How come almost all Rapunzels who do the braid, good or bad, use extremely oversized flowers? Sure, some of those she wore in the movie were quite large, but there were also tiny ones. I've never seen any rapunzels do the braid with some actually non-enormous flowers incorporated.

with only large flowers, it ends up looking goofy and out of scale with reality.

Most cosplayers who try to be "birthday princesses" end up failing because they don't realize that before being able to sew a costume or style a wig or slap on makeup, you have to be able to interact with children, entertain children, and manage a group of children for anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours.

No1curr if you can cosplay Ariel if you don't know what to do when the birthday girl cries because someone stuck their fingers in her cake or when the kids are bored and are starting to run a little wild or hell if you just plain don't know how to interact with kids on that level.

>i draw a blunt steel sword and point it at the 'troll'
>VEGETABLES OR VALHALLA BROTHERS AND SISTERS!
> we all mock charge, i get a potatoe to the chest and fall down dramatically
> CARRY ON! SLAY THE BEAST!

Shit, True Enchantment has even gotten lazy in recent months and didn't even bother saying "Snow Queen" and "Ice Princess" in their facebook--they blatantly say Elsa and Anna, and post videos of the characters singing Disney songs, and are telling parents/kids they're names are Elsa and Anna according to some reviews online. Someone working as a face character isn't entertaining 50,000 people in a day. Nowhere near that. Face characters work a few hours a day in short shifts which usually last 30-40 minutes before they switch out, get a 30-40 minute break, then switch out again. (Shifts may change depending on the character--Elsa/Anna have longer shifts right now, for example--and the weather.) They get lunch breaks and bathroom breaks and have chaperones to control unruly guests or situations. Their job is to put on their own makeup/costumes, talk to people in character, smile, take pictures and sign autographs. Can it be hard? Sure, especially if it's hot or cold or you're dealing with lines of little kids who might get cranky or overexcited. But they have the benefit of being able to go 'offstage' on a fairly frequent basis, get breaks, have other employees around to help them out, and are not solely responsible for keeping kids entertained.

Someone working a party will be working anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours, usually on their own. They do not get lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, and there is no safe "offstage." They have to put on their own costumes and makeup and drive themselves to people's houses/apartments in said costumes, hoping that no kids see them to ruin the magic. Sometimes they have to sew or fix their own costumes. They are responsible for being the sole entertainer for a group of kids--god forbid it's 30 little kids--for a lengthy period of time. And since many parents don't understand that entertainer =/= babysitter, it also often means the 'party princess' will be left more or less on their own to deal with the kids and their little kid problems--like crying or runny noses or yelling about their friend touching their stuff. It's hard enough to keep 1 or 2 kids entertained for that length of time--imagine doing it at a party where you are also the host, the entertainment, and the babysitter.

Have you ever wondered why cast members are given 30 minute breaks before they have to go back onstage? Maybe it's because they're working 8-12 hours a day in the heat and constantly smiling/attending to hundreds of people a day is exhausting. Being a glorified babysitter compares in no way to how hard a Disney employee has to work.

Have you ever wondered why NOT getting breaks doing the same work + even more work would be exhausting?

Go be a entertainment character at a party of 30 little kids for 2 hours straight with no food, no breaks, and no bathroom time. No chaperone, parents who think you're obligated to be a babysitter and not an entertainer, and probably a few kids who are bored as hell or too young/too old to be entertained for that long. Then come back and say it's being a "glorified babysitter."

Disney didn't start Disneybounding. It was someone with a marketing degree who started copying those inspired sets people did for various fandoms, but they used their marketing degree to go somewhere with it. They only recently started doing some work with Disney, specifically the official Disney Style blog.

I can't believe you're serious. I'm sorry, but that looks terrible. Really, you'll look 5x better if you invest in or make a nice shell bra and lose the suit. No one's going to care, it's like a bikini top, and any parents that do aren't worth the time or effort anyway. Please please please consider getting rid of it. The top going over the bottom (whatever the heck is happening under the bra there) is what doesn't look good. It's just very gaudy and silly. If you still really want to stay with a nude suit, at the very least get a full one, like a nude leotard or shapewear or something.

