I've been traveling about 8 hours to the con every year since they started hosting it at the Kalahari. I'm in Allentown, PA. We have nothing out here but shitty cons (Anext, Zenkai, and now Saikou).

I've also made the trip for Ohayo and Sugoi, but hated both.

I think the only things I'm bringing cosplay wise is Trixie to get pictures with a friend and maybe my Vivi since I've only ever worn it once before.

It depends on who is bartending. Some bartenders don't care, but some go to the outdoor hot tub and do a mass ID check and kick out anyone without an ID or who is under 21. I've only seen it happen twice over 4 years of going to the con, though.

Aah, I'm really excited, I just bought my badge today! It'll be my first Colossalcon, and my third convention ever. My first were Ohayocon and Indiana Comic Con, neither of which were too impressive, so I have high high hopes for this one.

Current project is the Daicon IV bunny girl. I started altering my mockup of the bunnysuit a few months ago but organic chemistry swallowed up all my time and motivation. Sadly there won't be enough time to do a sword prop I won't be embarrassed of. I'll likely be bringing my Misha Mikado along too, even though I promised myself I'd only do it if I got the school uniform ready.. But I redid the wig and it's much better now, so I'm satisfied.

Yes!! I admit to being a little worried about not having the prop because it risks just looking like a generic bunny girl. But I figure as long as I get enough details on point it will be more obvious. For Colossalcon I am working with the Cosplay Staff team and thus I'm on staff for the year. Colossalcon does have press badges but Industry members would have to sign up/pay for tables. As far as I know Colossal doesn't have a discount for industry nor do they do badge swapping between cons, which is something a lot of conventions will do.

As for ad exchange, you will wanna talk to either the chairman/chairwoman of the cons you're talking to or their promotions, press, or industry division heads/people.

Do they give actual badges for the one day badges or wristbands? This year I can only be there on Friday because of work. I'm wondering if I should schedule my photoshoot in the morning before I buy a badge so I don't have some cheap ass wristband showing in my photos.

Yeah, you have to save them. They are good for your whole stay at the hotel. They give them to you unfastened, so just put them on loose enough to slip off, but not loose enough to lose. I have no idea if they charge you for replacements.

Hey I dont know if anyone may need this but thanks to a few people I found out a little bit more about the transit system of the area, I didnt know there was a walmart near there either! Also the walmart has a subway store in it. its about 2miles away from the kalahari. Someone also told me that the bus picks up on a schedule around the employee entrance and ask a worker where is it because they typically know where.

Chlorine from the waterpark. Chlorine is already hell for you hair because it strips it of protective oils. Chlorine and dyed hair is a disaster. Chlorine and freshly dyed hair will often lead to immediate breakage due to leftover chemicals from the dye process. This way the dye at least has time to sit, but not so long it'll be too faded by the con.

It's not a big deal. The burning pain usually only lasts a few hours. I've done this before knowing the consequences and just dealt with it.

I mean, both stories ended up okay in the end (in the first case I commissioned work on a character I DID know and gave her free range in shading and etc etc etc and in the second case the conversation turned out fairly pleasant), but how do I keep myself from looking like an idiot in these scenarios? I could try steering clear of anime in the conversation, but the point of the convention is anime... so what do I do? When you say this I think you might mean "I'm not the type to go deeply into any particular fandom", but someone hearing it is also likely interpret it as you're saying "I'll warn you upfront I'm casual because I don't give a shit about this series you're cosplaying from". In other words bro, you didn't just tell her you don't recognise the series, you're also effectively telling her you don't care whatever it was.

Solution: Don't explain so much that you're a casual, just say you haven't seen it.

It's not possible to memorise every single anime out there. There's too many of them, not including all the fanon stuff that comes with each sizeable anime. Also, not every person at the con is obligated to be your friend. If they don't see a reason to continue the conversation once they realise you're not a fan of the same series, just excuse yourself and let them go do whatever they want.

Yeah, I actually didn't even bother trying to work my schedule around the meetup because of the 18+ panels. However I have to admit that almost no one is coming to panels after 8 pm; none of the ones I went to at night even began to fill the room. I'm guessing they really aren't the focus of this con at all.
Kind of surprised because there weren't really any lines for the indoor waterpark until after 6. Where the hell is everybody?

I enjoyed the con overall. Weather's been pretty hot all weekend and the water park killed my feet but other than that, solid con, 8/10 would attend again.
I think better signage for panel rooms/dealers room/arcade are needed, I found myself waking in circles and getting lost a lot. Other than that, no complaints.

This Walt Disney was so in character, really well done. I dump pics from my good camera when I get home
