I've spent almost $500 in alternations and I have no regrets. I still have prints from 2007 that I still wear. While I do think it's silly for girls to say "omg dream dress" only to sell it the following year, I shouldn't judge! I spend $300+ on dresses plus +$50-$100 in alterations on top of that.

I honestly just bought mine off of eBay! One of the cheapie chest binders for like 12 bucks binds me down pretty good and it's actually really comfortable to wear. I got the one (in xl because 97 cm chest) that's just a wrap but mine came with invisible straps.

This is my dream dress, and I am aware it's on Mbok right now, but deep down I'm a frugal person. The thought of spending $1k on a dress seems frivolous to me, even if I saved up for months. About 2 years. Last year all of a sudden like 5-6 wishlist dresses including my dream dress popped up one after the other month after month and I had been saving up during that time to find them, so I got pretty much all my dream dresses within 6 months or so. OK maybe "darts" is the wrong word?? I'm not really a seamstress or sew beyond alternations at all but there's literally no limit to how much you can take in. I'm the definition of flat chested and weigh less than 100lbs and I've never had a problem. Its not a difficult concept, just take it in from the seams and dont cut anything off.

Generally speaking I just take it in from the sides, on some dresses its nesessary to take it in from every seam on the bust otherwise it's wonky/unflattering. Specially the ones with a side zipper.

Actually...you can take darts across the bust if you want, it's not a waist-exclusive thing although it is most commonly used there. I think I would call them tucks though, and the reason I hate doing that on lined dresses is because imo it looks sloppy and lazy compared to altering from the inside - I'm okay with detaching the skirt from the bodice and resewing seams from the inside to have larger seam allowances without chopping much off though.
