Homestuck was just becoming a thing when I started cosplaying from it (it wasnt even a thing when I started reading) Homestucks were just beginning to be annoying, but we only had meet ups, but not panels. I cosplayed Eclectica Jade and saw maybe 2 other Jades at that con.

I think the horns are really cute, not accurate for cosplay(although those Megido horns are fucken nice) but still better than a lot of homemade ones.

OP here. It first started out as HS General or just Homestuck General, and then it became MSPA General just in case anyone wanted to talk about Problem Sleuth or, eventually, Hussie's new project.

But to change things up, I added "ly" and a word so that it's different every time rather than just "MSPA General" each time. So it's "Generally This", "Generally That", and so on. Though the key words here are always "MSPA General".

Your face, i highly reccomend ben nye cadaver grey. It will always look the best.
Your hands... You can use the same make up but it will rub off so i suggest buying pax and mix it to the right shade of grey. (If you use pax i suggest using it on your neck too. That way the ben nye wont rub off on your collar)
The tights you definitely should use Welovecolors light grey.

Forget Ben Nye and go with Kryolan 089. Ben Nye is greasy and will smear onto your clothes even when sealed. Kryolan is water-based.

You could always shop your hands tbh, or just paint the tops of your fingers but not your palms. Otherwise PAX is your best bet if you're willing to make it. Seconding welovecolors for all your cosplay needs though, except for Raven you'll want regular grey, not light grey.

I use ben nye cadaver grey on my face ( and also did a test run on the top of my hand) and it stayed really well. I sealed it with the ben nye neutral set. And to be honest i think it stayed better on my hand.

Depending on your skin type you can use either or, so grease paint if you have really dry skin, and water activated paint if you have greasy skin. But if you have combination skin then you could use which ever one you like best.

Yeah, you'll want Aquacolor. The website swatches are absolute shit, unfortunately, so unless you google tests on skin you won't get an accurate read on the color. Make sure to buy sealing supplies, but not necessarily powder - powder dulls Kryolan's color. It wont' be an exact match to the tights, but it'll be damn close, and in pictures you won't notice the difference.

Agreeing that ben nye is perfectly fine for the face especially if it's muggy outside and you think you're gonna sweat your shit off. Ben nye is way easier for touch-ups, too. BUT it's heavier and doesn't feel nearly as comfortable as kryolan. So it's really user preference, I don't think one is necessarily way better than the other.

Maybe you're just looking at cosplayers who apply their paint like shit. Afaik, most if not all of the homestuck BNFs use water-based paint, and at least ceriene, dei, and kisbe use Kryolan. Ben Nye is messy and leaves your face feeling gross. I've used a lot of paint and Kryolan is my favorite hands down.

It's important to add that lighting makes both pairs of tights appear darker here. Go for grey if you'd rather have your legs be a little darker, and light grey if you'd rather they look a little lighter. Neither one will be a perfect paint match. I might personally lean toward darker, since Raven's costume is already dark so lighter might look really light by contrast.

At this point, you might as well buy small samples sizes of each brand and test them out yourself. Kryolan sells an 8ml size, not sure if Ben Nye does the same. You'll have to retouch the makeup either way at some point during the con, since you'll sweat no matter what, so it's about what will be more comfortable. Kryolan is more breathable, grease paint feels thicker/stiffer. Beyond that, it's personal preference. But I will say that I've used water-based paint in upwards of 90 degree weather and can't imagine having anything heavier on my face. It's already miserable in that kind of heat. Don't need to make it worse.

you also have to remember that varying skin types produce varying results with makeup. i use ben nye and have since i started cosplaying trolls.

for me, it's the opposite. i've never had a problem with ben nye getting all over the place from my face, and while wearing AND after washing it off, my face felt fine.

water based paints made my face feel gross and rubbed off no matter how well i sealed.

i agree, though. but small containers of each and test which one feels and stays better on your skin.

I cant stand aquacolor of ANY kind. I have tried em all. Grimas, snazaroo, kryolan, ben nye aquacolor, mehron aquacolor. Not only does it dry the fuck put pf my skin, they all never give an opaque grey. Layer after layer, i will ALWAYS have skin showing through it! On top of that layering is just asdfghjkl.
Ben nyes creme gives a completely opaque grey after one thin layer, and it is perfect for my face. No cracking, and no uncomfortable dry feeling. Honestly, why are you all exaggerating how heavy it is? It isnt even nearly as bad as you al describe it. Also, ben nye has never rubbed off my my shirt. Learn2seal m8s

Cream/grease paint gives a better result for a bit more effort IMO. Yeah sure, you have to seal it to hell and back and it IS heavier but you also don't have to deal with sweating it off (just powder it again), cracking, streaky layers or weather raining on your parade.

Not sure why everyone is just about Kryolan vs. Ben Nye though, Kryolan's cream/grease base is clearly superiour to Ben Nye in general. I also found that Supracolor was a lot easier to wear when spray-sealed rather than just powdered, and retouching the sealing (both powder and spray) throughout the day did WONDERS.

