General plus size discussion thread. I feel like it is possible to look good in lolita while being plus sized but that a lot of the girl's on Facebook/tumblr don't dress for their size which gives all plus sized lolitas an ita reputation. Anyone any good examples of plus sized girls looking good.

>> No.7674052

Really, it's about dressing to your body. Thin/tall lolitas can look really terrible if they are wearing something too baggy or too short. Wearing terrible accessories, etc. Overall you should just put effort into wearing something that suits you.

MAXICIMAM makes a lot of things that fit larger girls that are actually pretty cute. I wish they put out a few more things though. I think this print is really cute

A normal plus size girl can look really cute on lolita, base on vintage dolls, but is more about style, coordination ideas and glamour. That is because a lot of plus lolita fail: fashion sense

that's actually why I personally like japan's whole 'marshmallow girl" thing, because it shows how to wear (cute) clothes that look decent on you even if you're bigger, because I can assure you that a lot of 'plus-size' clothing is ill-fitting as fuck

I always wonder what make you count as +size
I fit in all my brand but my butt and thighs is huge (good thing it doesn't show that much in lolita)

Its hard to put a size on it but I think as a general rule if you need at least half shirring normally to get into brand most lolitas would call you plus size even if in normal fashion you probably wouldn't be considered plus size really.

I'm a plus size lolita myself and I'm in the plus size lolita facebook group and holy shit there are so many itas in there and everyone just showers them with love and praise cause theyre plus size basically. Out of every 10-15 plus size lolis, like 1 or 2 are good. I think I'm a decent lolita. Most of my coords are pretty basic though considering my closet is insanely small but god. So I have a question, are underskirts ok if a dress is a bit too short on plus size lolitas?

Would people be happier to see more underskirts that are coorded properly? A lot of western plus size lolitas are stuck with the whole fat + TALL thing which kind of destroys the silhouette in more ways than one. But are underskirts a good solution? Is it best to find another dress and move on instead?

>> No.7674661

>>7674656
Personally I think the underskirt in that picture is so ugly. If you're going to do an underskirt, make it like the same colour/closer colour to the actual dress so it kind of blends in. Plus the amount of underskirt in that picture is ugly imo. I think just a little bit is best. But that's just my opinion

Underskirts are fine if you use them properly. Your picture is a good example of doing it wrong. Only 1-3 inches of the skirt should be visible if the point is to make a dress slightly longer. Underskirts look best when they match the main color of the dress.

Are you kidding me? I'm of an average weight and even I can see that lolita dresses are incredibly flattering for apple and pear shaped bodies, which most fat people have. The high waist of the skirt makes them look taller and the petticoat/skirt hides their large thighs and stomach rolls. The new 'sack style' AP dresses aren't flattering on them, but those aren't flattering on anyone.

It depends on how much she's eating compared to the amount of exercise she does.
I had a friend who would spend 2 hours at the gym everyday and ran every weekend but didn't lose weight because she kept eating the same amount of food regardless of how healthy it was.

It depends on the cut of the dress and how overweight the person is, along with how pronounced the apple shape is.

I was apple when I started, I guess I'm still considered apple at this point because my waist isn't defined and I have narrow hips. So all the charts say I'm in the apple range. At any rate, I found that higher-waisted pieces looked best on me when I was heavier and hid the bulk of my gut. They still tend to work well on me because as I've lost weight, my arms and legs are tiny looking so it hides my not so narrow waist. Skirts don't look too great. I can get away with lower waistlines now as well, but before when I was about 40lbs heavier everything was empire waisted.

Someone that is a severe apple would probably have a tough time finding anything that would look halfway decent though.

>> No.7674867

Apple is a waist measurement that is larger than your hips, not just one that is nearly equal. If your bust-waist-hips are all about the same, you're a rectangle shape.
I guess empire waist/very high waists can flatter apples, but those generally look bad on fat people, so if you're a fatty chan and an apple, chances are you're not going to look good.

