Gotcha covered OP

>> No.7520647

There's no cleaning general so I'll ask this here. I know some of you spot clean your clothes, what type of soap do you use to do this? Or do you use detergent? I want to clean the pits of a black bolero I wore in case it got smelly, but I don't want the soap to leave a discolouration or anything. Some soaps can leave bleachy looking marks and I only wore it once so I'd like to avoid that.

Also, what deodorants do people wear when in lolita? I find that my regular stuff smells too strongly and has a tendency to leave marks, even the ones that claim not to. Would it be better to wear roll on? This is why I rarely wear my brand...

>> No.7520659

>>7520647
I can't help you with the first part, but I take all of my stuff to a garment cleaner who specializes in cleaning vintage/wedding stuff. Maybe there's someone like that in your area. I trust them with my lolita since they're working on priceless stuff a lot of the time.

What deodorant do you currently use? I find that gel roll on (let it sit and dry before you put anything on) works wonders.

>> No.7520660

>>7520647
I switched to Arm&Hammer Essentials and although true to claim it doesn't leave any marks on my clothing, it doesn't work as well as my old antiperspirants, and it does have a decently strong citrusy scent (I used to use only unscented sensitive skin deodorants, so this was quite a change, but it hasn't given me any kind of reaction).

I would like to do that too but I feel like it would cost quite a lot and I also don't know of anyone that I trust with that. The last time I went to the dry cleaner's they managed to make it worse than it was before I dropped it off.

I currently use something called Norsca Clear Sports Anti-Perspirant Deodorant (bought it specifically because it's not meant to leave marks). But it sits in your armpits like baby powder and rubs off. It's a really odd texture and smells too strongly too. I didn't actually wear any deodorant when I wore the bolero because I didn't want white stains on it so I really want to wash it, haha. I will have to look into gel roll on! Is there a particular brand that you like?

>>7520660
That's a shame that it doesn't work as well, I feel like I need a stronger one too. Is the smell noticeable at all times? I personally prefer ones that don't smell. Good to know that it's good on sensitive skin!

>> No.7520689

>>7520681
Not really, I feel like it's only noticeable when you first put it on. However whatever top I was wearing does smell like it once I take them off, before they go into the wash.

I used to use clear gel then switched to clear roll-on, myself, but that was what was leaving marks in my shirts...

Well they shipped out mine on monday and it arrived in Germany on wednesday. It's still in customs though, and I have not received any notification at all. It's DHL Express so I'm pretty pissed, because they seem to do all the customs stuff for you, but whenever I do it myself I get my package like two days later. I know it's been just a few days, but it just doesn't feel "express" to me.

On the other hand, recently my dream dress was in customs for over a month and they even sent it to different offices all over the country. It should've been delivered yesterday, so I was at home all day waiting for it to finally arrive, but my tracking said failed delivery in the evening. The doorbell never ring and there is no notification to be found. Now they will deliver it to the post office at the other side of the town (it's not like there aren't a lot of post offices near me), which is always so crowded that people have to wait on the street outside the building for around two hours to get their stuff. During ridiculous work hours, of course.

Sorry for the rant, I just want my fucking dresses. To answer your question: yes, (lucky) people already got their packs.

Well from your original picture, it looks like the correct amount of wearing ease for layering a blouse underneath... which is why I asked to see it with a blouse on. If you can fit the waist, then I'd just get the top part of the jsk taken in by a tailor. Making things smaller is usually pretty easy.

This happened to me with a dress from JetJ as well, I requested a bigger bust, but because the top of the dress is only darted at the underbust, the overbust gaped like whoa. I just kind of folded it in and sewed it down, it was a pretty easy fix.

I've heard good things about F+F generally and seen a few pieces in person that looked okay but I've ordered from them once and I'm not doing it again.
I got a blouse and the sleeves were enormous and the body part was tiny. It wasn't custom-sized. It came with a cameo-thing on it that was cheap as hell and sewn on flimsily which is BS for a blouse that's twice bodyline's prices.
And the skirt was the worst. Already stained in the package, cheap plastic buttons that had color chipping off of them already and some were even broken off. I had to buy all new buttons and sew them on myself before I even got to wear it. Again, BS for a $70-something skirt.
You can easily get used brand for F+F's prices or have something from an indie brand or Oo Jia custom-sized for you so I really don't know why anyone would order from them.
They're shit and I wouldn't risk it again.

