Do you have the dress in hand yet? There's a potential tonal clash in that there's blue-toned white in the moon and all over the dress, and you're trying to pair it with what looks like warm white sheer tights and a cream blouse. I would actually go with either pure white, preferably something with a cold cast, if your skintone can carry it (a lot of people can't, myself included), or switch to a sheer navy blouse (if it's sheer, you don't have to worry about about 100% colour matching since your skin and what's behind you will show through the colour anyway).

The moon and the star on the right don't look silver, maybe that's just the photography though.

The rest looks all right.

Yeah I think the second time I wear this jsk i'll go for a blue theme to match the main cat's bow. For now I just want to keep it kinda simple. Would these tights work (the white ones) or would they make the coord too crowded?

Yeah, but that's not even why this coord isn't working imo. I think if you used more accent colors from the dress in your accessories it would look less drab.

Not actually lolita, but an anon in the last thread mentioned that they liked seeing sailor dresses coordinated very plainly (just solid tights and a hat, etc). Would it be a good idea to do something similar with this dress - plain white socks, loafers, a hat of some kind - or to accessorise more and how?

>>7606428
The blouse looks cream, and if the tights are warm-toned as well it could look off. Like other anon said, pure white and sheer navy blouses are the way to go.

>>7607598
I think all the blouse matches very well and cat-themed items are cute! The only reservation I would have would be about the tights (and shoes?), the darkness is out of place. >>7607616 the white ones are quite busy especially if the white parts are pure white - either plainer cream tights with that blouse maybe some dark boots, or a blue bolero would be safer.

>> No.7607645

>>7607629
That's a nice blouse! Im not sure about the white cat tights because iirc the tulle trim of the dress is a yellow, almost green toned beige which might look weird next to pure white. Maybe something a little more antiquey colored for the tights?

>> No.7607652

>>7607629
Your original blouse works perfectly with the dress. A blue blouse like that won't look balanced. Look at how the colours are distributed on your dress, the blues, teals, and reds are ACCENTS, they don't overpower anything. That blouse will definitely overpower your dress. Use the accent colours with accessories, blue and muted red rings, hair accessories, etc.
Look for new tights. I personally think off-white tights would be nice.

I think it would look nice with a dusty pink classic blouse, some OTK's with pink in to balance.
The flower headpiece to bring both gold and pink up.

Eggghhhhh anon, you put together such nicely grown up shoes and bag and then ruin it with white schoolgirl socks? At least go with lace or patterned sheer tights. Don't go too "lolita" with this, put your hair up in an updo or some other sophisticated city-girl style. That, or change the bag and shoes to something more conventionally lolita.

About the white, I don't think it's going to work, the ruffles on that dress look kind of ecru or maybe what IW calls milktea. I'd try to match that colour if possible, if not, I'd go with either black or grey instead.

You're also missing jewellery for this, I kinda figure you just haven't gotten around to deciding on that yet.

Too much trouble. Sometimes a coordinate is so bad you know it's going to get revised a billion times before being worn. Better to get some feedback on whether the colours match or not first, then try it on and see if anything else needs to be changed.

Plus you know how slow this board is. Either you change and take a snap, then change out and wait for a reply, change something about the coord based on reply and change into your clothes and take another snap, repeat over and over until the your snap looks good, or you could just leave them on the bed and swap things in and out. I feel like if a lot of anons say they don't like the socks, you should take the con crit into consideration, even if they can't tell you why, chances are they can sense something about the colour combination that looks off.

As for why the socks don't work, the rest of your coord are items with mostly pale colours and neutral tones, in other words, receding colours. The sock is such a bright green, it's an advancing colour. When you wear it it will be the one brightest spot of colour advancing from the rest the receding colours, and it will only be on your leg.

If you definitely want to wear green socks, pick a receding colour -- olive green, khaki, something less bright. Then you can have your mismatched look without looking like you're colourblind.

I do agree that there is a bit too much focus on the leg area despite these things. looking at it again, I think an additional green embellishment on the hat and use of say, a green pendant may help to add more balance. I would like to find some better shoes too.

Frankly, I don't think red shoes is a good idea. Just because a colour can complement doesn't mean that it'll be okay in just one area, especially if it's a bold colour. If you've got red shoes, try it, but don't waste money on it if you're not sure. I mean, a sweet pinkxwhite co-ord isn't going to go well with black shoes even though black is white's opposite.