>>7674842
No. While sure, the skirt makes it look a little smaller (depending on how large the person is), the lolita silhouette also draws attention to the largest part of the body (the waist).

People need to learn how to stay away from threads about subjects they don't like.
People who dislike fat people coming to a fat lolita thread is like a person who hates a determined series coming to a thread about that series' cosplays, and hating everything just for the idea of the series and not by the look of the individual costumes. Appreciate the coords, get over the fact they're fat.

>>7674842
It works for pears because it hides their heavier portion, and highlights a nice silhouette. In wider torsos, most dresses rather than balancing it out, would just make a wide person have an even wider bottom, it doesn't look right at all. Some dresses can flatter apples, of course, but people with this body type need to be far more careful with their shopping.

Ok. I've written up a submission form for tumblr where plus size lolitas could share size notes about brand pieces

Item name and Lolibrary link:

Absolute Maximum measurements for
Bust:
Waist:

Length of garment from
Shoulder to waist (if applicable):
Waist to hem:

Worn picture:

Your/model's measurements:
Bust:
Waist:
Height:

Have you altered the garment in any way? Please be specific.

Notes on comfort and ease of wear:
(Some things to consider when answering this question:
-Some items have tighter shirring than others, i.e. two OPs could have the same max measurements but the elastic would be more stretched in one than the other. This can make a big difference in comfort.
-Some brand blouses may fit a wide range of sizes in the torso area but still be small in the shoulders or sleeve cuffs.
-Is the skirt able to accommodate larger hips plus a petticoat comfortably?
Please include this kind of information when possible.)

Anything else you would like to add:

Is this something I should keep going with?

>> No.7676052

I think plus-sized Lolitas would look much better if they paid more attention to fit and wearing ease. If the garment stretches too 100cm bust you still need some room so should be max 96-98 bust measurement.

I think wearing Lolita very tight/shirring maxed makes people look bigger no matter their weight.

That said, I've seen some girls look really fab in customs and altered pieces with partial shirring, much better than in stretched out full shirring pieces.

I love it when fatties try to come up with ~legit~ excuses about why they're fat other than that they eat too much. Very few people are overweight because of other reasons, and even then most people can manage their weight if they put some effort into it. Even the link you provided puts most of the weight (lol) on being eating too much.

I don't care if someone is fat, but I draw the line at being fat and not owning up to it being YOUR fault.

You are right that not many can afford to do it so they can't wear brand like you do but before you get too proud, please know that as a normal-sized person, I really don't see that much difference in someone fat wearing altered brand, indie whale sizes or other custom-made big stuff.

For Lolita, if you can't fit into a majority of the one size clothes, you're considered plus. It's not western plus, that's bigger, but even going by BMI which causes controversy itself but is a decent loose guideline, there's underweight, healthy, overweight and then obese and morbidly obese. Above healthy is usually plus size height/weight. There are exceptions like big boobs, but whole categories are not usually defined by the few exceptions.

Often someone on the verge of overweight or just over it will not want to be labeled plus. Sometimes someone slightly overweight will label plus and get bad comments from the really huge girls.

But let's stick to the fact that IN LOLITA, if you can't comfortably fit into 1/2 shirred brand JSK without maxing the shirring and you can't fit into most brand blouses (often because of arms/cuffs), that's usually considered Lolita Plus. No need for a middle category to confuse things.

I think well-dressed fatties look well-dressed but I still see a fat girl despite whether she is wearing altered brand or an indie thing. I'm not more impressed like "ooh, she can wear brand" . Honestly the first thing I thought was 'wow, if she has enough money to do that, why not get weight loss surgery?' I just thought it was a dumb post that was trying to make other fattys jelly when in truth a normal person will just see them in brand altered for their fat. I do know Baby and AP won't let you buy multiples of identical things from them at release time so while it's possible, I don't think it's that common either. I think it's more to prevent the scalping but it would make it difficult for a double chan to do this except with a shopping service or on the second market.
As far as insecurity, I saw it as insecure to desperately pay double in order to bypass thin priv just to wear a certain print dress so must be pretty huge. Most fattys who alter brand get away with just adding bodice panel, not needing to add extra skirt fabric. Must be quite big indeed.

