Ask questions, post tutorials, pretty hair, etc.

My hair is currently a medium coppery brown shade and I was thinking of putting la riche lavender (plus maybe buy some pink to mix in if it's too cool toned) over it to achieve something like pic related (though darker) or at least a more ashy tone. Will this turn out as expected?

you should lift one or two tones from your hair. Lavender and purple in general needs a really light base to show well.

I have an issue about how to gradient dye my hair. The colors i have choose for my lolita wardrobe are black, pink (baby and hot pink), red and some lavender, the style is mostly sweet/bittersweet lolita with some creepy cute/gothic influences and the dye color i have choose is Manic Panic Ultraviolet (purple/blue color), the problem is i don't have blue or sax colors in the wardrobe so i will look like a huge weeb ita with blue gradient hair and red/pink colors?? Maybe i should choose red or pink dye?? My hair are also short, neck length and dark brown almost black.

Chill on the question marks; you only need one. I think brightly dyed hair usually looks bad in lolita (wig or natural), so I'm a bit biased, but I don't think either of those things will look good. Maybe go with more of a pink/red if you really want your hair to match your outfits, but with that length/style I would have normally suggested you wear a wig anyways.

Could I ask for some advice?
I'm feeling really bored with my hair and want to change it. I dyed it somewhat frequently in high school (usually a darker red or brown) but haven't done anything besides trim it in about 4-5 years. I love my hair colour and natural highlights, but I think I need a change of either colour or style. I'd like to keep as much length as possible and not damage my hair too much (which has been my main concern about bleaching). I also have fairly dark eyebrows and am not sure if they'd suit a lighter blonde. I'm open to any colour/style suggestions or stories from other anons about getting out of a style rut.
Pic is of my hair currently. I'm willing to post my face if need be.

>>7646362
You should look into getting professional highlights done that enhance your hair's color. You probably have nice natural highlights, but they're not going to be as noticable as getting some professionally done. That would definately spruce up your hair a bit. Maybe look into getting some choppier, layered bangs as well, your are looking kind of blah.... (no offense!! You're overall hair and style is super cute, but I'm speaking from experience of having straight bangs, and noticing how much more...flair? layered bangs gave me) Layers in your hair as well.....

I dye mine. My natural hair is thick as fuck and shit brown, and makes me look sickly and pale, so I dye it.
I dye my roots every two weeks, I don't wash my hair at least four days before dyeing.
Washing is every five to six days as it doesn't get greasy like it would if I washed it more frequently.

Special effects is better than manic panic?? I want a blue purple color from ages but i'm not sure if other dye brands have the same shade like ultraviolet. I saw neon pink yesterday on a girl in rl and it would look so gross in lolita. Maybe a blue color is more toned down than that bright neon pink.

I thought also that but i'm not sure if i can fit blonde, maybe red is better i think.

I'm another anon trying to make my bangs look best.
>choppier, layered bangs
Layered bangs? Are you saying layered straight bangs or are you suggesting side bangs? What do layered bangs look like? If you were cutting it yourself, how would it work? Do you take a section farther up, leave that longer, and cut shorter and shorter sections closer to their hairline? Or are they longer the closer you get to your hairline? How many sections does it look best with? My bangs are pretty deep, they start at the very top-most of my head. I think halfway between my hairline and my hair whorl, maybe a little closer to the whorl. How do I properly describe this to my hairstylist? I really want to be specific. I've run into terrible haircuts by relying on vague terms like "choppy" and "layered". Even photos can be misunderstood.

>hair thongs
I have a set of hair thongs meant to straighten your hair. No matter which video tutorial I look up on youtube, I cannot figure out how to use them to make curls. You can spray your braids with hair spray and slick them down with your hands to avoid the shorter pieces of your hair peeking through. As for your curling problem, it's really just getting the motion right. If you're pulling your hair out, you're probably clamping the straighteners together too tight. You need to loosen them up sometimes, and go down the hair in small "steps" instead of a dragging motion.

Hey anon, maybe I can help, I've tried a lot of different purples in three or so years.

First of all, you would have to bleach your hair very light. You don't necessarily need to go to a shade 9 like you would for pink or blue, but it needs to be at least a dark blonde. Bleaching is going to ruin your ends and it will suck, but having purple hair does compensate.

As for dyes, in my experience, Special Effects sucks (it was an ugly shade and washed out in a week). Manic Panic is okay, but the best (and cheapest) has to be La Riche Directions. My favourite is Violet mixed with Purple Haze but you can mix multiple shades to achieve the colour you want. It lasts longer as well. At the moment I have Neon Blue which is a very violet-based blue, but I'm going back to Violet.

Of course the best brands are professional ones. I used to use a dye I bought from my hairdresser (brand: Tahe) and it was amazing. Most beautiful colour + lasted for ages. I have heard Pravana is really good, but you can only buy it in the US I think.

