I don't recommend it. I have a friend with a model build: 5'9" and super slender. The print still looks distorted on her legs and the crotch doesn't go all the way up on her. However, I think the Grimoire OTKs look fine on her. (Though they're more like knee socks than OTKs since her legs are so long.)

If you're still indecisive...I split a Grimoire LP with my friend a few months ago and it was a great way to try out their stuff. I can't remember the price, but we got tons of socks and stockings for ridiculously cheap prices. And if they don't work out for you, I think a lot of people were able to easily scalp their Grimoire LP stuff on the comm sales.

This is pretty much the reason I stopped listing items as OBO. The worst is when they try to shit-talk you when you reject their offer. There have been times people wrote back, "Why did you list the item as OBO if you won't look at other offers?" when their offer was a 50% reduction off my asking price.

I still get laughable trade offers for things like an offbrand Forever21 blouse in exchange for a brand JSK. I always know it's a bad sign if the other person says, "You can pick as many offbrand items out of my sales post as you want in exchange for your brand JSK!"

I always put my listing price as a little more expensive than I intend to sell, and when people comment to show their interest, I tell them I can give a special discount if they can pay within 2 days (or 3 days sometimes). the key is to reveal this discount ONLY after they show their interest, if you mention it directly in your sale post it doesn't work as well.

Opinions on using foldable umbrellas as parasols? I usually only see long parasols used and they're always really pretty even when closed, but I don't want to carry it around while we're indoors, so I was thinking about getting a pretty foldable umbrella to put in my bag when not in use instead.
The handles are nothing like the long parasols, with the curve, so I'm not sure if it'd fits the aesthetic properly or not, but my main priority is just staying out of the sun as much as possible.

You are an emotional wreck who is bipolar/chronically depressed, or was molested/abused as a child. And have yet to address this and carry it with you.
You are bad with money, cannot hold down a job for more than 5 months, probably spend large amounts on clothing that you don’t even use often and are probably swimming in debt.
You dress in large fluffy clothing to hide how fat you are because you really hate yourself, and how you look. Or you dress in this fashion to make people think you are sweet innocent and adorable when deep down you don’t think you appear or feel that way at all.
You are frankly slutty and therefore easy. You think you are in love easily after meeting someone, and probably get undressed after the second date, and you quickly become overly needy. You probably have cryonic self-esteem issues because of this.
You are, rash, arrogant, irrational when mad, quick to anger, and really are often times a total bitch, and overall in life you are bitter about something, or just plain mean, making you uncomfortable to be around.
- you are shallow, spend most of your time thinking about how you look and how others view you rather than doing something productive or something that makes you actually happy with your spare time. You are an attention whore who fantasizes about having people fawn over you and are not happy otherwise, and you have lost friends and relationships in the past because of this on more than one occasion.
You don’t have control over your life or situation and for the most part will make other people’s lives more completed probably because your behaviors are very destructive. I normally measure the length of a dress I already own and like. It doesn't matter if my existing dress is high waisted or not, I just measure from shoulder to hem. Subtract the high waisted torso, and what's left is the skirt, which will end up around the same length as my existing dress (the draping normally doesn't cause a drastic amount of difference).

If it's your first lolita dress.... well, most lolita dresses are around 90cm-ish. Maybe you can look up someone who's similar to your height/weight and then check what dress lengths looks good on them.

I know they have a few fucked up prices right when a sale starts but usually they're corrected within a couple of minutes and this stayed up for quite a while

........I had the impression you were taking measurements so you could give them to the designer and have the dress custom made to your size. So the torso measurement would be from your own shoulder to wherever you want the waistline to be, since it's custom made to your torso, not the torso of the person in the computer image.

If you're trying to figure out how long the skirt of a pre-made item will be, take the length of the dress measurement, not the skirt length, subtract one to two inches for the petticoat poof, and measure down from your shoulder.

(not the anon you asked) If you take what happened to DDC as an example, it looks like the price of the skirts will go down, but the prices of the dresses will probably remain around retail, taking possible dips around sales season, and then go back to being retail priced in between sales seasons.

