Been working on this on and off since the beginning of the week. Roughly 42 inches long; I'm only 5'2 and the GF is 5'4. Since we're only going to have half a scissor for this run-through, it's beveled on both sides (joined blades would need to be flat on one side)

It's not much, but I just finished detangling this clip-on ponytail, and I'm really proud of myself for having the patience to do it. It's getting a fabric softener bath right now to de-frizz, and then I get to detangle it all over again.

I didn't think I had the patience either, but I've been in a very zen mood lately. It only took about two and a half hours, and I did over the span of three days. The easiest way to do it was in chunks. Separate it into three strands, and starting from the bottom, detangle and flat iron about 1/4 of it. Then detangle and flat iron the next 1/4 of it until you get to the top! It's much easier to detangle once it's flat ironed, but you don't want to iron the tangles in. Picture is detangled vs. detangled and ironed.

Wow that looks really nice. I was thinking about using star tulle but I wasn't sure cause it wasn't accurate.
I was thinking of using some kind of semi-shiny fabric making a short train and put the star print underneath it and/or above it but not make it a petticoat and I can just stuff one underneath.. Not sure if thats a little weird.

Did a cape and top today. Length of cape should be OK, I think. First time doing one. I just need to do the bottom part and get all the gold stuff for the trims that I keep putting off.

Even more Kamui eyes, now with bias binding and varied shape (since one person asked for a more triangular eye compared to the ones I've made in the past). Gotta press the binding a little bit to smooth out the ripples but otherwise they're all ready to go off to their forever homes.

Summarized in >>7535382 I'm not really sure what else to add to that. Just take it one bit at a time, and flat iron on the lowest heat setting possible. I also used a regular hairbrush instead of a wig brush because I don't own a wig brush, and I lost barely any wig fibers at all. Soak it in warm water and liquid fabric softener when you're done, about 12 hours does the trick, so that it stays manageable. After it's dry, brush and flat iron it again. It just takes patience.

Working on a Punk Sailor Moon cosplay for Fanime. Pretty stoked since I love Sailor Moon but don't feel I really fit well for a normal Sailor Scout.

Made my skirt and bow today, as well as cut out and serged the edges of most of the pieces for my jacket. I'm waiting on white laces for my boots, and I have socks for this that were getting washed that are knee high white with red stripes around the top. I'll also be wearing either ripped black tights or fishnet tights with this as well.

Excited to start on the jacket tomorrow. I hope it goes well!

not tying a real bow for large bows is fine because you can add interfacing so the bows won't droop. Tying real bows is better suited to ones at a smaller scale. Doing a fake bow also makes sure it doesn't come undone or shift.

Claymore launchers for Alt-Eisen. Rebuilt one in about 2 days without much sleep because it didn't line up like I wanted.Now I'm working on some of the smaller torso details. The last parts are just about complete. Then its just alot of fitting painting and details.

Are there grown-ass adults who don't know how to tie their shoes? Because tying a bow like this is literally exactly the same.

My (very) WIP jacket for my Adventurous Princess Natalia cosplay. Plus the hat because its actually done.

The jacket is currently held together mainly by pins. I have to hand sew the majority of it because my sewing machine would never work with that kind of material.

I have a long way to go, but atleast Anime Weekend Atlanta isn't til September.

You need to tie it in a specific way so that one sided ribbons don't show the wrong side. Also depending on how you tie your shoes, certain ways to tie a bow end up with the loops positioned incorrectly and therefore look frumpy as hell

Yes to the jean shorts, this was just a quick picture and I had those shorts on at the time.

And yeah I know they shouldn't have buttons. I haven't gotten to the pockets yet but I am going to add the dark brown detail and gold studs. And yes I pretty much just bought 2 jackets and am sewing them together. Like I said the jacket is held together by pins right now, so it's not sitting correctly when I have it on. I'm guessing you're looking at the part near the top of the zipper? I'm going to fix those parts when I get to sewing them.

Any help is appreciated. I initially picked this costume because I thought the design was pretty simple for my first cosplay that I would be making myself. I didn't realize how difficult the jacket would be.