You should be trimming your hair anyways, and at most you will have to cut a few inches but with that long hair isnt a big deal. Just dont fry your hair with over bleaching. I dont think you need to do it over time, but you should bleach it in parts because you wont be able to do it all in one go.

>>7655268
I also second directions, but I must say that they did change their dyes a while ago so some colors look different. Like I have plum which now is purple only a for a little bit then blue after a wash or two, which may bother people who reallly wanted purple but I like blue on me anyways. A thing you will find is that purple will fade either blue or pink depending on the undertones.

>>7655276
If your hair isnt bleached what will happen is that in the sun you may see a sheen of some color but it wont be like dyed blue in normal light. Which some people want to hide the color but if you really want blue hair you must bleach it.

Fixed it.

So I recently took the plunge and got a full buzz cut (it's hot here and I can still wear wigs over it when I want to). I used to dye my hair burgundy while I still had longer hair. My buzz is currently my natural color (light mousy brown).

My question is, can a buzz cut be dyed, or is my scalp going to show color splotches too badly? My hair is less than 1/4 of an inch long. Condition it a lot, but also just cut off the damaged ends as they are too gone. Dont use any heat products for a bit. You can get a leave in conditioner too.

You can do it but it will be hard to not get it on your scalp, so make sure that you really get at washing the dye out of your skin. Bleaching it though may be an issue because you will have to watch it carefully so you dont burn your scalp.

>>7659962
Yeah I get you but the green I found is meh. My friend has used it so I know how it faded but idk if I look good green and I cant actually dye all my hair often because its long so I need to be okay with the faded color.

Most dyes are vege/vegan and conditioning, it is just the bleaching that is damaging as long as you avoid box dyes. When I first bleached my hair I did only part of my hair as I was scared of ruining mine and then got over it and did it all.

>>7660689
It depends on your natural color and how dramatic you want it. I knew someone who did blond and black and since her natural hair was black it was noticable that like half her hair was damaged and half wasnt. Going darker isnt an issue but if you have to bleach it you need to take care of it when you try to go that light. If you get bored of it just dye it all that darker color for a while. The main thing is that you need to make sure that your lines are good and that your darker dye doesnt touch your lighter hair.

I could use some advice about my hair.

Laying down the initial data, my hair is a 2C/3A, slightly thick (bangs+9cm/3.5in ponytail circumference when flat ironed) which has never been colored/bleached and that grows very slowly. I have been growing my hair for seven years now, trying to get it from shoulder to classic length. I tend to trim it every ~5 months (whenever I start getting split ends) and limit my use of heat tools to my bangs, although I'll straighten it occasionally, i.e. I just did but hadn't worn my hair straight since late April. The rest of the time, I wash it once a week, detangle with a Tangle Teezer and then dry it in loose braids (since my natural curls get too tangle-y).

My problem is, after all this time I still have not reached my goal. Last year I reached my peak length (somewhere in between my waist and hipbone) but ever since I am facing dryness in the lower region/ends, which is making the split ends appear earlier and making me trim it more often, hence stalling its growth. I started doing olive&argan oil masks and leaving them overnight twice a month, but it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm using L'Oreal Professionnel Curl Contour Shampoo and a random Tressemmé conditioner, but I'll be running out of it soon and wanted some suggestions (better if sold in Europe as well). Any kind of tip will be welcomed.

Pic attached is my hair a few months back, some time before my latest trim.

You can't dye plastic or porcelain, you can only stain residue left on top of them. Your bath is just dirty and the dirt has been strained blue, if you cleaned it properly in the first place, this wouldn't have happened, and if you cleaned it properly now it would go away.

If you want it that subtle, I'd bleach the lighter side instead of overdyeing the darker side. I find lightening easier to control than dyeing. It will bleach stronger/faster with heat and higher concentrations of peroxide, and weaker/slower with no applied heat and lower concentrations of peroxide. I'd recommend Kaleidocolor bleach (it's the least irritating/smelly brand I've found) and 10 vol peroxide. Pretreat with coconut oil to keep the bleach damage at bay, check every 5 mins, apply to your roots last if at all (the heat from your head will make it process faster), and rinse with a bit of vinegar in water to stop the chemical reaction when you wash it out. Similarly, if you get any bleach on the hair you don't want lightened during application, dabbing it with a bit of vinegar will neutralize it.

Really? I never read that claim anywhere until today. Plus, what about the argan oil? I simply have way too much hair for distributing a few drops of that, so I have been using the EVOO as a carrier (and yes, I am positive it's EVOO, I'm from an exporting country). I already said I'd be switching conditioners soon, but I am wary of going silicone free with my length, that's why I asked for product suggestions instead of blanket statements. Elegant and gothic isnt a hair cut, its what you do with your hair when you style it. Also tends to be something easier with longer hair as you can do a lot of retro looks that way. This. DO NOT SKIMP ON YOUR BLEACH. Apply more then you think you need, until the entire stand is frothy with bleach, and add some more. You will never have uneven hair again if you do this from the beginning. Fixing uneven hair is more difficult, you will simply have to put the bleach on the darker areas first and then the rest of your hair to even it out.