It was an 'and'. If you are normal sized but short arms then that's not plus is it? There are always exceptions but I was talking about general guidelines for plus and being too fat for burando things is generally the definition of plus Lolita. Tall girls who are normal-sized and proportionate for their height but can't fit into unshirred brand, long waisted girls who can't wear most brand OP, long legged girls who can't wear otk well, there are lots of non-plus-size reasons girls can't fit well into some brand things but after all this is a plus thread.

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure most would just think, "wow, two dresses, what a waste."
Though I had a laugh at the idea of the girl attending a brand tea with a dress like that and seeing the look on the designers face.

Anon I'm pretty much in that category, 98 76 94 here, and I have the same problem as you. I can never find people my size to draw co-ord inspo from because we are no where in between. We're not slim but we are ostracized by the landwhales for not being fat enough. Whenever I post wtb/wts I don't know if I should add the plus size tag; whenever I decide to browse through the plus size tag, nothing fucking fits. My measurements are about the same as you guys, actually slightly bigger on the waist, and I got so much shit from /cgl/ for just calling myself chubby. >thinking 'muh metabolism'
Your metabolism amounts to shit, whether it's slow or fast.

It's just what got used to measure how efficiently one body uses food to the next.

Metabolism itself, even when 'increased' to that of individuals who have 'fast metabolisms' isn't going to have the same effect because that just means slowpoke efficient mcgee is just going to be working harder, not wasting precious energy like your 'fast metabolism' bodies.

Eat less, you fat pieces of shit. Be THANKFUL to have a "Slow Metabolism". It means you get maximum enjoyment from every fucking thing you eat because your body knows how to use every fucking part of it, and will use every fucking part of it. Your body doesn't require ridiculous amounts of fuel to get a task done.

Bitching about a slow metabolism is like bitching about a car that gets 50+ miles to the gallon and will never need maintenance.

So go fuck yourselves, you disgusting lowlife pigs who think you have 'a condishun'

PCOS is not the cause of fatasses all over the world. PCOS weight can easily be kept under control (in most cases) with a little bit of effort in exercising and watching what you eat.

My mom's got really bad hypothyroidism - another excuse that people give for being whales - and she's only ~20-30 lbs overweight, because she fucking cares for herself and watches what she eats. She's not even on hormone correcting medication for it. She just exercises and doesn't eat like her fucking gut is a black hole.

Just own up that the reason you're huge is because you can't be bothered to watch after yourself. You're a fucking child and need to blame all of your problems on something else. It can't POSSIBLY be that you overeat or anything, because you have PCOS!!!111!

People over eat. It's true. Specifically in America, bigger/more is always better. We grow up with portion sizes that are way too large and think that's what is normal and correct.
The food industry fucks you. Basically we are all eating shit, and the poorer you are the worse it is.
Speaking of being poor, poor people are way more likely to be obese. Does that mean poor people eat more?
Sitting a lot and being stressed out also seem to be linked with obesity. Stress can even affect where you put on weight; it has a huge impact on your body.
For a LOT of people, going to work means sitting at a desk being stressed all day, then coming home tired because stress exhausts you. Time and energy to exercise are luxuries, just like healthy food.
These factors all work together to make it very easy to become obese. And being fat is shameful in our society. So it's not hard to imagine that someone might be in denial as they gain weight, and by the time they admit it to themselves they have a significant portion of weight to lose.
Regardless of how or why someone has put on weight, losing it almost always feels completely hopeless and impossible. Losing weight is not easy, and gets harder every time you try and fail. Even if you succeed, there is a HUGE chance you will gain it back and then some. Losing and gaining and losing and gaining is hard on your body, even if you manage to maintain a healthy weight afterwards. And if you have lost the weight through crash diets you might be thinner, but health-wise you could be worse off than when you were overweight.
With all those things working against you and the failures you are likely to experience, it's easy to become seriously depressed. You feel disgusting and useless and subhuman. And you end up sitting around, being stressed. You might feel like its pointless to try anymore, so you eat whatever you feel like and exacerbate things. Emotional eating is a thing that exists.