I guess if you wait long enough it will go out of style and eventually the price will fall gradually. Mind you, I'm talking very long term, Melty Cream Doughnuts was last year's print and still going strong.

>> No.7638387

>>7638376
It was pretty popular but I think it will be close to retail. Considering DDC didn't really drop in price BUT DDC fits a hell of a lot larger range of sizes. Cosmic fits a much smaller range and it's short which rules out even more people who fit the measurements but are taller than average. Already I've seen a couple of the cuts sold in the low 300 range and someone even had one up for retail a few weeks ago. Signs point to it dropping more once girls get it in and realize it's either not flattering on their body and/or too short for them

FB feedback is pointless since it can be edited at any time and is on the most bullshit selling platform there is. Also, you generally don't have feedback for transactions made on /cgl/.
Stick to one (or two) platforms or get used to having scattered feedback.

Also is it generally disregarded to go around getting feedback on eglfb or lacemarket?
For example, you post a WTB on both egl-comm-sales and cgl, and then ask your cgl buyer just to comment "PM'd you about the dress" on your egl-comm-sales post?

>> No.7638437

If you've posted a WTB or sales ad somewhere else (like egl), then sure, redirect the person to that page and go about getting feedback. I've never bothered to make a private listing on lm, but I already have a lot of feedback and don't really care.

>>7638418
I would slip notes into your packages when you ship and add it to the last message you send to them (like, when you notify them that you've shipped the item) with something similar to "Hey, I would really appreciate it if you could snap a photo of this and write a little review for me after you receive the item! Please tag it as 'Anon review.'"
That way the customer has the choice and also knows how to go about making sure you see it if they choose to do so. You could then just had a link to all of the reviews (or reblog them).

Season sales? Like summer or winter sales. I noticed some extra bit of a price drop on secondhand DDC around last year's winter sales/lucky pack time (a few dresses sold below retail, dresses on closet child and usagiyouhinten remained unbought for a couple of days), but about a month after, the prices went back up again and the secondhand dresses were being snapped up really quickly, even if they were the onepiece and above retail.

I forgot about Cosmic's limited size range. As for MCD, cgl predicted that the secondhand price would be much lower, but it's still sticking to a higher price point. I think I meant to say that the price point might still remain high despite what cgl's collective says.

Speaking of AP quality, have you ever found random small bundles of thread of a different color underneath the fabric?

I was checking a sax dress I just bought and on the inside of the bodice, there was a faded redish splotch. I thought it was blood and freaked out, but it turns out the color wasn't on top of the fabric but it was underneath it. You can also pinch and move the spot around the bodice, so I'm more inclined to believe it's a bundle of red thread than a stray blood stain. It kind of bugs me and I really want to remove it, but it's sewn in between fabric layers, so what can you do? I expect more quality for a $250 dress, though.

This happens to me all the time when I sew. I interline things a lot, and get bits of fluff and thread from the table or the overlocker stuck between layers. If it's under the lining, there's nothing you can really do without taking it apart. If it's a small piece you could just unpick a few cm, remove it and then slipstitch the lining back together. Lining is often slipstitched shut anyway, so it's not like it would drastically affect construction. This may not work if the lining is overlocked, though, although I don't know why it would be.

Care tags. They should be attached to your garment somewhere and will tell you what you can and cannot do to your dress. Then google "japanese washing symbols" until you find what yours means.

I say this because a lot of AP prints can actually be handwashed, a high number of blouses and other things can be machine washed. On the other hand a lot of simple dresses can only be dry-cleaned (I'm starting to think IW just puts dry cleaning on all their dresses for shiggles.).

I would dry clean prints and some delicate fabrics such as velvet and wool, and hand wash with cold water & gentle detergent the solid ones. If your dress have a region of dark colour on light ones you might want to spot test the darker regions to make sure the dye doesn't run and stain the lighter regions (this applies to lace as well). That way if the seller starts saying there's been a delay and she can't ship til next week and you give her some leeway, when the window for dispute is nearly up you will get a notification to go open one, rather than getting strung along and then suddenly realizing it's been two months and you still haven't received anything but you completely forgot when the deadline to open the dispute was and now it had passed.