Missing: Bag and jewellery.

It looks like a summer coord, if your hair isn't too natty, going wigless will cool you down much more than bolero and short socks.

For jewellery, if it's too hot I find them difficult to wear, so instead of rings and bracelets I usually paint my nails (nail art or nail stickers if I have the time), wear a scrunchie or wristcuffs instead of a bracelet. Gives you the same touches of colour, but more comfortable than having resin or metal around your hands.

>> No.7613629

>>7613568
Completely forgot about the jewelry, whoops. I would love go to wigless, but my hair isn't nice enough for lolita (even if styled), and I'd look like a troll.

I bought a pair of pink wristcuffs to go with the coord, but something about them looked off when I tried everything on. Maybe it's because the lace on the dress and socks is white? A white pair might look better.

>> No.7613814

Where do you guys usually look for items to put together a coord? Besides obvious lolita stores, do you guys go to aliexpress and places like that?

>> No.7613867

>>7613629

Hmm, blue and white wristcuffs would work better, or maybe white wristcuffs with pastel blue fingernails would work. I think you have at least four different pinks in the outfit -- the bows, the sheep, the strawberries and the bolero (assuming the shoes match the bolero). I'd keep an eye on all the pinks to make sure it looks intentional rather than not noticing they aren't all different pinks.

The wig you picked will be pretty warm, if you want something cooler, look for a short haired wig, or an updo, or something where the hair is mostly off your neck.

>> No.7613990

>>7613867
Yeah, I was very careful with the pinks. In person, they all go/match pretty well. The shoes and the bolero, and there is a light pink in the center of the strawberries on the print that matches the sheep bows. In all, the pinks go fairly well with each other (at least I think so). My only real concern is with the strawberries on the bolero looking odd with the strawberries on the dress. Even though they have the lighter pink in the middle, which matches, the majority of their color is the darker pink that you see in the pics. I just wish the strawberries all looked the same.

I am gonna play around with wristcuffs. I found someone selling the same lace that is on the dress, and I am super tempted to buy it to make the wristcuffs.

The wig is pretty warm, so I will shop around for something else. It gets 100+ degrees here in the summer, so I really don't want to die. Thanks for the suggestions.

If wrist cuffs aren't your thing you don't have to use them. I think a fairly delicate charm type bracelet could be really pretty with this.

I'm probably biased here since I'm an oldfag but the whole wrist cuff thing; although they've been around in lolita fashion pretty much since the beginning, they come and go in terms of popularity - just now they're quite popular again.

Anyway, I my point is, wrist cuffs aren't by any means a staple and you don't have to use them. About seven years ago people used to argue about whether wrist cuffs were 'ita' or not. It's just a trend, things change, options shift, ebb and flow.

Ditch the rabbit bag; it doesn't suit the style or feeling of the dress.
Without the bag, it's a very safe/boring coord. You really just have the dress, matching headbow, and a blouse. You need accessories, even if they're just simple pearl or rose bracelets/rings.
The color of the shoes looks really off to me, but it could just be the lighting. I would also ditch the watch.

I agree with the anon that said it was too muted but i don't think you need to change the skirt. Adding additional green and/or gold flowers or leaves etc to your hair would help to balance it out. I would also recommend a largeish pendant that picks out colors from the skirt.

I accidentally ordered this bag in blue instead of black. I'd like to see if I could find a use for it, but I'm not sure what sort of colors would be ok to coord with it. For example, would it be too clashy if the rest of the set was in Bodyline Saxe blue?

I think a strawberry bag would look nice, they're less cartoony and also easier to find a nice one.

Also I would use dark brown shoes instead to match the chocolate in the print. I personally don't like the yellow shoes.
(Also if you're a poorfag lolita like me, yellow shoes would be hard to work into other coords, whereas dark brown shoes are much more versatile)

It's a perfecly ok co-ord and it has quite a nice relaxed, casual sort of feel but i agree with the anon that said it has more of a twee, kath kidston type vibe than lolita as it is. No, Saxe isn't a word. It's a place, a lot of places, but it isn't a word.

Sax is short for Saxon blue, which refers to the mix of sulfuric acid and indigo used to create the color. True sax blue is actually much brighter than the light pastel blue most people refer to as sax.

