7620309 No.7620309 [Reply] [Original]

So, late last year I bought one of these cuties from Dearie because I had a 20% discount code.

I needed more loliable accessories in my life since I'd bought my first sweet print that was covered in desserts- Melty Donut whatever the fuck.

So, a few months had passed, after the last time I wore it I sat it on my bureau and there it sat for a few weeks. Maybe it was the change in temperatures or humidity or whatever but... it cracked.

I was peeved, but I paid about 10$ for it and I figured I could glue it and as I went to do so I found... crumbs. Flaky doughy bits that were very unlike paper clay or any other deco medium I was familiar with. It'd gotten soft the way that graham crackers do when they do stale.

This is when I began to wonder if I paid 10$ for an acrylic glazed cookie with a bow glued to it.

I sat it on my desk and went about my day but it's left a prickling feeling at the back of my neck. I was laying in bed half asleep until a few minutes ago but my anxieties have finally pushed me.

I could either try to glue it together and fix it or force the crack more and reveal it's secrets...

>> No.7620311

Will gluing it fix it, or will it end up looking crummy? (Sorry for the pun)

So, here's the crack.

For one thing, for all my searching I can't find a mold for a Marie biscuit.

I can find the biscuits themselves for as low as 2.99.

A shop near me was selling actual sweets encased in acrylic resin a few years ago. As I understood it, because the food is entirely encased in the resin (you could see a thick layer covering it, nothing like OP's where there's just a glaze), there's no air for bacterial growth, and therefore to way for the food to spoil.

I didn't buy any though (they weren't all that cute), so I can't tell you if the food not spoiling really holds up.

hey, I have one thing I think you need to add...

You still don't say anywhere in both the notice you put up, or on the brooch listings on your site that they are REAL biscuits/cookies. You just say it's a 'delicious honey biscuit' but no disclaimer whatsoever that it's actually a real food item sealed with a glaze. You really need to stop being vague about that and blatantly spell that out for people. In your newest FB post you still are really vague and don't point out in any way that it's an actual food item.

Hello,

Thanks for bringing the import/shipping regulation and potential health issues to my attention as well.

In future iterations of the accessory, I will definitely make it clear on the product page that the accessory has been made of a food product. Ok, as long as you are very up front that it's a real biscuit, that's fine. I still don't see why you can't edit your FB post with that information, it's so weird and almost like you're trying to avoid mentioning it directly to people.

I mean, there were two other anons in this thread who owned your brooch who didn't know it was a biscuit, if someone reads 'biscuit brooch' they are going to assume it's not a real biscuit, but a cast of something else... not sure why you're avoiding mentioning it.

>> No.7621903

Probably because people don't want to buy glazed biscuits for $10. If it was sealed in resin, yeah, but she's mentioning using a different type of glaze. There's so many goddamn ways to do this, from making fake cookies with saltdough and spices to dipping a whole real edible cookie in resin and completely coating it. I don't get why anyone is freaking out.

When I was in the second grade, we did art projects around the holidays to take home as trinkets for family. Around Christmas it was usually ornaments.
That year we had made fake 'gingerbread' cookies. I made mine in the shape of a star, and left a hole to thread ribbon through. You couldn't eat the 'dough' we had made--it was inedible and disgusting. But years later (in fact I think that ornament may be around somewhere) it was still in perfect shape without any mold. Last I saw it, I could still smell the gingery nutmeg.

I don't see how a fake cookie, or even a real cookie, in resin is a huge issue. Those resin jewelry have always been prone to breakage though and it doesn't surprise me that one of those would.

Nothing molds unless it's kept in a wrapper or in a place where moisture can form. This is why your old bagged lunches or your unsealed food molds.

70$ for shitty art is different than $10-$15 for a cute accessory. Also, people spend 70$ for crap brand jewelry made of plastic. When something you pay under 20$ for breaks it's easier to shrug off.

apart from the durability issue the design is really charming and it's hand made and about the same price as something from Claires.

The cost of materials is probably about $3-$5 depending on what you pay buying ribbon, charms, pin/clip backings, and lace in bulk. With the addition of assemblage time it's a really reasonable price.

And when you factor in material cost, because it's in bulk, it's really only a couple of cents per product. She's also probably not working on one at a time and likely does it assembly line style of getting one thing done, moving on the next, and so one and probably makes several in that hour's time.

That sir, is an artistic representation of the tumblr breed of lolita. Surrounded by others who adhere to constricting rules, the crinkle fry shows it's own unique display of what it is like to be a lolita. #unique #sweet crinkle fry #brandwhorebitches

I don't know what's up with the crinkle fry. Does burger king serve crinkle cuts? I'm actually vegetarian and (until recently) haven't been there in probably 4 years.
Also it's so humid I'm going to buy one of those dehumidifier boxes and dump the silica gel beads into a container and seal the burger inside. I feel like everything has hit a level dryness that still isn't dry enough to handle getting sealed.