Kryolan has Supracolor and Aquacolor. I'm not surprised their waterbased is better than Ben Nye but then again I'm a Kryolan fanboy.

A note though: I can't remember when it comes to Aquacolor but their Supracolor has a very distinct scent. Some love it, others hate it. I haven't heard of anyone getting a allergic reaction but if you're sensitive it's good to keep in mind.

The tunic should absolutely be long enough to cover her crotch. Otherwise it's the equivalent of cosplaying god tier Dave with a waist-length cape, it throws the entire cosplay off. Colors are great, so I'm not sure why they sewed their top so short, but it ruins it imo. Going off Roxy's god tier, Rogue tunics should end where the characters' fingertips hit their thighs. It's a pretty major flaw.

So, for one of my cosplays im going to be using mirrored window tint since its one of those characters where you cant see his eyes behind his glasses. The problem with all the terezi's ive seen though was that they dont really achieve that opaque kind of red, while still being able to see out of them.

My friend is going to be doing a terezi cosplay, so I was wondering if it would achieve the same kind of thing if I put the window tint on the inside of the red glass. Would this make them too opaque to see out of? Would it not be worth it? Thanks in advance.

That's a really small problem that isn't even really a problem at all. The art in mspa is so stylized and simple that taking details like that (details that are obviously just out of convenience) so literally is ridiculous. A good cosplay takes details from the comic and adapts them to reality - for example, hyper-canon wigs look shitty 99.9% of the time.

mirrored window tint isn't going to be red. if you put it on the outside. if you put it on the inside, you're running the risk of making the lenses a lot darker. I'd say it's worth a try, since a roll of tint from an auto supply place is under 10$ and if it doesn't work you can use it for something else, but I'd say it's iffy.

If you wanna go with canon, go with slimmer frames. It's all up to interpretation, in my opinion. So pick what looks best on your face and I doubt people will gripe about it.

Try both out and see which ones look best on your face shape. But personally i would say use the thinner glasses instead, everyone else seems to use the thick rimmed glasses and it would be a good change.

Also if you do choose the thin rimmed glasses i think it would draw more attention to your eye make-up instead of the glasses themselves. So that's something to think about.

Couple reasons, I suspect. The most common one seems to be that cosplayers have a hard time a) matching their greens and b) applying appropriate makeup. Think of all the Meulins we see with socks that don't match their shirt, and the numbers of Nepetas with cleft lips and bad freckles. Meulins and Disciples are most prone to wig issues too, namely that to get a wig with the kind of volume seen in the sprite you either have to tease it to hell or weft two wigs together. I think the Disciple falls into the same trap the rest of the Ancestors do: a lot of cosplayers who attempt it just don't have the skill or craftsmanship to pull it off cleanly.

As a roleplayer there are a lot of godawful and halfassed nepeta roleplayers and hardly any great ones. She's really just not that interesting of a character but unlike the dancestor trolls she's established enough that there is very little room for interpretation. I know a lot of people who like Nepeta but no one who really *loves* her. She has basically no character arc and haven't had enough presence or relevance in the comic to leave any lastin impression besides "strong shipper-roleplayer catgirl".

Like I said I don't know ANYONE who has Nepeta as their favourite character, still I can imagine she attracts a lot of new readers who haven't come further than that her development and prevelance in the comic is still comparable to the other trolls, thus attracting a lot of beginner cosplayers. Disciple and Meulin are a bit better but still pretty eh most of the time. Good Disciples seem to have more to do with the cosplayer's interest in the challange posed by the cosplay than their investment in the characters. It's also like other anon said, greens are only a little easier to match than purples. The costume is easy to do but hard to do *well*.

I'm actually working on some Nepeta horns for a commission but I was curious on the shapes everyone seems to prefer? I usually do Nepeta a rounder cone shape, then Meulin a bit bigger but slender and Disciple I've done larger but with a slight more cat ear curve to it.

I've seen some that do a flat surface and curved backside to look pretty much like unhallowed cat ears but again, idk what looks more appealing?

Ex friend anon here, no idea what's going on because I've cut everyone out who even associates with her.

But to me it seems really suspicious that someone dropped 1k on her shitty calendar and that's exactly what she's asking for her medical bill.

Just use their basics line, they're pretty runny in my experience but it also depends on the colour: yellow and especially blue are both super thin in consistency while white and red are rather thick. Just remember you'll want to be able to squeeze it out of a bottle when you're done.

Giving half a shit still doesn't mean they look good though. In the case of Dualscar and Signless, it's an absolute failure of crossplay, and the two of them have made really poor makeup decisions (Signless's eyeliner beard, Dualscar's drag queen brows and awful fins). Condy's fins don't look much better, and all three have shitty horns. It's like being the tallest midgets in a group of little people. They might be the tallest, but they're still midgets.

Handmaid wins the shitty horn award for sure though. They're so bad I can't even figure out how she made them or how she managed to fuck up that much. Is it unsanded expanding foam that she just carved out and painted?
