I'm dressing up in lolita on Friday and Yomiko Readman on Saturday. My boss is being weird with my work hours since most of my coworkers will be on holiday. I've already had to pull out of attending on Sunday, unfortunately.
Anyway, I'm hoping to have a Yancy cosplay done by Fan Expo, or worse case scenario, one of the smaller cons in late Fall.

These guys were at Fanime this past weekend. It's based off of a really pretty gijinka art (I forget the artist's name). My friend was the Hypno.

I was going for school uniform-esque leafeon! It was really comfortable and fun to wear.

That particular photo doesn't show it well, but that "frumpy dress" IS in 3 pieces. It's a full brocade skirt, with a separate top and belt. The two pieces are also heavily decorated in beads and gems. It's just based upon the idea; not meant to be actually danceable. Definitely more for photos than anything.

As someone stated above for me, it IS in 3 pieces. The seated photo does not show off beading, or the distinction between the pieces. It's more when I'm standing that it can be seen. Either way, it's really up to interpretation. Mine is MUCH simpler than it could have been, and while it's much more based on a bellydancer's outfit than supposed to actually be one; I'm still happy with it. I'm not exactly skinny, so I wore the belt over my stomach rather than hips to make it more flattering on my body shape.

Yeah, my fin does flop a bit, but that comes from the initial headpiece shattering at an event the first time I wore it. The headband the fins were attached to fell, and it broke apart leaving me to have to attach the fins to the wig at the last minute. I've gotten them to stand better since. The photo posted is from that event where it shattered, so I was rather upset that day, but glad my photographer was willing to accommodate my early disaster and find time to work with me once it was fixed that evening.

Hopefully this is a better view of the distinction.

Thank you very much! It's Ho-Oh actually, but good guess. I get a lot of confusion because I made it red instead of orange. The first time I wore it, a lot of people thought I was Link's Loftwing from Skyward Sword. It's based on this fan art with some changes.

Anyway, I can see the bellydancing inspiration a lot better in the second photo, but I think it would be clearer with more beading, especially on the top. Also the shirt straps being so far off-the-shoulder in the first picture threw me off, since in theory the top could easily fall if you were actually dancing. Sorry to hear about your headpiece though. It's still very pretty, I like the pearls a lot.

Yeah, understandably! I've considered more beading, but the bottom of the top is already completely lined in beads. I recently lost the central tear drop gem during a photoshoot, so perhaps I could rework it some.

I completely understand with the straps. That was mainly me working with what I had left of the ruffle material. They were originally going to be full shoulder straps, but then I ended up only having so much leftover from another costume, and didn't have time to buy some. So before sewing them on, I played with the idea of an off the shoulder look, which I decided was a better representation of Vaporeon's neck fins than having regular straps. I've been mistaken for Gyarados in this cosplay, so I understand the confusion.
