer. Nice gothic ones are Moi-même-Moitié, Atelier Boz, Atelier Pierrot, Mille Noirs and Alice and the Pirates. Many of the clothes in that section aren't available anymore so if you fall in love with something you'll have to check out the second hand market. If you have the budget you can buy from the brands themselves. Many ship overseas now.
Cheaper options are Taobao (which has some nice gothic brands so check out the FAQ in the Taobao threads), Bodyline (which carries some design replicas that are suitable for gothic but it's easy to fuck up with Bodyline so I'd wait until you have more experience) and various indie brands I'm too lazy to get into.

>Labor for having clothes made is fairly cheap in my country. Would it be okay if I had someone make my clothes based on a design/pattern, maybe even make them myself?
Like the other anon said, it's easy to mess up when you're still inexperienced. Hell I know girls who have been into lolita for years whose handmade clothes are still atrocious. I'd suggest getting your hands on a brand dress first to see what the standard for quality is in this fashion.

>What type of shoes are acceptable in lolita?
Depends on the outfit. Sweet usually looks best with lolita-specific shoes but many girls who wear classic get their shoes from wherever. Collect pictures of good lolitas to get a feel for which shoes go with what.

One of you is off. While there should be some discrepancy due to shapes and whatnot, a true 32 G should have a fullbust measurement of about 99-100cm.
If your underbust is 32" and your fullbust is 93cm/36.5, you probably actually wear a 32D/E.

I wear a 28H, comfortably and fully filled, and my bust is 94cm. There are so many different sizes and shapes of breasts, not every woman has breasts that are perky and stand out. Logically, every chest of that size should have 99-100cm but sometimes bodies don't work that way.

I agree with what you're saying, but your math is wrong.
28" underbust and 94cm (37") fullbust put you right at a 28H/I, so you're actually wearing the correct size, and no, someone at a 28H should not have a 100cm bust.

I agree that yes, depending on your shape and the bra's shape, sometimes a different cup size might fit better than what "should" be your size.
I never said that someone with a 93cm bust couldn't be a G cup.
I did say, however, that you are not going to have a 93cm bust if you are actually a 32G. Like you said, they would have to have a small ribcage, and in this case, the band (i.e. ribcage measurement) and cup sizes don't match up with the fullbust measurement.
W/r/t your "muh boobs aren't perky" comment: Your boobs should be perky in the bra, and that's what you're measuring them for.

I am seriously disappointed by the boob confusion itt. I thought we'd gotten over this, seagulls.

well, it's an option if you hate the hassle of taobao. but if you want to save the money, suck it up and learn to plow through the golden land of chinese ebay.

The hole is about half a centimeter long, not obvious but difficult to miss if you're having a proper look at the cutsew.
Hair is mostly human, lots of long hairs inside and some small hairs.
Tbh, the piling wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't for the other shit. the seller also described it as having been worn once or twice only, way too much piling for that.

I think I'll just ask to return it, the whole sending it covered in hairs is just grossing me out too much.

Part of it is that they are shipping it to Australia where their company is then shipping it to you. I thought they were Chinese but it looks like they just have connections.

not trying to downplay the seller's mistakes, just trying to cheer you up...well anon, it could be worse, it could have been animal hair instead of human hair.

i personally feel that holes and/or tears are one of the worst things a dress can have. stains could possibly be rid off, piling is kind of eh hard to describe, smells are subjective, but holes/tears are the worst.

aside from funghi or any bugs or living things on the dress. but that's way to extreme.

Thank you for the advice. I never knew the standards of quality between lolita and cosplay differed. I am very particular about the quality of my cosplay though, But I will take your advice.

Thank you for advice. I've been looking at Taobao and see many things which I like. I am in my twenties, but people always confuse me to be a lot younger. I feel that my features suit gothic more though, and I am much more comfortable in that type of clothing.

I am from a third world country in Asia.

Did she mean she would ship this week Saturday (as in tomorrow) instead of Saturday as in next-day, or...?