I don't mean that you should panic or threaten the seller with a dispute just yet, I just mean set a reminder so you don't let the date pass if she hasn't shipped six weeks from now.

add some fabric loops on the back and pull some ribbon through it, like corset lacing. that way you can always remove it when you want to sell it without actually taking the dress apart.

Check the auctions sites, they have they from time to time. I wanted to buy some Moitie ones that were on YA! but they went for over $100, there were only 5 or less in the set too. Moitie fans will pay so much, myself included, but that's way too much.

>>7640365
This. You can also buy corset-loop lacing stuff. I can't think of the exact name - That way you sew two paralel lines of lace down the back and just thread ribbon through the lace.

The dress has chiffon at the back, will the fabric be affected much by sewing over it and then removing that?

Yes. Dear god, yes. Chiffon runs if you poke it hard enough. Don't do anything that anon suggest if the dress is chiffon.

no, because between shipping and customs, you're not really saving anything. Plus a lot of US sellers are starting to not want to ship internationally.

I was thinking about maybe getting Bodylines L489 JSK in black, pairing it maybe with a white short sleeved blouse and red shoes/accessories.
However, I'm rethinking it since I'm finding it a bit hard to incorporate red accessories without pigeonholing myself to roses. I just really like Red Rose motifs!
Any tips for babbys first coord?

So I'm the anon who made this post. After the initial feedback it seems like you guys want something more along the lines of Lookbook for Lolitas?

My initial idea was to just create a really simple app with a monthly challenge, where users could upload a coord photo, write some comments about it, and then vote for their favorite coords for that month.

The feedback I got seems like you guys want fine-grained tagging of coordinate pieces for ease of search and to find worn photos of those particular pieces. Essentially like a lolita version of Lookbook.

I guess I'm not sure where to start. I could keep the app as simple as I had planned for a fun monthly lolita community event. Or I could go all out and create a lookbook clone for lolitas and also allow coord challenges through that site as a secondary thing.

I hope this comment makes sense. What do you guys think? Would a purely lolita Lookbook be desired among you guys?

It'd be super convenient to utilize the databases for lolita pieces already out there, like lolibrary and hellolace, but I'm not sure if they have APIs...

I also know, 100%, that any app that's created from the ideas here will be open sourced for the community. It'd be impossible to maintain a closed app all on my own and it'd be really fun to get to know others in the community who'd be willing to participate and help out.

Not very accurate though. I know I'm a winter type, and this does give me cool winter, but a lot of colors given don't look good on me. The color swatches are also awful.

Same quality as the replicas except for some color differences only on certain ones, don't bother.

You obviously don't know your lace types at all, it's definitely raschel.

>>7636536
Yeah, I think those would be fine as long as the rest of the coord is also very 'elegant gothic', think Moitie styling.

IW's usually have a min around 57-58cm, actually. Their skirts are great for smaller girls. Also certain cuts of AATP JSK's, specifically ones based on their signature Miranda JSK's pattern.

I'm trying to piece together my first gothic coord. I haven't decided on a dress, this one is exactly what I want, and I'm fairly certain I missed the punch a month or so ago. By the time I gather all the pieces, I figure it'll be around late fall/winter, so I need some help so I can get pushed in the right direction. What do you guys think so far?

I'm super new to lolita fashion: what's the difference between op dresses and JSK?

>> No.7643458

>>7643303
OP (or one-piece) dresses tend to have sleeves and a higher neckline (or some sort of neck feature like >>7642653 ), while jumperskirts tend to be strapless and have lower necks like >>7638695, the idea being you don't generally wear a blouse under an OP, while going blouseless with a JSK is frowned upon. There are always exceptions of course, such as with >>7639842, even though it's technically a jumperskirt you might be hard-pressed to find a loliable blouse that wouldn't look awkward as hell under it. In cases like that, as you can see form the thread, some people will recommend a some kind of bolero or shawl to cover your arms. The idea is to keep the skin on your upper arms and under your collarbone area covered, that's part of what separates lolita from other more "normal" fashion.