>> No.7679572

Then clothing stores/the television/people around you/etc all tell you (maybe without saying anything) that you're just inherently gross, stupid, weak willed, lazy...half of you starts to believe it. And if all that's true, again, what's the point in trying?
It is so easy to gain weight. It is so easy to keep gaining weight. It is incredibly hard to lose weight, and almost impossible to keep it off afterwards.
What fatties need are either words of encouragement, or not a single comment about their bodies/health/eating habits.
So yeah, fatties get fat by eating too much, but it is ridiculous to insist that there are no other factors.

>It is incredibly hard to lose weight, and almost impossible to keep it off afterwards.
This sounds like the mantra I told myself for years when I was heavier. I believed it until I decided for shits and giggles to see if I actually could lose the weight. I didn't think I'd ever see my high school weight again, and here I am at a healthy weight.

I got fat because of a deep situational depression, overeating (too much carbs and sugars) and a super-sedentary lifestyle. (I may possibly have some sort of thyroid issue but I've not had it checked out)

I've lost a ton of weight, about 70lbs total and still going. And outside a little gain here and there during holidays or whatever, I maintain and still lose. It's extremely easy for your average person to lose weight. But it's not as easy as the magazines would lead you to believe. It's been off and on for me since 2010. I tend to go in spurts of loss and maintaining.

Eat less and move more is really the key for *most* people. It doesn't even mean dieting. Just portion control and keeping rough tabs on your calories most days of the week, working out a little (walking, strength training) worked wonders for me.

Unless I fall into another depression, eat my face out for weeks on end, and don't step on a scale every week, there's no way I'm gaining it back, outside maybe 5-10lbs. As a rule, I don't stray any further than what would take me 2 weeks to lose, which is usually about 5-7lbs.

That said, I'm still within the realm of plus size in lolita due to my bust and especially waist measurements. (98, 82, 98) So I'm one of those "borderline" ones.

/fit/ here, congrats on the weight loss.

You're probably stalling now and again because you need to recalibrate your TDEE. Rule of thumb: recalculate how many calories you need to eat every ten pounds or so of lost weight.

People don't even need to move more, just eat less of a caloric load than they burn in a day. Moving around just makes it happen faster.

>> No.7680420

People tend to move around less when they feel depressed and oftentimes eat more food.

thanks for sharing your experience, I'm currently trying to lose weight I gained during a long period of stress and maybe depression (idk and idc but I felt like shit).
I was also still somewhat scared of the whole 'it's super hard to keep off" or "you'll just gain it back" because that's everything but motivating.

I feel like a lot of people don't realize why some people gained weight in the first place, and that they might actually not like how the look.

Any pictures of well coordinated lolitas with ~130cm bust or larger?

>> No.7680498

I was posted here like a good example, thanks!

-I m plus because a thyroid problems ( controlled now ) and PCOS at the same time. Is more difficult for me loss weight than normal people but not impossible

-Can fit into AP jsks and some BTSSB, my big problem is the bust size!

- If I can get more time to make cardio, can lost around 30 lb or more, for sure! I m working on it, because I m not happy as a plus size girl, love my curves, big bust but not my big hips and upper legs!

-Also I eat super healthy, that is why I m not super obese! Not McDonalds, not fats, big meals etc.

-Is not only how we looks, is our health in risk!