I think it is possible to use yellow shoes and make it work but pulling it off is going to be tough and rely on excellent hair and make-up skills for that kinda 'I did it this way on purpose and know what i'm doing' kinda look. I shamelessly stole anons amazing accessory finds in an attempt to pull it off. it has a simple kinda vintage-like elegance about it but the thing that's stopping it from being beautifully simple rather than say, kinda plain or boring is definitely in the details. Some hair flowers along side the hat would look really lovely I think (I realize they're attached in the pic but you get the idea). A bracelet and elegant drop earrings would be great too - even if your hair/wig generally covers your ears, that occasional glimpse of extra detail is classy as hell.

With the tights, something with a touch of detail in it would be better than stark black, particularly if you picked out some of the motif in the skirt, such as the hearts, bears etc.

>> No.7625569

>>7624346
I prefer the red bag for the contrast, really liking it so far though. Red flowers or an additional bow on the other side of your hair would balance out the red and green beautifully. For the shoes, I think ankle boots would actually be a good choice in either white/off-white, or dark brown/ soft black (depending on the color of the bodice, I can't quite tell if it's black washed out by the camera or dark brown). Deep reddish boots could look great too but they need to be quite subdued and not bright.

I can see why you struggled with this, from the pic it looks like you have very deep (slightly blueish) purple tones with the jacquard print, and then more of a royal-ish blue in the skirt print plus soft (purple?) black with the ruffle.

I think the best way to make this work would be to add/mix different shades of hair embellishments to balance it out - you could add the deep purple bow to the minihat for example, just under the flowers and then use the off-white flowers on the other side of your hair or possibly add individual off-white and/or purple--blueblack flowers (which they sell) to the hat.

If you wanted a simpler look you would just mix some of the flowers and put them in your hair - for example the purple/blue-black flowers with one of the off-white pearl dangle hair combs.

I need help. I have an OTT meet coming up and I don't have a whole lot of OTT options so I thought I'd try for OTT gothic. Do you guys think this look/dress works, or is the dress too irredeemably sweet? I've seen a couple of people wear it in goth coords and I thought it worked but idk
I planned to carry a bat bag, adding a few more accessories and wearing those jeffrey campbell spiked litas. No problem anon, it's Rose Melody Merry-go-Round. For the horns I've seen a few people doing it so I just sort of guessed, I grab a small-medium size chunk of hair and just twisted it around and around while putting my finger in the middle, it took a couple of tries but once I got the horn shape I used 3 bobby pins to secure it: two diagonally going down from the top (if that makes sense) and one at the base. It's still a little loose so I'll fiddle with it tonight. I'm not sure how other people are doing it but I wanted pointier ones than you usually see
I have some black wristcuffs but I am worried they just add to the sweetness, I might have time to go to the mall tonight but who knows what I'll find lol. Most of my other gothic type accessories are just generic rings and the like, I do have a really cool skeleton hand bracelet but I'm worried there's too much mixing of generic themes. Definitely ok for gothic, it just depends how you style it. I do think it's really important that you use silver in your necklace/choker though to make the silver of the dress look more deliberate and help add balance. I can't quite make out the type you're wearing in the pic.

Definitely add more hair flowers in black, they don't have to go round in a full arc like the crowns everyone's sick of seeing but add more on the same side as the red one. I also think it would be totally gorgeous if you added small dark red flowers to the lenghs of the hair/wig and used them in a 'scatter' type formation.

Would also highly reccomend swapping out your white/silver waist ribbon for a quality red velvet ribbon one or black if you prefer - even redxblack if you can actually find one at the craft/supply store.

Go for gorgeous gothic but still lolita apptopriate make-up in black and silver and possibly a hint of rose red. Bring in black and silver/black, red & silver on your nails too.

Since this is ott, you could make use of black gloves and put your bracelet(s) over them.

Another bold ring in blackxsilver would be good too (if you're not already wearing one).

