If the other person then does not respect that boundary, THEY are the asshole.
If I'm too freaked out to say anything I take a big step away from the person. It's not quite as clear to other people what's going on but still sends a message to the person who's making me uncomfortable. If I step away from them and they then close that distance to try the same thing again, my boyfriend can see shit ain't right and moves in to rescue me.

By being a bitch and also staying with friends. I've cosplayed some pretty skimpy stuff before (and yes, I'm skinny and relatively pretty) but I'm generally a bitch to potential creepers at cons. Gotta be assertive and they should leave you alone.
Saying you're underage might deter some of them too, but that only works if you actually look young (ie Asian) and they're on the better end of creepers

I'm aggressive. I say no in a firm tone, I mean it, and they get the message. They try to grope me during pictures, I don't wait for the camera to finish, I turn, face them, may eye contact and tell them off. Slap them if necessary.
I weigh less than 90lbs, so I don't dither about boundaries. If I'm not firm from the get go, I don't have much of a chance later to make clear that I don't want them to touch me.
That, and with a concealed carry permit, most con staff aren't prepared to tell me I can't bring in a gun. As long as it's not part of my costume, is legitimately concealed and when they ask me not to carry it, I look them in the eyes and ask point blank can they guarantee my safety to the equivalent.

Well, I was cosplaying something from Final Fantasy at AX13, and a Rikku asked to take a picture with me.

So being a gay guy with a lot of female friends, my first instinct is to put my arm around her waist for the picture. Which I do. So my hand is there, resting on her waist, she giggles, and her friend takes the picture.

I didn't think anything of it, but afterwards, I was kind of like 'Wait, she probably thought I was groping her.' If she had said something, I would have moved my arm. So say something.

I'm pretty androgyneous so I mostly cosplay short shoujo-shounen boys and non revealing outfits, often with some kind of large weapon that yells 'I can and will beat you with this if you try shit'. Its worked pretty well for me so far. Happy to say I have yet to be groped in like 4 years of cosplaying.

I think I posted this story already somewhere, but I was dressed as Lady Deadpool once. Some dude came up to me wanting a hug, but when I opened my arms, he grabbed me around the waist and kissed me through the mask. It's a full face mask, so he only got spandex, but it made me freeze and by the time I realized what happened, he had run off.

It might be different in some states, but as far as I know all convention centers are private property so your concealed carry permit means diddly squat if the hotel says you can't have it. In some states it's illegal to CCW if it's posted that you can't, in others you'll just be asked to leave and can be arrested for trespassing if you don't.

CCW can also be pretty muddy territory if you're going to cons outside of the state you registered it in because some states won't recognize it.

Are you looking up state laws beforehand?

I know some of my co-workers have concealed carry on the premise but the hotel is aware and permits us to do so because of our job. A regular attendee isn't going to be granted the same rights. You seem to forget that not only are con staff walking around, but hotel security as well and they're guaranteed to have the right training. Some cons have cops on site as well.

You are in a crowd of thousands of people who likely don't have CCW, i.e. you're the only person concerned enough for your safety that you feel the need to carry a weapon on you. I understand you're a tiny girl but you're not the only one and there's plenty of teens around too. I'm sorry, this just seems like unwarranted paranoia.

I'm also curious how exactly you even plan on using it if it gets to that point? If you're walking between buildings or just out on your own I can see why you would think you would need it, but I just can't see it being a good thing to have in the con center.

It is a "concealed" weapon so you're likely not going to get found out but please be careful and compliant for your own sake.

I work convention security. I used to believe "Well as long as you're assertive, creepers will leave you alone".

This year, in one night we had 3 guys seriously cross the line and yelling at them wouldn't really have done anything. We're a con of over 10k people so it's not like your chances of running into these guys are high, but these weren't casual gropers or awkward hover-handers. They are very, very, very rare (unlike what some people try to make you believe), even at a con with a lot of booze.

We had a drunk guy grope a moderately dressed con gopher, we had another guy run up to and kiss 4 different girls who were even with friends, we had another guy almost kiss a girl after telling her "I'm on a hunt for [character] and if I find her I have to kiss her".

Being stern with these guys is better than not doing anything if you're uncomfortable but on very rare occasion you might encounter one that's so drunk and/or devoid of social ethics that they'll swoop in and do something before you can even open your mouth, no matter who you're with or how you look. Immediately be ready to report these people and give a good description.

