I'm working on a post-apocalyptic Finn cosplay for NYCC 2014 and still gathering up supplies. Here's what I've only got so far

-White bandana
-Blue sweatshirt
-Blue pants
-Black boots
-Tactical chest rig

Basically I'm going to spray-paint the chest rig blue along with the gloves and kneepads. The one thing I have in my eye now is getting a riot helmet with a visor and a green backpack also an old retro Gameboy so I can paint it up to look like BMO.

Does this one in the pic look like a good helmet to get a customize? Basically I was going to spray-paint it white, glue cut in half golf balls to the sides as the ears and write 'WHAT TIME IS IT' on the visor in black paint.

Well, it's pretty much required if you want to be as accurate as possible. You can still look good without it but like, let's say you want to do the Flame Princess or Flame Prince, you're going to look a bit weird if you're not orange.

While on the topic, grey or green for Marshall Lee? He's been depicted with both, but I don't like green. Plus it's inconsistent with Marceline who has never been depicted green (at least to my knowledge), so I'd just go with grey. It just looks better anyway.

Anyways, I need to work on my face and body painting skills so I can be an okay Marshall Lee, but everything else I've got.

Huh, I'd never noticed green Marshall Lee until your comment, then went and looked it up.

I'd say use grey as your base midtone (when you're painting your entire face), and mix green into your highlights and shadows. Adding a colour to your highlights and shadows will give your otherwise-desaturated face a pop. When I cosplayed PB, I mixed purple into the shadows, since it looked a lot better than simply making my pink paint redder.

I usually don't self post, but I did this Fionna cosplay last year and I was pretty happy with it, I also had a torn skirt version I wore later in the evening.
Also I didn't notice until it was too late that my sleeve that I stuffed with pillow stuffing to get a ridiculous cartoon shape was too heavy and wanted to fall off my shoulder so I had to improvise and do a pose where it would keep my sleeve from falling off, though I thought it was moderately fitting.

Yeah I agree, if its a blatantly different colored character like FP you have to be yellow, or Ice King has to be blue. I think that people can get away with PB because she's such a light pink that if you have a red complexion it won't look weird.

Different shades of a colour also usually work fine! I personally prefer the look of extra dimension from mixing in off-hue colours for highlight/shadow.

Pic semi-related; it's a green makeup swatch (shadows only) from when did Wicked Witch of the West. I thought using a more saturated version of green didn't work as well for shadow, and went with the purple-green shadow at the top.

Mine was from Epic Cosplay, I would reccomend them. It was smooth and sleek and tangles were pretty minimal. Keep a comb with you when you wear it though, because any wig that long is going to tangle.

Hello! I am the Ice Queen in this photo. I purposely used yellow craft foam to be colour accurate and also to go for a sort of cartoony look as well as getting the shape 100% on target. I was super put off by metallic shaded crowns because her's is pretty much yellow. As for my wig, I'm not trying to make excuses but its pretty much 3 wigs backcombed and sewn onto each other to give justice to her voluminous 'marshmallow' hair. Honestly this is just a bad picture of the wig, I will admit the front parts needed some brushing which I will endeavour to do next time I cosplay her!

Craft foam can look great, but it needs something done to it. It looks like she just used a sheet of yellow craft foam and called it done, even something as simple as some gold spray paint would improve the look if craft foam is all she could work with.
