For the artbooks it's easy. Infinity and I'm pretty sure Materials aren't faked to my knowledge. So that Infinity book is real, just horrendously overpriced.
5th artbook isn't really faked, but there is a softcover version that is a cheaper Chinese version. The real Japanese Artbook V is a hardcover. There aren't hardcover fakes or other versions.
For books I-IV, they must be hardcover with Japanese text on the front and VERY IMPORTANT the first page of the book is made through see through rice paper. It HAS to have this or its a fake even if it looks awesome. You can kind of see the rice paper in the bottom right corner of this picture. It lays over the intro page nicely.

This is my dirty opinion on SM dolls:
If you're looking for just any SM doll and not one particular release, wait until they start pumping out new ones for the new show. Many of the 1990's dolls were shitty bootleg quality to start with, had poor likenesses, and the doll vinyl, hair fiber, and costumes are deteriorating on many. That's not true for all of them, but many. And even the well made ones will be in bad shape if they've been displayed in sunlight or under a store's fluorescent lighting for 10+ years. I threw together a sloppy compilation image.

It's hard to make that mistake (unless you're way too excited that you found it, ahem), but I did it when I spotted a 12 inch Cyborg Gai from GaoGaiGar. In the end I didn't give a shit because it was $15, still from the 90s, and still badass as fuck.But damn it was Korean. They do that with Super Sentai stuff too, and it's nearly still the same to and still works the same (except for the language/voices). Nothing like how they butchered the Gokaiger toys over here...

Whoops, I missed the Uranus doll. However I don't think the S dolls have that darkening quite as bad. The R dolls were already darkening ~10 years ago, the S dolls would have logically caught up in that time but they haven't, at least not nearly to the extent of the R dolls.

Yeah, there was a neat looking Cirno vinyl at a H-doujin booth at ACEN this weekend, and it was $70 on Friday and I didn't even want to swim through the nerds sifting through boxes to get a closer look for that price. The next day it was $50 and I managed to not even have bump elbows with any one to nab it. It ended up being a lot bigger than I expected so I'm super happy about it.

We got everywhere without a badge, then when we left the convention center exiting out to City Property Some asshat tried to badge check us.


Then I went to Anime Conji with a few friends. We all had badges but on day 3 two of us left our bade in the car after packing.

We snuck into the hall when the guard just looked the other way. It wasn't that hard

When you graduate or win something in a ceremony, do people take pictures of you? Yes. Do you want to see them? Yes, they mark an accomplishment.

That's how it is. You put all this work into a costume, you want to see pictures of it. And don't say, "Well why don't you take pictures yourself?" because those really aren't the same. There's just something interesting about seeing how well you come across when being photographed by someone you don't know with only a few seconds to prepare.

I think my #1 pet peeve is when conventions book a guest that any idiot would know is going to be super popular and fill any room in the convention, and they put them in a smaller room.

It's part of the reason I stopped going to Otakon. They had all those HUGE rooms on the top floor that they used for the 5 people viewing anime on a screen and would put their top guests/popular panels in some other smaller ballroom.

My other top pet peeve is going to a fan panel about a certain topic and it either is hosted by somebody with nearly no knowledge or they don't know what they're doing. I've walked out of panels where the host goes "well, tech didn't give me a compatible computer for my PowerPoint so I don't know what to do"...

So many people asked for my photo as Neru. I lost count. One person asked for my photo as Graham...which I wasn't surprised since Gundam 00 wasn't current at all.

At the DC shoot, there were two "Harley Quinns" (In quotes bc shitty closet cosplay). One was a hamplanet girl with a shitty curly blonde wig and an annoying ass gun. The other was a guy who kept jumping into the front of every shot he was involved in and cackling, posing like a fucking naruto character. Everyone else in the shoot worked really hard on their costumes and looked hella good, and these two idiots kept on cackling and doing obnoxious shit.
The girl was standing off to the side and during every "heroes" pose she'd cackle and fire this fake gun that actually made noise.

I have seen kids got dressed up as inappropriate characters (Asuka from NGE, maid version) and belly dance on the stage. Those pair of soulless eyes staring at us are painful to look at.

Selling fan art is actually illegal unless they get a license from the creator of the character/current rights holder. Even making fanart is debatably illegal but usually it falls under fair use. Once you step up to make a profit from it, it's not really fair use anymore is it? Everyone just sells fanart at cons because it's harder to get caught than online. There's this site that sells really cool light up sound activated t-shirts that were clever as hell. They had a bunch of Marvel related stuff at con and their website just has their own designs. Considering how much of a bitch disney is about copyright they've been lucky to not come across any at cons. Just because everybody else does it doesn't mean more people should. Fanart should be for online promotion so people can find you and check out your originals.

But at an anime convention, who actually goes to an Artists Alley to look for nonfandom work? Sure, some people might have enough of an online presence to have fans try to find them at a convention just to buy whatever their favorite artist has for sale, but I'd say the vast majority of people walking past their table at a con won't know who they are. And honestly, who's going to want to buy merchandise of someone else's OCs? No one's going to have the same investment as they do in a preexisting fandom - I'd guess that most AA sales are due to people recognizing characters from a show and going, "Oh, that's my favorite character, I have to have this!" and not "I have no idea who this character is, but it's pretty so I'll spend money on it".

Not going to touch on the legality issue aside from pointing out that Homestuck has a "no profiting off fanart" rule that people tend to stick to pretty well.

I think it's Ohayocon. I remember in middle school it was bigger and had fanart...didn't go through high school...and no it's original-only and really sad. The work is awful.

I have a couple. My first con I went as an Akuma from D. Gray-man. I was seriously shit-tier. I looked like a satanic tax account. I did it for fun, not expecting to have my picture taken and this guy with this massive ass camera just comes up. Didn't even try to get my attention, my friend had to point him out to me and when I tried to say I didn't want my picture taken, he still took it.

Also, every fucking con I go to, there will be at least three neckbeards in akatsuki cloaks with intruments and will approach any cosplayer with a vagina and know the theme song to the series she's cosplaying and/or the specific character and play it for her, badly, to try and impress her. I have relatively pretty female friends who cosplay and we'll be talking when one of them will creep up on us and just but right in and do this, some times taking like fifteen minutes as he moves from one girl to the next

Law of cosplay pictures

Out of the total pictures taken of you, only about a third of them will be uploaded on the internet.

Then out of that third, you'll only be able to find a tenth of them.

Of that tenth you'll actually like two or three shots

What you need to know is that you should be proactive in getting photos. Book photoshoots, ask photographers for shots, get friends to take your picture, bring your own camera and, above all else, ASK FOR BUSINESS CARDS.

I think part of the problem might be the internet itself. A long time ago, odds and ends were imported in varying quantities, at different times, and nobody really knew all of what was out in Japan. Now we all know what the latest shows are, all the merchandise is all cataloged online, and we can even see which characters and items are the most popular. And as a result, nobody is importing anything risky from a sales/popularity standpoint when they can invest the same cash in Rei prize figures and Free! phone straps.

People who can't keep track of their own shit and then expect everyone else to drop everything to help them look for it.

I can't get into conventions at all. I can't have fun there because I keep thinking about how weird the behaviour of people at cons compares to normal behaviour. I wish I could cut loose and just have fun like the other attendees.