I actually do have bad experiences with Anna House. I've ordered from there twice and they've gotten things wrong three times. The first time they forgot to send the shoes from my order, then the shoes arrived and they were both left shoes, I also got the wrong blouse, but that was already after I complained about the shoes. I had to send one shoe back to recieve the right one. I did get the sippings cost back. The second time I ordered they gave me the wrong blouse again. They do try to fix their mistakes without giving you extra costs, but they can make a lot of them.

About the quality, the shoes are not worth it, the white flat pair that I got there have completely falled apart even though I've only worn them a couple of times, I lost the sole because it fell of, the bows fell off and it scratched very easily. The quality of the dresses are good, but you are better off ordering from taobao, since the prices have gone through the roof compared to a couple of years ago, second hand brand might een be a better option.

Yeah, it did end up being a bit costly but the fact that I now have two blouses that fit me perfectly makes me so happy.

So, this may sound like a stupid question but here goes. How the hell do you put on wigs/wig caps? I received my first wig today and I want to try it out but the wig cap that they sent me isn't really a cap, it's a circular netting thing. So. There's that.

Send help.

>> No.7526928

>>7526922
Basically you just use the net like a headband to keep all your natural hair out of the way. A full wig cap does the same thing but also holds all your hair. I use different types depending on the wig--a full nude nylon cap for under blonde wigs, and a net cap for under brown/red wigs (close to my natural color).

>> No.7526935

>>7526922
To continue that, the net type are easier for securing the wig to your head (because you can pin through it) but provides less "coverage" of your natural hair. With a shorter wig, you can just pip it on over the cap and use a couple pics around the hairline, but for a long/heavy one, you'll want to try to pin it through the cap to your hair underneath. Depending on how long your natural hair is, braids make for excellent wig anchors.

If they're so concerned about scalping then maybe they ought to ditch their arcane views of ~*~EXCLUSIVITY~*~ and just go straight to a made-to-order system. That way nobody is fighting over their products and everyone has an equal chance to get what they want. It essentially making brands MORE MONEY while eliminating the scalper issues.

This was actually up earlier this year. Threw me for a loop, I didn't know what to do with my name and actually emailed back notifying that my paypal address is different from what I signed up at Baby wih (not like I can change any of those things). Nothing really happened, though, seems like they did not have an issue with my paypal account, my email, my "plural Chinese names" (it's written out in full on their packaging), and even the name on my credit card has always been different (it's abbreviated).

I think when they say "plural names" they actually mean "one person pretending to be multiple people", but since they have so many customers it's hard for them to check it, so they add a rule that your paypal account needs to be under your name as well, since it's less likely a scalper actually has credit cards under a different name.

Re: made to order. JetJ is pretty much the only brand that has steered into that direction. Smart move on their part, so they can gauge interest and not have too many leftover stocks.

Exclusivity is still a key point in maintaining brand name and popularity, though. Making everything made-to-order isn't going to necessarily solve the problem.

>> No.7528701

Would also like to add that if BTSSB doesn't care so much about made to order: look at Claudia re-releases, MNSD rereleases, and now even Ave Maria is getting rereleased. They care, but they don't care enough until the demand is so high that they can no longer field off requests.

There's a really fine balance between maintaining exclusivity and constantly rehashing things. If you look at the amount of time Krad Lanrete rereleases things, you'd eventually get bored and wonder when they will ever find the time to produce new things. For every made to order items, that means the machine that can be used for new releases is temporarily on hold to make the made to order items. And we all know that the new generation of lolita want the new, next best things.

>> No.7528923

Switching from pre made stock to made-to-order wouldn't work for a number of reasons. Main one would be their physical shops. Brands like Baby and AP have several physical stores while JetJ probably only has one main shop (if any?). These stores need stock at all times that help generate a community of fans to shop and meet up. It makes sense to have made-to-order on those $500+ dresses but regular release dresses sell much faster.