Adding onto what this anon said: Don't come back ten minutes later to add more, it counts as double processing and will fry your hair. Make sure it's saturated when you're first applying it. Don't be cheap and not buy/mix up enough, better to have and not need than need and not have.

It is less about the length of your actual hair and more the size of what you buy and how thick your hair is. All you need is to be able to spread your hair out enough to hide it. I have long naturally wavy hair. What is a good product to use to bring out the waves without making it frizzy as hell? I want something that is quick and doesn't take a lot of heat. I've tried "beach wave" spray but my hair ends up looking frizzier than it does when I'm actually at the beach.

Hey /cgl it's summer and I'm looking for haircut or styling recommendations.

If it's possible I want:
- an easy to maintain haircut
- a short haircut that won't keep the heat around my neck
- something that can be slightly styled
- or longer style ideas with extensions
- something that can be casual or dressed up

About my hair:
- About an inch past my shoulders
- Thick, "Kinky" & Lots of it
- Keeps any styling done with high heat well
- Styling with hairspray doesn't stay long

I've already had a bob and I loved it, but I want to see if I can switch it up this summer.

Thanks!

You can try sleeping with it in a loose braid, that can help set the waves.

Sadly frizz is part of your hair type, more so in summer. So you will have to get used to it, unless you want to get into heavy duty stuff like hair spraying the shit out of it.Braids tends to be an easy way to create waves, you can try different thicknesses/amounts to see what you like best. Other things you can do is to add mouse to it so it curls a bit better, get silk pillow cases to help with your hair and other coverings so you dont create frizz while you sleep.

Do you guys have any tips on how to make bang extensions look more natural? I never go out in mine because I feel I'm not putting them on correctly or something. Should I put my real bangs aside or leave them be or pull them back when I'm putting the extensions on?

Anyone tried Palty Gelee? Wondering how it compares with their other dyes.

looking for an elegant upstyle for an OTT classic look, any tutorials? I'd like to weave fruit and flowers and ribbons through it if possible but not mandatory. I'm open to using a wig but also have waist length hair for something natural too.

>> No.7677723

>>7677536
Any sort of braid you can add a ribbon to, and most braids can be pinned up into an updo. Idk how you would weave fruit into your hair, but a french or lace braid into a bun is nice.

Looking for hairstyles for wavy or curly hair.

Mine is currently over my sholders and is something between wavy and curly. Dumping some hair releated pictures.
Also, if you want health and beautyful hair look for low/no poo and doing co wash (conditioner only). This forum helped me a lot about taking care of my hair:

I'm not sure what the actual term is, I just called them layered because I'm kind of dumb. My hair dresser uses thinning shears when she does my hair, and gives them a sligthly choppy look and thins them out some, and they always look so nice. I've been going to her for years, since it's one thing to cut my bangs on my own, but they get too thick and look very blah after a while, but she's just a damn good hairdresser and understands what looks best on my face.

Personally, I don't like bangs that go above my eyebrows, so I use that as a good measuring area. Sorry I'm not better at decribing, and for the late reply.

Here's a pic of Emma Stone that I like for... not reference, but notice how her bangs are slightly angled and have actual shape to them? A good hairstylest should be able to sculpt your bangs to fit your face and you can dictate how long or short you want them to be. The reason why I meantioned thinning shears is because I noticed when I only use scissors on my bangs, the bulk of my hair comes back after a while and they lose their overall shape. They just look boring. I get more "oomph" when my hair's "thinned" out and it just looks better, and I look less homely.
Nothing against straight cut bangs, but I just find stuff like pic related to be more glamorous.

Yeah it could be good for bitchy classic lolita who go on about elegant and classy women. They're kind of like female fedoras but for fashion, aren't they?

>> No.7680441

>>7680358
I think that looks bad, personally. Granted, straight bangs aren't for all face shapes, but I think they're more suited to lolita than bangs like that that are all over the place and in her eyes. Girls with thick, straight fringe are also my weakness, though. Also girls with curled side locks.

Yea, I think it's just a matter of opinion. I'm not a lolita, and I look super normal faggy, so I like more styled bangs (mine are actually a bit shorter than this) because they look better on my face. The anon who was replying to me sounded like she was trying to achieve something more like this than something that would be more loli. Granted, I'm really terrible at explaining what exactly "choppy" bangs are called, since my hairdresser just gets some thinning shears and goes at it, I've never had to tell her what I want...thus the picture. If anyone could maybe provide a better pic to help that anon, that would be very much appreciated!

Can I make a request for no bangs/side part hairstyles? Everything that I see which looks good has bangs which I can't have.

Also could I use my own cut hair to make wefts? Is this a thing?
