I'm moving soon, and I'd like to re-do my room and make it a little more cute since I'll have more space. Also, feel free to post sewing rooms and more otaku-ish rooms.

Well it's more that my husband isn't into super feminine rooms, and we do have matching taste in a lot of stuff like wood tones, colors, etc.... but he's pretty cool about me having stuff like my dolls out on display and so on. I figure I can frill the fuck out of a room and have it be my own little sanctuary while the rest of the house is more neutral.

>> No.7642245

I'd like to request wardrobe organisation ideas, for a really, really large wardrobe, like 100+ lolita dress with the matching hair things (not always headbows), socks/tights, matching jewellery, maybe 30-40 bags and equal number of shoes?

At the moment I'm only at 50-60 dresses, and it's pretty ugly. The dresses are split between my own bedroom, the guest room closet, and on floor racks scattered around the house. The accessories... ho boy. I recently regrouped them by theme instead of type so it would be easier to pick out coordinating stuff and then stopped when I realised I had more stuff than I had boxes for. If I keep this up I'm going to actually lose things because I can't keep track of them, so I think I should start planning for wardrobe space to expand into. I don't think I'll collect past 100 lolita dresses though, seems like too many, so that's a safe number to aim for.

As for space, we're thinking of moving the bed out from the spare bedroom and converting it into a full on lolita space. I guess that's not a lot of space to work with if we're talking 100 dresses? To make things worse, 2 of the walls have large windows, the room's built-in cupboard runs the length of the 3rd wall (and it's already full of lolita clothes), so I only have 1 wall to put cupboards against.

If you have matching headbows and socks to things, how about putting them in bags and looping the handles around the hanger with the dress? That way it'll be easier to keep track of those pieces.

I do this for detachable parts such as waist ties, pin on ribbons, belts and so on.

However, with all of that and socks and headbows, it becomes quite bulky. It halves my wardrobe space as the dresses take up twice as much space because there's a bulky bag on every hanger.

http://wwwvioletlebeaux.com/2009/12/how-to-store-headbands-cutely/
You could make a few of them and mount them on the wall.

As for the dresses, you could get some cascade hangers. If you don't have enough closet space, buy a garment rack that has a shoe rack on the bottom and a shelf on top. You can store some of the bags on top. You could also buy one of those cube shelves if you want to display certain bags (maybe ones you use often).

Then you can do the same thing with JSK's, OP's, boleros, etc.... You can start off dividing them up by style, or by color and go from there.

Thank you for your suggestion on the multi hangers though.

I'll try this with blouses, but there's a limit to jsks, especially since a lot of mine at Angelic Pretty jsks. The skirt is very bulky because of the extra fabric and built-in petticoat, so there's really no way I can squish 100 lolita dresses into the existing wardrobe.

I imagine if you at least use those and keep it to maybe 3 jsks per, that can help cut down on the spacing.

Also look into something called a closet doubler. You could possibly invest in one of those, use it to double hang row your blouses, boleros, and smaller accessories, and it should possibly open more space for the JSK's,

One part of the wardrobe is already doubled like this, I use it for hanging blouses and skirts. I tried hanging jsks doubled over on them too, but then the skirts get a crease in them where they were on the hanger, and need a lot of ironing every time I want to wear them.

Going into other areas of organisation, does anyone have suggestions for organising jewellery? I like to group them together in sets rather than having them grouped by earrings, bracelet and necklace, and I do need to keep the dust off the ones I wear less often, so the lace-on-picture frames and the jewellery trees don't seem like good ideas. I came across this cute crockery-in-drawers idea, but it doesn't seem very space-efficient.

Yup. I'm on the lookout for furniture that have secret compartments. We're going to need a chair or a sofa in that room, might as well have it hold some stuff. I thought I could put my lolita magazines and paper ephemera in there and save the shelves for lolita accessories. Or should it be backwards?

I actually thought if we had enough space I could add a small tea table and when my lolita friends come over we could hang out in there, is this a good idea or a bad one? Maybe having tea and food in the same space as all the dresses is not a good idea?

We're actually moving the bed out of the room so it can be a full on lolita wardrobe. I would be moving the lolita stuff out of my bedroom and into the new lolita room, so building a platform under the bed is a bit pointless. Everything else, such as footstools or tea tables, I'll be looking for those with some storage space in them.

Yes! I'm trying to turn the guest bedroom into this, except I can't move the windows or cover them up, so whatever needs a wall can only be done to the one wall, the other wall has the existing wardrobe glued to it.

Once the bed is out, I probably have enough floor space that I can move all my clothes racks in, is there any way to make a group of clothes racks in the middle of the room look nice?

Mainly I was looking for ideas on organising things, not squirreling them into small spaces, because there's just so much stuff. I already group the blouses by type and colour, the dresses are grouped by prints, and the jewellery is grouped by theme. The trouble is that when I look for things like jewellery organisers they don't seem built to handle holding a lot of jewellery, and they don't seem to handle holding necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings together instead of all earrings or all necklaces. Socks, too, I had them all rolled up into boxes, but other than forgetting which boxes hold what socks, I'm now also running into the problem where I have something like 3 pairs of lavender socks with pony themes, and white socks have their own box but I have to take them all out and unroll them to find the one I'm looking for.
>>7644111

If the things are hidden away in opaque boxes I find it difficult to remember I have them.

This looks handy, in fact, I might try keeping my socks rolled up in these as well. Thanks!

He lives there too, you have to compromise and blend your styles so that you both feel comfortable in your house.

As you can see by the rest of the room, I like white walls with pops of color on furniture/decor/supplies/etc. So I want to add some colorful curtains, but not sure if a patterned fabric would be too much. Should I just go with like a turquoise solid? Or would a more "simple" pattern, like chevron or something, be okay? Or maybe should I do an accent wall? Not sure if that would look tacky. I mean, it IS a craft room, so some craziness is okay, but yeah. Small photo because I just posted this to our FB page straight from my phone, so it got resized.

(I live by myself and own this house, so I can do what I want, if that makes a difference with your recommendations.)

I had this problem too anon, with the socks (also with shoes and hats I keep in boxes for storage ). Pack your boxes, take a picture of what's inside, and paste it to the outside/top of the box. If things look too similar rolled up you can add a few notes to the bottom of the picture to help remind you what's in there.

Gonna dump pics to help motivate myself to clean...

I have an issue in that I have too much shit and not enough room. I went from having my own decently-sized dorm room with a kitchen (it was a double room but I was the only person in it) to moving into a small bedroom at home.
We're renting, but the landlord is lenient about putting stuff on the walls, so I'm thinking of getting some wall shelves or something.
(Mostly I just need to get rid of a lot of stuff, but it's haaaaarrddd)

When I was living with my parents I was paying rent to help them with the mortgage but ended up just gtfo when I couldn't deal with them anymore. After I moved out, they ended up losing their house soon afterwards and had to move to a house by my brother on a lease. At least the old house went to a company that did a nice job remodeling it and it's on the market again(though they want way to much for it, especially since it's next door to a tortilla factory)

Cool story anon.
My mom and I don't always get along well, the worst part is that my dad basically said "if you move in with me and go back to school I'll completely support you financially", but my mom won't be able to pay rent without me. In the winter, my dad refused to pay her child support (I'm 21 and my brother is almost 19) and she got so freaked about money that she attempted suicide.
...There's a lot more to the story, but basically I'm worried about my mom, too worried to move out.

I wouldn't have let them, especially since my dad was addicted to drugs and abusive. Also they have multiple dogs and cats so the place I lived at the time wouldn't have allowed it anyway.