Face characters have to look pretty, act in character (though some of them don't even care apparently) and learn to do the character signature. Party princesses have to be able to do that, plus work with kids for a long period of time (not 1-5 minute greeting), hold attention, play games, face paint, twist balloons, dance, do princess lessons etc. They usually do this alone, with no help, they have to make sure they are aware of the time because they probably have another party after.

Being a face character is not easy, I'm sure, but it doesn't sound like being a party character is either. They make more than face characters, but they have a lot more responsibility in the moment.

although also: they make more per hour but they usually have less steady schedules. A face character might work every day or every other day 5-6 days a week--a good chunk of party companies only book parties on weekends (summer being an exception) so you might work three parties one weekend and no parties the next, depending on who you can play, who else is working, how many parties are booked.

And having to "fix/sew our own costumes." It's not like that's difficult at all, and the costumes "party princesses" use are no way near as nice as the ones they have in the park. A different anon but one that works at the park.

The one thing I know is that we have specific heat indexes based on how long costumed characters can handle the heat. The higher the number, the hotter it is and the less time the characters are out.

Usually people, depending on their height and so on, will stick to one or two characters. One of my coworker's boyfriends plays Thor and recently got hired in to play Captain America.

One of the major things that face characters have over Party Princesses, they don't have to do their own makeup, wigs, costumes, etc.... Everything is supplied by the park and have specific people hired in just to handle that. However, Disney is way more restrictive on behavior and training for characters(actually employees in general) since they're super uptight about keeping the spirit, character, and being as family friendly as possible.

>What's a two hour party compared to being out all day with hundreds of guests?

>former attendent

Ehhhh, most FCs aren't going to a) be out all day or b) see that many people, competitively speaking to how many guests are in the parks. I attended fcs who had "8 hour days" which were probably closer to 4 hours with all the downtime.

the average face character interacts with anywhere from 30 - 70 people during an average shift. Which may be as short as 20 minutes (summertime when you literally can't stay out longer because you need to rehydrate + makeup melting) to maaaaaaybe an hour, if they're indoors like Elsa/Anna are right now.

"Line" shifts are sometimes longer but the interaction itself is shorter. The line setup cuts down interaction time to anywhere from 30 seconds (if they just want a picture and quick greeting) but usually 1-2 minutes, sometimes 4 or 5, if they talk and ask questions. Little kids get more interaction time, in general. Characters who aren't set-up with lines see less people, because we weren't told to hurry them up to get to as many people as possible.

I won't say being a face character is easy, but it's not 10x harder than being a party entertainer, either. Both have their difficulties and benefits. Party entertainers, from what I understand, get paid more per hour--but they aren't legally entitled to breaks + lunch. Face characters see more people in a day, but the interaction time per person is short and the obligation to pay attention is on the guest, not the employee, since they are coming to see the character. Both are expected to abide by certain standards, both deal with entitled parents and cranky kids, usw.

tl;dr both are difficult jobs with upsides/downsides why are we trying to make one out to be harder than the other

Nope. I know her, the Ariel, and she's horrible. Unless you're from her 'rival' Princess Party group. Because, trust me, anyone who knows this Ariel chick knows Nicky.

Sage because I didn't defend her? So IDK how you came to that conclusion even a little bit.

Except I don't know the Ariel chick. I just followed the link posted in the thread to that princess party page and laughed at the terrible pictures. I don't know Nicki either, but feel free to post her photos because she sounds hilarious too.

She doesn't do Disney Princess shit but since Marvel is Disney... eh. Sure. She and the Princess Party girl were besties, idk what happened in-between but. Fuck a duck they both buy so many likes and do SFS. Like. Nickychu went from 1k to 4k in nearly a DAY and claims it's for the fans.

Tries to claim she makes ALL her own costumes, too, like the Pheonix costume shown in pic.

Not really princess party related but I was at a kid's bday party the other day and they hired a balloon animal lady. And she was amazing.
She made Spiderman out of balloons for the little boys, with the face being some red balloon with spiderman's mask on it. She also had Captain America and Iron Man.

One little girl asked for Elsa, and I swear, she wasn't even looking down, she was talking to the parents, and 5 minutes later - BAM she made Elsa out of ballons and it was actually really really cute looking. And I think she made Tinkerbell too. It was realy amazing!