I was wondering if I should add more hair accessories but wasn't sure - I have a couple of black/red roses that I will go for. The choker is lacey black with green gems but I could probably find another, silver necklace
For makeup, I'm not too great at eyeshadow but I was going to do my typical black eyeliner look and wear golden yellow contacts along with some flasies and dark red lipcolor to be a little dramatic. If I have some silver eyeshadow I'll try that too!
Sadly I was not able to find appropriate black gloves. Do you think pic related (left) would be okay or is it too much/too different a theme? I think red nails too since my other bracelet has red details
I really wish I could have found black gloves, all I saw were some half gloves at Claire's :/ Do you think I could wear black wristcuffs along with the bracelets? They are slightly sweet looking with a little bow and chain on them but not too sweet. I guess I'll have to try them out. Hopefully I can find a standout ring or two. I just moved so my stuff's a jumble. It's my first meet at this new comm too so I really want to make a good impression. I really appreciate the help anon, you really went above & beyond. I'll try to do what of this I can (meet is tomorrow, because lol I don't plan and also was unpacking all week)
What do you think for legwear? I have those harlequin tights, I also have black IW rottenburg tights, plain black OTKs with lace, a variety of tights, studded OTKs

So it's not okay to wear a waist bow on your blouse is it? I have the cosmic skirt and I want to move the bow...
Also, do you usually leave it on the waist? I mean the material is that chiffon-type and i worry about it tearing if it gets caught

Perpetually trying to coord this set. Should I avoid using all of the pieces at once? I've been having a hard time because my initial idea of coording it with pink has driven me insane! There are too many pinks and I know if I pay good money for a blouse and it's a mismatching pink I'll be so pissed (guess I'm a bit compulsive). White seems way too boring to me. My wardrobe is small and mixed. I've been building it toward a red, pink, brown color scheme, so I'm hesitant to go with mint (even though I think it'd be a good route). Aside from that, cake/food polymer clay type accessories are a dime a dozen and I'm not sure where to start. Basically, I think I'm overthinking this and I'm driving myself mad!

Help?

It really depends on the bow. I have seen bows on blouses or even as hairbows work very well. The mistake is mostly when the bows are too big. You see this a lot with bodyline bows, they just don't work anywhere else. The cosmic bow looks like it could work, I would play around with it but if it's just too big I would do something else.
>>7627541
I think using all the pieces you have here at once is fine. White is boring but maybe you could do the white blouse anyway and bring out the other colors with accessories? There seem to be a few different pinks here so if an accessory or shoe is a little mismatched it should be okay. Pink wristcuffs, pearl bracelet with a big pink bow on it, maybe a pink rosette. You could also just buy some mint ribbon at the craft store and use that as an accent for the aforementioned bracelet and rosette. That way it is not too much of an investment. I do the same think with my wardrobe so I understand not wanting to venture too far out.

Happy to help anon, glad the collage/info was useful. Holy hell what a stunning piece of jewelry though! I think you could use one on one hand (you may only own one anyway, i don't know if they come as a pair) but with no additional embellishments (although the wrist cuffs you mentioned over it could be kinda cool, try it and see! Oh and wear both wristcuffs if you do this) on that hand and then the rings and bracelet on the other. Two skeleton hands (if you have two) would be too much imho for the style of dress and not in a good ott kinda way.

Wrist cuffs could def work, try them and see and see how they look/sit with the rest of the jewelry.

Legwear-wise the plain black OTKs with lace would probably be your best bet, I saw the IW socks but although they are beautiful I'm not sure if they are silver looking enough and may clutter your ensemble somewhat. Lace tights could work too but perhaps not the kind that are too 'net' like though, something more opaque-ish where the design/knit is quite close together would be a better bet I think.

All the very best with your meet-up anon!

I really think you should try mint as your accent color if you're struggling with the pink shades, it would really help the co-ord to pop too. I would also recommend using an additional mint hair accessory on the other side of your hair, it could be another bow for that double bow look, or you could use clips/slides etc - whatever appeals. A mint bolero/ cardigan instead of a white blouse would look really great too I think, but I realize 'AP mint' color may not be easy to find. The one I've used is from kidsyoyo on taobao. You should be able to balance out the mint and pink with your accessories (my collage example isn't the best but hopefully you get the idea).

The Jsk is nice but best to hunt for some coordinate of it first before buying, I've been told it's smaller than the actually measurements provided
The skirt is tiny, very small, its better for fairy kei but too short for lolita.

i have to disagree with the 'not lolita' sentiment, I would say they are extremely reminiscent of otome brand skirts and ETC has put out a number of skirts with a near identical cut and length. I suppose they are not lolita in the conventional sense, but if you accept the otome-lolita aesthetic (as apposed to the otome brand items that are so far removed from lolita as to be unrecognizable) as part of the lolita umbrella, then they are.