-sorry for my english girls

Yeah, it seems like some people think fatties are trying to be fat...who the hell would want to be fat... And if you call them on it they switch to concern trolling you about your health.

Thanks. TBH, I haven't been putting much effort into it lately other than maintaining and building muscle (namely for work, my job wears me down if I don't keep up with it).

I've got a formula saved for it though, so I should probably recalculate it and try to stick with it for a bit.

>>7680356
I don't think my depression was due to a chemical imbalance, considering that once I got out of the situation I was in, I was a lot happier and healthier all around and it was easy for me to lose weight. I never took any medications.

Basically I'd sit at my computer / playing videogames or sleep 12-16 hours a day (too depressed to keep a job), drink about 6-8 Cokes, eat extra big helpings at dinner, usually I'd eat a lot more sweets than I should've. In the span of 4 years I went from about 145/150lbs to 215lbs. I'm now down to 145 again and trying for about 125-130.

Do OTKs work for plus size lolitas? Do they stretch enough? Do they cut into your leg? Do you ever layer them over tights or hose?

>> No.7681389

>>7681332
I generally don't dig OTKs on plus sizes especially if they have a print.

But that all depends on how wide your calves are. If your OTKs turn into UTKs, dont wear them.

Plus size girls have a wide range of patterned lace tights that can work for lolita, or short ankle socks instead

>> No.7681396

>>7681332
Overweight, maybe. Tall, no. Tall and overweight, no. Obese, definitely not. They stretch but will at some point not stretch tall enough to be OTK's and will eventually warp and break. Plus the print on the socks stretches and looks sad and fat as well :( J-just wear tights anon. and not brand tights, like. Single color tights.

You made an excuse.
Why are you even making the excuse in the first place?
Why are you making excuses to ANYBODY?

I made a point of "I'm rejecting you." and here you are "But REASONS!!".

I ask again, why the fuck are you saying the things you say, and for what reason do you say them to the people you say them to?

>> No.7681756

>>7680332
Wooo!! You go anon!
Totally going to make it!

if it's ok with everyone I'm going to share too.
I used to weigh almost 400lbs. After I moved out of my parents house I had decided enough was enough. I found 4chan. From 4chan I found /d/, from /d/ I found /fit/.
/fit/'s brutality was just what I needed to get what I needed. Cold hard truths and the motivation to do it. Also good 'locker room chats' for swapping ideas and what not.
Also picked up that power 90 with tim horton.

In 1 year I lost 100lbs cutting at what I was told was the bare minimum 1200kcal. It was kinda hard at first but after a while I just kinda fell into routine of picking up recipes and trying them out.(extremely easy when you are buying your own shit and control what goes into your house, I tell you what.) Flooding /fit/ with recipe request threads helped a lot.

After that year some shit happened and I stumbled off my 6 month long perfect streak of perfect cheatday-less eating and power 90 (was still doing the beginners all the time, but fuck off at least it was something. I was pathetically weak.) This 'stumble' was about a week long and went back to /fit/ for answers.
I Figured cutting that low simply wasn't healthy in addition to doing 'tabata' on top of p90 every day. I stopped and took up weight lifting and upped my intake to about 1600kcal + IF 20/4. Today, 7 months later, I'm another 55lbs down and a fuck load stronger than I was.

As far as i can tell, it's easier losing weight than it is putting it on. Being raised for 20 years to be an absolute lardass, yet I weigh less than I ever did in High School after just a year and a half. (Raising fat children really should be considered child abuse. Holy fuck.)

Everything is not all sunshine and roses though, I've got loose skin. FUCKLOADS of it. It's disgusting. I cry myself to sleep over it. It makes me hate fat people, especially fat parents. $150k to fix this one mistake from my parents is frustrating at best.

US 12 wouldn't be plus size in normal fashion. But in Lolita, it would be considered plus since that equates to about a 2L - 3L depending on the brand or measurements of the items. I'm about a 10-12 myself and struggle with lolita things quite often.