I work at an online busines and too many people are just too naive about how this works... If they produce more than a certain amount, they'd end up not making profit at some point. Same goes for made to order, they couldn't satisfy the demand unless they hired more staff and paying extra. Besides, I wouldn't want made to order dresses.
I think fashion is art and I appreciate that, I'm willing to pay for good quality and I think most clothing items outside of lolita are so ridiculously cheap that we got really spoiled, let alone we save money at the expense of others.

>> No.7528954

>>7528710
but the post you were responding to wasn't really about re-releasing things. If AP did more made to order releases like they did with DDC there would be less scalping and double dealing at release time and AP would make more money via increased volume of sales. The resale on DDC has remained strong and the dress stays at and often above retail in spite of the larger numbers released. All of the brands (Baby and AP specifically) could learn from that and profit massively while also getting in the good graces of many customers who have been frustrated at the difficulty of obtaining popular dresses at the release time.

it's not the loaf that's catching my eye, it's the fact that your right (my left) tit looks like twice the size of your left.

Wear a sports bra or a binder if you're worried about it. It doesn't look terrible because you can see that the bodice isn't riding up super high. Your tits aren't filling the entire bodice from top to waist is what I mean.

Naw, I've sold never tried on dresses, especially the really popular prints. If something looks like it'd be "hot", I prefer to get them in multiple colourways at the beginning, then once it arrives, I keep just the one colourway I really like and sell off the rest. Any advice on dealing with difficult comm members who drain the life out of you?

This person doesn't understand personal boundaries and insists on asking personal questions that I don't want to discuss in front of a group, let alone with her. An example is: Hows your new anxiety medication?
I've tried going to different meets when they haven't ticked 'going' on fb but they turn up, also tried not sitting near them, talking to them etc
All the usual things you can do to make a situation bearable I've tried as well as cutting all contact from them.

Talking to them about this problem is either ignored or makes them ask more invasive questions.

tl;dr my comm has an energy vampire

Ok, so I'm a relatively new lolita, and I wanted some advice. I only have 2 petticoats and they're both A-line (I got them before I realized the difference between a-line and cupcake) but neither of them fit with any skirts or dresses I own.

What I do have is a set of bloomers from F+F that has some ruffles in the back that provides a bit of poof. (pic included)

Until I get some proper petticoats, is it acceptable to wear just bloomers under skirts/JSKs?

>> No.7533840

Personally, I don't think it's ever really acceptable to go without a petticoat.
I'd recommend you sell the A-line ones (Pettis are quite easy to sell.) and buy a nice bell-shaped one. In the mean time, sit tight and deal with not wearing lolita until it arrives.

>>7533877
Well my main concern is with sizing since I'm a femboy. I'm really scared of spending like 40 bucks on something and then for it to not fit right or look awkward on me. Long sleeves are a must if I'm trying to pass, since I have really thick upper arms. I might as well give up on trying to find shoes there now, my feet are huge.

As far as style, I really like sweet and cutesie type stuff.

>> No.7533895

>>7533879
(I am just going to give the item numbers. Just plop them into google with bodyline.)

For shoes, shoes192 and shoes178 go up to 270, unless you need them bigger?

For dresses, just wear a bolero or a cardigan if you feel conscious about your arms. Not sure if you need L sizing, but L515 (some sort of cake print?), L400 (country style) and L299 (the very popular chocoberry) would be my picks. If you really do have thicker arms then it's best to avoid OPs with sleeves.

Bodyline's seifukus (costume621 and costume573, long sleeves) also come in larger sizes but depending on your height, they might be too short.

>> No.7533902

Thanks for the recommendations! I don't go on bodyline often, so I couldn't find some of them, but I still liked the ones I could find.

>> No.7533908

>>7533902
Japanese sizes (and basically Asian sizes) are smaller in general, so an L might be more of an XL. You might need to go with L or 2L then. Make sure to check the measurements because most of the time they are pretty absolute maximums.

I should also say that the dresses I listed are all under Lolita > Jumperskirt and the seifukus are under Cosplay > costume.