I wouldn't recommend the skirts to a 'newbie' however if they're not familiar with otome styling and how it tends to differ from from typical lolita; not to mention it's a style in its own right.

I'm going to disagree in part with >>7628255 and >>7628270 about the bunny skirt, and agree with >>7628312 more.

I have it in both blue and black, and when I was thinner...
>tfw weight gain
...they were some of my favorites. However, if you're on the chunkier side that would still fit the waist, it WILL be too short for lolita. I was able t fit a VictorianGirlDress petticoat under it to ahve the shape and was short enough that the length was fine.

Anyway, I would pair it with a white blouse, red necklace or pin-on bow or brooch, white socks with red details, red shoes (simpler maryjanes, tea parties would be cute too), and a head accessory/bag of similar colors. You can bring in browns as well, if you want, because of the details in the skirt. It really depends on how you want to go with it.

But again, it can be really short on you if you have a larger booty (like I do now ugh), because then it'd be way too short.

>> No.7628379

>>7628322

yup, it's its own style, which I already acknowledged. Otome has enough in common with lolita however, to be excepted within the broader lolita umbrella, which is why you won't be sneered at for wearing otome brands to a meet as long as they encompass aspects of the lolita style aesthetic. Sometimes otome brands release items that are 100% conventional lolita in terms of style and cut, sometimes they don't - such is the grey area nature of otome. Remember lolita has its roots in otome and so will always be like a fashion ''sister'.

I guess the point I'm getting at is, with those particular skirts, if you knew how to otome, they wouldn't be wrong for participating in the wider world of lolita fashion, and for this reason I wouldn't say 'no don't to it' to someone suggesting using them. Otome is kinda like the science-fiction horror film at the sci fi convention, it kinda fits but could also be considered a genre in of itself.

Fucking hell, why am i writing this shit(?). I must be high and I'm all out of fedoras.

Otome is not part of the lolita. It is a JFashion. Sometimes it looks like lolita, because of otome's defintion. Otome is a very loose fashion. It's more about a feeling than a formula like how lolita is. Otome is about femininity, airiness, a bit of silliness. It's very vague.

I'm going to copy paste something from an old otome thread

>Basically, the majority of otome cannot be lolita due to issues in silhouette, casual tops, lack of blouses, variety of shoes, and a lot subtler hair styles. The hair can be so simple because there isn't the giant skirt that lolita has, but if given more fullness, an otome outfit might want to consider bigger hair, too. But it isn't blasphemy if they don't

>But lots of lolita is otome. Because when you think "girlishness", doesn't lolita come to mind? But lolita is restrictive in lots of ways. I already went over silhouettes, blouses, shoes, the elements to a coord. But another part is color. If we looked at otome through a lolita mindset, it'd pretty much be considered sweet or sweet-classic. But if you scroll through here, there are a lot of colors you don't really see that much in sweet lolita. Sweet, you see a lot of pastels, pinks, blues. Otome can stray very bright. There are a lot of reds, greens purples, royal blues that you can find in otome that you'd be harder stretched to find in sweet lolita

>What I'm getting at is: You can easily find otome that looks like casual lolita. But there are still otome coords that can still easily be called 'otome' that are so far gone from lolita that you'd get side-eyed if you tried to call it casual lolita

Specific otome coords overlap with lolita, but saying that otome is part of lolita is a mistake
Taking items from an otome brand is purely on a case-by-case basis, determining fullness and silhouette. You cannot say that because something is otome that you can use it in lolita

I think what you're trying to do is suggest that she redo her coord as an otome coord.

I was hoping for some petticoat advice. I have Bodyline's Cinderella Bunny. I have two petticoats to work with: a Victoriangirldress petticoat and one of the thin BL fairy kei pettiskirts. Using just the VGD isn't enough, but stacking the pettiskirt just makes things lumpy. It kind of looks like I need a more cupcake shaped petticoat. Am I right in my assumption? Does that mean that the VGD petticoat is A-line?

Can anyone suggest a specific petticoat I should purchase? How's the Pumpkin Cat one?

>> No.7635898

Yes, the VGD petti is an Aline, and a cupcake/bell petti would be better for that skirt. Have you tried rolling the top part of the petti to give it more volume up the top? It may help before your next petti gets here.
The generally recommended one is the poofy CP cupcake (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.5.w4002-189500549.39.OrAofY&id=3486735318)) However if you want a lesser, daily poof go for the daily cupcake.
