anyone knows an online shop which sells more choice of glitter chiffon than fabric.com and that isn't ebay? preferably one that ships internationally / within Europe

>> No.7702314

How do you guys decide what type of fabric to use for a cosplay?

>> No.7702319

>>7702314
by going to a fabric store, checking out different types of fabric, using common sense.

>> No.7702441

I need some help, I have to make a plugsuit but I don't know which fabric use, any suggestion?

>> No.7702882

>>7702314
Look at the characters clothing. Note color, texture, how it moves when the character moves. Look at good cosplayers. When at fabric shops, feel the texture, heaviness, seethrough or not.

Arent plugsuits made of latex?

>> No.7703101

>>7702441

Most people prefer the look of latex.
It is a bitch to work with and expensive so good luck with that!

>> No.7703238

Do you think dupioni silk would work for a lolita JSK/skirt?

>> No.7703250

Anyone know where I can find good Neoprene?
All I can find are these sketcho sites from like 2004 for factory order. (100 unit minimum and stuff like that)

>> No.7703511

>>7703238
It might look too crinkly and shiny, therefore cheap.

>> No.7703747

>>7701725
Pretty sure Minervacrafts and Tiaknight both sell these. Reliable UK sellers who should ship within EU.

>> No.7703775

I plan on making re-making my Ryuko transform outfit form KLK, I originaly used Vinyl but it looks shiny nad crinkly. Someone suggested Spandex to me but?? IDK, im pretty skilled with different fabrics, so difficulty aside, what fabric would be best?

>> No.7703848

>>7703775
Why not use a stretch PU? Less shine and crinkle than PVC

>> No.7704202

I've been looking for some good lolita print-type fabric but I can't find anything good! Are there any online shops that sell stuff like this? I found SweetRococo on Etsy but that's about it.

>> No.7704230

>>7703747
still can't find much though. I'm specifically looking for black glitter chiffon

>> No.7704284

>>7703848
Oh thank you! I didn't even think about that, thanks!

>> No.7706450

>>7703238
No, never. Use a medium weight cotton.

>> No.7707238

I'm reupholstering my wheelchair. I have outdoor fabric, but I've been told to put a layer of plastic in the seat to protect the foam. I'm not incontinent, don't live a super-rainy place, and don't want the seat to make awkward squeaky noise. Is plastic really necessary?

>> No.7707243

What is the best fabric to use for a stretchy (but doesnt go white when you stretch too hard) comic book costume, mainly spiderman?
My first costume used Lycra-Spandex but it just felt cheap. Anything better?

>> No.7707265

>>7707238
If you do it right it shouldn't squeek that much. Also remember that someone could spill something on it, and having juice or coffee or something soak into the foam is a pain in the ass.

What fabrics would you recommend for this, especially the green "tunic" and burgundy one underneath it? I'm looking to be accurate but not die from overheating, if possible.

I've gotten all kinds of opinions from everyone, so I guess a relative consensus would be cool. Any input is super appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)

Sorry this is long overdue. Here are the results of my experiment to see if Versatex Fixer can stop spoonflower fabrics from fading in the wash due to abrasion wearing off the ink.

It looks like it works. Here's the comparison. What do you guys think?

Whether or not it is economical is another issue.

The fixer's residues might also slightly lighten the color of your print.

>> No.7708250

>>7707238
Yes because you can't protect it from other people's retardedness and sudden downpours. It's not like a chair for use around your own home where you can just be careful, you use it in public and as such it is subject to all the shit that can happen in public.

Thanks for posting! I can't believe I missed it when you finally post an update.

I'd say it looks like the print is still flaking, I see more white dots where the print has come off in the left swatch. If you keep washing it more of the print might come off. I also have some concerns about whether the Versatex needs to be reapplied, presumeably it was also abraded in the washing machine as well. It might be harder to apply evenly to a garment that has already been sewn though.

On the upside, it does look a lot better than when I threw my colour blanket into the washing machine, enough of my print came off that everything looked a shade lighter than when it went in, so the versatex definitely helped

Personally I think I would opt for one of the newer fabrics instead of versatex as other users have said it holds up in the washing machine better, but I don't think that's an option for you -- I can't imagine you have a use for camoflauge clothes made from silky faille, lol.

Four-way stretch vinyl is most common. DON'T get the two way stretch! You want four-way!

Maybe try the same stuff super sentai & kamen rider cosplayers use?

The drape and weight isn't great for lolita imo, unless you're going with an Atelier Pierrot style corset skirt

Looking for advice on what fabric to use for the skirt on Ruby (the third girl). I'm currently using a chiffon I lined with cotton but I'm unsure if this was a wise decision. My other thought was crepe satin but I'm honestly not fond of satin. What would a seagull recommend I use?

>> No.7708866

>>7703238
Nope. If you want a more dressy look, shantung works well for gothic. Has much better weight and drape.

>> No.7708875

>>7708841
Take a look at Casa satin at Joanns if you have one nearby. It's the only satin I find suitable for cosplay as it comes in a million colors and has a very subtle shine.

>> No.7708895

>>7708841
Delustered bridal satin or a sateen if you want the shine.

>> No.7709015

The abrasion issue can probably be avoided by printing with reactive dyes instead since those actually chemically bond to the fabric.

The problem is the only company I found that does this and caters to hobbyists like Spoonflower is in Germany. They ship internationally, but it's still expensive (25€/yard for twill, that's Euros, not Dollars).

There are some American companies that do this, but they're more for actual production runs and out of the range of most hobbyists.

I'd give it a few more years until Spoonflower or someone like them starts doing reactive printing for hobbyists.

We could probably bug spoonflower to see if they have any plans for that as well.

I have a black cotton skirt that I need to add a white lace trim to. pic related, it's the skirt I'm modifying (heavily). What kind of lace should I use to replace the shitty lace on this? (I already got rid of the bows and those stripe things, don't worry)

Have you considered this company?

http://artofwhere.com/

Their prices are similar to Spoonflower and they do dye sublimation on synthetic fabrics. This means that the synthetic printed fabrics are safe to wash since the dyes are chemically bonded to the fabric.
