Hey /cgl/, are there any guides on what type of materials to use for armor-making? I saw the craft foam tutorial but I also heard that Styrene is a great material and also wonderflex.

Which materials are sturdiest and which are most malleable? Which hold up well to damage? Which ones are most cost-efficient?
As for where to purchase, I'm sure I could find where to do so, but any contributions in that field are greatly appreciated too!

Depends on what you're making.

Worbla can take to bell curves in single pieces without seam lines like other materials; wonderflex has similar properties to worbla without being able to take bell curves, but iirc it's got a bit more stability because of the fiber layer? You can use a heat gun to easily manipulate either, although some industrial-strength hair dryers will do the trick. You'll need to prime and sand either if you want to remove the texture that comes with them.

Craft foam and EVA foam have the advantages of being light and cheap, but the disadvantage of needing to seal them if you want to spray them. Again, heat gun will be your friend in manipulation, but it requires less heat than thermoplastics, at least in normal craft foam thicknesses (still gonna want a heat gun for thicker pieces of eva foam). Can't take bell curves.

Styrene is good for smooth surfaces and precision detail work. Can't take bell curves.