Don't go full Tumblr and ignore them and play victim online later. Please, please, please even if a guy is only making verbal passes at you feel free to report them so we can keep an eye out before they gain the willpower/blood alcohol level to take it to the next stage.

If you really feel you need something for self defense, carry pepper spray. If you're really awkward and don't think you can be assertive, I'd avoid the later hours of the con when people start crawling down from room parties or at least stay close to someone who looks like they could flatten a guy.

Place was heavily packed due to Walking Dead actors being there and they were "afraid for their saftey". After the events of Fiesta Equestria in Houston this weekend, I'd also advise not consuming alcohol at cons. My girlfriend (23) got pretty smashed at the hotel bar and apparently a guy was stalking her most of the night, because as soon as I left her alone for 2 minutes for a bathroom trip I came back and she had been drugged in the rave. In her alcoholic state she didn't have the judgment to say no to drinks from a stranger. Thankfully she was still coherent enough to firmly tell him no, that she had me to take her home. I don't think they ever caught the guy since gf was too drunk/drugged to remember any details.

I haven't had it too bad compared to others, but I have yet to wear anything to sexy or anything, which seems to be the poor targets of this stuff.

One of my first cons I wore a pokemon gajinka I designed (I know, I know- I was 15, okay?). I thought it cute and got lots of complements. Honestly, it wasn't the worst made thing looking back but also simple. You knew what I was at the very least.

I'm tiny, so my friends were always pretty mom-like on me, but I opted to neglect a buddy system to go the bathroom real quick. Ran into a guy wear a legit dog colalr with one of the bone-shaped tags. He complimented my outfit, then jumped right into it, asking me if I knew what yiffing was. I said yeah but I was not at all interested.

He followed me until he noticed I was in fact meeting with people then I didn;t seem him for awhile. Some time ;later he approached me again, asking if I was "sure I didn't wanna try it" and trying to show me some stuff about some fursona or some shit. He was easily above 18. I noticed him around the rest of the weekend but made sure ot never be alone, so he kept his distance. Imn years since I have not seen him. So, not the worst thing, but at 15 and being new to all of this, it shook me up a little.

Another time I ran into a really weird, really deunk or high guy at the rave/dace/what have you at night. I expect that sort of shit then, you know. But he was being super creepy as I tried to get water, and he even spit his water all over me. Being paranoid and only 16 this time, I ran to shower instantly. I thought maybe he spit something onto my skin that could fuck with me, I don't know, dumb paranoia shit.

Last year a 15 year old tried to get up on me at the CTcon dance. I was 19 at the time. Granted I look young as well, but he was REALLY TRYING to get up on me. I ended up being pretty aggressive with him and getting him to piss off.

Besides, there are reasons guys might want to conceal carry as well. Some people carry their weapons with them wherever it's legal to just in case they need to perform their civic duty of preventing a crime. Concealed carry permits are shall-issue, and you can own anything short of short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and fully automatic weapons. As a general rule of thumb, if someone was planning on shooting up a bunch of people, they would have thought to do it before entering the convention center, and probably would have ignored the rule telling them they can't carry a gun. Allowing them to bring a gun into the convention center would only mean that others are allowed to as well. You would be allowed to protect yourself, and chances are that someone else might have brought a gun as well. They probably would not be able to wound 7 bystanders, as one of those bystanders would already be pulling out their gun by the time they try to make their first shot at you.

CCW isn't mukky in certain states but its not to hard to find out where its allow and isn't. if you do go somewhere that says no weapons then the most likely thing to happen is you'll be kick out or banned from establishment but again that depends on state.

I was at this party, and I flirted with this one guy a little, nothing major. I also got fairly drunk.

He's wearing a pretty short chain necklace. I hook it with my index finger and twist it around my finger, so it's tight and lightly press against his throat. I look straight into his eyes and try to make my eyes and voice really intense.

Only story I can think of happened when I was like 23 at Sakuracon. I look way younger than my age (like 18-) and I got to the hotel late thursday night. The parking for the hotel is 2 blocks from the hotel, directly across the street from the con, and so I parked my car there at like 12am and started walking back to the hotel with my pillow and a box of kleenex. Streets are pretty open and lit. Some black dude drives up on the other side of the road and asks if I want a ride. I'm just like "No thanks", but thinking holy crap wtf am I supposed to do here... Thankfully he didn't press it and drove off.

When I told the story to my parents they freaked a little, but I'd been going to the con for years and that had been the only incident. nothing's happened since either.