Pictured is all of the armor laid out. The darker pieces have been resined, the other ones haven't just yet. All he's got left to do is resin and sand the rest of the pieces, paint, and get the stilts together...which sounds like a lot, but he's got basically the next two weeks off.

I feel like being a commissioner would be hard because from what I've read most people who want stuff made are under age so they don't have a lot of money and will always want it as cheap as possible. Because of that I've seen people sell stuff and I just wonder how they made any profit.

So my advice anon would be figure out the materials costs + a time estimate

The time estimate is the hard part, if its something that is moldable you could just make a mold and streamline a production cycle and earn yourself some decent cash but the item would have to be popular enough to warrant a mold being made. (And is that even legal?)

Then quote that and that way you can be upfront about your cost; Figure out your payment method (ie they put 50% upfront the rest on completion) and they can say yes or no straight away so it'll save you time and stress if they try to play games (they might email back and say I want it for this much and you be like lol no it costs this much)

Also side note I wouldn't ship until full payment is received but that's just me.

Also if you do make a commission business make an email just for it so that all the emails are in one place so you can organise everything without it being cluttered by your other emails.

most of the time you're working for minimum wage. It becomes profitable when you can scale it- i.e. molding and casting.
Also, armor or full costumes are a pain if someone isn't local- fitment can be a bear.
Large props can be a problem, too- lots of materials, and lots of shipping costs.

I got some sidearms in the post. Made the 3d model for these a while back, they went off and got printed, finished, and molded. The finished one is cold cast bronze and pigments, other's plain urethane.

1mm only. The torso will be double layered in some areas and I plan to use some fiberglass to strengthen key parts as well. Most of this will be cut away (Been doing that all night) so I will be able to move and be at least somewhat comfortable so some parts will be thin, hence the fiberglass.

Boot covers are done, and I'm rather pleased with how they turned out. I mean, they're not at all perfect, but for my first time working with vinyl and making boot covers, I'm happy.

added the visor and started working on the crest and the Kabuto (Back half of the samurai helmet)

when doing a part with edges that have to be perfect in pepakura I like to tape it onto the other finished part, I resin the outside and let it harden, then the inside, after that I can take it off and fiberglass it and it will stay the same shape I need

It came out just right!!! super happy.

I'm fiberglassing it now. The trick is a little at a time.
And If you want a stronger helmet use fiberglass mat, but if you're doing a high detail part use cloth. I can use mat here because I need to give it more thickness and it needs to be able to withstand a drill for when I add bolts nuts and magnets.

I actually finished this, but the mask turned out jenky so I have to remake it. Really pleased with the actual costume tho!

There are only two weeks. I am doomed.

Working on Minnie Mouse gijinka. The petticoat looks lumpy because I hadn't finished installing the closures and some of the tulle was folded over itself while pinned in place and I have to style my wig.

My boyfriend agreed to be Mickey with me, figure these will be fun lazy Sunday cosplays for us.

Well that mask is just clay, isn't it? Though clay would be too heavy so as I understand it (I've never done it myself but it's on my to-do list) you sculpt the piece out of clay, then make a mold from that and use the mold to make the final product out of whatever material you're going to use (fiberglass, or whatever, fuck if i know)

with paper clay, it's best to make a base out of paper/ cardboard what have you and then use the paperclay like bondo and apply a coat you later smooth away. That's how I normally use it unless I'm doing small things like beads

It's a base of paper mache to make sure it's super light, and then a layer of paper clay. I ran out and have been using just air dry clay which has added a bit of weight, but the fur will balance that out and I'll probably be adding some combs into it to help anchor it to the wig.

There are so many characters that there is literally one for each bodytype. So no matter what that angry anons bodytype would be it wouldnt change her argument that the Ryuuko does not really fit her cosplay char.

How did you attach them down? I tried glue on the one pair I've done but I wound up having to use sequin pins to nail them down in places that kept pulling up.

Hoozuki progress from earlier today. I decided to taper the neckband at the neck so that it didn't bunch up as much. It's now half sewn on and I've been working off and on since this morning.
If I ever decide to hand finish a neckband that goes to the floor again, I hope I just decide to kill myself first instead.

