So, I just had to shell out a lot of extra money on a dress that came out recently because it is in high demand and I purposely skipped out on it, thinking I didn't want it. When I saw worn photos I wanted to cry, it looked so good. I just paid for it second hand with a high mark up for it this morning because no one is (or will) sell it for retail or below, soon if ever. I am kicking myself about it because if I just went for it when it was for sale, I could have saved a lot of money.

How do you guys make yourself feel better about when this happens? I have gotten some pretty rare dresses in the past for cheap, so I am trying to tell myself that it all balanced out, but it is still a bit soul crushing to know I spent nearly $100 over what I could have purchased it for not long ago.

Question for those in larger comms.. Is your comm split into smaller cliques who hold private meets separate from the main comm? Our comm has been this way for a while. My two best friend and I dress in lolita by ourselves but we're trying to figure out how to join one of the cliques since it'd be fun to hang out with a bigger group. Anyone have advice for the best way to do this? There's not really an opportunity to meet a lot of other girls since the comm only ever gets together once or twice a year and I know for a fact that most people won't respond to requests on the group's Facebook page.

What dress was it? I'm curious.

Are you me? I was on the fence about CDC but then another dress showed up on Y!A, though it really wasn't the best of prices- like similar to what the dress shows up on the western front- and I had a choice between that and CDC. I went for the auction, even though it was way more expensive; I just liked it way more. I'm thinking AP will likely do a re-release of CDC anyway, eventually.

And tbh I don't exactly want CDC to wear. I do like it and would definitely wear it of course, but I'm only actually interested in the resale value, because we all know it'll shoot way up.

Long story short, my boyfriend managed to flip a fork-full of food off the table and onto the back of my skirt. Sometimes accidents happen. As for cleaning, I flushed out the stain after it happened and blotted out the sauce, then when I got back home I flushed it out again and used Vanish spot cleaner.

Make friends with them? In a group that initially forms around a shared fashion interest of course some people will have more in common than others. I have friends who share an interest in lolita. I'd never call hanging out with them a "meet" even though we all wear lolita, and I wouldn't think of it as excluding people from a meet up when I hang out with them. We're friends who happen to want to do something together and wear lolita, but the emphasis is the friendship rather than the shared hobby

>the quality of brand shoes isn't worth the price.
They really aren't. I'd only buy them second hand at this point, and only then if they were in good shape, and considerably cheaper than retail. Every pair I've had has either been painfully uncomfortable, difficult or dangerous to walk in (who makes a 6cm platform 2cm narrower than the insole, seriously? Ohright. Baby), or they fell apart within one wear.

I'd much rather spend the same amount on Yosuke, Queen Bee, or Tokyo Bopper shoes instead.

they aren't even 200 bucks, they are closer to 160?

but anyway, if you want to spend money on brand shoes just buy them secondhand, I have a couple pairs of second hand brand shoes that i'm pretty happy with. And considering how much of a markup some people price SS tps, I didn't mind paying 10 bucks extra for a pair of real ones. Also got a pair of the AP engineer boots for 75 bucks, was pretty happy about that.

I am ALL for people changing their minds.

But they were complaining about the price vs value so hardcore, saying they were a huge waste of money, why would anyone ever spend so much on shoes that get damaged so easily, etc. and kind of pedestaling themselves for being against brand shoes.

Changing minds is awesome. And if you don't like something, cool. But doing this shit ain't cute. Comes across as more hypocritical.

Oops, answered you over there, will repost:

Came perfectly unscathed, looked just like the picture. Was a bit pricey for the shipping if I recall, this was a few years ago. Mine doesn't have any lace on it though, it's a simple black pagoda umbrella for gothic, I think a Lisbeth Dahl knockoff or something. That said, of course an umbrella is going to have plastic lace, it's meant to get wet, so unless you're looking for a sun-only parasol that's what you're going to get.

That's the category for Angelic Pretty in mbok. Most dresses don't list full shirring or otherwise, just the series name. Usually. You can search for OPs and skirts using the categories on the left-hand side.

most of the bigger brands have sections on mbok that are split up into respective catagories (accessories, bag, shoes, dress, top, etc) per brand. Here's the AP one http://www.mbok.jp/category/categ_100000509.html?_SRC=i0_li you can see the catagories on the left hand side bar. And here's an older LJ entry with different search terms http://egl.livejournal.com/5243513.html though not sure if shirred is going to be on there. Because people see it as being greedy, and last time I checked, that was something society frowns upon.
People also usually gripe about people getting things they haven't earned, as society doesn't like lazy people either. Just putting a larger price than another person doesn't really seem to warrant any work.

But the main reason is that basically, only people doing the scalping will not mind scalping. Obviously because they're benefiting. That goes for everything else in life. If something is benefiting one person and slighting another, the latter obviously doesn't want that. And there are tons of lolitas out there who want to scalp, but way more who want a 'fair' price and won't buy at ridiculous high markups, so the scalper gets nothing anyway. But lolitas are vocal about it because what if it becomes a common thing, what if everything gets expensive, what if that happens to their dream dress, what if, etc.

Umm, I just buy them all. Sometimes when it arrives I immediately realise one is the best and favorite, and sell off the rest. I keep all of them most of the time though, especially if it's a print I really, really like.