I used e6000 and touched up areas that didn't have as much glue afterwards. I haven't worn them much yet but they seem to be staying in place. I tugged at the fabric to make sure it was stable. What glue had you used, if you don't mind me asking? And I just love your progress! It looks so neatly done, I look forward to it fully sewn. Which con will you be wearing Hoozuki?

I just used hot glue since I ran out of time to wait for E6000 to dry (I was gluing them the morning of the day I had to wear them) and didn't want to deal with the smell anyway. It held ok but it pulled away a bit at the heel and on the inner edge of the shoe. The pins wound up working great though so it's not a huge deal anymore. I think I'll try E6000 on the next pair of bootcovers I do just because I'm curious to see how it holds up. I still have a ton of extra sequin pins leftover should I have to nail the covers down anyway.

Working on lengthening my Satsuki wig. I have to add some length to the 3/4 sides and thicken up the back and then thin out the wig a bit and layer it so it looks natural.

I've made a quick template for my Mirai sword by scaling up a screenshot of her sword and screwing around in photoshop to get the lines for where the edges are and where it has to be beveled, sorry that the quality isn't so great it's my first time doing this type of thing. I finally got the final jacket cut out and I am getting ready to put it all together. I am going to have to finish the back quilting though before I can go any further. Dalh Assault Rifle

Much closer to completion, due to better methodology than the maliwan. (lesson learnt, use urethane tooling foam, greatstuff expando-foam does NOT work)

Still needs some gubbinz added to it, then some final cleaning.

Both will have light-up barrels (Maliwan is fire, Dahl is Slag) and the maliwan will have a motorized magazine.

Gonna try to cast 2 of each and me and my cosplay partner in crime are gonna rock an Axton+Gaige combo cosplay.

I'd suggest using Foam iT instead of greatstuff foam. It'a urethane foam that you can cast into blocks and machine. Super useful; and pretty cheap if you can find a local place that sells it.

Three from Drakenguard 3. I made the armour pieces out of worbla and used this technique to smooth and prime

Though I wasn't able to finish the Jacket today because of studying for Finals, I've made wicked progress on the quilting and I got all 3 of the large ladybugs that I'll be using for the costume cast and they all look fantastic! I do need to sand a little bit but after 5 plus layers of spray paint the imperfections kind of tend to hide away.

She's used all-purpose putty (like wall spackling?) for priming the foam before, I'm about to try this tomorrow so I'll post pics.

Still slowly progressing on my Alt-Eisen costume. The front of the torso is now complete. I still need to add the backpack, padding and the supports that will attach to my waist and support the weight of the giant shoulder claymore launchers.

The head will actually sit very low on the torso between the shoulders when I am wearing this. It will help give an illusion of extra bulk.

Hey hey, still working on this. Thanks to everyone who gave me advice about the bow before. I got some advice from other friends too and ended up shortening and finally sitting down to reiron my skirt, got my new shirt and took it in and made the bow on the back bigger.

I'm going to finally just sit down and get the sewing bits of the costume done, I've studded the bottom binding of the jacket and I'm making the cuffs for my sleeves right now. I'm going to be putting a patch on the back too and ombre dying and distressing the tails of the ribbon. Do you guys think the tails look fine or should I pull them off and make them a little skinnier?

Quit my job and I don't start my new one till Monday. Took advantage of the time to finish fitting the torso. I put everything together for a progress shot. I'm really happy to see this project finally start to approach completion.

The torso back and side are made from corrugated plastic instead of foamcore board like GaoGaiGar. Its tougher and waterproof and its easy to hinge parts.

Nonon Ultima uniform is taking three times as long as I thought - ideally I was going to be nearly done tonight, but I have had to resew this too many times. Unironed seams, some bits just pinned still, etc

Got a shit ton more work on this coat done today. Hoping I can start putting the lining together tomorrow after I get home from work.

for both your spear and your helmet, I recommend sealing it, then using primer and paints. im making a helmet as well and what im gonna end up doing is use resin and fiber glasa mat to make the helmet durable (the dome is made of cardstock) and then that will allow me to sand down any irregularities of the dome, and also help with the finished look when I paint.

I bought a really really cheap rake from bunnings for 3 dollars and used its wooden pole as a dowel instead compared to buying a $15 dowel just food for thought