Of course, in order to do that you should have the space and the money for them, obviously if you don't have enough of either then something has got to give. With regards to money, if it's not a popular print you might want to consider that reselling it might be at a loss, so keep that in mind as well.

Just saw all this, don't know why you bother asking a mod to intervene for you. Usually they're just kinda inefficient about such things

If it were me, I'll tell the seller I'll file a dispute if she doesn't respond, and just escalate it to a claim if she takes no action. Message the mod at the end to let her know that this is a bad seller and you had to file a claim.

I personally don't expect much help from any mods on any sales platform when a potential scam is ocurring

>> No.7616332

>>7616322
Well if the seller is clever enough with PayPal rules she may just argue her way through and keep it all. It depends on how the invoices were named/described too.

PayPal has a rule whereby you can't split the payment of one item into two, otherwise buyer protection becomes invalid. In any case, fight for the more expensive payment, and throughout the dispute do not say one was a deposit the other the balance. Say you were buying clothes.

>> No.7616333

You can insist that the first payment was for a smaller accessory and the second payment the dress/skirt itself. If the seller tries to prove otherwise - prove that it's split payment - remind PayPal they have a rule that states pictorial evidences are all not allowed.

I would personally do this:
>Message seller demanding response within a day or PayPal dispute
>wait two days
>tell seller you are filing dispute now
>wait one day
>no response? File dispute

Trying to get your money back is the best way to kick lazy sellers into action.

Actually, according to the site, PayPal won't cover a seller who accepts multiple payments either, so if I claim it was split for more than one thing and she claims otherwise, it seems more likely I'll get my money back.

No. The rule won't work in your favor. Split payments for one order voids buyer protection. But try it, all the seller has to do is tell PayPal there were split payments for one order and your dispute will be closed.

hmm it wasn't like, an SS with a Japanese auction right? I've heard a LOT of horror stories of secondhand Japanese lolita clothes reeking of smoke.

I used to smoke and now that I can smell again, I know how bad it can get, however, if it's really just unbearable that must mean she wore it several times out and about and maybe even near some kind of bonfire/firepit (like in a friend's backyard) because that kind of smoke will just seep into clothing and smell terrible. I always used to keep my worn items in a completely different room (when I used to smoke) than my dry cleaned items.

And yes, you should be upset... I know it's not a 'rule' but it's kind of common courtesy to mention you're a smoker (or your bf is, or w/e) on a sales post...

Any lotta revival anons here?

IW sent me an email last week regarding the rerelease of the revival.
I didn't nab the dress the first time, so they asked if I was still interested. I said I was, and they said that they'll set one aside for me.
I emailed them with more questions, and they said that I don't need to put in another order since they already have my first one, and that I'll get an invoice in late August. I'm used to paying the full (or at least partial) invoice right away for reserve items, so this makes me nervous.

Just wanted to double check with you guys that my order is confirmed, right? I've never ordered directly from brand before so this is pretty new to me.

Mid- May-Gold members offered first pick
Late-May- Normal members given the chance to get left overs, Sells out super fast.
Innocent world seeing how popular this item is goes to do a second re-release and those who missed out first time (both gold members and normal buyers) are given priority. Those who didn't order in the initial round now have a chance to order this week
June-Invoices for first round go out

Basically I.W have realized just how popular Lotta is and they are trying their best to accommodate all the orders

I've had blunt bangs + varying lengths of long hair for around 10 years, and I'm strongly thinking about chopping it off to donate the length. I wouldn't want to go pixie short, but I'm thinking that if I grow out my bangs first, I could pull off a bob -- since my hair already has some wave, I could go with fluffy fingerwaves. It depends on the brand, indie brands like Haenuli tend to have a reserve for about a month, Baby and AP tend to only have a limited reserve of a day or two

I'd be really, really mad to receive that item as well.

On another note, I always worry that when I sell something, someone will complain it smells like smoke. I don't smoke cigarettes in my house, but I smoke weed in my room where I keep my dresses pretty much all day without opening any windows. I only smoke good weed, and I don't smoke joints or blunts in my room, but it's still a worry. I do air out all of the clothes for at least 5 hours before shipping them out, and I've never had a complaint.. I have 100% positive feedback. I guess pot smoke doesn't cling.

So i discovered a substyle called Industrial Lolita, some people said it's an alternate name to callk Punk Lolita some not. But only for me who love industrial music is a "rivethead" version of lolita styles? Because well, industrial music is different from punk even if has some elements in fashion and music borrowed from punk. Can someone tell me what is this lolita substyle?

I don't know. I just saw this name in a fb group for the first time separated from punk lolita. Maybe it's a spawn from punk lolita with less bright colors, camouflage prints, fishnet details? I suppose if this style exsist and it's different from punk lolita, it could be really hard to pull off without looking ita or not lolita.

I was just wondering, has anyone had any experience getting wrinkles out of tulle/chiffon? One of my dress I received as a layer of tulle like matieral over and its super wrinkled. Ive heard ironing with a towel over the material gets them out, but I want to know if anyone had any other methods.

You could also steam it. I have a handheld steamer I bought at Wal-Mart or Bed Bath and Beyond for like $35... they're not too expensive. I actually prefer steaming to ironing, especially when I'm dealing with light fabrics like chiffon.
